AMAZING FOOD
Torches is a beautifully decorated with modern and delicious food. Oh gosh, I went in for the Chilean Sea Bass, but they didn't have it that night, but it was definitely not a downer when I received my dish. I had the Filet Mignon Trio, which had filet mignon, scallops and shrimp with mashed potatoes, a little side of veggies and a beautiful decoration of deep fried onions. Everything tasted GREAT and cooked to perfection with a beautiful presentation.
My friend had the oxtail special, which was also really good. The meat was juicy with great flavors served over some grainy pasta. Possibly risotto? The best dish of the night was definitely the scallops appetizer. There were only three, but they were served over three pieces of duck. It was succulent and perfect.
This is definitely one of the best places that I've been to. I'd choose this restaurant over something like River Cafe in NYC.
"Excellent Dining Experience in Buffalo, NY"
Torches is a very handsome-ly decorated, super tasty restaurant off the beaten path - But a Must Try if in Buffalo.
a.) Amazing Menu - Something for everyone - I had a "Sky Scraper Caesar" (very impressive construction) and a dijon crusted Chilean Sea Bass cooked perfectly. Also - home made desserts prove difficult to limit to one.
b.) Great Service - Our server was attentive without being overbearing .
c.) Ambience - Between the general vibe, complimentary sparkling cocktail, and immediate surroundings, this first time Friday attempt proved to be a total positive experience.
I look forward to going back to Torches - food was of excellent quality - worth a check out online as they have a cool website.
Modern American cuisine, with some new interpretations of classic dishes. I went here for the restaurant week deal (2-courses and a glass of wine for $20.09). I opted for the potato wrapped halibut. The app was their house salad, with a ball of fried cheese on top (it was very soft, not sure what variety though). They were both delicious.
After reviewing the menu, I knew I needed to order something else. They offered a dish with some of my favorite things. It now stands as one of the best dishes I've had in recent memory. Scallops, topped with house-made duck pastrami, and a pear sauce. Pomegranate was combined in some way, but I do not recall how. It was delightful, 3 Scallops for $16, but well worth it. It was on the regular menu, I hope to go back and have it again.
Dessert - Caramel Creme Panna Cotta. Delicious, and accompanied with the story of being created the night before at the brother's home, when the restaurant suffered oven failure.
Drinks - good beer selection for a fine-dining restaurant. The wines were also very nice. They also offered very creative cocktails. We were introduced to Dan Akroyd's Crystal Skull Vodka. A very cool bottle.
We dined at the bar, and were served by one of the two brothers. The other was in the kitchen turning out every plate himself (very impressive). A very cool comfortable atmosphere. This is the former site of Tsunami.
The bad - the dish my friend was recommended by another couple at the bar, Mac N Cheese. We figured it must be awesome if it is offered as a staple on their menu. We were wrong. The dish comes with penne, a number of cheeses, Frank's Red Hot, fried chicken strips, and whole GOLDFISH! The little cheese crackers! As if the dish wasn't already childish. It certainly shows the Buffalo influence with the Frank's, but by no means deserves to be on a fine dining menu. Some think it's playful, I thought it was huge disappointment.
That is my only complaint, everything else was wonderful, and we will definitely be back again.
