    Still a fan!

The hairdresser who originally cut my hair here left so I was taken care of by Emily and she did a great job. She listened to what I wanted and just before she got down to it, we decided to add a bit of a side bang. She was worried it might not fit my lifestyle as it was going to be in my eyes all the time but I went for it anyways. I appreciate that she told me her concerns rather than just saying I should get them.

Great haircut! It ended up being about $63.

It took me 6 weeks to calm down before i could write this review. If i had not waited all this would be is a list of profanities.

I give two stars because my color was great....however, probably the worst haircut I've ever had. This is disappointing because the girl was super nice and this was my first salon experience in NYC since I moved from Atlanta (a new hair dresser is terrifying when you've gone to the same place for 8 years).I really wanted to like this place, I wanted this to be my new salon, that will not be the case.

First of all, they over book and work on too many people at one time. I sat with color on my hair for what seemed like forever, while my stylist worked on someone else. Finally the owner of the salon started to wash it out, probably because he could see the look of concern on my face.

Now to the haircut. I was horrified when the stylist started thinning my hair without my permission. That's just not something you do without consulting a client. My hair is already thin!!! Why the hell would you make it thinner?!? I just recently went to get another haircut (from a different salon) and my new stylist informed me that my cut was also uneven in the back... Which means I walked around for 6 weeks looking like an idiot.

While the color was beautiful and the girl was friendly, a bad haircut is a bad haircut. The juggling of clients makes this place feel like a factory, not a salon experience. Go somewhere else....

I've decided to give this place another star for the courteous response I got from the owner after my frustrated review. He seems to be a classy guy.

I'd rate it 4 stars, but the stylist that actually cut my hair has since left, so it feels like the best thing for me to do is try to be a "non factor" by making my rating 3 stars.

Usually I only bother to rate places that I hate but not the case this time. I just got my haircut by Rosemary, she did exactly what I asked even when I was being kind of vague. I asked her to keep the length, add layers, volume and thin out my bangs and thats what she did and it turned out a lot better than I had hoped and it only cost $62 + tip shampooing that felt really good included.

I will definatley be coming back. I couldnt find anything i didnt like about it.
This place is small but its neat and not cramped. They use high quality products and isnt out of the way. and everything took only 45 -50 minutes.

Being half asian with some super thick tricky tricky hair, it is very hard to find a stylist that is able to get my color and cut perfectly. Okay maybe its not all my hair's fault, as i am extremely particular about my cuts and highlights.

Timothy John's Salon has worked wonders for me. Every stylist's scissors have touched my hair and i can personally attest that each stylist has a magical touch. They do thorough consultations to see what you want to do with your hair, give constructive opinions without being overbearing and help you achieve what you want. No blind scissor happy mishaps here!

The last time i went to have my highlights done, Kristina NAILED IT. Perfect perfect perfect highlights. And thats saying alot. Having half asian hair with a crazy coloring history, my hair is not the easiest to lift or get the right tone. My highlights are gorgeous, natural looking and not a hint of brassiness, orange or crazy red.

One word to the wise, however - they do get super busy weeknights after work and on Saturdays, so i would definitely call ahead to make appointments! and they always work to fit you in as best as possible, even if its packed up - jump on the waitlist! Its definitely worth the wait.

I give this place 5 stars - super friendly, talented stylists without the attitude. And my hair has never looked so fabulous!

When I first came to this salon, I loved it, but now time after time, I am disappointed. It's less about the quality of my cut, because I never walk out upset with that. So please note that the cuts are pretty good. It's more so that I feel like I'm always getting cheated out of more and more money when I go. It's just simply not worth the money.

I will never go back after my last experience there. I got my hair dyed for the first time, I just wanted a little dyed, they quoted me over the phone $30 in addition to my $70 haircut. Long story short it ended up being $118 in addition to the $70. The color faded within 2 weeks leaving my hair green. Granted it was a funky color to begin with, but just wish that my stylist explained a bit more to me instead of just sucking me out of money which is what they usually do there. When I went back to get their mistake fixed, it still cost me money.

This place is just not worth it, it's not genuine, somewhere along the way this cute little place lost it's charm.

After getting a terrible haircut in Boston while traveling for business, I decided it was time for a trim, but even after 5+ years of living in New York, I hadn't found a place to get my hair cut that I was entirely happy with.

So, after walking past Timothy John's for the past 3 months (I moved into an apartment a block away), I decided to make an appointment, and I'm very happy that I did.  Not only did he listen to what I had to say, he took his time, explained exactly what he was doing, and made some very good suggestions.  I left with perhaps the best haircut I've had for the better part of a year.

Everyone on staff was extremely friendly, and they do offer a referral card (you get a $10 credit for everyone you refer).  I'm definitely going to be a repeat customer.

I had a GREAT, painless, smooth and speedy experience here last week and I highly recommend hitting up Timothy John's.

I was on the UWS (sort of alien territory to me) and I realized I could not go another second without a serious haircut.  My dead ends were sort of out of control and it was getting to the point that I was embarrassed to walk around.  I pull out my trusty iPhone and type in "hair" for a search around my "Current location."  Timothy John's got 4.5 stars.  Solid.  I called them up and - yes - I have an appointment in fifteen minutes.  Beautiful.

