Tobacco Road is legendary: been going there so long it FEELS like 97 years- I think it was there I first tried to exercise my fake ID. (Good job catching me and kicking me to the curb, guys!) It only accentuated its allure . It's an insane hub for people and music- from grizzled blues band to Latin fusion to reggae (and -ton) start-ups, and this weekend's birthday anniversary proved that. I missed out on on the 97 cents beers, but TR's prices are always reasonable, specially compared to how intense that Brickell strip has gotten of recent. The crowd is varied and skews older- lots of '60s refugees along with 40-something professionals- but there's always surprises. (Oooh, I met that dude from the "Cocaine Cowboys" movie! No, not the famous one, the other one!) Two things that keep TR from the five-starred halo:
1-the service is slow and the 'tenders too busy to care on "good nights." (With exceptions).
2-the place is generally unkempt- just because one likes history, doesn't mean one likes dirt. (Those bathrooms! They don't have to LOOK like they're 97 years old.)
To think it's going to be a century soon... How will I feel then?
I have been here for the jazz night and for some live music and it's so great! It's really hard to find places in Miami with really great live music and those are usually my favorite places. They have such a great variety of bands too -- I've seen jazz, rock, acoustic, reggae.
I went to a benefit for medical marijuana there once and it was such a cool vibe. There were booths and bands everywhere! Everyone was having fun and the drinks were priced right. It's really fun and I go every so often to see some good local music.
I had a good time at this place but they really need to invest in cleaning the inside a bit. The bathrooms are gross, it smells like someone died in there. Honestly has anyone at this place ever heard of scrubbing bubbles! it works wonders. Any how, it was a big group of us about 13, we had one of the tables outside and we took advantage of the 97 cent beers from 11-12:37. Everything was fine and dandy until the very rude waitress told us they were out of MGD around midnight. Honestly if you are running a special that night how do you run out of the beer that's the special. Thank god this place was empty if not they probably would have run out at like 11:15. Usually if this happens it should be normal to give us another beer at the same price say a PBR or Miller light. Honestly its not about the price of the beer its the principle and the rude waitress.
Even after that unpleasant incident I had a great time with friends.
I give this place 3.5 stars
PS why can't we give half stars?
If you're new to town and like rock music (and dives, sneakers, T-shirts, and having conversations) but have only been exposed to the very accessible South Beach club scene, then your first visit to Tobacco Road will feel like a refreshing glass of homemade lemonade squeezed by the hand of God. Yet, if you've been a few times, ventured into Churchill's, or know what else this city has to offer, Tobacco Road feels like Crystal Light. And there's nothing wrong with Crystal Light. It's just not for everyone.
It's got some cool factors:
1) Its the oldest bar in Miami (97 years old)
2) Al Capone hung out here AND the place was bad ass enough to ignore prohibition laws and served booze in things like tea pots.
3) They make a great Long Island Ice Tea
4) There's a pretty pimp zig-zaggy table upstairs with a mirrored top (very
Scarface-ish, if you catch my gist)
5) They have some decent food specials (although the food's mediocre pub fare) like a Maine lobster dinner for under $15.
6) They very much support local bands.
7) The crowd is very open, friendly, and for the most part, seem to care a lot about music.
And it's got some lame elements:
1) First off, a dive should never charge for parking. Here, they make you "valet". Which, in a way, is a turn off to the kind of person who would be attracted to a bar like this BUT the oddest part of this whole valet situation is that they never actually valet your car. You park it yourself. This has always confused me.
2) They charge you to enter, and if you're there to see a show, they may charge you again (there's a whole lot of charging at this place) and I don't know for sure, but I don't think they pay the bands that play there...maybe they pay some, but not all.
3) Most of the bands who play here come in the cover band variety.
4) Bartenders seem to arbitrarily make up the prices of drinks. And they sniffle a lot.
