Tom Lee Roofing did a professional job on my 1,200 sq ft roof. The crew came in and tore off the gravel roof in one day. They found an area with dry rot. They give you the option to climb on to the roof. I preferred the iphone pix that showed me exactly where the problem was. They fixed the area. Than put on the new roof the second day. They worked the roof around 3 different shaped skylights.
The foreman explained to me what was going on and answered my questions. I forgot about my TV satellite on the roof that had to be removed. The TV guy came out and were able to work simultaneously as they finished the roof.
They were respectful, worked hard and cleaned up ALL areas.

I guess I should have expected an outrageously expensive estimate, when Mark Hinojosa came out from Tom Lee roofing and said he didn't want to scare me by giving me a rough estimate of what a new roof would cost. The estimate I received was $2,300.00 more expensive than both Pacific Roofing and JR roofing (they were both competitive). During the estimate, he emphasized how they would seal everything up around my skylights and fan exhaust (doesn't every roofer do that!) The other 2 gentleman simply figured out the square footage and gave me a price, then sent me a contract. Mr. Hinojosa did not bring a tape measure, another bad sign.

A week ago Tom Lee Roofing completed a new roof for my house. I have a flat top roof that tended to form pools. They recommended that they create a new sloped wooden surface before applying the new roofing material. I agreed, although this extra carpentry certainly increased the price. Once the team started work I was totally impressed by how carefully yet quickly they worked and how they seemed to enjoy their work. Everyday everything including my garage and sidewalk and even the roof next door were swept clean. The sloped roof carpentry was carefully planned and precisely measured every step of the way including shims for depressed spots in the old roof. Every bit of trim, chimneys, and gutters were replaced and everything water-sealed. Where some dry rot was encountered, that was replaced without extra cost. A totally professional job done on time and without hidden costs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A few years back Tom Lee also replaced a peaked roof on a rental property - also perfectly done with unanticipated repairs completed without extra charge. The test of time has proven that they did a perfect job. -

They made a good impression right from the beginning! Of the 3 roofing contractors who came over to give me an estimate, only Mark from Tom Lee Roofing actually got up on the roof to see what condition it was in.
They cleaned up at the end of every day and would have finished before the rains came back if I hadn't thrown a change-order (replace 2 skylights) at them at the last minute. That was my fault but the Tom Lee crew didn't bat an eye. The crew ended up having to rainproof a partially-finished roof while we waited for the skylights to arrive. I don't know how they did it but the roof did NOT leak at all during those 5 days.
Anyway, the roof looks great now. The owner/contractors who are fixing up their own house next door were so impressed, they ask for a business card from one of the crew.
Did I mention the seamless, custom gutters formed on the spot? How about the hand nailing of the shingles? Those last 2 items are what convinced our building contractor neighbors to use Tom Lee Roofing in the future. -

Absolutely the best ones to deal with. I liked Howard, the guy who supervised my job. They were fast, efficient and reasonably priced.
What a great feeling to have the roof not leak during a down-pour...
It's a bummer to have to get a new roof but if it happens to you-- call these guys and they will make the experience as pain-free as possible. -

I've been using Yelp for a couple years but have yet to write a review. How is it that a roofing company could cause me to finally write a Yelp review?
Bad dinner experience maybe you loose some cash, bad roofing job and you'll regret it for months. No regrets with Tom Lee.
Anyway we had a leak in the roof last winter and I wanted a simple repair not a whole new roof. They came out inspected the roof with me and pointed to a raised cap where the fireplace vent came through and confidently stated that is where the leak is coming from. I thought this couldn't be the case since I couldn't see anything amiss in this area. But Im not a roofer so...... I had them do the work and guess what it fixed the problem.
They were prompt and communicated clearly. Their proposal was easily understood listed some materials options with explanations
They did the work in one day, removed all the debris and left the job site clean. In two years we'll be re-roofing and installing some skylights. I'm calling them back for this work. -

Contracted them to replace a dilapidated chimney pan and they also cut/installed a skylight while I had them up there.
They were efficient, fair, friendly, and cleaned their mess. I did find one roofing nail in my front yard, but that's is pretty good. I will use them once my roof needs replacing. -

I was referred to Tom Lee through a family friend who has been in the architectural business in the city for a long time.
Above all else, the work of Tom Lee speaks for itself. The foreman/estimator Mark was extremely switched on, left a very good impression on his initial visit. We received 2 other estimates at the same time and have to say that Tom Lee's pricing was very competitive but most of all the can-do attitude was what appealed to us.
They made our re-roof and skylight installation job so seamless, despite our aggressive time schedule and other challenges with access to roof, this was impressive.
The job was done very professionally; they took care to scope out the job thoroughly, came prepared, communicated well with us throughout the process, very fast work turnaround - it was impressive. All to say that I highly recommend Tom Lee, you will be well taken care of. They will make a tough difficult job seem easy and manageable. Now that is the true value of Tom Lee! -

Professional, reasonable prices, good work - highly recommended.
Now if only the inside of the house looked as clean as the roof...Listed in: The Roof is on Fire

We've now hired Tom Lee Roofing twice for two different homes. They're far better than any other roofing company we've hired in the past. The price is fair. They're buttoned up, they're on time and extremely professional, all the way from the office to the workmen who do the work.

