One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
Damn it I LOVE this place! It's packed to the gills with good people, good food, and good booze.
God save you if you're not a Notre Dame fan on game day. I count myself among the Trojan faithful, making me public enemy number one on any given Saturday. After an afternoon of good-natured trash talk those nutty Irish fans even bought me and my friends a round. If that's not good people, I don't know what is.
The food is fried and oh so good (although it took my stomach a good 24 hours to recover from all that grease). I'm a fan of the SnakeLite, a take on their Snakebite.
Park in the lot behind if you don't feel like braving the street. The crowd is pure football fans during game times on the weekends, so beware if you're on the prowl for a sports-free meal.
I'm going to make this quick and simple.
A great bar, sixteen tap beers, full bar with good pourer's, nice employees and most importantly great food. My friend SO loves this place and I'm so jealous that he lives down the street from a great neighborhood bar that has a welcoming feeling and is comfortable.
If you have never been here before, you're hungry for some better then "bar food" and you want a stiff drink or something from the tap, Make your way here and you will NOT be disappointed.
It gets my rare 5 stars because of the combination of food, alcohol, service and the neighborhood bar feeling. I wish it was bigger in size, they do have a second floor.
This place isn't great, but it does a few things right. First the bad -
Truly awful service, it's so bad you don't even get mad about it at a certain point, you just find it hilarious. Mediocre pub food.
The good -
Corned beef stew, a warm rollickin' atmosphere, guiness, snake bites, smithwicks, itty-bitty TV's IN the booth with you - inspired.
I went to Timmy Nolan's for happy hour and was quite pleased. It did have a sports bar feel, but during Monday night football, it wasn't a huge scene, packed to the gills with screaming, loud-clapping, jersey clad dudes. It was chill. The TVs weren't too loud.
I sat upstairs and ordered chicken strips and a pint. It was all pretty good. Standard stuff. If I lived in the area, I'd be at this place all the time. :)
Busy Busy Busy.
So busy for a Sunday night that after being ignored for 20 mins, and then having to wait nearly an hour for my food to arrive the drinks were taken off the bill.
A nice gesture, but meh.
This place is in Burbank/Toluca Lake? I feel like I'm in Boston, I never been to Boston hehe.. But I'm sure the bars are this chill and theres tons of cool beer on tap. I love the up stairs and the big screen TV I got to watch Arsenal FC and Jaws on the same day! (I was there for a while) I recommend this place if you like a nice irish bar with a cool small hometown feel to it.
i love timmy nolans!
Every time I eat there the dishes are great. I love that they have Alligash White on draft, it's become one of my favorites because of Timmy's. It's a great place to go with a group of friends... it get's a bit busy though too, so be prepared to stand until you can find a spot.
the staff is friendly and for the most part efficient.
Def one of my favorite spots in Toluca
Yelp god bless you, you've done it again.
So I'm sitting in my room, craigslisting and what not when the phone rings.
"Yell-oah" I say, "Hey it's the old man! I'm flying into Van Nuys! Let's get some brewskies!", "Um, Okay" "Cool see you soon!"
Click.
Van Nuys?? Shit where is that again west northish valley right, what's around there.....I don't know! Better stick with Yelp on this one.
So I find Timmy Nolans and we show up to a packed house, and a really really awesome location.
The beer was cold, the staff and clientele were all super cool and the food, oh the food was to DIE FOR, the bangers and mash I had was hands down some of the best Irish food I think I've had in years.
I'll be going back for SURE, but not unless I'm found stuck in the valley for one reason or another.
Short Version: NORM!
Long Version: I'll admit that I don't go to as many bars as I should. Truth be told, I'm not thrilled by many of them. But Timmy Nolan's gives me hope. In fact, I find it stellar for many reasons. First, the atmosphere here is great. It really does feel like one of those magical neighborhood bars where everyone is friendly. Plus, the place actually looks cool. Second, the staff here is so friendly and down-to-earth. In other words, it doesn't feel like Los Angeles to me, which can be a bonus if you're trying to avoid a scene yet still trying to find a fun place to hang out and have a drink. Third, the food and drinks are exactly the level of quality you hope to find. Plenty of tasty food and drinks that taste great, pack punch and aren't watered-down. Fourth, parking is actually easy to find in this neighborhood! Fifth, no matter who you are, you feel right at home.
