whenever i go to new york, i immediately want tiny's. who knew you could get a delicious, filling sandwich for so cheap? most items can be made vegetarian, which rules and is totally convenient. the first time i ate at tiny's i ordered the grilled cheese, on thick slices of wheat bread, with juicy tomatoes and assorted cheeses. my mind was blown, it hit the SPOT. ever since then, i've been a loyal fan. all sandwiches come with chips, who doesn't love chips? on the corner of rivington and norfolk, it's a great spot to people watch, you never know who you'll see lurking in the LES.

great prices, even better food, and the wait staff is actually nice! grab lunch here, and then go across the street to sugar sweet sunshine. then send me a message and tell me how right i was. DO IT.

After making my rounds to the mini boutiques on the east side, the bf and I really needed to get our grub on.  With the nifty yelp app on the iphone, we found tiny's to be just what our bellies were looking for.  Tiny's has no sign, no nothing to say that it is indeed the place but we went into it anyway hoping it is.

We ordered the Spicy Rizzak and Hot Turkey.  Spicy Rizzak: With minimal amount of veggies and great amount of turkey, the bf was absolutely a fan. It absolutely had heat behind it with the tiny's chipotle sauce smothered on the two sesame rolls.  I didn't really like the sesame rolls... i thought it was too sesameyish.  Hot Turkey:  Our server recommended this one to us... I thought it wasn't anything special, a pretty average sandwich.  It had pepprochinis, lots of turkey, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese on sesame buns.  No creativeness nor unique flavor to kick it up a notch.

The atmosphere was nice, casual, and fast + good service.  It was a comfy place to eat out.  If I come back, I wouldn't get to Hot Turkey would probably try something else.

I tried this place because some food blog said it had the best veggie burger in NYC.  That is not true, but it was decent.

I seriously wanted to love this place because of the atmosphere, amazing vegetarian options, and cute name.  But our sandwiches just were not that great.  I think maybe it was a bread issue?  Whatever.  I wouldnt make a special trip down to LES for this place, but I would go again if someone insisted.

This is the first post that I've left on Yelp and unfortunately it has been spurred by the poor food that I had at Tiny's. Based on all the positive responses below I feel obligated to add my two cents.

My issues [Tuna Club Sandwich eaten at 8pm on a Saturday]:
1. Bread was old and dry
2. Bacon was clearly cooked hours before and thrown on as a second though
3. Tasteless tuna and tasteless mayo
4. alfalfa sprouts on a tuna club?
5. Roughly 20% price increase from what was listed on the online menu.

In the end its just a sandwich so it isn't like my night was ruined.  Most other people seem to enjoy this spot too, so I guess I just won't be going again though. Oh well.

First of all, this is getting a 5 star rating for the following reasons

1.  Almost every sandwich on the menu can be gotten vegetarian, so the prospect of eating a meatball, canjun or buffalo chicken sandwich is so incredible
2.  I got to sit next to Daniel Vosovic from Project Runway which was pretty cool
3.  The waitresses there rock...
4.  They play great music
5.  The sandwiches are made on great bread.

Just had it for the first time because my boyfriend and I were craving sandwiches..

We got take out. The bread was on the toastier/burnt'ish side... but it was still delicious for a cheap place and quick bite to eat.

Tip: The club sandwich is HUGE. It's definitely enough for two people!

Definitely going back.

Fantastic sandwiches, few places can make specialty sandwiches like this place can.  I've only been here a handful of times but have loved it every time.  If you're in the neighborhood, definitely stop by this place, the prices are fair, and you won't be disappointed.

Their build a sandwich option is fantastic too!

I don't know if they should be allowed to call themselves Tiny's Giant Sandwiches. They are really just average sized sandwiches. However, they could call themselves Tiny's Delicious Sandwiches, and I would have no objection. But I suppose that wouldn't have the same oxymoronic appeal.

I always consider designing my own, but end up getting the Southwestern Chicken anyway. It's got chicken cutlet, bacon, onions, cheddar and BBQ sauce. That's pretty much everything I want (in life, as well as on a sandwich) right there.

Great place to get cheap delicious sandwiches in the LES. The best way to go is to order the build-it-yourself sandwiches... that way you can fully stuff it with turkey, cheese, bacon, avocado, and veggies for around $6! This place also delivers which is guh-reat.

