I have a crush on this hair studio. Like, a super duper mega crush. I've been gushing about them to anyone who'll listen, and I'm not about to stop anytime soon. I found this gem of a salon thanks to Yelp - oh how I love you fellow Yelpers, you are so wise.

I made an appointment for cut and color - I'd been going on the cheap to Aveda Institute, seeing students, but I decided enough was enough. Time to get serious with the locks.

They book appointments almost anytime, so after work was no prob. I LOVED the place from the minute I walked in. Uber hip. Fishtank, eclectic art, comfy couch, candy, and beer. Todd went to work on my locks, chopping away at my dry hair. He was cool, casual, totally unpretentious in every way. Made me feel super comfortable. And he really knows his way around a cutting shear - my hair looked fab. After his work of art was complete, I was in Michaelangelo's hands. This man is THOROUGH. He asked me tons of questions, really addressed my wants and needs - more than any colorist ever has. And the end product was absolutely amazing. I was a little nervous about low lights because I like my blonde light, but he assuaged my fears and gave me a simply spectacular dimensional color. And his pooch, Lola, was the cutest little curly haired pup ever.

I couldn't be happier with the end result. I never thought I could love my hair again like this, or take so much pride in it. These guys make the whole experience incredibly pleasant.

They get super bonus points because:

They actually care about saving you money. Prices are reasonable, they don't try to load you up with overpriced products, they made a suggestion on how I might be able to keep the cost down, and they don't tell you to come back every two weeks. Plus, free bang trims by Todd! I have NEVER in my life been to a nice salon that didn't want to rob you blind. That in itself is a mind-blowing feat.

They're totally cool and not "salonish" whatsoever. They really respect their customers and it shows. They rock.

I am so thrilled to have found this place. Thanks Yelpers, you guys are the best! I will be recommending this place to everyone I see and know. I only hope Todd and Michaelangelo will still have time for me when they're Miami's hottest attraction. ;)

I was very surprised.

I set an appointment, but had no expectations. I like to think I'm pretty low maintenance, and always figured I'd get the same "do" at Hair Cuttery than I would at any ritzy beauty salon. I was never even slightly satisfied with chain-salon results, and I didn't like feeling like I had to set aside twelve hours, and spend hundreds for a bang trim. I met my match. A place that doesn't use safety scissors to cut hair, and isn't an expensive day long beauty retreat. It's quick service, with quality results.

From the minute I walked in, like a deer in headlights - obviously a new customer - the service was perfect. I usually dread having small talk with hair stylists, but both Caroline and Todd were professional and very personable. Conversation was effortless, humor was quick, and much hair styling knowledge was gained in my visit. I was in and out in forty minutes. A big PRO in my book.

Overall, I can't complain about a single thing. I will definitely be back for some of the recommended treatments soon.

WARNING: Does not take AMEX. :)

Can only speak to my experience...meh at best. Left feeling  rather disappointed and misled, especially after reading all the reviews. Not what I expected at all...
The "dry" cutting method may not be the best approach for all hair types/textures.  My hair is very straight and fine...the end result does not suit me at all.
My mantra now is "it's hair, it'll grow back".

Another five star review for an amazing little peculiar salon.

That Todd, he's a listener. He is helping me realize my long hair dream, and even offered helpful advice on extensions should I grow more impatient than my hair does long.

Michael Angelo is the colorist, and he's great. Just put yourself in his hands. I get the sense he does his best work when you're there with an open mind, ready for something new and better. I didn't know what I needed, but I needed something, and Michael Angelo had the cure. I'm sure he'd do a great job with any prescribed color, but he's an artist, and artists flourish with freedom.

Two glasses of wine and three hours later, I left what felt like the living room of new friends, complete with pups Lola and Rosie. If you're looking for a new place, find this gem tucked away near the midtown Target.

Truly, the anti-salon. Everyone was nice, the place was great.
I was a little bummed that Todd was late, then he had to take care of personal things which delayed the cut-by-new-hairdresser-anxiety to an uncomfortable level. But... once he got going, it was great.

I have curly hair. I like it that way. He was not digging it - and blowed out my hair with the promise that it was the way to looking more 'professional'- a request. Must give him props- it looks and feel great.

