7 reviews for Time After Time Vintage Thrift Shop
Is this place supposed to be vintage? Man, I must be really out of the loop... my friends and I treat this place like a thrift store or a Goodwill. However, it functions really well as a thrift store/costume shop, so bear that in mind.
The keyword here is density; this shop is absolutely tiny, and it uses every inch of space to great effect. You can spend loads of time in here sifting through clothes that are really quite cool, or interesting at the very least. I find myself always referencing the leather coats - of which there are 700 - when I talk about this place. It really has something for everyone.
As with other places of the type, your main problem will be in finding exactly what you're looking for; the store always seems to have everything EXCEPT what you really want. Keep an open mind when you're here and you just might find something excellent.
Men's selection is excellent. The prices are really cheap. I bought five pairs of old school shorts at $6.99 each. Autumn is the real reason to visit- she knows her stuff.
Amazing jean selection. Funny enough, most of the business comes with Halloween and the frantic madness of the Franklin Street congregating. I still have the pair of 70's jeans with the window-detailed pockets, high-rise crotch, and tiny, tiny waist that will never fit. Someday, someday.
There used to be a location in Greensboro, but when it left it forced all the thrifters out of town to the Chapel Hill spot. Never before have I seen so much crammed into such a small space. Scarves in overflowing bins, vintage pins, clip-on earrings, bangles, sunglasses, postcards, knickknacks, souvenirs, all retro, all authentic.
The dresses are something to be awed at. Every type of style and era represented - from 70s flowing maxi dresses to fitted forties frocks. The men's selection sprouts bowling shirts, polyester pants, and vintage tees from all over the country.
Time After Time is a definite MUST for any Franklin Street excursion. Park illegally in the McDonalds lot across the way and spend your allowance here.
I always try to stop by Time After TIme whenever I'm shopping on West Franklin. I'll agree with William that it seems to be more thrift than vintage to me. The selection turns over pretty regularly, so it's wise to drop in often. I can never really find cute dresses that fit me well, but if the price is reasonable you can always go get it tailored. The real reason I stop by is for the accessories. I found a great bakelite ring there once and I've also picked up several scarves. I usually spend at least an hour in here, so I'd say make sure you have enough time to search.
I heart Time after Time, I love that they have so many options from various era's in time. The dresses from the 40s are especially lovely-- makes me think of the movie "The Notebook", I loved all the dresses the main character wore-- so lady like. This is one of the major shopping portals in the days before the Franklin Street Halloween festivities. I've seen guys in those funny old school golf pants that make you wanna holler, and girls in a dress from the 80s with their cat eye framed sunglasses with rhinestones on them. You've got scarves, ties, jeans, gems and jewels to get all bedazzled in, so take your pick.
Almost every Halloween costume I've ever had came from Time After Time since starting college. They have one of the most unique selections of any thrift store I have ever been too, and despite a relatively small footprint, they manage to cram a ton in here. The staff isn't that helpful, as most of them work part-time and can't keep track of what is coming in and out. Come ready to scavenge for that perfect item, because it is probably hidden somewhere in the deep piles of clothing found in Time After Time.
The key word here is "thrift", not "vintage". Read: You can find stuff here, sometimes, if you're willing to look, but if you go in looking for something specific, you're going to leave disappointed.
That said, if you're on Franklin Street and want to kill some time shopping at a place where you might possibly be able to afford some of the clothes (I'm looking at you, chi-chi boutiques of Franklin - did you think this was Dook or something?), it's awesome.
And you really can find clothes that are wearable. I've bought quite a few things here.