If you're in the neighborhood and looking for a great place to spend some time and have a drink, check'em out. You'll be glad you did.
Out of all of the places that the Book Club has convened to discuss our love of books and our hate of Yelp drama, Timmy Nolan's is probably the best venue. I liked the cool, neighborhood bar feel of this joint.
William had his 1st CD Mix UYE eons ago and I don't remember much about that night except the taco truck run that Wes, K-Fed, and I endured......
During our discussion of the above events (bring back John C), I decided to order the J Boogie Melt that William suggested. Chicken sammich with avocado, bacon, and swiss on grilled parmesan sourdough. I was expecting the typical 3 star bar fare when my order arrived, but I was pleasantly surprised. Damn tasty w/the trusty Budweiser.
A shoutout to our waiter who actually split our orders BEFORE we asked. Every waiter should do this when a large group dines!!!
I'm not going to wax poetic on the rest of the place because there are other reviews for that......
Can't hate on the place when the owner writes you a really nice, sincere note - I'll be back afterall:
Hi Christyn,
I'm sorry that you experience at Timmy's wasn't top notch, and i apologize for that. As you saw on Fridays the place is crazy and with our limited space and a small kitchen we still try to take care of our customers to the best of our abilities. Although sometimes it's just not enough. Please come back and give us another try, perhaps on a weekday and try our food again. I promise you will have a different experience. Thanks for your review,
-Dennis

Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
Your name.
You wanna go where people know,

All those night when you've got no lights,
The check is in the mail;
And your little angel
Hung the cat up by it's tail;

Roll out of bed, Mr. Coffee's dead;

Yeah..... it's that type of bar.
Timmy Nolan's is a fantastic neighborhood pub!
They have a simple menu with affordable prices. They offer the typical pub menu and then some... to my surprise they serve the best tasting & fresh ahi tuna salad!
The bar is simple without any gimmicks... just good standard drinks and friendly service.
Timmy Nolan's is a loud two-story joint with unhealthy fried foods and cocktail waitresses in low-cut shirts. In other words, everything you could ever want in an Irish pub! It's a great place for large groups to get hammered at, or to run solo. In fact, it's expected of you to get drunk and lose your mind, so don't disappoint. Tip: whatever you do, don't drink 6 pints and call the large male bartender "leprechaun dick." I did it once as a lark and regret it.
This is by far the BEST bar I have ever been to. They have all of my very favorite beers on tap, as well as a few new favorites! Everyone is so nice and extremely knowledgeable about the beer they serve there. Everyone from the owners to the bar backs are sweet as can be! I went to Los Angeles recently (I live in NYC now) and I went every day I was there. The chocolate brownie dessert was phenomenal...By far an amazing find (by my best friend Kimmi) I will come back to LA to see friends and family, and come to this bar! I give them 10 out of 5!
Timmy Nolan's is probably one of the last neighborhood bars in Los Angeles.
It's somewhat small place until you realize there's an upstairs. They have a pretty good selection of beers on tap, including Harp, for all of you non-burnt-hops drinkers and a mean Irish Nachos. They have Guitar Hero in the back upstairs, which can be entertaining to watch people play when toasted. There's also some televisions on both floors, so it's a good place to catch the game (Fight on!).
There is plenty of parking in the back behind the pub. It can get crowded, so like anything related to alcohol, show up early.
The place to be on a Sunday. No, I don't think you get it.
THE place to be. Hell, even on a Thursday.
I gave a pretty decent review last time, but had a few complaints. Well one of the managers e-mailed me hoping to make ammends. Nice touch. It worked.
I had one of the best days ever here last Sunday. I was at the bar from 10 am til 4. Pathetic? Maybe. Fun times had by all. Woo-Hoo!
