The staff here is not the friendliest and is not the best administratively - ie I had my dogs micro-chipped there and registered them with the microchip companies.
The following year, I took my dogs in for their physical exams and the staff gave me a spiel re: micro chipping my dogs - ??!! Turns out they micro chipped them, but didn't enter the numbers into THEIR system - ??
Dr. Tisdale has an associate who works with him by name of Dr. Shapiro. That man is an idiot. He makes sarcastic remarks re: your animal and his perceptions re: your care of the animal - then he makes adverse notes on the animal's chart - based on HIS assumptions. He doesn't know how to give injections, my animals have cried out in pain only when he does the injections. He has a major attitude and very distinctly gives you the impression he thinks you're stupid and he doesn't need to be wasting his time seeing you or your pet.
He doesn't listen to what you have to say - for instance, I'd taken one of my dogs in to see Dr. Tisdale for a skin condition. He'd prescribed meds and I was charged for the meds and the exam - no problem with that. A month later, I took my dog in for teeth cleaning. Dr. Shapiro had one of the staff call me and tell me he could give my dog a cortisone shot for her skin condition - I told them NO, she'd seen Dr. Tisdale and was taking meds and the condition was clearing up. When I went to pick up my dog, I looked at the bill and found I was charged for a cortisone shot! WTF!? After I'd told them NO? I brought this to the staff's attention and was told that "the doctor thought it best". I asked if he'd even looked at her chart and noted that she'd already been seen for the condition and was on meds. Got a shrug in reply. So I told them I either wanted a credit for the cortisone shot OR a refund for my previous visit and the meds. Got a sigh and a lot of mutterings under the breath. The girl sat there shaking her head while punching some data into the computer - I got the credit for the shot.
I refuse to take my dogs in to see him. If Dr. Tisdale is on vacation, I will wait until he returns. Thankfully, most of the bitchy staff has been replaced.
The reason I stay there is because I like Dr. Tisdale himself and I trust him.
My dog had bad luck with Aborn, so we decided to try this place out. The staff isn't the friendliest ever, but Dr. Tilsdale wasn't there and I saw his replacement, who was kind of quirky. (think Gene wilder)
I told them my dog had an allergic reaction before and he was very responsive and spread her vaccines out over a couple of weeks. He also gave her a free antihistamine shot when I said it was too expensive the 2nd visit.
I wouldn't give this place one star based on a substitute vet, like the review below. That just doesn't seem fair.
UPDATE: I have since gotten a kitten and had some trouble paying for his medical needs. I contacted Ohlone Humane Society and they helped me pay for my visit and actually told me to go see Dr Tisdale! This time I actually got to see Dr. Tisdale, and he was super nice and friendly. He took great care of my kitty and we have since taken him back.
As far as prices go Dr. Tisdale is the BEST. Even without the help from Ohlone Humane society, just call around and you'll quickly see he has the best rates.
In searching for a new veterinarian near our home, we decided to try this clinic. I called to make an appointment on a Saturday morning and were able to get in that day. When we arrived, I thought it was strange that we were the ONLY customers there on a Saturday morning. The staff was nice. They told us that Dr. Tisdale was on vacation so we would be seeing a vet who was covering for him.
Although there were no other patients there, he made us wait a while before he came in the room. He opened the door and the first words out of his mouth were "(sigh) why can't you have a big dog?" WTF!?! We have two small dogs. We should have gotten up and walked out right then. He looked at one of our dogs, not very thoroughly, and barely offered us any suggestions for the problem for which we brought him in. He didn't even examen our other dog, but tried to charge us for an exam. This man was the most arrogant and condescending person. He seemed very unenthusiastic about his job and instilled absolutely NO confidence in me about his professional abilities. I've taken my dogs to many different vets over the years. Many were not good, some were. This one was, without a doubt, the WORST. I would not leave my dog alone in a room with him, let alone trust him to do any kind of procedure on him. I wouldn't even trust him to give my dogs their shots.
Right in the midst of the pet food recall of March 2007, this Vet recommended we start feeding our dogs a couple of different brands that were on the recall list. !!! I guess he really doesn't like small dogs.
Dr. Tisdale may very well be a good Doctor, but the fact that he has employed this other doctor there, in my opinion, makes his judgement questionable. The staff there seemed to also think this man had a terrible "bedside manner".
The search goes on.
