I must admit, it's a bit strange eating fancy Asian food in the basement of a old house in a residential section of Naugatuck. What's even stranger, however, is how GOOD the food is! I've visited this place several times, and I've always been impressed with how fresh and tasty everything is on the menu.
I'd personally recommend the Spicy Tuna balls appetizer (delicious fried dumplings filled with spicy Tuna goodness and topped with an equally tasty sauce), the Victoria's Secret sushi roll (I'm not saying what the secret is, but it's awesome), and the tempura fried green tea ice cream. It's just as decedent as it sounds... and it even comes with sprinkles.
The prices are quite reasonable as well. I had a great time, and I know that I'll be coming back for more. -

The food was pretty disappointing. I'd gone before and remembered the sushi to be OK, and after finding a gift certificate online I decided to go back. Even though they never cashed in the certificate I won't be returning to use it. I think that says it all. The sushi was over priced and didn't taste fresh. I couldn't finish mine and passed it on to my husband only to have him turn it down. We got gyoza and it was dripping with grease. For a minimal sushi experience this is the place for you.

I love this sushi place. I go often. But, when I haven't been there for a bit the owner still remembers me. He always recognizes me and greets me with a smile and asks about my family. The food is always delicious and fresh. The waitstaff is always amazing. I love the interior look of the resteraunt. Once, the owner let us have a sake tasting. With out charge he gave us a sake cup each of every sake he had. I always recommend this place to everyone.

Not the best Thai food I've ever had. In their defense, I'm not much of a Thai food connoisseur but I know what I like. I called in an order for pickup. It took me 20 minutes to get there, rushing in thinking I'd be late, the food wasn't ready for another 10 minutes. Originally they had said 15 and the place was dead. I requested yellow curry off of their menu and was told they no longer carry that because it's not very popular but would I like green or red. I opted for the pad thai instead and the pork gyoza. The gyoza were very good but the pad thai wasn't that great. It was edible but was lacking something. May not stop in here again unless I happen to be in that particular area.

Tomo is a well worn and seemingly dilapidated restaurant with food and service to match. The sushi here was not very fresh and fairly expensive for what you got. I found the servers to be very inattentive and overall, even with a http://Restaurant.com coupon, this was not a rewarding dining experience by any means. There are much better tasting sushi options in the Waterbury area.

Unusual location, odd building. Looks run down from the outside, but not so on the inside. We were ignored by the only employee we encountered upon entering. The bartender? sushi chef? I'm not sure, but he was engrossed in a TV show. This is a large mostly empty room and your going to feel awkward if you have to stand around here very long. The only customer having a drink at the bar did nod at us, but we were of no concern to the employee. Eventually a waiter came out and brought us to the dining room in the back.. It's dark, the walls are rocks (as in the basement of old houses) and the ceilings are low. A great setting for a small intimate cafe or music club. You could easily imagine Bob Dylan dragging a guitar over to a stool in the corner, under a single bare, not so bright, light bulb.
Anyway, the food was decent; the service decent; but in the end, decent is not enough. There are places in town I like better.
Maybe I'll be back. In a year. -

I used to go here all the time, and the food WAS amazing.
I always thought of it as one of those hidden gems because if you didn't know it was there you would just drive by it. Recently though it seems to be it was bought out by a new owner who is seems sort of young.
So the story begins of my last visit....I was so excited to go one night a few months back with my boyfriend and we walked in and it was different...so we just thought oh I guess they just wanted to change it up and make it look nice ( it was sort of dark and not that great of a decorating job back in the day but the food was so good I looked past this) so another odd thing we noticed was our regular guy wasn't at the counter where he always was... meh maybe he had..the..day..off? We sit down look at the menu and notice a few new things, and soon after the new owner came over and introduced himself. He was very nice and seemed to be really into his restaurant so we thought, ok maybe this wont be that bad buttttttttttttttttttttttttt we ordered and ate... the food was just not right. It didn't taste exactly fresh and there weren't as many flavors as I remember. Its like they cut corners and sadly the true Tomo 68 is gone
So the conclusion of this story is I wont be going back. -

Tomo 68 is located near the Prospect line of off Route 68 in Naugatuck. The interior is not spectacular (you can tell that they "made due" with the architecture they had to work with). Staff is friendly and the prices (compared to other Japanaese restaurants) are good. This restaurant is listed as a Japanese steakhouse but I only order the sushi and it's very good. It's the only sushi restaurant I know of in our area. I would recommend the sushi/rolls to anyone. Definitely worth checking out.
* We usually do "take-out" but on one of the occasions that we ate there, we observed our waitress through a window in the wall picking her nose while staring out the window (apparently day dreaming). Hey, everyone needs to clean the ducts now and again but to see that from a person who serves food...ehhh...not so good. -

It's on a woodsy corner of route 68. The building looks kinda lame from the outside, but the interior is much nicer. It's dimly lit and romantic. The sushi is very good. The beef negimaki was chewier than I'd prefer. My date had chicken terriyaki meal and he raved about the freshly made fried rice. I will definitely go back
