My ta-ta's had been badly ignored by me for awhile.

I forgot that they were important to me.

That I should spend time and money on them.

    Without getting the boob job.

I overhear some rambling's by my rather large breasted friend one day.  Speaking words of an amazing bra shop that is literally minutes from my home.  I turn my ears towards her and get the scoop.  She has the largest chest I've ever seen so I listen.  I figure she knows what's up.

So, on a Thursday afternoon I wander in there, am given a number, and am asked to fill out a sheet -which basically asks about your bra woes. Minutes later I am whisked away into a fitting room and with two quick swipes of a measuring tape... voila handed a bra.

Tina comes in and with one glance, says oops you are one size smaller.  (She gave me the bra she was supposed to give to the girl next to me)... Hands me 5 bras.  They all fit like magic.  Or so I think.

She comes in again. Seems mildly surprised that I am a 31 around, and will need my bra's taken in.  But that is only $3.85 each, so not so bad.

Bra's were cheaper than the ones I buy at Victoria's Secret, and almost all were prettier too.

All sales are final. So know what you want.

I bought 7 brand new snappy looking bras to make my ta-ta's smile.  Perhaps that boob job will never happen with my awesome looking rack o' delight now.

Got my first Tina's Closet bra today, and loving it!

Went in with a friend to pick up a donation of 501 bras brand new Tina gave to Support1000, a non-profit organization that delivers dignity by taking donations of new and gently used bras and delivers them to organizations that serve underprivileged women and families, including homeless shelters and battered womens' shelters. So, already I was impressed that this store would be so generous!

After picking up the donation and loading it into our director's car, I decided to go back and get a fitting. I've had fittings before at bridal stores, Victoria's Secret and a company that does home parties for bras. So I'm used to the poking and prodding. But most chain stores have their own sizing that isn't true for all brands. Last year at the home party was the first time I ever got a properly fitting bra. But I paid about $100 each bra with the home party, and after a year, they're stretched out (which is normal) and no longer fitting properly. I also gained weight since my last fitting.

When you're being fitted, you can't be shy. You want the brutal honest truth, but you also need to be completely up front, open and honest about your own issues, including medical conditions and what you do and don't like. Your bra should feel tight if you don't want to sag. And I learned I've been wearing my band too high, which is why the shoulder straps constantly fall down (in addition to having tiny shoulders).  A proper bra may feel uncomfortable at first if you're used to wearing one that's too loose. But you get used to it (I hated the ones I got last year at the party, but loved how I looked in them, until I got used to the feel).  But a proper bra will keep you perky, reduce back pain and improve your posture.

Tina definitely knows what she's doing. 2 quick measurements with the tape, and she knew I was wearing a cup size too small and a band size too big. I wasn't a fan of the first bra she gave me, just wasn't the shape I was looking for. I told her what I didn't like (don't be shy!) What I didn't know (and Tina told me matter of factly) was that I wanted a t-shirt bra that would also be a cleavage bra. She brought me another, and it was perfect! I threw my shirt back on and went out front to show my friend. Tina took 10years off my rack with just the right bra! The best part is that I can bend over to pick something off the floor without the girls falling out!  She found me one in black and I wore it home.

While I was being fitted, Tina also had one of her employees take in the band on my old bra (only a had it a year, but that is old in the life of a bra). She saved me a lot of money by "recycling" a bra that had perfectly good cups and just a worn out band!  While in line, I overheard another customer mention that she's been going there for 23years! If that customer loyalty doesn't speak to the wonderfulness that is Tina's Closet...!

I also asked about mastectomy bras and prostheses, and was very happy to learn that she does carry them! My mother is a breast cancer survivor, and it is very hard for her to find good bras and prostheses at reasonable prices.

Turns out Tina loves helping others.  In addition to the Support1000 donation, she also does clothing drives for homeless shelters, helps local nuns, and is collecting pop tabs from aluminum cans to send to an organization in Honduras. The Honduran women make purses out of these pop tabs to be able to earn a living. Love it!

Tina has a new customer for life! And I'll be bringing my mom in soon, too.

The bras are pricey and you can find the same ones at Kohl's.  The owner rubbed me the wrong way when she stated that if I had come in sooner I wouldn't have such saggy breasts, that she's 50 something and her breasts are great because she wear correct fitting bras.

Top it off with the fact that she put me in a bra that I couldn't breathe in and that caused red marks to form under, I don't like this place.
I spent $150 on a swimsuit that falls off of my shoudlers because I am insecure and was talked into it - its something a granny would wear.  Beware here ladies, seriously. Victoria's Secret is no better, educate yourselves with a tape measure and hit Kohl's, you'll save more than just cash.

