7 reviews for Tony Roma's Restaurant
The Rock. We had the Rock as a server (we were even flashed the signature "People's Eyebrow"), but this Rock is better---he knows his beer.
I was going to get something on tap, but when the Rock came to our table (throwing our napkin "coasters" like ninja stars in front of us), he mentioned having a Lasgunita's Cappuccino Stout, I had to bite--it was bottled, but dang, it was darn good. You can't go wrong with Petaluma, CA's Lasgunitas.
As for food, I went with the Rib Sampler. There were for types of baby back ribs with this choice. I remember ordering this years ago, and liking it. Sadly, these ribs just weren't doing it for me. they were a bit dry. Oh well, the Cap Stout made it all good.
This place is still decent. The dining area and bar are all nice and "non-Tri-Cities-esque" (meaning, they're nice & make you think you're somewhere cooler). :) And of course the service was awesome. Rock hooked us up. I'd give it another try.
One of my employees told me if I wanted great ribs then go to Tony Roma's. I took my family for ribs and was disappointed. The ribs didn't taste any better than Famous Dave's or even Applebees but was far more expensive. The waiter serving us wasn't very attentive either. We probably won't return due to the price and service.
My family has brought me here a few times.
*** UPDATE*** service - horrible!!!! FOOD _ good! I am upping i tto a 4 because my sis loves this place and took me here for my birthday.
I like the food. It has a niche. It is oneof many restaurants which helped me gain weight when I lived there.
We have never had a very organized service tho". I am a professional hospitality person.. with experience in more than 4 -5 star places. I try to not put this onto waitstaff.. BUT if someone asks for tartar sauce,.... IT IS NOT a big deal to go get some.. Same with salsa.. you do that in a restaurant!!!
Or in other restaurants.. I am so frustrated.. I am taking one more star away.. it was embarrassing.
TRAIN your staff!
The food was fine. My family liked it.
We also needed butter.....
I have eaten at Tony Roma's a couple of times. Each time just to see if they have gotten any better! The first time I went it was a bit of a wait, when we finally were seated they didn't have much of a drink menu. When we ordered drinks the bartender didn't know how to make the drinks. We actually told him how to do it and they turned out horrible. The meal wasn't much better. The service was horrible. The waiter was bringing the wrong food. It was just a horrible experience.
The second time I went I decided to give them another chance. Since they had been open a while. We had awful service again. We tried to order drinks, which took forever. They weren't even busy! The drinks were horrible. I ordered pasta, which came out looking like soup with a few noodles.
I just think this is a horrible restauraunt! I never have had good service, whether they are busy or not. The food was horrible, it didn't even have good flavor. There are too many other restauraunts to choose from in the tri-cities than to waste your time at Tony Roma's!
Ever since this place opened, it's continued to deteriorate in quality, both on the plate and in service. It's disappointing to see in a chain restaurant, the bulk of whose recipes should be pretty formulaic, with the bulk of the work already done.
The place opened with high ideas about adding local specialties & favorites. The few of those I tried certainly didn't seem to be specialties, and definitely weren't my favorites. Those have gradually been stripped away, leaving only the core of the Tony's menu intact at present, which typically isn't bad. Except here, where every time I order I get stuff that's first been overcooked, then left sitting for half an hour so it's gotten cold, the sauce has started to dry & congeal.
The service used to be this place's saving grace, with perky, attentive, and friendly servers all around - many of whom were not bad to look at. Now....not so much. My last few times, I've gotten kids who barely acknowledged us, spilled stuff when leaving drinks, practically tossed our plates on the table, and then disappeared until it was time to collect a tip.
Today, mom & I went there for lunch. In spite of the fact that there were as many servers as customers in the place (only 4 tables), it took 20+ minutes to get two salads and a cup of soup. The soup was good, the salad was....well, a salad. But 20 minutes? And of course, our server disappeared again. Sure we were a small ticket, but he wasn't busy, and a small tip is better than no tip, which is a lesson he may be absorbing as I type.
I only went to the place today to see if they'd improved, or if they've made any corrections. They haven't, and I don't see myself returning to this store until I hear from someone I trust that significant changes have been made. I'm not holding my breath.
