I am asian, so you can trust my taste when i tell you that this is probably the best dim sum in south FL. Even though thats not saying much, this place is pretty good for my lofty standards. Ive been to Hong Kong before to taste their dim sum, and its true this place doesnt compare, but very few places outside of HK can. The location is in some random shopping plaza, where it is the only Asian thing in sight. The atmosphere is better then your average dim sum restaurant with adequate circulation. They do the dim sum by a la carte, and not using the push cart method like they do back in Houston. This is OK since even in Hong Kong its a la cart. The food is pretty authentic cantonese style, and there are very few things that i dont like. Be sure to go there early, since it frequently becomes packed on the weekends. The price is reasonable, although not as cheap as places in a typical chinatown, so its understandable.
I am a repeat customer, since this is the only place that can satisfy the dim sum cravings. This place would get 3 stars if compared to any of the true dim sum places in the chinatowns of NYC, LA, San fran, houston, etc.
So... The Dim Sum in So Flo is Few and far between... But this is one of the 2 in broward / fort lauderdale area...
Sunday lunch was pretty busy for Dim Sum. The food is good, it will fulfill your dim sum craving if you have one. The Congee is good, as is the siu mai, and the taro pudding (square shaped ones), and stuffed taro are all yummy.
the sticky rice, and chicken feet, are "ok" not necessarily a "must order" item.
But, the dishes are cheap: 2.50-4.00 each plate. so it's reasonable. and good for what you are paying for.
Another thing I was craving for when I was away for work was DIM SUM! I googled for a dim sum place around the condo I was staying at and this place came up! My brother and boyfriend happened to be in town so we gave it a try. My brother was very skeptical at first since he saw that it was not busy and there were white people there. (he thinks that if there are white people dining in a Chinese restaurant, the food is more bland and made to suit their tongue). But he was wrong...the food was decent. It wasn't as bad as what he thought it would be. It somewhat hit the spot for me. There were some plates we wanted to eat but didn't know how to order it. Service is alright...hehehe they are older Chinese ladies... =D "what you want!"
When I was a little kid I never really knew names of foods or the different types. When I was very young my mother would bring me on Sunday mornings to Chinese restaurants to have "my size food". I would delight myself in these foods that had so many different flavors and there were so many different types. Little did I know this would grow my love for dim sum and make me smile with happiness when anyone mentioned it.
Toa Toa is not as traditional dim sum, its more like NY style dim sum. I love it. A great alternative to Tropical. Just as good if not better on some dishes. Shrimp Taro is AMAZING! One thing that I will say that really stuck out to me is the NY style lo mein. I have tried for years to find this style in south Florida and Toa Toa delivers!
I have not found one dish that I did not care for yet. I will say the first time I came and I did not order off a cart it threw me off but one of the things I dont like about carts is, you never know how long the food has been sitting out and at times the hot food can be cold. If you do come on a Sunday please try to make it there when you are just getting hungry and not starving. At times it can be a little of a wait.
Love it. have been coming here for years. Since childhood. Authentic Cantonese style. Dim sum menu is great. Stir fry soy sauce noodle is simple but the taste is awesome. Price are good if u go before 3pm. Service is alright. These restaurant is sure to become one of ure top favorite.
Dim sum hotspot in Broward, this restaurant is beloved to the local Chinese community for their variety of dim sum. Happy memories of myself, sibs, and mum scribbling our choices on the dim sum order check and happily snarfing down their arrivals warms my heart.
I actually prefer the "order check" method of dim sum versus the "push cart" system cause I KNOW my food will arrive PIPING HOT from the kitchen rather then being room-temp (at least in South Florida, SF and NYC are different).
My favorites here have to be the crab balls (with a mini claw attached), the custard tarts, the siu mai, deep fried taro...
Don't worry, Toa Toa has a dimsum picture menu so you can figure out what you want . If you come here on a Sat/Sun, be prepared for a wait, this place gets packed.
Close tie with Tropical, in my opinion. Alot closer to my location then Tropical and less decorative. However, the staff is friendlier and more attentive. As far as I'm concerned...authentic. Not as greasy as other Chinese restaurants. Vast variety so everyone is happy. Assortments of whatever meat or vegetarian dishes one may like.
There were eleven of us so we ordered a ridiculous amount of food. The usual Sui Mai, shrimp & chive dumplings, lo mai gai (aka sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves), egg custard tarts, BBQ pork buns, Singapore noodles, chicken lo-mean, variety of dumplings, sesame seed balls, crab balls, chicken feet (which I have yet to try but enjoyed watching everyone else eat).
Located in a very very casual plaza. They have a menu almost anyone could order from- PICTURES make it very easy if you're one that is not familiar with Dim Sum. Went for a friends brunch. Good food, good company. No complaints.
Cantonese place. Inside the Pine Plaza. Busy, more of a mixed crowd. Food is ok. Fried shrimp and leek instead of steamed. No fish congee. Sticky rice really stuck to the lotus leaf.
It's a very far drive from Miami, so unless you're already going to Sawgrass or something, I wouldn't drive all the way out there.