Unfortunately Tiny's is not much to look at. It would be nice if the interior wasn't so grimy feeling. Beat-up couch cushions have a way of lessening my appetite. The service is okay and it bugs me that they use plastic throwaway cups for water... can't they reuse plastic or glass?

Are the sandwiches ACTUALLY giant? No. Are they utterly delicious? Yes.

I've never been disappointed with a single sandwich I've ordered from Tiny's, and the chili is great, too.

The sandwiches have always been prepared well, there's always some attentive ladies keeping an eye on your table, and the place is cozy and comfortable.

For relatively cheap, tasty sandwiches, there's few better bets.

A cheap sandwich which tastes worse than the packaging the food came in.

We went here for the vegetarian options and the overwhelming number of positive reviews. How could you go wrong?

I'll tell you.

Service:

Our waitress was too busy entertaining her group of 4 friends that came in after us to even notice we were seated at the table next to them for 15 minutes without any menu. We were waited on by someone other than our waiter.. being offered menus by the time this girls personal friendgroup of 4 were finishing their food and getting ready to leave. It was at that point she looked over to us and asked "oh hi! do you need menus?"

This restaurant didn't advertise that it was one of those special "food served by the blind" nights, but the waitress apparently lacked any vision beyond her "OMG MY FRIENDZ ARE HERE LOLOLOL!@%" view.

Food:

You know that seitan or soy bacon you get at the restaurant and think.. wow, this is amazing, why can't i buy this at the local supermarket? You won't have that thought here -- you'll ask yourself, wow, i can't believe they go to the bodega next door and buy the horrible soy options we know to keep off our shopping lists.

SERIOUSLY. Do you yelpers really believe these are edible vegetarian sandwiches?

They try to cover up the wretched taste with flavourless cheese, overly disgusting sauces, all complimented by a generic tasting sandwich roll.

I suddenly didn't feel like i was in a restaurant. I felt like I had showed up to some poor kids house, and when asked for something to eat, he scrambled to shove any random 10 cent vegetarian options he could find onto pieces of bread and threw his last precious crumbs of potato chips on a plate. Dinner's Served!

Skip this place - it's not worth going to. At all.

If you have a craving for this place, steal their recipe by asking the bodega down the street what they order each day. Just mix and match until you don't feel disgusted by the taste when you take a bite and voila, you've got your own Tiny's whenever you've got the sick yearning.

had tiny's tasty salad, which was tasty.  the veggies were sooo fresh.  tuna salad on top.  the waitresses refilled our glasses with water pretty regularly, too.  it bugs me that they use plastic cups and cutlery, too.

their sandwiches aren't giant, either.  but tasty.

I order from here an embarrassing amount... yes, I am too lazy to make my own sandwiches =P

but! I will say that I've never had a bad sandwich from tiny's - they definitely do a better job than I would. my favorite is the my way blt - avocado + bacon, two of my favorite things. I've never gotten anything to stay so I can't speak for the service but the chicks who take orders aren't exactly the friendliest bunch.

Ive been here a couple of times and really really like it.  Every time I go I think why dont I come more often. It seems to me from the reviews to avoid the fake meat at all costs.  Lucky for me I have no morals or empathy for animals so I can stick to the real meat options.
One piece of advice that I hope I heed myself...get the small.  The big is $3 more and totally not worth it.

Nice little sandwich shop. The servers are amazingly friendly, even if they are stretched a tad too thin at busy times.

I enjoy the build your own sandwich, especially because you can get a great sandwich for $4. The chips are a bit dull, but they're a free side so whatevs.

All in all, great place to grab a quick bite if you're in the neighborhood, but no reason to make a special trip out.
And avoid the veggie meatballs.

While admittedly - and I'm not the first to say this - the sandwiches aren't "giant" by any stretch (nor is the shop, for that matter, if that's what the adjective is referring to) they sure are good. Nothing fancy - just good quality bread, meats, and veggies, and they don't skimp on the fillings. Build your own or go with one of the pre-arranged combos, you can't really go wrong. Nothing that's going to change your life, but it may change your afternoon.

Great spot for sandwiches.

A few friends and I stopped by for lunch after a nice morning of running around in East River Park

First Impression: pretty simple seating, like the menu

Had the soup (carrot ginger) and half a Southwestern chicken sandwich.  Both were good, and it was a good amount.  Very (almost overly) friendly service.  Very laid back.

The summary: good food, good prices.  Would go back if I lived in the area.