I'm interested to see how it will look curly, but I'm confident. Todd definitely give the impression of being honest + capable + good. What more can you ask for? If it's a sweet, chill atmosphere will excellent music and quality products... okay, i liked it a lot.

Thanks to Yelp for introducing me to this sweet place.

The situation was desperate.  A year and a half outside of my once golden highlights and almost six months post-cut, I was ready for some work to be done.  My only solace was Yelp - and the people who write these reviews - to help me avoid a 4th mistake at the hands of an under seasoned stylist.   And that's when I found Todd.

His name isn't one you'd normally see every day, and the name "Nue" just seemed to speak to me: something new.  Try it, you might like it.  Try something....Nue?

I was absolutely surprised when I heard his voice answer the phone.  I didn't figure it was him at first - but when I told him I'd been referred to a "Todd", he instantly responded that he was in fact the man with magic hands...in the flesh.  Sort of.

Wow, I thought... he answers the phone.  How cool is that in a city where even assistants have assistants?  I have to admit, I was a bit nervous, but he calmed me right down.  Very level headed, easy to talk to and even easier to book an appointment with.  Apparently, Todd lives and works at his own studio, allowing him the ability to make appointments in the evening - sometimes late - to accommodate his clients.  Perfect!

I scheduled the appointment for a Thursday evening and drove up a couple days later.  It was an hour drive from South Miami in rush hour traffic, but I had my iPod and great music so the drive didn't seem so endless.  I just prayed that my experience would make up for it.

Nestled in a classic art-district building with giant panes of glass and vintage decor, Todd's Nue Studio is welcoming and - lets just say it - a time warp.  Think back to vinyl records, paper mache lamps and gold fabric colored sofas.  Picture art in browns, blues and mellow tones with a flash of red and orange.

When I got there, I met Caroline at the bar.  Yes, their counter is a bar.   She's sweet, pleasant and helpful.  I was introduced to Todd right away - from across the room - as he scanned his parlor to see who this new girl was walking through the door.  See, that's how Todd is; he knows his clients.  And he didn't know me, but he certainly made his way to the counter quick enough to shake my hand and introduce himself.

He's like a celebrity here on Yelp, but in person, he's a laid back guy with a great personality and a flavor for creating conversation.  You think it?  He'll talk about it.

After reviewing my mane and toying with it a bit, he gave his honest opinion on what works with my hair type.  He also mentioned that he has his own style - he cuts dry - but he assured me that he knows what he's doing and with the sincerity in his tone, I couldn't disagree.

A brief cut and I was ready for Michael Angelo to rev up my color.  He talked with me for a few minutes on what I was looking for and then came up with a great idea for some strawberry blond lights and some copper lows.

Once my color was complete, I moved back to Todd for the finishing touches.  As I sipped a frozen Sangria, he worked with my cowlick, trimming the bangs just enough so that they would hang right.  He then applied minimal product and fluffed.  We discussed a great lounge nearby and he offered up the information and an invite to an event in a couple weeks.

I also walked out with a CD that Todd had burned himself, because the music was so freaking amazing that when we commented on it, he offered up the disc without hesitation... very cool in my book.

Here's the highlights (no pun intended):

- Studio is comfortable, vintage, not artsy but unique, full of great music and chatty people who make you feel right at home
- Todd is experienced, educated and artistic; you'll be surprised just how intimate he can be with your hair.  It's like a 6th sense.
- Michael Angelo is a one-of-a-kind "mixologist" with a flair for blending color in combinations that make your hair pop while looking totally natural
- Prices are by the hour but extremely reasonable, he only charges for the time he spends with you
- He offers free bang trims for the next few weeks - just stop in and he'll touch it up for you
- You will be extremely comfortable!  If you're cool with an occasional swear word now and then, great conversation and a puppy sleeping in a dryer chair while you have your hair dyed, then this is the place for you!

Am I hooked?  You're damn right I am.  I'll be back again, maybe sooner, just to say hi.  'Cause that's how this place is.

Nue is the anti-salon. And for that I am thrilled. The vibe is an eclectic, lived in mix. Think Urban Outfitters meets your favorite coffee shop. There's no pretentiousness. No matching chairs (thank god). And a total lack of attitude.