5) There's an older crowd here, not really a con, but, some of the patrons here look a little bit like a) slurring and sun burnt residents of Key West b) magicians from New Jersey...if this is your thing, or if you like running into characters, swap this for a positive.
6) Their staff isn't as friendly as the crowd.
But, looking back at my pro and con list, it looks like there's more pro's so, yeah, Tobacco Road is a pretty alright place...for some people...just like powdered, artificially flavored beverages.
I definitely agree with may people. This place has awesome loaded nachos. They are great with a beer.
I would recommend this bar to anybody that wants to be in the same location that many famous people have visited.
They are attached to some ourdoor venue (still don't know the name) but on FRiday nights there is 97 cent beer, and you get a Pulled porked slider with your beer. great deal!
Yummyness
- Wings! (Known for them, for good reason!)
- (i hear they are also known for their ribs. but didn't try this)
- pulled porked slider. great!
good
- Mozzerella sticks
Service is a little slow on friday nights. but if you have some patients, and great company with you... it's all good :)
And there is live music outside that is pretty good, as well as a pretty decent sound system on the back patio as well!
How can you live in Miami and NOT visit their oldest bar at least once. You can't. Not only is it a great place for booze, their food is awesome! The pulled pork slider is full flavor and the ribs run a close second.
I love live music. Tobacco Road never falls short of amazing with their shows. I was at one of their anniversaries that housed a full fair outside. The live music was local and had an amazing latin flavor that forced me to dance all night long. I love this place. Oh, and did I mention it's easy on the wallet too? Where else can you get a $.96 special?
Low key, fun, cheap, good eats (most of the time), friendly and down to earth.
Used to work by Tobacco Road and it was a great spot for lunch. The smoked salmon, avocado and pumpernickel sandwich is to die. However when I told my boyfriend that the oldest bar in Miami had good food he needed convincing. We went on a Sunday for steak night and sadly it was more than disappointing. Now he thinks I am a liar. lol.
Anyhow can't beat 96 cents drinks for 96 minutes on Friday or the history and low keyness of the place. A great go to spot to drink the night away!
Tobacco Road is starting to act it's age meaning it's getting grouchy and cranky and really that's not what I want from it.
I came here late night on Tuesday and the service was subpar. The fries were bad at best. Isn't it awful when fries are bad. I mean really? Crisp, hot, and seasoned; Not limp, lukewarm, and bland. And the honey mustard was pretty rough too. It took a long time to even get service initially so I guess I should have taken that as a sign.

A Miami institution, a local favorite, a tourist must, a great place to get a burger and listen to… Read more »
Of course I had to write a review on Miami's oldest bar! Ah good ol' Tobacco Road! Great place to just chill with friends and have a couple of drinks. I love the laid back atmosphere and eclectic music. The food is your typical bar food with the exception of a kick ass little burger called the Death Burger. You better have some cold ass water next to you when you bite into that bad boy. I'm also a huge fan of their loaded nachos, they're so damn delicious!
There's always a mixed crowd and live entertainment in The Road. They have an upstairs bar and outside patio with different music playing. This place tends to get packed on the weekends, so be prepared to pay for both parking and cover.
I had to drop a star because the service is so inconsistent. One night I'll have great service and the next I'll be ignored for 15 mins before even being recognized. I am also saddened by the change of fries. Oh how I miss those skinny fries! Regardless of it all, The Road is still a keeper in my book.
Oh Tobacco Road, how I miss you. One of my absolute favorite places to hang when I lived in Miami. Live music, drinks, food, cool bar. As I'm sure you've read by now, they have the distinction of having the very first liquor license.
The neighborhood is changing, (gentrification). But the Road has remained tried and true. (parking in their lot used to be free, now they charge) Show up in your jeans and tee, after a dress up date, or a day at the beach. Everything and everyone is accepted. I've been here for music shows, Monday night football, the Heat playoffs, happy hour, or just to meet up with friends for drinks and nachos, hell I even spent a New Year's here. (btw- nachos aren't bad, but they're not the standard nachos you would think they are) One of my friends swears by their chili. Check their website for their nightly specials. They have a great lobster special one night a week.
