For what it is, Tina's is as good as it gets. Super cheap, super greasy, and open right at bar close. And Tina is seemingly always there.
And they DELIVER, for when you're so hungover you need someone to bring your hangover food directly to you.
(718) 497-6890 for delivery
ACTUALLY good: the banana pancakes
Rant:
Bushwick hipsters need to check themselves. Your momma cooked food similar to Tina's? Your momma is whack. Unless you're a nearby Boar's Head worker on the swing shift, there's really no reason to stop in besides that soothing feeling you may get (if you are low in self-awareness but wealthy in prick-ish tendencies) when walking into places intended to meet the needs of a specific demographic (the aforementioned Boar's Head workers and families living paycheck to paycheck) and calling it "authentic" as a way to assuage your upper-middle-class white guilt. The food is terrible, the tv is loud, how is this any different from a d-list Houlihan's?
Specifics:
Tina herself is a total caricature, and a charming one at that. The service here is very kind and well-meaning, and she has a wide selection of herbal teas. But her food is best described as "junior high cafeteria and army ration...fusion" and that can't be overlooked.
I work at a nearby studio, and we came here for our Friday lunch (paid for by the Boss Man). Should've just gotten delivery from the Nat or Olive Valley. Overheard phone conversation between Boss Man and his Devoted Manager: "We had a field trip to Tina's today...there have been some interesting changes...the prices got higher and the food actually got worse...crazy, I know..." My burger was a hockey puck, the fries were of the Ore-Ida variety (passable!), Q's mashed potatoes were made from instant flakes and MARGARINE, and my other co-workers' Philly sandwiches were salt bombs. Oh! And! And! My clothing and hair reeked of old grease for the rest of the afternoon from sitting in Tina's for a half-hour. No. No. No. I love cheap eats as much as any other Bushwick kid, but when they mess with my sexy? No.
I think the description that Yelp uses for three stars is appropriate here: "A-OK"
Don't walk into this quiet corner breakfast spot and expect more then what your mamma would make you on a week day. Let's keep in mind that Tina opened this place for the workers of the neighborhood. She opens around 530AM and closes soon after lunch. Simple, cheap food is the best way to describe Tina's.
Now that I have moved from Bushwick I honestly miss seeing Tina (the owner) a few times a week for a good meal, as cheaply as I could make it myself.
Tina's gets 4 stars as a diner because they are always friendly, the food is always cheap, and totally satisfying. Is it the best food you're ever going it eat? Will it be your last meal? No. But if you just got out of a bar, and want some breakfast on the cheap, or just woke up and want some pancakes with a smile, Tina's is a nice place.
This is a perfect breakfast spot. They make a good, hearty, American breakfast with no foo-foo fancy frills. On the downside, the service is a little bit lacking and sometimes they forget things about your order.
I would of loved to go to this place when smoking was allowed in New York. Perefect place to just chill out, smoke a cigarette and drink a cheap coffee. It's a place for real people with real, basic, cheap food. It's tasty though and the prices are the best in the city. Four bucks (from 3.am. until 11 am.) for eggs, bacon (or ham or sausage), toast, potatoes, AND coffee... 3 if you don't want the meat! Tina is amazing and so nice.
The place opens at 3 Am and closes at 4, so it's a great place for late night breakfast or a cheap lunch. The place is small but clean, and the vibe is friendly. A diner at its best.
Great, cheap, quintessential diner food. I order in and/or go to tina's at least once a week. Delivery is timely, and they will come back if there is a screw up. Eating in sometimes requires patience. Tina can get quite saucy when they are busy.
Woke up hungry and ready to start the day. Been to Life Cafe a few times so we needed an alternative. Looked up breakfast spots within a few blocks and read that this had breakfast plates for $5 and under. Place was half packed with hipsters and minorities. Typical diner interior. Family oriented. The grandma was our server and the 12yr old grandson was the busboy. Food was average and filling. Not bad at all. Great place to go if you're too lazy to cook your own bacon, eggs, and potatoes.
I'm trying not to be too harsh here, I understand Bushwick really needs a good diner and all, but this place sucks. The food sucks, the prices sucks and the service really sucks. Suck.
Tina's is awesome. typical diner food, nothing fancy. open from around 3am to 3pm. Tina is always behind the counter when I go in. I don't call her by name but I hear others talking to her. Great prices, even for bushwick, reminds me of a cheap country diner.
I had somehow always managed to walk around this place on my way home, and never noticed it despite being 2 blocks from my apartment. The perfect spot for a cheap brunch- as previously said, you can get a full meal for under $5 bucks. If you're as tired of Life Cafes' prices and lines as I am, head down the street to Tina's for a more 'local' experience. Definitely a hidden gem.
Baby Jesus died so Tina's could rule your faces!!!
Tina's has odd hours (3am to 3pm) but is perfect for late night or mid morning craving for american diner food. It's basic, cheap, and delicious. For a mere $4.00, you can get (count this) 2 eggs, potatoes, 3 sausage links, 2 pieces of toast, AND coffee. Awesome.
If Tina's were a girl I'd always wear a condom. But everything there is so good and cheap. It's the diner of my dreams.