I watched as Todd finished the client before me. She was getting this amazing edgy punk rock cut with lines buzzed in. I'll have to admit- after seeing her hair, I was planning a bulletproof excuse for jetting out of there. I mean, when it comes to hair, I always choose vanilla. No crazy, adventurous flavors for me. Long, straight, lightly layered is more my speed.

I walked towards the chair, sweating bullets. Todd asked me what I was looking for, while I nonchalantly replied "oh, just y'know, cut off the ends a little. Keep it long." All while I was subliminally shouting "IF YOU CUT IT TOO SHORT, THERE GOES  YOUR 'YOU KNOW WHATS'."

He proceeded to cut my hair dry, and I have to say, the cut was on point. Exactly what  I was looking for. Gorgeous, healthy and long. And as he transformed my hair, he effortlessly became the inhouse DJ, orchestrating the mood of the salon. I got a wash and blowout after, and Todd taught me how to do a quick updo that transforms into these loose, sexy curls when undone. Amazingness. He's like the unbearably cool older brother with impeccable music taste we all wish we had.

I love everything about the salon. There's a natural banter between everyone who works there. The music is spot on. And the hair- oh, the hair- is simply amazing. From hipsters to the more conservative locks, everyone should and will feel inspired after a visit.

I left with a handful of bobby pins (courtesy of Todd) 2 mix CDs and gorgeous, gorgeous hair. Me likey. Me likey a lot.

The other 5 star reviews don't lie. Get thyself to Nue immediately.

The amazingness of this salon started when I called to make an appointment and had a conversation with Todd about my hair and what I wanted to do, he told me how they cut hair there and he just made me feel excited. I also felt like I was talking to a famous person after reading all these reviews on yelp.

So the day comes to cut and dye my hair and I'm greeted by Eddy, one of the most fabulous hair stylists I've ever met. He told me that he was going to do my color but that unfortunately due to my excess of hair I would have to go back on Monday because he wanted to do things right. After the many color catastrophes I've had I was more than pleased that he was being sincere with me and wasn't going to mix up a bunch of colors just to get the job done. So this day I just had my haircut done by Todd who cut it dry, ironed it, and then gave me the cutest up-do so that after a few hours I could let it down and have my hair in soft waves. It was very exciting, and my hair was still super long after the cut. Todd was awesome and I loved how he gave me tips on what to do with my hair. He also gave me an amazing CD, that I've become obsessed with.

Three days later I went in for Eddy to dye my hair. He dyed it and gave me a color filler before to prevent my highlights from coming through the color dye. It was the best dye job I've ever had- it's been three weeks already since I went and it has yet to fade (this has never happened to me). While I was there I also decided to add on a few more layers to my cut and Eddy did an amazing job! He gave me many layers but still managed to keep my hair extremely long. He also added soft curls to my hair that I absolutely loved. Eddy's a fabulous stylist and very entertaining.
Oh and P.S. Todd gave me another CD this time around- yay!

Overall my experience was outstanding! The stylists here are the best in the business, the salon is beyond charming, and you will feel cool while you're in here and even more when you come out!

What are you waiting for?!!!

I had color done at this salon with Michaelangelo (sp) and it turned out perfect! I didn't have a cut but I did meet Todd and he seemed quite nice. The salon looks alot better in person than in the pics - its actually quite upscale and very clean. Some reviews cited mismatched chairs and random items for sale. However the chairs match, everything is new and its in an upscale building in Midtown. Its spacious and comfortable. Highly recommended salon for color and I can only imagine the cut will be amazing next time I'm there. The prices are very reasonable and you get excellent service unlike some overbooked salons in South Beach. Glad I found my new Miami salon!

By far the coolest salon I've ever walked into in my life and I've walked into plenty including a punk tatoo/salon in Prague.

I called and made an appointment and was set up to go meet Caroline.
Parking was simple as one would expect near the Midtown high-rises.
I walked less then a block and into what appeared to be some sort of odd, vintage store/ gallery from the outside. Once inside I realized it is a gallery space but it's also a personally curated studio full of personality and clearly a labor of love, sweat, tears, music, and hairspray. Yes, music is a major part of this operation and adds another dimension of soul and depth as if this place needed another shot of cool. There is enough genuine, old-fashioned, non-contrived, pre-hipster cool in here to make us all believe Midtown has a chance.