Starting with anywhere we wanted to sit in order to see all the t.v's, following up with walking in and saying a hearty "Hey!" to half the bar that we knew. After positioning ourselves just so, we had rounds of mimosas and breakfast burritos. Now, unless you NEED that burrito as I did you might want to go a little lighter (I couldn't remember the evening before as I pounded down half of the product that makes up Temecula, Ca)--it's loaded with eggs, cheese and bacon, LOTS of eggs, cheese and bacon. You know, the grease was dripping out. A decent $6.75 for the burrito and $7.50 for the mimosa.
Next stop, Blue Moons all around...and let the Niners, Steelers, Bills, and Patriots begin.....
The waitresses and bartenders are so friggin cool here. They come around every few minutes and the place is packed. They don't rush you and they even take a beating. Halftime is here and it's time for free dogs. Sidenote: this is a Chicago/New York bar so watch your back if your rooting against the Bears or Bills, I got off unscathed watching the Niners...but only cuz I'm a girl.
And after a day of winning our day was topped off with the bill being "taken care of". Wow. Just wow.
Whoever/wherever you are Mr. Nolan, here's to you and everyone who knows your name!

Just a quickie....
Still the best neighborhood pub around.
True pub in every sense.
It has always been a great pub but some how it is even better now.
Fantastic selection of alcohol, coolest owners/ bartenders, great food and a killer jukebox.
Don't even think of going anywhere else (uh hmm Lucy's) !
Update: Timmy's installed a new, digital jukebox. You can find everything on it now! The best part: the bartenders can control the volume. Cara excellently exercised her discretion and lowered the sound when somebody played Bon Jovi (probably requested by either the b-boy wannabe with the crooked Red Sox hat or the mullet-man, both of whom did not look like regulars) and turned it up to 11 for the Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly. Ahh, now Timmy's is perfect. Thank you, Dennis!

Honestly I would give it five stars for the sauteed calamari alone....holy moly it's to die for. But this is an Irish Pub, and with that said I can definetely guarantee it won't disspoint you on any level. It's a neighborhood hang out, it's charming, intimate, and fun at the same time. Their are a lot of industry people there since it's so close to all the studios. Don't be fooled by the older writer/producer bunch who just pulled up in their Ferarri's and tried to convince you to come hang out at their "hot tub party"...not that it's ever happened to me or anything. But you can definetely expect to enjoy yourself and maybe meet some interesting people in the process!
This is one of those places where when you walk in it feels like everyone else knows each other. Which is great if you're one of those people but if you're not it's nothing more than a regular bar.
They've got a good on tap selection and a pretty quick bar. Downstairs gets really crowded but upstairs not as much. Surprisingly the pasta tastes better than the french fries.
I'll go there again to meet one or two people but wouldn't take groups here.
This place is awesome. I've been here twice now, and both experiences have been stellar. The service is awesome, the atmosphere is incredibly welcoming, and everyone in there is friendly.
I came in on a Saturday night after a bad experience at their neighbor bar Lucy's 51 (see my review). What a pleasant change from there to here. It was around 11:30 and it was full, but not so full that we couldn't find a place to stand and sit. The bartenders were great at getting our drinks out. We got to play guitar hero on the big screen upstairs. A full on bagpipe corps came in and played 5 or 6 songs (http://www.youtube.com...). And the Irish Nachos were delicious. It was awesome.
This has become one of my favorite bars in the Valley.
Timmy Nolan's Tavern is a nice place for a cold brew, maybe even 10 cold brews....
The location is great and no at all hard to find. I spent most of my time here on the second floor where I had went for a little event planned by Mr. William S. Upstairs was a little tight but I was surprised still at how many people it actually held. There was a bar also located upstairs which made it easier for me to get my drink on since I didn't have to walk downstairs and possibly trip and slam my face on the floor (thank god).
The smoking area in the back was OK, it was again.. tight; since it was located pretty much on a fire escape looking stairwell.