True locals know and love TR. If you're new, it's a must go to.
Fun place to have a drink and listen to good music. Have some great bands- there is music upstairs and downstairs, make sure to check out both.
Perfect place to get your after midnight burger and Nacho fix
I come here for the food (yes, seriously) and I must say, bring the old fries back!!! this place would totally get 4 stars if it wasn't for their recent decision to change their awesome fries... I went a few days after the switch and even the waitress was complaining about them and commenting that I wasn't the first customer to complain that night...
Why would you do this to me? I love your burgers, and I loved your fries... I feel like I've been cheated on lol
Also when you order a vodka and red bull, they charge you for a vodka, and a red bull, separately... they used to just bring you out a glass of vodka and a can of red bull, but lately they are mixing it at the bar, so you don't get the can of red bull, or a full glass of vodka, but still get charged like $12 so that's pretty lame...
Valet parking is lame too... not sure why they decided to do this, it was fine before? It's not like they take the cars off-site, the parking lot is right freaking there...
Tobacco Road is like my home away from home- conveniently located within a mile of my place. It's a great place to listen to live music with friends and knock back a few. It has a very friendly, laid back atmosphere and usually draws a pretty eclectic crowd. It's Miami's oldest bar and it shows, but it is all part of the ambiance. They're open until 5 am every night so it's a great place to wind down the night or get a late night bite to eat.
Famous as a music venue and dive bar, Tobacco Road has earned my vote for the best burger in Miami. The place is warm & friendly, despite the rundown interior and threatening-looking servers. They really will serve it "your way."
Of special note are the weekday specials. Visit the restaurant's web site to learn about deal days for lobster, steak, and ribs.
If you order the Death Burger be sure and order "death" on the side. Otherwise it'll kill ya!
The other night, Tobacco Road made me think of the sounds of sweet baby James-- Taylor. Well, it made me think of friends, actually. It's a great place to kick back and hang with a load of them - when you're down and troubled.. and you need a helping hand -- or just a frosty cold one and lots and lots of laughs.
This place is an authentic dive --live music upstairs, a dark, old bar downstairs with music pumped in just loud enough to make you want to move up close to your friends and talk right in their ear. Touchy feely. Outside - a patio to get your tobacco on - and listen to more piped in music. James Brown was playing out back when I sauntered in the other night. Yea- you can definitely Git up - git on UP at Tobacco Road. (Oh, and valet parking just $5! - HIT me!)
Get here before 9 on the weekends to avoid the $10 cover and enjoy cheap drinks (and some $4 specials.) Feel free to eat here, too. The hearty bar food menu is pretty damn good. I scarfed down the Mo' Bettah chicken sandwich - a big hunk of grilled chicken smothered in grilled onions, shrooms (no not that kind) - on a honking hoagie roll, and a generous and tasty side salad. In a word: Yum. A hush came over my chatty crowd as soon as the food was served. In a word: Munchies (no not that kind.) Very good burgers - cow and veggie; quesadillas, fries, fries and more tasty fries. Mo bettah yum.
Goodness knows downtown Miami and South Beach offer lots of nightlife - but many of those places will hurt you (your wallet,) desert you (leave you standing outside waiting to get in), and take your soul if you let them. Oh but baby --don't you let them!!
There are delectably divey and very friendly alternatives - like Tobacco Road. 'Aint it good to know...

(Damn, I wish I played the guitar.. so sweet.)