This is a great place if you have trouble finding bras to fit you.  Tina, the owner, really is a special gal and will measure and fit you to the actual size you wear -- not the size you think you wear. :)  If you are larger in chest area this place is great and has sizes that go higher than I ever knew existed.  I got my wedding lingerie here as well as all of my nursing bras.  Also, if a bra needs to be fixed to fit you Tina does the altering herself.  Now, the bras are a bit more than you might pay somewhere else but it is worth it to me...I need the extra support. ;)  Anyway, I have recommended this place to several friends and family members....

And a side note -- she does have other items for sale, bathing suits, pj's and I think she is even selling formal attire.  They just expanded to the store next to it so I am not sure all of what they sell now.

Yuppie pond scum unite! Though visiting Tina has become a necessity for me, I always dread the visit. I give an A+ to the bras and an F- to the service! They have a great selection of bras that range into crazy sizes, so you never have to worry that they won't have a size for you, but holy moly their service sucks.

You have to wait a god awful amount of time to get fitted - I once took a friend there and we were in the store for 45 minutes before anyone even looked our way.

On my first visit, Tina gave me a whole spiel on how I was stupid and misguided for my initial bra size selection, assuring me that she'd get me the right size. Okay, fine by me, but the bra she put me in felt like a corset and I could barely breathe. I sucked it up, figuring that maybe that was how real bras were supposed to fit, but sure enough, I was still red-marked by day 5.

Subsequent visits have seen nicer bras added to my selection (when Tina is NOT doing the fitting!), but being ignored for an hour and than lectured at, half dressed, is not an experience I'll ever subject myself to again. I'm with Lisa C - go to Nordstroms and save yourself the money (as well as your dignity.)

Every woman should come here every six months to take care of their girls. The ladies are very, very nice and accomodating. Worth it every penny seriously a true return on investment.

Evening/wedding gown, and clothes are  not overwhelmingly enticing, and rather seroiusly overpriced. Entire undergarment section should be framed in gold.

I have desperately been in need of good foundational garments for some time. Ladies, you know what I'm talking about: you know you're wearing the wrong size bra but you don't know what to do about it. I'd also had two people tell me that this was the place to go in the area for bras and bra fittings. So I finally did, and I couldn't have been happier with the experience.

With the energy of a 12-year-old and a no-nonsense attitude, Tina's running every aspect of this show. You get there and grab a number from the deli-counter-style ticker (if you're a first-timer you also fill out a form about your bra issues and size etc); on a Wednesday afternoon my number came up nearly immediately. Tina herself is there to serve you personally (she said she has two other fitters sometimes but she always personally checks their work); clearly she's detail-oriented, takes pride in what she does and doesn't like having her name on something unless she can oversee that all the details are right.

She certainly got them right for me. After a measurement and my telling her what problems I always have with bras, she explained why (I was wearing too big of a band size but too small of a cup size). She then rushed off to bring in a bunch to try on. I was a little leery since they were all BEIGE, but when I asked her if she had any with color (or black) she was able to readily accomodate.

If you're not someone who can handle having people in the dressing room with you, you are not going to dig this experience. Tina will come in to check the fit, adjust straps for you, comment on shape etc. To me this is what she is there for, since she knows her stock and she knows bras! Yet I know some people are bashful or prudish, so here's fair warning for you.

After deciding on the bra I was going to go with, I perused the stock on the floor; there were bathing suits and coverups (I didn't look at the swimsuits very thoroughly, but the coverups seemed pretty pricey), some formal wear, sports bras and lingerie. I'm not sure from whence Tina was spiriting all the bras that she was bringing back to the dressing room, because unless I missed it totally I didn't really see any regular bras on the sales floor; it might have been nice to browse the stock for color choice etc.

Overall, this was a great bra shopping experience and I will definitely return. No matter what you wear, make sure you start out in Tina's Closet.

Great place to buy a swimsuit or bra. I bought like 6 bras because they do fit you well, and you will never have that bulge again (you know the one I'm talking about).  However, be prepared to wear them a few times, before you break them in. They fit you very tightly at first. I broke a blood vessel on my first wear-ouch. Only con was they never called me back on the order I left with them. The owner seems very busy--all the time. They were training someone when I was there.

I stopped in at Tina's Closet in mid January 2007, based on Chelsea's review of 4/6/06.  I had been looking for undergarments for my wedding dress, and was having no luck in the Indianapolis area (where I currently live).  I was up to see my family in the western suburbs and decided to stop in at Tina's Closet with the idea that perhaps I might find something.