I need to come back here and actually try the food but overall I like Timmy Nolan's Tavern for its two story venue and its convenience of having two bars (one down stairs and one up stairs)
Many moons ago I lived in the neighborhood, and Timmy Nolan's was a common place for me to hang out. I recently had occasion to be in the Toluca Lake/Studio City area on a late Friday afternoon, and stopped in for a drink and dinner at the bar.
Timmy Nolan's hasn't changed all too much. Sports on the television, good pub grub, busy but friendly bartenders and waitresses. The decibel level was pretty high. The post-work crowd remains overwhelmingly from the entertainment business, many of whom work in the nearby studios.
I don't quite view Timmy Nolan's as rising to the level of a Cheers-type bar, but for LA it is as close as you can get to that type of environment.
As an Englishman born and bread in working class Liverpool, I like to think I know a good pub or 'Ale Ouse' when I see it. Unfortunately Los Angeles has alot of bars but not many good pub type places.
Timmy Nolans for me is one of the best Pubs I have been to in this massive, great city of ours. There is a very relaxed atmosphere in the place and the owner/ barman Dennis is the friendliest one I have met over here, I cannot say enough about Dennis, he always comes and talks to me and my Wife and definately adds to the cool vibe around the place.
The downstairs has a really good JukeBox and is the place to go if just a couple of you, the upstairs is the place to go if you are in a group or ordering food....Also, you can play guitar hero upstairs...awesome.
The food is typical pub food, you are in a bar, don't expect world beating cuisine, although it is better than alot of other pub grub I've had!
The Drinks, They have a massive selection of beers so you shouldn't go thirsty :-)

I walk in after Amy and Linden's engagement party. I am wearing a black dress, low cut in the front, and a teal cardigan on top. Could I have stood out anymore??? It's definitely a local bar. The first floor was filled with regulars who were having a laid back time. They were looking at me like "Who's this Asian chick and why is she dressed up? Lost???"
I wasn't lost. I was at Timmy Nolans Tavern. Who would have thought you would find CJ here? Well I guess you guys did huh? Upstairs was where the crazies were so I went directly upstairs to my peeps.
Ok. Here it is. William S' CD event.
What an interesting and fun event. For his event in particular, Timmy's was great; except the "smoking section." We had the upstairs to ourselves, two bartenders (who didn't know how to make my Washington Apples but it's okay), tv's (Dodger game), booths, and the stairway which quickly became our social smoking area. The upstairs was packed, the outside stairway was packed, and it was hot inside. You would have found me outside quite a bit since I felt congested every time I stepped in.
William's CD event = 5 stars.
Place itself for the event = 4 stars.
Would I think to come here on a random drinking night though? Probably not.
Good times though! :)

Revised:
I couldn't see the sign for this place!!! but someone how I found it. I guess it's a good thing for an Asian girl to have GPS right?
Walked into the bar and got looked at like they'd never seen a dressed up Asian chick before. Whatev.
Went upstairs, chilled in the booths with the girls, chilled in the "smoking patio" and smoked, almost fell down the stairs, and had some drinks. It was a good night at a chill bar with stiff drinks (even though they didn't know how to make my drink). Good times, good people, and always an interesting night with Yelpers.
The boys got to watch the game and they also got to see some sweaty Yelpettes since it was hot as a mug in there. All good though. We all squeezed together in the "patio" eventually as one of the lovely loud Yelpettes yelled about a certain song. Peter Gunz anyone?
:-)
xoxo!
I liked this place. We came here for the Yelp CD Swap event so it was swimming with Yelpers. The rest of the crowd seemed cool, but I'd like to try it on a non-Yelp event night.
The drinks were good. Big glasses and strong. And the price was definitely good for its size.
The downstairs contained a large bar and some tables, and the upstairs had cozy comfy little booths and a small bar. At first I thought we would have to keep going up and down those stairs but unh-unh!!! I loved having the bar up there! And although the upstairs was packed with Yelpers, I think on regular night it wouldn't be too crowded.