The freaks come out at night and they all hang out at Tobacco Road. This old tavern, the oldest in Miami, 97-years young, attracts no one particular crowd. During lunch hours, you will mostly find local executives like me who come to indulge in the classic road burger, served on a potato roll. I take my char-grilled sirloin meat with cheddar cheese but you have the choice of crumbled bleu, pepper jack or Swiss instead. More daring selections include the Mega-Mega Burger served with homemade chili, mushrooms, bacon, cheddar cheese and topped with a fried egg. I admit, I have been temped to try it but the thought of returning to the office with a stomach ache is not at all appealing. The barbecue chicken wings are also pretty good specially when accompanied by a nice cold beer. Do wave down the server when you see him or her, they are usually overwhelmed and not as attentive as you would like or expect.
When visiting, do not get trapped in the dim inside dining area. Try and find seating in the outside patio instead, I prefer the picnic like booths. A stage is set up at night or sometimes upstairs inside the venue. The live bands are a hit or miss. Many times they are good/great local musicians others you'll questions if its hoax or simply crappy karaoke.
Ah, the auld Tabaccy Road....I wonder what the parking situation was like there back in circa 1913 when you first got your license. Was there a $10 cover charge...I think not...$10 would have bought a shitload of prime beachfront real estate back then. The owners of the beach front real estate of the early 1900's have built and gone and built and gone again but you have endured and for that you are to be respected.
I first experienced Tobacco Road when I worked on Brickell in the early 2000's and this was our lunchtime escape from the drudgery of paper shuffling and pencil pushing. The burgers were great then. And even then it was a dark keeper of years and years of stories and songs unsung.
Fast forward through my life to my most recent visit in June of 2009...and nothing has changed. Still dark, still full of stories to be told and songs unsung. A great place to meet with people you are familiar with but not a great place to meet on a first date. The $10 cover charge kinda took us aback for a minute but hey...what can you do. Coupled with the $5 valet parking, if you are coming here as couple then straight away you have a whopping $25 right there before you even order a drink. Not nice in this economy, considering what you are coming to is in effect a dive bar.
I met up here with some Yelp friends on a Friday night on an impromptu drink session. Ordered some Guinness which was just not right...plastic cups and one pour Guinness at room temp was too reminiscent of many a street festival in Ireland. Switched to Sam Adams which was more acceptable for the rest of the evening.
Spent a couple of hours and a couple of beers, holding my sides from splitting laughing and conversing with good friends both old and new and after a few minutes of debate...decided to finish the evening with a bite to eat.
Split my dinner with my good friend Paul - we had a Mega burger with chili and a fried egg and boy am I glad I did because it was ginormous. But the chili could have been more chili like. The fries were good though.
The greatest thing about Tobacco Road for me, is that I've never gone there with a group of people I didn't want to be with...and the music is great.
omg im shocked i dont have a review done for tobacco road!! been going there for years and have always felt that its safe bet.
went on friday night for happy hour and was really excited to find out about .96 cent drink specials that change weekly. i didnt want this week specials (vodka or dos equis) so i went for $2 well drinks wow cant complain.
there was a great mix of young professionals and a more college crowd. by the time i left about 930... it had emptied out and the crowd was definitely not as great as the initial after work ppl.
parking lot if $5 but fills up quick so you usually end up parking in their additional lot 2 blocks away, unless you get lucky and score a street meter.
I kind of love this place.
I didn't even know all about the institution/oldest bar in Miami angle, mostly from my hunger-related inability to focus on anything that wasn't directly printed on the menu.
But in retrospect, it makes sense that their brand of awesome is long-lasting and enduring. Service was friendly and unobtrusive and the burgers were delicious and cooked to our liking. Aside from the tasty eats, Tobacco Road serves up a great neighborhood atmosphere, with colorful locals, a chill vibe, and a jukebox that won't quit.
A staple for surviving the encroaching South Beachification of Miami.
This is real miami.
You want tourist-ie beach and trendy music blasting in your ear- go somewhere else.
Tobacco Road reminds me, of great times, good eats and the sound of laughter coming from every table. As you walk in the darkness takes over and your excitement rises, as you try to imagine where this night is going to take you.
So you find your seat, order your drink, look around and realize
damn I love miami.