When I walked in the door, the first thing I noticed was the service - I was immediately greeted and whisked away to fitting rooms to get measured for a bra (this is the store's thing - they specialize in bra fittings).  Tina herself was there, and is quite spunky!!!  They are definitely hands on, just be forwarned.  It's not a bad thing, just not something most bra stores offer (but should!).  Once I was fitted (and apparently I am a 34F or some crazy size not a 36D) the staff brought me dozens of things to try on - they did all the hard work in selecting stuff.  I found some awesome bras, both for my wedding dress and for everyday.  Yes, the bra was tighter than I was used to at the time, but in retrospect, the bras I bought from Tina are now my favorite bras and if I put on any of my older bras, they totally don't fit the same way and I don't like them.

On a side note, they also have TONS of swimwear and also some clothes.  I got sucked into trying on swimwear while I was there.  Swimwear shopping is usually traumatic, but I actually found two suits (a one-piece and a tankini) there.  And Tina's Closet did free alterations on one swimsuit (added a band in the back of the suit for better boob support, made the suit a little less cleavage bearing, and fixed some sag in the butt).  And all for free, and they even shipped the suit back to me in Indianapolis.  Again, the helpful staff pulled at least 35 swimsuits for me to try on.  It was seriously like a fashion show with both Tina and at least two other helpful staffers giving me their candid thoughts on the bras and swimsuits.

This is BY FAR the BEST RETAIL EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD, bra shopping, or any other type of shopping.  I am planning to make it a point to do all my bra shopping with Tina's closet, even though it requires a 3.5 hour drive for me from Indianapolis.

YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED when you shop here.  Seriously.  I can't say enough about this place.  And I'm fairly young (27) so it's not like this is a bunch of old-ladies trying on gramma bras here!!!  (But they have gramma bras, too!) :-)

It's expensive, but aren't your boobs worth having the perfect bra?  And speaking of which, I dropped over $300 on two bras and two swimsuits, and just wanted everyone to know that they take credit cards, since Yelp isn't showing that they do.

I am very pleased with my first time visit to Tina's Closet.   This is one well run shop.  I arrived about 11:00am on a Saturday.  I had to wait about 30 minutes to get fitted but once in the fitting room, it was zoom, zoom, zoom, and within 10 minutes I was walking out of the fitting room wearing one really, really comfortable bra home and taking another with me to the check out counter.  I'll be back for sure.

I've been going to Tina's closet for the past 2 years now, and the experience is worth the trip. Tina has seen me through somewhere around 70 lbs. of weight loss, and has never made me feel self- conscious or uncomfortable when I go into her shop.
The first time I went to her, I had found her website and called, I was completely stoked to find out that she actually carried bras in my size! For a lot of people who can go to the local Target, Wal-Mart, department store of some kind and be fitted, that's not a big deal. For me, it was a Godsend because, unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective), I am an uncommon size. I went on a Saturday and waited to get in for a fitting for almost 2 hours! (ugh!) That's how I learned my lesson and never went back on the weekend again. (She has later hours on Thursdays to accommodate the 9- 5 crowd, by the way.) Tina does a fitting every time you walk in the door. She finds something that fits where it needs to and then alters the rest so you get a perfect garment every time.
I'm used to spending $60 to $70 on a single bra because I've had to my entire adult life, but I can understand why this would be off-putting to those who are used to paying $20, but the way I see it is this; how long do those $20 bras last versus the $60 ones? And can you take them back to the store and have them altered when they get a bit stretched out the way that anything made of elastic and spandex will do? For me, those things are worth the extra dough.
Tina's manner is brusque, and I can see how for a lot of people this would be off-putting. For me, it makes me more comfortable. She's very "down to business", but she's honestly trying to provide a quality service. I also like that she doesn't have some sort of sales pitch going on. She asks what you're looking for, and gets you in and out. I also like that she's always been honest with me. If something looks awful, she says it does and then goes and gets something else.
All in all, my vote is that Tina and her little shop are the cat's pajamas. I will make the trip to Lisle from Rogers Park on public trans because for me it's totally worth it!

WoW, I can't believe I forgot to review this gem of a undergarment shop! I have told dozens of people about this place! Tina knows boobs!! I heard she was writing a book about women and proper fittings, I don't know if she ever finished it?? I know she has been asked to be on Oprah as well!! Beware- when you see Tina for the first time, she doesn't mince words! She tells it the way it is! You may not like it, but she'll put you where you need to be! She can be a little hard to take. My Mom is still afraid to go in there since my wedding when Tina told her she was wearing the "way wrong bra size"! For someone who is constantly dieting and thinking she is way smaller than she is doesn't want to hear she just went from a 38C to a 36F! A little shocking. Tina will make your bra fit right, she does alterations on her own merchandise. You will be in good hands, have an open mind!!