I hired this roofing company to take care of 2 leaks into my home. After the roof job I still had the same 2 leaks. This company had me hire carpenters and painters to fix what they said was the problem areas. After much money spent the same leaks appeared. Tom Lee was rude to me and said that I was costing him money to keep sending his crew out to check the leaks. He finally said the problem was not my roof but my neighbors roof gutter. He never solved my leak problems. I finally called 2 different roofers and both ot these companies independently found the causes. It was not my neighbor's roof gutters. If there is a problem after you pay this company, they will not help you out. I think it is hit or miss depending on which foreman he sends out. Unfortunately I got the fellow that blows a lot of hot air.

was referred to tom lee roofing by the guys at western gravel, plus tom lee was listed in our handy Diamond Certified Directory with high marks on customer loyalty and customer satisfaction. plus they had worked on a bunch of other houses in our area. we were able to get an estimate appointment within a matter of days, and the actual estimate within another couple days (compared to another roofer that took over a week). you'd expect a diamond certifiied roofer to bid some ridiculous amount, but the estimate was quite reasonable without any surprises at the end of the job. and tom lee himself was helpful during the process, explaining exactly what would be done and was available to answer the questions we had.
the roofing job itself was very thorough, which in addition to installing completely new roofing, included replacing our gutters, adding vents to ventilate our attic, and replacing the chimney tops. they did a pretty good job of cleaning up afterwards too, both outside (clearing our lawns of all debris) and inside (patching up wall plaster where roofing nails created dimples).
and good thing it was all completed before the huge windstorms and rainy days that are sure to continue. -

Asked for estimate for an HOA roof (regular SF victorian). Very polite, competant guy came out, on time, etc. and made an estimate. I specifically pointed out areas where there are ponding issues that need to be fixed. The estimate arrives and I am ready to run with it, but on the back is a provision, "not responsible for ponding." I ask about it, and push to remove the "not responsible for ponding", because I want the ponding issue (and leaks removed). They hem and hawed. So I forwarded the estimate to a friend with experience in roofing. He added a few more suggestions regarding their EXTREMELY one-sided contract. I forwarded the suggestions.
Instead of guaranteeing a roof that even a professional would approve, Tom Lee responded with an email saying their insurance doesn't cover HOAs (OOPS, yea right). This was two weeks after the original estimate was performed and two weeks after they knew it was for an HOA.
When I pushed to get a professional job done, they ducked out and wasted my time.
I think Tom Lee feeds on individuals who don't have experience. Their customer service is good and satisfies the inexperienced, but if you push on the quality of the job, they fail. -

Great job - competitive prices. They removed 4 layers of roofing from our roof - down to the original shingles and re-roofed the entire house. Also installed a new skylight that opens! Great warranty on product and work.

I received five roofing estimates, and ended up going with Tom Lee because he most impressed our contractor and had done a fantastic job on a friend's roof. We weren't disappointed. He wasn't the cheapest bid, but of the ones who seemed the most reputable (and a few definitely did not) he clearly stood out. His roofers worked quickly and professionally, cleaned up well, and our roof and decks look fantastic and should last a long time. We he job terribly were especially leery since whoever did the work the last time around (Lawson roofing) botched the job terribly which resulted in considerable damage to the house.
The roofers initially forgot one small fix, traps installed around downspouts, and they came back to install them promptly without additional cost. Great company, great work. -

had them recoat our condo flat roof in 2008 with aluminum paint and remove a deck. Great communication (although I wish I could deal with them via email, it's mostly phone-based). They did a good job, and I'm having them do some more work now. Will update this in a couple of years if the work they did lasts, although right now everything seems to be holding up!

Have to echo all the super comments here: Mike, Cathina, Gabriel, and the whole crew were great. They replaced our 110 year old roof in 3 days - and each day they were on time, quickly came up with solutions, and tidy. They also installed a skylight and solar tube. Even though the sun is shining, we are hoping for a big rain to test it out!

Friendly, professional, on-time, on-schedule, on-budget. Tom Lee's bid for our roof was a little higher than the other roofing company we contacted, but we went with Tom Lee because their references were absolutely stellar. I was completely pleased with the work they did and the manner in which they did it.
Why don't other contractors behave this way? Professionalism is worth its weight in gold. -

Mark, Cherise, Gabriel, and the whole crew were great and if they did more than roofs and skylights, I'd hire them again. They finished the job in two days even though they are meticulous and thorough and in spite of my change order. They cleaned up at the end of both days, were polite, I can't praise them enough. Very highly recommended.

Considering how great the reviews are for this company, and how much I live by Yelp reviews, I was incredibly disappointed at the 'customer service' of this company. After reading about Tom Lee's services and focus on 'customer relations' on its website and seeing "Want to get a free estimate or have a question?", I made the call. I told the woman who answered the phone that parts of my roof appeared to be deteriorating and asked whether it would be possible to have an estimator come to give me a quote on the repairs necessary. She dubiously told me that there would be a $100 charge. When I expressed surprise at the charge, she said that if they 'know' in advance that there really is a problem, they waive this charge. When they don't 'know' there's an issue, they hit you with a $100 fee. Leading me to believe that this woman answering phones apparently possesses some remarkable ability to telephonically discern whether a caller really has a problem without even needing to see the roof concerned. That's a pretty crazy skill.
Not to mention the fact that I, apparently, don't have anything better to do with my time than to schedule meetings with roofing contractors when I don't seriously believe I have a problem.
Be forewarned - this company apparently left out the fine print on their website that should say "* Free estimate only applies if you can convince the receptionist that you really have a problem" .
I then immediately called Acme and Young Roofing for quotes, both of whom were incredibly courteous and set up estimator meetings without a bat of an eye. While the bad news is that it looks like I need an entire new roof, the good news is that I know where I will NOT be sending my business. With a significant expense like a roof, it's better to find out early than to find out too late if the entire company shares this poor attitude. -