I think this place is great. It's got a good urban-downtown feel to it. Went there for Happy Hour on a Friday for 96 cent drinks, the place was packed. So go there early, we did. Young professional crowd that knows to have a rowdy good time. Inside played rock music, the back leads to a outdoor patio area where they spin hip-hop. Great vibe, you should go for at least the cheap drinks.
Outside, bumping music, drinking amongst the stars & high rises with your friends. Ah. Good times...
On a lark, and frankly, mostly because I had some time to kill, I picked up a copy of the Townes Van Zandt documentary 'Be There To Love Me' at the Austin airport while I was killing time waiting to catch a flight. That may not seem like an important (or even a semi-relevant) fact just yet, but it is.
I'm lucky in that often when I get to visit new towns (no relation to the aforementioned) I often have a little time to kill. And I learned a little something about Miami last night, namely, that if you're staying downtown and the weather's waxing finicky (in this case, read rain), it's somewhat more difficult to grab a cab. Which is a bummer, cause sometimes what can be great fun is to book it to some place that's well vetted and try it on like a sweater or a rain slick..if for no other reason, than to grab hold of what makes (in this case Miami) locals tick.
I'm by no means an expert, but I took the local advice on Tobacco Road for a couple of beers, and it proved worth the trip. By now the popular particulars have been quite covered: the fact that it's the oldest bar in Miami (my cabbie said something like 1912), the Capone appearances of lore, and the framed issue of Details from the late 90s (complete with a framed and wall hung cover shot of Matt Damon who looked about sixteen), the place is dripping with history.
Interesting sidenote: the place is a low-slung shotgun setup of a joint, and there are a couple of support beams (that kind of look like ladders to nowhere) in the middle of the room. This would be interesting, kinda, but I found it more so by virtue of the fact that they placed the house band for the night in what appeared to be a former seating area beside the suports, so if you were sitting, say, at the bar...you'd have to peer between the rungs in order to follow what was going on visually. My guess is that like most places with character they make the surroundings into what they need to be. Either way I was really in the mood for some acoustic fare after spending a few hours on the place with Townes, and these guys had the goods.
And on this night, with the rain cascading from the sky, a little Tobacco Road proved just right.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the burgers here! That with the skinny delicious fries they have and a nice cold beer = heaven!
Tobacco Road is truly an institution, 96 years and running! If you haven't been, what are you waiting for?!? It hasn't been around this long for nothing, ya know ;)
I'm not a big fan of this bar. It's a good place to hang out, but I almost feel it smells like old inside. It's way too hot for the outside.
The food is mediocre at best. The wings aren't great, burgers are ok, and french fries are okay. I feel they should have more variety on the menu.
I do like that they have live music a lot and good drink specials
Another great place for live music.
First time I came here there were bands playing on the second floor, and bands playing outside.
There's two entrances, that I know of, to this place. The Main one, where you are greeted by a bar/ restaurant (I've heard the Burgers are amazing here), or you can go in trough the back/ patio, where you will obviously find another bar. And don't worry about getting "cheated" here. Not expensive and you get real drinks.
This place has it's own parking lot on the back, for $5 for the night, but if there's an event, this will fill fast, in that case you can park around, plenty of meter spaces available.
Love the laid back atmosphere here. It's not a "I'm here to impress" place, but more of a "I'm here to hang out and have fun" place.
Not bad...for a bar. Don't get any other ideas about Tobacco Road, it is a bar, and will always be a bar, that just happens to serve food. The hamburgers are great and the chicken wings are some of the best in the area. If you want ribs, go to Flanigan's as their ribs taste MUCH better. Be careful with the tap beers and the soft drinks. I was taken aback by the odd flavor that permeated all of the beers at the table and that same odd flavor was present in the soft drinks; this leads me to believe that there is something up with the water or something wrong with the water-filtration system.