A decent sandwich. Not anything like what my friend said, hyping this place way beyond what it was. Here's the deal. You're gonna get a sandwich, it's gonna taste decent, with decent, fresh ingredients, and you're going to get service from a hipster who hates their job.

Bottom line, only if you're starving, and across the street, and unable to walk any further should you go here. The 4-5 star ratings are BS. Go try BITE. That place really knows what a sandwich is.

Not horrible, not amazing. Just a sandwich.

::SIGH::
As a vegetarian, sometimes all you want is a soy-meat sandwich with the works.  I was so excited to finally find a place that created sandwiches like that of my childhood Queens haunt, Cherry Valley (if you don't know it and are a meat-eater - check it out).  So I go out of my way to check out Tiny's and to my utter dismay, the lady at the counter tells me that they're out of...bread. Are you friggin kidding me?! Its a SANDWICH shop and the last time I checked, to create a sandwich you need BREAD.
Since I was starving, I decided to try their salad, which was actually pretty good.  Yummy peppercorn dressing.  Then they ruined it by literally turning the tables over as my friend and I were frantically trying to pack up in fear of having our own table turned over.  Ugh.
I'll re-review when I actually try a SANDWICH.

The Best Sandwich Shop I've Come Across in NYC.

John H., my resident LES insider, took me and the db to Tiny's Giant Sandwich shop.  It's on the SW corner of Rivington & Norfolk Sts.  There's no sign or awning, so be sure not to walk past it.

I didn't really have any expectations, though John H. does have good taste.  Besides, it's just a sandwich shop, right?

No way Jose!  Come try it yourself.
On the ferry ride to Governors Island, we sampled three different sandwiches the Club Sandwich (has avocado), Spicy Rizzak (bacon, chipotle mayo, and cheddar), and a turkey sandwich.  I'm not a fan of bland turkey cold cuts, but I'd definitely wolf down one of Tiny's turkey sandwiches.

Next time, I'd like to try the buffalo fried chicken cutlet, I'm guessing replete with blue cheese.  It was not easy giving Tiny's a 4-star rating (it's more of a 4.5).  We'll see if the buffalo sandwich can push my rating up to quintent stardom.

If anyone on Yelp ever notices me boozing around the Lower East Side, you'd be correct if you assumed I ate at Tiny's earlier in the evening.  I was turned on to this place by a friend who swears by their faux meats.  It later became our fortnight ritual for most of 2007.

The shop is small, but the sandwiches sure aren't.  For that price, you just can't find anything better.  You even get to customize your own sandwich!  I haven't had the cojones to give that a whirl yet.

Top off the great food and affordable prices with awesome staff.  Extremely kind.  Extremely attentive.  I'd have to be a complete asshole if I didn't give this place 5 stars.  Good thing I'm only 60%.  The rest is filler.

Surrounded by restaurants catering to the bridge and tunnel crowd who venture to the Lower East Side now that it's safe, Tiny's is an oasis for people who were there before the Blue Building and its multi-million dollar apartments. There isn't another lunch place in New York with Tiny's range of breads and what goes between the slices on the build it yourself sandwich menu. Mix in the times we're living through now and the fact that a good lunch here costs less than a large coffee at the mega-chain coffee shop five minutes away or what the tip will be at the oh so chic restaurant across the street and you'll appreciate Tiny's even more.

I know a lot of people love this place but here's how my two experiences at this place went.
First time: delivery. Ordered grilled cheese with mushrooms and onions. I knew it would be oily, but not a big pile of slop and cold cheese on super greasy bread.
Second time: dine-in. Chicken sandwich. The chicken was dry and the bread was hard as a rock.
For the prices I paid, which was like $8 a sandwich or something, I expected better. The bodega across the street from my apartment does better than that.

It's been awhile since I've eaten here (LES ain't hipster enough for me anymore), but I remember loving the Spicy Rizzak.  Turkey and bacon.  The bread was nice and toasted, the sandwich was a good size, ingredients were fresh and snappy.  I tried the club, too.  Turkey and bacon and avocado.  Aww, heezy.

On a related note, I have this pet peeve where sandwiches are too big and the top of the bread scratches the roof of your mouth, but hey, it's a sandwich.  I'll stop whining.