I walk in, meet my stylist, who was sweet, down to earth, personable and caring.  She listened to what I wanted, gave me her opinion and got down to business.  I love my haircut and I bought the product she suggested (Moroccan curl cream).  The best part is - I was in and out within an HOUR.  That might not sound unusual to some of you, but for this Greek girl with ridiculous amounts of thick massive hair, that's certainly a feat.  I'm gonna go back for highlights as soon as I can coordinate an appointment.  Yay!  It's nice to find a place where you feel at home.

Okay so I go to a "hair salon" and I'm a straight guy, so what.  I got sick and tired of going to barber shops and getting a mixed bag when it came to hair cuts.  I'd always end up with a military style by the time they were done.

That said, I found this spot by doing my usually google hunt and was very pleased with the results.  I've been here quite a few times and have always been greatly satisfied with the results.  All of the stylists are very qualified and have good taste when comes to the cut.

It's a little pricey here but I don't care as long as I don't have to go home and check my new do and then "repair" whatever damage it may have sustained, which I have never had to do here.

Now the only reason this place doesn't get the five star is because it can be a pain trying to get an appointment, yes they're that good.  I am also a fly by the seat of my pants type of guy so I call at 3 trying to get a 6:00 appointment, yes dopey at best I know.  I also know this isn't a good justification of why I won't give them five stars but this is my review so bite me.

This is a great salon with some interesting specialities for the ladies that I'll never have to get because I just don't need japanese straightening or any other hair styling oddity.  I recommend Amy although everyone who has cut my stuff has been excellent, I just like her sense of humor.

Lastly, great spot... Go get your hair cut ya hippie!

I went to this salon recently for a haircut based on the reviews here.  I have to say I was pretty disappointed.  The haircut was not horrible - I did not need to hurry out to have it immediately fixed.  But the cut and the overall experience was just meh.  I have had better cuts elsewhere and I don't think this one was worth the price.

I called before hand and described my hair as long and extremely curly.  The receptionist told me that it would cost $90 for a cut by Tim himself; a very good price for the senior stylist I thought so I booked an afternoon appointment with Tim.

When I got to the salon, the receptionist directed me to Tim. He washed my hair (using mostly Bed Head products) and then sat me in his chair and asked me what kind of cut I wanted.  I told him that I really had no set idea of what to do with my hair and I was looking for suggestions on a cut that would look good with my face shape.  Although he nodded as if he understood, he didn't offer any suggestions. Instead, he proceeded to, in essence, have me teach him how to cut my hair (i.e., "how do you normally cut this section?"  "should I cut this piece like this?"  "should I cut this piece an inch or an inch and a half?").  That would be fine if I had a set idea with how I wanted my hair done, but since I kept telling him I was looking for something different and for suggestions, it was kind of annoying. I was hoping as a senior stylist he could say something like "I think you would look good with bangs and shoulder length hair" or something to that effect and I would tell him to go ahead and he would just do it.  In the end, I got pretty much a trim.

When he was done, his assistant dried my hair.  She was the first person to offer me a drink (tap water in a dixie cup).  She didn't completely dry my hair at the roots and when I went outside, my hair immediately started to frizz.

The staff was not rude but they were not exactly friendly either.  They only person I encountered that attempted friendly chit chat was the stylist who dried my hair.  She was nice.  Maybe, everyone else was dragging because it was a late afternoon appointment.

When I checked out the receptionist charged me $115, not the $90 I was originally told on the phone.

Overall, not horrible but I was not impressed.  Certainly not worth the price.

Make sure you go to Feliciano for your haircut, he is the best in the city in my opinion and he's super affordable! I went to him when every other salon in the city butchered my hair in the sake of haute couture hair and haven't left since! Just came from a hair appointment at Timothy John's.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. There was a mix-up with my appointment. I wanted a hair cut and a full highlight. I was scheduled for only a hair cut...and all the stylists were booked. I have a soft voice, so I suspect that that didn't speak loudly when I made the appointment. The staff still made time to color my grey hair and give me a great hair style.

    They did an awesome job.

Elena did a great job defining what I wanted. She was unable to do both the hair coloring and hair styling for a good reason...she was scheduled to undergo medical treatment. Elena did a beautiful job in coloring my grey roots and blending the new color with my current color.

Ashley then took over to style my hair. I said that she could do whatever she wanted, as long as my hair didn't look like Dolly Parton's hair. For some reason, many hair stylists give me an old, poofy hairstyle, till I tell them to stop. We both agreed that an 80's-style haircut would be avoided. :D I am so thrilled. Ashley gave me a simple, gorgeous haircut that will be easy to maintain.

Feliciano fine-tuned the hair style. To be honest, the haircut was beautiful without the fine-tuning...but the fine-tuning really made it even better. :)

The price was extremely reasonable. The hair coloring was $90 and the hair style was $50.

I have another appointment at this salon for December. I look forward to having my hair done at this salon, when my husband and I return to NYC for New Year's Eve 2009. :)

after finding tim jay's on yelp, i popped in after work for a trim and will definitely go back.  very cute interior, very nice stylists, moderately priced (i think in the $80s-- gulp, i know, but come on, it's manhattan).

downside is that it took forever--but it was busy with the after-work crowd, the chick who was doing my hair was juggling another client who was having her hair set.  maybe next time i'll try a weekend or over lunch.

Over priced ametuer hair dresser. worst shampoo ever, did not listen to what I wanted and ended up with something that I didn't want. in my opinion, anyone that uses thinning scissors extensively to cut hair shouldn't be charging $67 for a mens hair cut. It seemed like the woman was just trying to pump out haircuts. she doesn't have a passion for hair dressing. don't go here!