I really wanted to try the food but didn't get to. =-(
But I'll be back and will try it then.
Timmy Nolan...damnit....i told myself yesterday after Will R.'s potluck event that i would never drink again.
i got drunk at the park...and took a nap...woke up and felt like crap...telling myself, "alcohol is a bad choice...no more!!!" 40 minutes later...i arrive at Timmy Nolan's Tavern and see the beautiful beer on tap...as well as the Patron machine that keeps the lovely tequila quite chilled to keep it extra smooth.
i couldn't resist...i drank...and drank....and drank....and damnit it was awesome. we were here for William's mix CD event, but walking in here, it was already my kind of place. it had me at hello...because i love pubs and this one was definitely a sweet pub. there were plenty of people and it looks like you'll have a decent time here, regardless of the night.
we were upstairs and i liked that they allowed us to walk in or out whenever we like...to get some fresh air or just have a cigarette...however you roll. the prices were pretty much normal...as much as any other place in L.A. the only complaint i had was that it took a really long time to get drinks at times throughout the night. and i understand that there were a bunch of us Yelpers...but it still took a long time.
and thank God for that net they had up there because a cup fell from a table (it wasn't me...i'm blaming Sergio) and just fell on the net instead of someone's head downstairs...which would have not been good...it would have been funny...but not good
ho ho ho! Merry Christmas.
Timmy Nolan's helped me recover from what was a VERY dry Christmas Dinner. The fact that they were open while everyone else closed was amazing. The fact that they had Chimay on tap made me the happy as a clam. I chugged it back like Billy Bob in Bad(der) Santa.
Man oh man, the St. Patty's day debauchery thats gone down here. I still have a budlight 4 leaf clover necklace hanging in my car from 06.
I've been here twice, both times for birthday parties, one being my own.
When it was my friend's birthday, she was able to reserve most of the upstairs for us, which meant easy access to their plasma and all it's Guitar Hero glory. Whoo hoo!
When my birthday rolled around, well, I picked this place for a few reasons, which I will now mention:
-ample parking in the back...a much sought after luxury here in LA
-ability to reserve space for FREE...also a much sought after luxury
-not too loud and crazy, but not oldish and boring either
The bartender, Rane, called me beforehand to confirm the reservation...and when I showed up, gave me a free drink for my birthday! They make good, strong drinks for a pub, because after a few, I was....well, smashed. The food is ok, nothing spectacular, but it does take awhile to reach the table....most notably because my friends decided drunky-drunk laura should get some food in her stomach, and well...that never happened until I had to step out and have a one on one with my new friend mr. trashcan.
All in all though, if I lived closer, I'd be here quite a bit, just hanging out and improving my guitar hero score, because it's a nice neighborhood spot.
Timmy's is like a real version of Cheers, and even if everyone does not know your name, they will by the time you finish you leave. Without a doubt one of my favorite places. You will not be able to find a food you don't like or a beer that won't get you wasted. I recommend the santa fe chicken sandwich.
Sit back, meet some friends and chill!
Well, after we got past the "parking in Timmy Nolan's Rear" jokes, we walked around downstairs and then upstairs. My first reaction was that everyone in the place was on the payroll at one of the local studios. It was all hipsters. I kinda felt outta place. Then there was a group of girls who looked like they were going to a club. Weird....
I liked the fact that they have Blue Moon on tap. Its by far, one of my favorite beers out there!
Things I didnt like:
- although very nice, there was only one waitress taking drink orders on a Saturday night with football on. Bad form.
- (didnt eat) but the mix of the greasy food and whatever else was going on made it smell like a movie theater. Not a good smell.
- the juke box only had classic rock. i wasnt in the mood.
- its a neighborhood bar... and i'm not from the hood.
- the tables were really dirty.
- one toilet for the women's restroom. this is ridiculous for a bar.
All in all, I probably won't come back.
Where to have a drink in the valley? It's one of the eternal questions, like what makes Cheetos so orange.