The worst part of driving to Tobacco Road is the driving -- very little places to park and very difficult to get in and out of if you are lucky enough to find an open space. Take a cab if you are headed to this watering hole.
I've been to Tobacco Road a few times since I moved to Miami, and can't say a bad thing about it except the parking situation, but that's standard in most parts of Miami. On this particular night I was going for a promotional event for Board Up Miami, which was a wake boarding event held on Key Biscayne April 25th. If you missed it this year you should check it out next...lots of boarding, bands, models, beer and food by the ocean!
Ok, now back to Tobacco Rd... The drinks were good and the cover band playing in the back parking lot was spot-on. I've never eaten there, but I'm more of a watch-what-I-eat type of person so I didn't partake in the sloppy joe sandwich thing or other greasy items they had under the tent that night. Overall, if you want to chill and listen to great bands while drinking moderately priced drinks this is a place to check out. Since it also has a lot of history it should be on your list of bars when visiting Miami...as long as you know it more of a local dive bar, and not the standard downtown Miami or Sobe club scene! ;o)
So this is the oldest bar in Miami, eh?
Well, I suppose it's a take it or leave it sort of place. I could have done without considering it was a $5 cover the night I went. I don't like reggae music so paying cover was particularly painful.
They had several drink specials. I went for the Knob Creek on the rocks. The first bartender was pretty nice after I found out from the second bartender they apparently have a "rocks" charge. What the hell? I'm not paying $2 for ice. The first bartender had not charged us for tax or rocks.
I understand this is a restaurant as well but I really resent drink prices that have a foot long bill explaining the sundry taxes and charges.
The bar is extremely long, the upstairs was quite small with another bar but that's where the band was playing. The outside patio was quite large. They were doing a crawfish boil the next day that would have overwhelmed the space but it seemed reasonable. For about $15, you got two pounds of crawfish and plenty of sides.
The jukebox was playing 80s so that was cool. The bar patrons seemed to be an odd mix of neighborhood people. A group to our left were talking about dating and one guy exclaimed loudly he doesn't date virgos.
Huh, well, I'm a virgo and I'm out of here.
Some things never change... like this place. Enter the narrow structure and take a good whiff of this seasoned bar. The mirror is covered with well stocked display of booze, small tables to the other side. The railing shows the wear of many fun nights, so does the bar top. Lined with locals the bar is full. ON the wall remnants of past local acts and other greats passing by this joint.
Continue on to the rear passing the small kitchen that is busy bringing out hamburgers, ribs and blue cheese salads. Outside. Plastic tables blend with build in wood booths. The second bar to serve the happy crowd out back.
Back inside, the narrow staircase leads to the Upstairs. The tunnel like room focuses on the stage in the back. Drum set, amplifiers a microphone. Another bar crushed into the side of the wall to keep it shallow. Few tables to the front and a tall table in center. This place is made to rock and showcase great local act, like Nil Lara last night.
Glad that Tobacco Road is still here, still well attended and still the great staple to host local talent!
One thing did change since I was here last...no more smoking inside! A change for the better...
So I went there for happy hour on Friday evening...96 cents specials...and free appetizers when you get 2 drinks? They had cheeseburgers...mini ones! YUMMY! I was impressed.
96 cents for 2 or 3 different types of beer
$1.96 for vodka, gin, quervo and miller light (draft)
I believe happy hours was from 6-7.36pm..no idea what the obsession with sixes is.
Strong drinks...good food! :)
Interesting crowd....I must say....good! :) Mid-twenties..thirties-ish crowd! Good for groups...and meeting people! Everyone's in a good mood when drinks are that cheap. Valet parking is $5 during happy hour...gets to be abt $10 if you come later.
The bar's old..but I think it has character. Would definitely come back again...relaxed and laid back crowd, good drinks..not like the typical Miami bar scene.
Tip-bit:
The live bands that were there last night...Karmasutra? *shakes head* entertaining in the funny sense.