Tiny's is the best!  Sandwiches are huge and great value.  You can get full with a half-sandwich and the chips it comes with if you are not starving.  The Cobb sandwich is one of my favorites - comes out hot - grilled chicken, bacon, avocado - just can not go wrong with this one.  If you are not feeling like bread, Tiny's does some nice salads as well.  I routinely get Tiny's Tasty Happy Salad adding turkey to cukes, sprouts, avocado, chickpeas and your regular salad fare and always with the sesame ginger dressing.

Service is great, food is fresh and prices are outstanding and you can get in and out of there in about 20 minutes and feel full and satisfied.

5 stars. I don't deviate from two sandwiches... the rizzak and the hot turkey. They are amazing. I get a pork free rizzak when I  go there (hold the bacon) and generally I ask for them to hold the onions because they put enough that you can't talk to anyone even after brushing your teeth 3 times.

Those sandwiches are amazing. They make sunday Giant's game victories even sweeter,  and the occasional "what was Eli thinking?" moments a little more tolerable. I know I'm not staying, but would love to have chips thrown in when taking to go. Don't listen to the haters, I'm glad they'll dine elsewhere. They can go join the evil Shredder...'tonight they dine on Turtle Soup'!

I'm totally with Leo M. on the fact that you're gonna get served by a hipster who hates their job.

once you get past that, it was a pretty tasty classic BLT with chips for $5. Bread nicely toasted -check. mayo on the side - check.  tons of yummy delicious bacon bits - check. lettuce and tomato -check.

I don't know about anyone else, but I can't get perfectly crunchy bacon at Subway or Blimpie's and that's probably Tiny's saving grace.

I've passed by this small shop many-a-time, but yesterday I finally popped in for dinner. The two girls behind the counter had cool outfits (one of them had glasses which I wanted to steal) and nice personalities, and quickly sat my friend and I down. I decided to create my own "Lizwich" and order sliced seven grain bread with hummus, portobello mushrooms, onions, basil pesto, spinach, and the special touch: pickles. This build-your-own menu is quite extensive and very reasonably priced; the spreads are especially plentiful. Ah, and the sandwich itself, though my own creative child, was delicious because of how fresh and deep green the ingredients were.

My friend went the more manly route with the turkey, bacon, and cheese sandwich on semolina bread, and after a bite I deemed it quite good, with the cheese helping to hold everything together in an easily managable hero.

Chips come with each sandwich as well, which I find very cute; it's like you're seven again!

I can't wait to come back here and try some of their own sandwich offerings.

I just have to give one star to the place that was so hyped up and turned out to have mediocre sandwiches.

The servers were lovely and very attentive.  I went there by myself and asked the waitress for a recommendation.  Without hesitation, she suggested the buffalo chicken.  Let's just say that the except for the sesame French bread--which was excellent, but the restaurant plays no part in making it, only buying it--everything was pretty mediocre.

I was excited to try the potato leek asparagus soup.  I love potato leek soup, but Tiny's Giant had no business tampering with a more perfect combo as potato and leek.  The asparagus made the soup taste strange, and the consistency changed from the usual creamy to a watery mess.

The sandwich was served lukewarm and the buffalo chicken had no kick at all.  The blue cheese dressing was running, but the last straw for me was the tomato in the sandiwch.  Or should I say the REST of the tomato that should have been thrown away???  Excuse me, but I expect a sandwich shop like this to use fresh ingredients and not be stingy about it.  The "slice" of tomato I got was that last slice that should be thrown away, ya know what I'm, talking about, the part that attaches to the stem?  Well, these people had the NERVE to cut around the part that attaches to stem and put it in my sandwich.  What the heck?  Just for that this place deserves ONE star.

Sorry to be the contrary vegetarian again -- the one who doesn't like VP2 or Red Bamboo or Zen Burger -- but the faux-meat sandwiches here are not good. At all.

Before I get totally into that, though, I think the actual veggie sandwiches are pretty good (the Silly Philly Portobello or the Humungous Hummus, for example), so those three stars are for them. And I do like the toastiness of the seeded semolina heroes.

But the faux-meat is the kind you get from the frozen section, and it's not even prepared well. The veg version of the Cordon Bleu I got had an un-chicken patty that was totally squishy and soggy and the s-ham atop it was leathery and flavorless. Not a good sandwich in the least. And, no, I'm not one of those vegs who is anti-meat substitutes; I just want them to be well-prepared. Try out Viva Herbal Pizza's soy sausage and peppers hero, if you want an idea of my standards.