I don't mean where to go to get drunk, or where to go to pick up women, or where to take a date. I don't do any of those things any more, but sometimes I want to meet a colleague for an adult beverage, and I want somewhere decent, clean and with only a dull roar.
Wife and I were to meet a former co-worker. He suggested Laurel Tavern, which may be very nice but I feared it would be crowded and noisy. So what about Timmy Nolan's?
Timmy Nolan's does a fair job being an Irish bar, but their desire to also be a sports bar diminishes it somewhat. Still, on a Tuesday night the upstairs was not very crowded. I had a Harp, the wife had a black and tan, the former co-worker had a gin something. We ordered just a few apps -- the chicken fingers and the irish nachos. Eh -- nothing special.
But for a civilized drink, it does the job.
Anybody got any other ideas?
Awesome!
That usually sums up my reaction after leaving good ol' Timmy Nolan's. I have friends who live in-and-around Toluca Lake, so once in a while we'll go here and hit up Mo's right afterwards.
It's set up as small-looking bar, but it has stairs. And guess where the stairs lead to? Another floor full of tables. Which means more room. Which means more of your friends can sit together and booze it up like guzzle hounds.
We usually order fries and chicken fingers while we gentle up our drinks and get a glow. Speaking of drinks, their selection of beer on tap should assure that they at least carry one of your faves. It's pretty sizeable.
The vibes I get from this place make me feel like I've been here many times before, where in fact I've only been here twice. The feeling never changes. And it has a different aesthetic to all of the other bars I went to. The closest vibe I get is an Old Town Pasadena vibe, but I feel more like I'm on the east coast. Good thing? Bad thing? Or...and east coast thang? Hmm.
All I know is that it does get pretty crowded up in this mug. If you're cruising on in with a bunch of people -- like my last visit, for St. Patrick's Day -- then best to get your feet cast inside early. You can stand, but a large group of you hovering like caveman who just discovered fire ain't the most enjoyable experience. If you're cruisin' with one or two, than it doesn't matter. Just a tip from from me to you.
If you're ever around Toluca Lake and you want to hit up a bar that brings the best out of you, get rollin' to Timmy Nolan's.
Just waking up... OMG I don't even know where to start... William S. had his Mix CD 1.0 event here last night and it was soooo much fun. I came with Leena B. my sister and at first I was hesitant because the downstairs was a little small and I was like how are we all going to fit in here... Then Leena was like Oh look upstairs and we made it up and the rest is history... I had a blast with all my fellow Yelpers as always... and I ended up with the Cupcake :) Till the next UYE but I definitely want to come back here :)

I've been here before.
No wait, I don't think I have.
Timmy Nolan's says it's a hybrid of a sports bar and Irish pub.
I am leaning more on sports bar. It's way bright inside and definitely seemed like a locals sort of place.
I liked that the ladies' restroom was the first door you encountered although I automatically assumed it was the door closer to the back until this long line of guys pointed to the right door. Wait, let me get this straight, there is a line for the men's room but no line for the women's restroom? Oh hell yes! And it was clean. It was funny to me they even used the same hand soap I buy from Trader Joe's.
Skylar had told me a while back she didn't like Irish whiskey except for Redbreast. Guess what sign was on the wall upstairs? I pointed it out to Skylar and had a taste.
I am a self-proclaimed Jameson girl but I could see myself drinking this whiskey with one or two ice cubes in the glass. It definitely is a lot lighter than Jameson and lingers on the tongue.
I wasn't really drinking so I was paying attention to the bartenders but the girl gossip was the bartender (Rain/Rayne?) was hot. Oh really? I might have to take a gander.
I'm not a smoker but I did hang out on the fire escape overlooking the vast parking lot (why did I park around the corner two blocks away?) not because it was that stuffy inside but when you have a mob of people, sometimes it's easier to have conversations outside.
I heard a glass drop from the upstairs to down below which was interesting considering there's netting to prevent that sort of drunken shenanigans.
Overall, I like this place a hell of a lot better than the martini bar down the street.
