9 reviews for Tony's Pasta Shop & Trattoria
I had heard about Tony's from several people who had eaten there before. Some raved about the pasta (Tony's makes their own fresh daily) and their sauces...
So, I stopped by one evening for dinner. It was during the week, so it wasn't very busy. However, I am glad we got there at 6, because by 6:30 there were people waiting for tables.
We only had a couple minute wait while a table was cleared for us and soon we were brought into the dining room to our tables. I say tables because all the tables are little two-seaters and some are pushed together to accommodate more guests. Being a "big and tall" guy, I had a choice: straddle a table leg or be *VERY* uncomfortable. I opted to straddle the middle table legs. The dining room was full and *very* noisy. It was hard to hear the conversation at the table over the other patrons talking to one another and their servers.
Shortly after we were seated, the server comes over to take our order. I was a little disappointed with the beer selections. Mostly "big brew" domestics (Bud, Miller, etc). I was delighted to see Fat Tire on the menu, so I ordered one of those. My dinner companion wanted an appetizer, so we had the Roasted Garlic & Mozzarella Focaccia.
The app and our drinks were brought out quickly, along with some bread and dipping oil. The beers were brought out bottle only. I asked for a glass and a minute later, I was presented with a soda glass, which was a little odd. I guess they don't have beer glasses?
The appetizer was quite delicious. The marinara sauce was nice and and warm and the mozzarella was evenly distributed. The free bread was room temperature and not cut very well, but tasted good with the dipping oil.
Once we had finished our appetizer, dinner arrived. I had ordered the "house specialty" Chicken Parmesan and my dinner companion had the Spaghettini and Marinara with Meatballs. She really enjoyed her Spaghettini and sauce, but her favorite were the four huge meatballs that came with it. I got to sample one and it was very good!
The Chicken Parmesan was decent. I've had better and I've had worse. I think the chicken was just a little overdone, but otherwise tasted good. The spaghetti and marinara side that came with was quick good. The hand-cut noodles are very long, so if you're a "twirler", you might want to cut up your noddles a little first or you'll have a huge forkful of noodle.
Portion sizes were perfect... not too much so that you're stuffed when you're done and not so little that you're wondering "Is that it?" The food was priced appropriately as well.
Overall this was very nice meal. Appropriate sized portions, good flavors, and pretty good service. If you don't mind the noise and would like some good Italian food, this place is it.
I haven't been here in many years, but I used to love to go here (especially on a date). It's small and kind of crowded, and sometimes awkward to be seated from what I remember, but the pasta rules. It's also in the beautiful Bluff View Art District, so it's very nice to walk around and check out the sculpture garden and view of the river.
The atmosphere and presentation of food seemed very, VERY affordable compared to what I see around Atlanta. Friendly service, delicious food! Can't really say much else!
My friend Adam introduced me to Tony's on a very busy summer night. As a consequence, the service was a little slow, but the server was very nice and apologetic. We finally got a table upstairs, and I still had to debate about my order.
We ordered the calamari as an appetizer, which was actually a little overdone and rubbery. However, the entrees absolutely made up for the less-than-satisfying app. I love being able to customize pasta dishes! My friend and I both thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
Because the restaurant is so busy, I wish they would take reservations. That's one of the inconveniences about the place. If you're not starving, though, I think Tony's is worth the wait!
We really enjoyed our meal at Tony's! We went in the late afternoon and were surprised to find it busy already. We were seated upstairs, which had a nice view of the river and seemed to be a little quieter than downstairs.
We didn't do appetizers, but really enjoyed the delicious bread and dipping oil. So good! For dinner, my husband had the chicken parm and I had the waiter's recommendation of Fusilli with grilled chicken, wild mushrooms and roasted red pepper alfredo sauce. My husband wasn't crazy about the marinara sauce, but overall enjoyed the dish. Mine was excellent.
The prices here are really great -- much less than I would have expected for this artsy area. Recommend you try it out if you are in the area!
last night, the crew and I made a trek out to Tony's Pasta Shop and Trattoria. We all had a hankering for some pasta and Tony's did not disappoint.
first off we got there and it's in a very nice little neighborhood. and the atmosphere inside is very upscale, but also simple and homey. it's like visiting your aunt's house who keeps the place clean and upscale but you still feel comfortable at (your aunt on your dad's side, cause the aunt on your mom's side is a little different). anyway, their menu is pretty straight forward, pastas, pizzas, salads, beer/wine. but presentation and taste are very quality, and the prices are more than reasonable.
I started with an appetizer green salad w/ Roasted Tomato tarragon dressing (~$5) which was very good, and for the main course had a veggie lasgana ($9.99) that had eggplant, portobello mushrooms, yellow squash, zucchini, onions, ricotta. The lasagna was made perfect, lots of ingredients, but small enough that it wasn't falling apart, and large enough that you could taste each individual element. the ricotta really held the dish together well (i always hate lasagnas that slide apart from itself). other dishes that people got, meat lasagna, the carbonara and lobster ravioli. everyone was pleased.
i kind of want to take away part of a star for having a lackluster beer selection (was bummed they didn't have any beers on draft, and no micro brews) but they had a decent wine selection and on tuesdays they do $5/glass and $20/bottle. so if you're craving beer, just have some prior.
if you're really on the cheap, they have pizzas that start at $5.50. no one had one, and doesn't seem like a pizza type place, but a place like that back in san diego (or most anywhere in the country) could easily get away with charging a minimum of $8 for a entree sized pizza.
With out a doubt the best food for the money in Chattanooga. They have proper size portions (not to large, not to small). The chicken parmesan is excellent! Located next to Rembrants so you can get the after meal espresso shot.
Woohoo ! As we r sight seeing the Bluff view district next to the river in Chattanooga, we discovered this river view Italian restaurant !! We really enjoyed the meatballs and sausage pasta. One of the best meatballs and sausage that we ever had.
Today we have to driv all the way from Atlanta to have the meatballs pasta again. It's worth the driving since it included a beautiful and romantic walk over the river for us !! But........ Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhh, it was cold !!!
Tony's has excellent service and very, very good food. If you go to Tony's you may want to go a little early because they draw a crowd.