I'll probably come by to try some of the other veg sandwiches I haven't had, but they should really take some of that faux stuff off the menu or else re-conceive it.

An unassuming black facade with no visible signage greeted me on the corner of Norfolk & Rivington. NYC Food Guy did it again, he traveled from the UWS to the LES only to find the darkness of a black security gate preventing another culinary adventure. Suddenly, my nostrils twitched, alive, that familiar scent floating in the air; frying bacon, it was near. And with only Sugar Sweet Sunshine, Schiller's Liquor Bar, and a hardware store in the vicinity, it was a good bet that intoxicating scent, warming up the crisp winter air, was coming from inside Tiny's Giant Sandwich Shop.

Owned by a vegetarian and known for their Big Mack Daddy, a beast of a veggie burger, (any sandwich can be tofu-ized) Tiny's doesn't forget about the carnivores and puts a delicious spin on some traditional sandwiches like the Spicy Rizzak: Sliced turkey, crisp bacon, melted cheddar, tomato, onion, and some seriously delicious Chipotle mayo with a real bite.

I'd read about Tiny's a while back on http://nymag.com and was immediately intrigued. The thought of turkey, melted cheddar, bacon, and spicy chipotle mayo sounded pretty close to sandwich perfection. I finally made the pilgrimage from the UWS to the LES and wasn't surprised that my sandwich yearnings were satisfied.

The Spicy Rizzak ($8.00 on a semolina hero, $5.00 on a roll) was damn tasty, save the over-toasted and bready semolina hero. Next time I will probably get this on a brioche roll, one of the many bread options at Tiny's (Large: Semolina hero, 7-grain hero, 7-grain sliced, sliced white & Small: Semolina Roll, Brioche Roll, Sliced 7-grain). The sandwich came served steaming hot with a small handful of generic wavy potato chips.

The real star of the show turned out to be the Southwestern Chicken, a breaded chicken cutlet with bacon, melted cheddar, onion, and BBQ sauce.

The BBQ sauce was too sweet and tangy. It would have benefited from some heat. Strangely red, it reminded me of the sauce that comes with Chinese sweet and sour chicken, just not as sweet and thick. The cutlet, however, was fresh, thick, and delicious, swathed in thoroughly melted cheddar and fresh, crisp bacon.

The semolina hero was again over-toasted, but all in all, I'd be all about the chicken cutlet next time I hit Tiny's.

Now as far as Veggie Burgers go, NYC Food Guy is not a participant, but after chatting with Tiny's owner Kevin and seeing how serious he is about sandwiches, I would definitely get the Big Mack Daddy next time I go. A veggie burger topped with mild cheddar, tofu bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickle, ketchup, and special sauce all served on a brioche bun, vegetarian or not, that sounds delicious.

You can also create your own sandwich choosing a bread, a main, some basic or premium add-ons, and a spread.

Tiny's premium mains ($4.25 small/$6.50 large) include Grilled and Breaded Chicken Cutlets, Roast Beef, Smoked Ham, Crab Cakes, Portobello Mushrooms, Tofu Chicken. Lesser mains ($3.75/$5.50) include Tuna, Bacon, Veggie Burgers (large only), Tofu Bacon, Tofu Turkey, Veggie Meatballs, Avocado, Hummus, and Cheese.

You can get up to 3 basic add-ons for free ($0.25 each after): Lettuce, tomato, onions, spinach, pickles, shredded carrots, and sprouts.

---------

Places like Tiny's are hard to come by, especially when you live in neighborhoods where you can only get sandwiches at chains and bodegas. Tiny's is great because quality ingredients combined with innovative recipes makes eating sandwiches an adventure again. So next time you've got time to spare, head down to the corner of Norfolk and Rivington and satisfy the urge that your corner store never does.

I got the rizzak that everyone has been raving about, and was fairly underwhelmed.  The sandwich was good, but it didn't have the kick that people here kept talking about.  I got it to go, so I can't say much about the service, but the people seemed friendly enough while I was waiting for my order.  I think I could see this as a usual if I was walking distance, but otherwise I wouldn't come back here too often.

Tiny's Giant Sandwich Shop used to be in a very small space and serve big sandwiches. Hence the irony of the name.

Now they moved to a large shop on the corner. If they want to keep it ironic I think they should serve really small sandwiches.

Also, the sandwiches are very good.