Onto my stylist and I.

We meet, I let go of my hair which was in a sad, ponytail, bun hybrid and there it is half-wet/half-dry, all wrong. I look up to see Caroline's reflection in the mirror and there it is a look only a stylist can give you, a moment of silence full of shock, horror, and disappointment and of course questions. At this point many a stylist would wimp out and say something nice or complimentary full of flowery, feel good euphemisms. Instead, she tells me my hair looks like shit. Those probably weren't the exact words, but it's close. There was no sugar coating here. Instead she said we could make a serious change to the length and cut away all the damage and rid me of the negativity attached to my hair or keep the length and the nightmare of tips chemically burned. I opted for the former. Everyone wants a fresh start right?

She worked fast and well, we conversed but she was concentrating on my hair and thinking about all the options and the best outcomes. Still in the midst of all this upon hearing I was trying to hit another establishment for some eyebrow waxing she made a phone call and got me an appt while I sat in her chair. All the while proving to be one of those stylists you can build long-term bonds with.

At first glance I wasn't in love but I knew I'd made the right decision and sure enough within hours I was quickly becoming more enamored with my shoulder length, slightly layered, jaggedy cut. It somehow makes me look younger and Caroline was right the negativity towards my hair is gone.

Cost: Expect to pay around $45- 65 they charge by the hour not the job.

They usually cut dry, so word to the wise come with clean, dry hair or you can spend some extra time here.

Will I be back? Is there any doubt?
Besides, I've heard that if Todd is in the house he makes music mixes for his clients. Yeah, that should have removed any doubt about where to go for your next haircut.

Todd's shear master has done it again!!!

Daughter went yesterday to get her Keratin treatment and haircut. Yes, Todd delivered yet again....true perfection!!!

Her hair has never looked so healthy and shiny, great cut, smooth, sleek and she loves it. First time she has ever had straight hair.

His expertise, personality, style, and cool salon has many people wanting to give him a try. Four friends that saw my daughters hair, now want  to go to him.....Shoot, gave out all of his cards....He will get so busy from referrals it scares me....

But I also know the way he operates he would never let a client down, always finding time to take care of you.

True Master, you did it again Todd :) Your the BEST!!!

This is a place where you can sit in the chair and say "have fun."  I never have to worry about what I want.  Todd is there is give me a great new look which is chic but not trendy.  The salon has a feeling that is more hang out than salon.  This man works magic with his hands.

**Update**
I started doing my color with Michael Angelo.  WOW!  Like Todd, he has an eye for what he does.  Again, I don't have to worry or come in with a preconceived Idea about what I want, but I sure as heck leave loving my do!  I am pretty adventurous with my hair and completely trust these guys to work magic.

There is never a dull moment at Nue Studio.

I've been to about 300 hair-salons in my life: cheap, expensive, mid-range. This is the best haircut I've ever gotten, and it's at a reasonable price. Todd cuts your hair while it's dry and then teaches you a hairstyle at the end of the haircut. Awesome!

I have been to many salons in Miami and Miami Beach with differing levels of satisfaction.  Recently, I started going to Nue Studio after reading all of the five star reviews on Yelp.  I have to admit, I was somewhat skeptical because I thought that the staff was writing all of the reviews.  After getting several cuts with Carolyn, it is now my time to submit a review (I actually joined Yelp just to write this).

The salon is by appointment, so make sure you call ahead.  It is a little hard to find (and the salon does not show up on online maps), but it is just south of 36th street between NE 2nd avenue and Target.  I recommend asking for directions when you call for an appointment.  There is free parking in the fenced gravel lot just south of the building.

I got my haircut by Carolyn and I was quite pleased with the results - my hair looked amazing!  Like many other reviewers have noted, it is hard to find someone acceptable in Miami to cut your hair.  Carolyn is beyond acceptable - her work is flawless.  She listens carefully to what you want and then creates a masterpiece on top of your head.  At Nue Studio, they cut your hair when it is dry, so make sure you don't have too much product in your hair when you go in.