I like this place, but I don't love it. I blame it being too remote and too far from the SGV. While it is a nice place, it isn't remarkable enough to go out of the way for.
With that said, this place is pretty darn cool. They have two stories, where you can see (or oggle if you prefer) the people one the first floor from the second floor. There's a safety net - that actually was needed a few times as drunks lost their drink over the ledge of the 2nd story.
Respect, Part 1: They have hendricks here and the bartender will get you freshly cut cucumbers upon request. *Correction* Ask for cucumbers and the bartender will cut you a WHOLE CUCUMBER.
Respect, Part 2: Fredrick, the butler from Gs to Gents (http://www.youtube.com...) , frequents this place. He doesn't talk too much. This is the extent of our convo: Yes, he's on MTV. Yes, it's a little goofy. No, he's not going to tell you who won. Yes, Frederick is his real name.
I had a really good time here! Yeah I was with alot...Alot of good people, but I liked the bar as well. They didn't take too long to make my drink and the drinks were good! They didn't make them weak or strong.
Just right.
The bartender....Lets just call him Mr. Belvedere.... Very sexy. What can I say.
This might not matter to some people but to me it's incredibly important...The bathroom was clean! I wasn't scared to go in there, or touch anything. That's admirable for a bar.
I get the impression that it's generally a laid back bar, just me and all the other Yelpers at Williams event were loud asses. Which was also awesome.. But thats another review.
I came for a UYE and I was a bit scared. I had no idea where the hell Toluca Lake was -- I'm directionally incompetent. I couldn't believe that there is a large parking lot behind the bar. I was able to park for FREE? No need to valet. No need to play bumper cars and squeeze into a parallel parking spot. It's refreshing to go drinking outside of LA.
I had a fantastic time. 2 dirty martinis and a shot (thanks Hannah!) and I was pretty damn liquored up. I'm hoping I didn't look quite as wasted as I felt. So, clearly I don't remember the decor. I just remember being upstairs and it was nice and warm. I felt all cozied up with Yelpers. The environment was highly conducive to shooting the shit with random strangers. I met cool peeps and 2 hot Bengali girls!
8/18/08: Can I give this place 5+ stars??? The owner messaged me.. I love the fact the owner cares about his patrons. Cute overload.

How incredibly adorable is that? SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS PEOPLE!!!! I will be back Dennis, I love Timmy's!!! I heart you as well:)
I've been holding off on writing this review because I'm about to talk about one of my favorite haunts and I don't want this review to attract a bunch of attention from the douchebags around L.A. The last thing I want is to be forced out of a cool local spot by the invasion of douches from over the hill.
But after witnessing some rather un-hetero preening from my friends at Timmy's last Saturday, I think I've made contact with the douches I fear and we are they.
Anyway, I love this place. I was first introduced to Timmy's a scant half-year ago even though it's within a couple miles of my house. It's everything a cool dive bar should be, unassuming, has a large bar, cool staff, lots of provisions, TV's all over the place, they even have Guitar Hero. My first time there my buddy Chris asked me, "Do you smell that?"
"Smell what?" I replied.
"No cologne." he answered.
Indeed. And that may be a fundamental trait of dive bars, no pretentions, just people who want to have a good time, enjoy some drinks, and perhaps meet some new people.
Plus they can pour you a black and tan, and I don't care if a bar crane kicks you in the sack and smacks your face with a dead otter when you walk in, if they can make a black and tan, that place is A-OK in my book.
Seems like everytime I go to Timmy's with my buddies we have a legendary time. Ample parking in the back, which may or may not house one of my buddies sleeping in his car, waiting to sober up.
I can't speak much on the food, since I haven't eaten much there. But all the bartenders I've met there have been very cool and one even foiled my buddy's attempt at a funny yet crude pick-up line. It was awesome to behold and she earned our total respect with it. Say hi to Dennis, who I assume is the owner/proprietor. He's a really cool dude and always open to saying hi and shaking hands.
Plus they have a lot of hockey memorabilia on the walls, and if there's one thing I like more than alcohol, it's hockey.