Drinks are good...and some of the bartenderess were not very...friendly, took forever to get their attention (the ones at the patio)
Come early for 'good' parking.
Seems crowded all the time so that's a good sign.
Can't beat 96 cents happy hour! :)
Absolutely horrible. Went there to watch playoff basketball and the place was dead. The ones who were there looked like they were ready to pass out. We sat at the bar to be closet to one of the three tvs in this joint. My buddy and I in good spirits wanted to order large quantities of beer. To our surprise the bartender stated they didnt serve pitchers or had any beer specials. To top it off, no pun intended, the draft beer machine was broken. At that point, it was time to say goodbye to tobacco road. Hopefully not forever, but in better spirits.
Side note: I would have given it one star but because its tobacco road, i donated a star in its name
This was Al Capone's old hang-out, liquor license #1
I'm not much of a drinker so that makes me a horrible bar person.
I don't go here for the bar, or the music.. nope.. I come for FOOD.
Namely, the Road Burger!
Bar food? Yes, some of the best in town.
The burgers are awesome, always great, always messy.
Go for the Mega Mega burger for the all out messy experience.
You get a choice of salad or fries.. go with the fries, they're even good cold!
Grilled onions are a must, trust me.
Vegetarian? No excuse, they offer the best veggie burgers too!
Don't want a burger? That's OK because the ribs are really freakin' good, just get the sauce on the side.
Check their site for the nightly specials, like all you can eat ribs for $10.99, or 1 1/4lb lobster for $12.49
Don't worry about it's bar status when it comes to kids, there is plenty of outdoor seating available.
Not for pregnant people.
I've gone out a lot while pregnant, and it was never an issue. But I physically couldn't fit in the bar. I had to ask people to move so I could make it outside.
This was Friday night, the Road's 96 year anniversary. The place was beyond packed. They had the parking lot in back transformed into additional party space.
A little to crowded for me, but you could see that they had planned for the numbers well.
Plenty of places to buy beer.
Live music.
Extra space.
Extra porta potties.
But I don't think I got a good feel for the real Road. I need to come back on a normal night.
I went for the 96th anniversary party, not nearly as fun as going on a normal week day.
It's one of the few bars I enjoy going to every time I walk in. On a normal week day, it's low key, and relaxing. Sometimes the music is good, the burgers are normally tasty enough.
Really it would have to be in the top 3 bars of Miami for me.
i went back today as a buddy was driving. they wanted to get you for $5 to park AND $5 cover after 10pm!!! great way to run off the old locals that have made this place what it is.
so your out $10 and you get to walk into a bar and order a $7 burger!?! i keep missing this place but they keep alienating their regulars.
btw.. no more skinny fries

I think the only thing missing from some of the other spot-on reviews:
CHILLED!
Other than that, everyone seems to have said it all perfectly :-)
(Without the crowds on a non-bday night though)
Since I reviewed Tobacco Road several months ago, I've been back a bunch of times and it just keeps getting better. From the 96 cent drink specials for 96 minutes each Friday (from 6 to 7:36 p.m.) that they began last fall to celebrate their 96th anniversary, to lunches or just to just hang out with friends and check out a decent band, Tobacco Road is a treasure. I had a business lunch there late last week and was reminded of why I like this place so much. Good service, a good burger that was tasty and served up amazingly quickly in a very cool little building with lots of history and old playbills and memorabilia hanging on the walls...I happened to be here with a business associate that I didn't know very well; Since this bar and its history are conversation pieces on their own, that saved me when we started to run out of things to chat about.

Beer so cheap it's worth spooning the crowd to get to the bar. I could easily end up in this place every Friday for $0.96 beers, good tunes and a crowd and atmosphere I really dig if I'm not careful. I really like the almost back yard feeling outdoor area and old country pub feel on the inside.
The bar food they had cooking and that I saw passing me by looked and smelled great. The patrons seemed friendly, cool and darn glad for the end of the week.
I'll be back.