The nice thing is Nue offers free touch ups on men's haircuts (not sure about women's) after a few weeks when you aren't yet ready for your next full cut.

The ambiance at Nue is certainly very unique.  Others have described it, but you have to experience it to fully understand it.

I highly recommend asking for Carolyn at Nue Studio.  She is one of the top stylists (if not the top stylist) in Miami.

Turned out to be the most enjoyable hair cut I've gotten yet.  Super chill, with Todd telling stories of Tokyo game parlors and French Quarter trannies and model shoots gone awry, while a bulldog nuzzled my leg to be pet.  I walked out with a new book recommendation, a menu for a local place that's apparently good, and hair I was happy with.

Note: it's not on most online maps yet because the area is new. (google tried to send me downtown miami, which is wrong). It's in the Midtown Mall/condo complex in building Midtown2. that's the building east of Target ACROSS the grassy field full of dog poop.  It's on the side of the building AWAY from the Target (hidden, if you're standing at Target and looking across the field).

This is my first Yelp review and I couldn't think of a better place or person to write one for.  Todd, owner of Neu Salon, is the BEST!  I flew in from SF to visit my sister and had been dying to see her stylist since she always has the best hair.  So on my second day there I visited Todd at Nue Salon.   Wow.  The place is ultra cool and Todd and his GF have this cool LA Silver Lake, SF Mission vibe that I love.  Nothing pretentious like many places in Miami.

I've had many great hairdressers, and some not worth mentioning, Todd is in the first category.  I came in with a grown out, I'll keep cutting my bangs to refresh my hair look, and came out with a fantastic cool sexy shag.  Beware Todd cuts fast so you if you are not use to it...stay calm, he is good and can take you out of your comfort level right into that rockin haircut without compromising your desires.

Word is that Todd's haircuts grow out fabulously but no one told me that you also wake up with freaking great bed hair.  Bonus for that.

Now the bad news!  I live in SF and not in Miami and won't be able to see Todd as often as I like.  This bums me out to no end.  It's like being teased with great hair and not being able to get it all the time.  Yeah I'll say it Todd's haircut is like crack.  The good kind. :-)

After years of trying to find the right salon, I've finally found it! I have been coming to Nue Studio for a couple of months now and I am absolutely in love with it. Carolyn is just amazing when working with my hair. Everytime I walk in, she is able to give me a haircut and color that I am more than satisfied with. Along with the amazing hair services, the salon itself gives off the coolest and most relaxing vibe that differs from the majority of stuck up salons in Miami. Todd and Carolyn are just amazing and super cool people. I love this place and I don't see myself getting my hair done anywhere else but here!

You should definately come here to get your hair done!

My partner got his hair cut yesterday afternoon by Todd at Nue Studio, and...WHEW...it looks great!  Not only was the cut great, but he had a positive overall experience there.  Friendly, professional, and fun.  Check it out when you get shaggy.  As for me, I have no hair of my own, so I'll live vicariously through your experiences there.

There are few businesses in Miami that combine the following elements: A personal, family atmosphere, a hip, non-corporate spirit and excellent quality. Todd is a talented artist who happens to cut hair better than anyone in Miami, but his salon reflects what no corporate chop house can achieve, truly being on the cutting edge. Don't bother going anywhere else.

As everything cool makes a mass exodus from Miami Beach to Midtown, it's no surprise that Todd Jameson Nue Studio found its home here, too. Located in Midtown 2 (it's the studio with the cool window displays), Todd is here to redeem your hair from status quo to cool--really cool. He's more likely to give you a look from French or Italian Vogue, Spoon or Purple, not the same old, same old you'll find in every page of your freebie Ocean Drive Magazine. Need a haircut? Go here. Need a blowout? Go here. Need some color? Go here. Need a straightening solution? Go here. There's also plans for a yoga studio and so much more in the works. Hair, mind and body makeover in the same spot? Life really is better off the Beach.

I had my hair cut there a few weeks ago by Carolyn, and I cannot say enough good things about the people who work there and the place itself.  Not only do they do give great haircuts, but the ambiance is so welcoming.  You are dealing with hairdressers who are very professional and down to earth.  I love it, love it, love it!  You just feel so good when you walk out of there!