Tony Roma's is the Starbucks of BBQ. Like it's coffee counterpart, I'd generally give it 3 stars if it doesn't deviate far from it's intended purpose. Every time I've had Tony Roma's I left satisfied, if not overwhelmed, by the flavor and presentation. It's one of those places that I wander into late on a weeknight when traveling here and there...more because I'm too lazy to find something else and they keep later than average hours for a full-service restaurant. So why 4-stars instead of 3?
I used to live in Tri-Cities when this location first opened. I always left happy with both the food and the service. This was, and continues to be, a rarity. One of my gripes about restaurants here was that if an eatery had great food, they had sub-par service. If they had lousy food, the service was awesome. It was only the very rare diamond in the rough that deviated from this.
So tonight my brother, nephew and I needed to get some dinner after I arrived in town. We Yelped the area trying to find something different than our usual standbys. We were having problems finding a place that was casual, kid-friendly and reliable...and hadn't been tried before. We gave up on the last part as hunger was getting the best of us...so he suggested Tony Roma's...and I was a bit weary after reading the last review even though my personal experiences had generally been positive at this location. It'd been awhile though so....lot's of time for a place to go downhill.
I put our name in when we arrived and was told there would be about a 15 minute wait. That estimate was pretty accurate. Quite frankly, 15 minutes isn't bad for 6PM on a Friday night. We were seated and promptly attended to by our waiter. The bread was warm. The beer selection was outstanding. (I had the Old Rasputin Stout that fellow PDX Yeep Melissa P. had recommended to me awhile back. For the record, I was not disappointed...bold and slightly sweet...not too malty or choco/coffee tasting...very good..and at 9%...STRONG - This is your shout out homegirl...thx for the advice). My brother had a full rack of babyback ribs. The nephew had a burger. We were all happy with the quality of our meals. Our waiter was personable, friendly and quick. So I guess all I'd say in regards to the prior review is that perhaps some changes for the better occurred since last year. As far as my own experience is concerned, they've actually improved from good to great since my last visit.
So all that being said...WTF is up with the duct tape seats!?!?!? Seriously folks. We were seated at a booth close to the fireplace...both my and my brother's side had these huge rips in the seats. Now, one would expect that a restaurant THIS full would certainly have the means to replace the upholstery when it cracks. And I guess they did...but DUCT TAPE? Seriously Tony Roma...get it together on the upholstery repair...you know, figuratively, not with duct tape.

I really enjoyed my dinner here. Walking in, I liked the feel of the place, very warm and inviting. We sat with our party and the waitress was right there to get our drink order until the rest of our party arrived. There were 9 of us for this dinner. I am glad I got there early cause being that I had never been there before and being on weight watchers I had to really look at all the items on the menu to see what was appropriate for me. I do have to say that there wasn't a whole lot of options, most stuff was either loaded with cheese, some cream sauce, or breaded. The options were quite limited in this regards. I ended up going with the grilled chicken sandwich with cheese and bacon, can't remember the name exactly. I had already prepared myself for the extra points. I know some people say stick with the salads but from all things I have read and heard, that's not always the case and honestly I was already prepared and didn't want to cope with just a salad. The one thing I really liked was that it was VERY easy to substitute. I was easily able to substitute the french fries with rice and you actually got the option for another side such as broccoli or baked potato or garlic green beans. I chose the green beans, which after I got them found they may not have been as healthy of a choice as I thought. They did look as though they were doused and cooked in butter. The entire meal was very good and very filling, I wasn't able to finish my plate. The waitress was very nice and we got our food rather quickly with all the orders. There was one unfortunate happening that one persons order didn't get put in with all the others therefore her food did not arrive at the time ours did. I do have to say though that this can be a huge beef for some people and I am sure the wait staff and such are very aware of this, the waitress admitted her mistake and graciously apologized. They brought out a small plate of coleslaw and french fries while her food was cooking so she wasn't completely without, and the manager did come over himself and apologize for the mishap. They took care of it quite well in my opinion.
There portions are quite large and you could easily take some of your meal home for later if you wanted. If you aren't watching what your eating then I recommend this place. Unfortunately if you are, then you might really want to reconsider or at least be prepared to really examine the menu for your best options.
