6 reviews for Timber Cove Inn
Just had my wedding here last week (Oct 09).
The setting was Spectacular. Such a pristine rugged, beautiful setting for our wedding... it truly was stunning.
The staff at TCI are very friendly and all of our guests were very happy with their help and friendliness throughout the weekend of our wedding.
The food for our wedding was catered by the same chef of their restaurant (Alexander's). It was TERRIFIC. All of our guests raved about our wedding food and we were thrilled.
Beds were firm and comfy and nice rustic setting with UNBELIEVABLE COASTAL VIEWS at most of their rooms.
Some small critiques worth noting:
NO CELL SIGNAL. if you are heaviliy dependent on the mobile network you ought to bring a calling card because signal in the area approaches zero. They do have WIFI for the main lodge area but otherwise you are stuck so be prepared.
VENUE UPGRADE. Evidently this property was bought out by a larger company not too long ago and is still in the process of minor remodelling...
the reason i bring this up is that in our honeymoon suite we actually didn't have Hot water for 2 of the 3 nights we stayed at. :( it was tepid...
Perhaps this is due the "growing pains" but who wants a tepid shower during their wedding weekend???
DESSERT: the dessert bar for the wedding were good but not spectacular. A few were REALLY REALLY good and others not so much. Given how good the food was (appetizer/entree etc...) I was hoping for another home run but I ended with a serviceable "ground rule double"
Despite these minor flaws I would strongly recommend TCI for any "getaway" weekend to the sonoma coast for the setting is truly spectacular and many of these "flaws" listed above are easily rectifiable and are truly minor compared to the phenomenal place and setting.
Gorgeous location. The rooms are spacious and have HUGE jetted bathtubs, which is a huge draw for me. any place that has oceanfront views, jetted tubs for 2, and a fireplace all in the same room is a clear winner for me. It's great for a romantic getaway, and the view is so awesome that you don't feel guilty for hiding away indoors if it gets too cold out. I would absolutely stay here again.
Dinged one star for HORRIFYINGLY BAD service at the restaurant, both for dinner and for breakfast.
Loved it. Stayed in the off season, and was blown away by the physical beauty of the grounds; and the price was right for what we got.
Grounds: They have about 4 or 5 acres of ocean front property that captures the "rugged" side of Sonoma County that really must be seen to be appreciated. It reminded me of Asilomar State Beach without all the annoying rules about where you could and could not walk (benefits of a private location, I guess).
Room: stayed in the "loft style" unit with the "forest view" and jacuzzi. (Translation: "forest view" means you can see trees on the property as well as the parking lot. However, because it was the offseason, it actually was pretty and serene.) The room area is small, but if you are like me and like a "tree house" style environment, then this is perfect. They do have a large screen TV, but no microwave or fridge. The jacuzzi was wonderful, and was much larger than I would ever have expected.
Food: The restaurant is probably a 2.5 star place. Nothing special, but that may be my taste: I prefer grilled or steamed items with light to no sauce, while this restaurant tends to have richer, poached items with cream sauces or the equivalent. Wine list is decent, but they do not do anything but the house wines by the glass (and the house wine is not so great).
Hotel: The inside has been remodeled and is truly "cozy." They have wireless, so you can bring your laptop down to the fireplace and enjoy the setting. The staff were really friendly.
Word of advice. Bring a supply of food and a phone card, because there really is nothing within a 30 minute drive of here. However, if you have a good book, a good companion, and a love of nature, this is the place to stay. Would definitely return.
Mediocre
Compared to all of the other places we stayed on our trip (Vancouver to San Francisco) this place was expensive with poor facilities. Not even coffee making or a fridge in the room.
The setting is beautiful, the main lodge is tastefully Craftsman-style wood/stone, the cove and ocean sides of the hotel both had nice views. The rooms were nice, with flat-screen TVs and balconies.
We got the dinner 6-course prix fixe package combo with the room. The food was overall quite good, all the proteins were properly done and tasty, and the portions were generous. Better than I was expecting. And the outdoor fire pit was very nice at sunset.
However, the restaurant service was pretty bad. I'm not sure if they're understaffed for the MLK weekend, or if the new management hasn't cleaned house yet, but they really need to improve this. I saw lots of unhappy faces because their dinner was taking forever, the waitress didn't give silverware, and it was generally difficult to get someone's attention, etc. Probably the worst service I've seen in a while, at any grade of restaurant. I talked to a number of people who said that they had gotten comped for their troubles, they all had similar experiences. I would gladly have paid a few extra bucks for dinner to have had better service.
But, it's a lovely place, with potential to be a very nice getaway spot.
We stayed here for a birthday/anniversary getaway. I took off two stars because it needs some serious updates (like an ice machine close by and fridge in the room). The location is TO DIE FOR - almost completely isolated - no annoying people and no kids (always a plus!). The rooms were clean and well appointed, but the bathroom was tiny. Also, unless you are intimate with someone or really good friends, don't stay here. The wall in the bathroom doesn't go all the way up to the roof so there is very little privacy during bathroom time. Ahem. We had a hot tub in our room which was clean and large enough for two. Our room looked out on the ocean and it was such a gorgeous view! Also the raccoons (which are very sweet and quite tame) come up on the deck at night. They ate bread out of my hands (sooo cute!) and were very sweet and gentle. Some stupid wimpy female animaliphobe in the room next to us started squealing "Don't feed them! They'll bite!" I told her they were gentle but I really wanted to ask them to go over there and bite her face off. Just because. I can't stand people who are afraid of animals, bugs and reptiles. Seriously. Get a grip.
They could also update the dining room and restaurant although the food was excellent. We would definitely stay here again.
