(Try to) get a table on the lanai. Do this by RESERVATIONS
Order AT LEAST TWO (or more) of the following items below:
Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi
Prime Rib Poke with a Side of rice
Cajun Seared Ahi (RARE)
Coconut Shrimp with a side of Thai Chili Sauce
Calamari Katsu
MOCHI ICE CREAM (local style baby!)

After, grab a drink at the cocktail area where the bartenders and cocktailers will show you a good time (with delicious drinks of course) If your at the bar, JP makes the best bloody Mary, ask Nate for the "naterade" shot, and Danny has awesome tropical drinks.. ask for his suggestion. Frencis, Nash, Rick, Eddie n Todd... hell, all the bartenders rock! Just remember to TIP and have fun with the live local music ...
If Uncle Joe is there, ask him to take a picture in front of Kipu, and be sure to grab a lei from Auntie @ the lei stand...
The Crew at Tiki's are for the most part seasoned, fun-lovin', local, hospitable and HOT! Give them a chance.. they are working hard to stay afloat in this horrible economic time while competing with big-time corporate restaurants around them like Yardhouse, cheeseburger in paradise and the devil himself, The Cheesecake Factory! (You can get this stuff anywhere, go local in Hawaii!) I would know. Before I moved, I spent a lot of time at this bar and grill.. a lot.. SO trust me ;)
Have a Delicious, awesome time :)
P.S- Happy hour is a new addition. and it's also awesome as well.
P.P.S- ReMember... this is Waikiki beach, not some hidden un-touristy beach.. prices on the strip are typically more expensive for many understanding reasons.... so don't be surprised at the bill.. !
I've been to Tiki's three times now with out of town guests. Two of those times all I had was a beer and the ahi poke. The beer was good. The poke was also good but they use too much sesame oil. It shouldn't overpower the fish, but here it does...
My third visit was about a month ago. My friend Paul had just arrived from Boston an hour earlier for a two week stay. He wanted to go somewhere casual (not tough to find here), with outdoor seating and a view of the ocean (tougher to find on Oahu than one might think) decent food and beer.
We were seated at a table along the front rail so Paul and I were happy with the light breeze and the ocean view. We again started out with the ahi poke (I love poke and Paul had never tried it before, but loves it now) - still too much sesame oil, (at least they're consistent), but otherwise very good. I ordered a Longboard and Paul got a Fire Rock. Both were skunky and flat. Once we were able to flag down the waiter (it took a while, and they really weren't that busy), he seemed to disbelieve me when I explained to him that the tap had gone bad. Until I explained that I live here, drink these beers regularly and know how they're supposed to taste, he didn't want to do anything about it. Once he understood that however, he seemed happy to replace our beers with something else - we chose bottled beers this time.
I ordered the Cajun Seared Ahi, and the waiter explained how it's cooked (seared on the outside, rare/raw in the middle). I told him that yes it should be raw inside, and thanked him. (Since this is a 'touristy' place, I assume some people get thrown by the rare/raw fish inside - just eat it people, that's how it should be!). Paul ordered the Seared Ahi Salad; same deal with his fish prep. When the food arrived, my fish was overcooked. I mean, really overcooked. There was no part of it that was even slightly rare, much less raw. it was dry, and crumbly.
Note to chef: 'Seared' is *not* French for 'shoe leather'.
I couldn't find the waiter. The Kalua pig mashed potatoes and the roasted asparagus were excellent, but I really do wish restaurants would stop the practice of 'stacking' foods. I really didn't need the fish dredged into the mashed potatoes. It really is ok to place the foods next to each other.
Paul said his salad was ok, nothing special, but good. Paul's fish was also overcooked, but not nearly as badly as mine was. Still can't find that waiter...
If it weren't for the entertainment and the fact that Paul had just come off of a 10+ hour flight and was tired, I might have made a bigger deal of it all. Entertainment? Nope, no band was playing that night. The table next to us had a 4 or 5 year old boy named Noah who took an instant liking to me (for some strange reason), and hung out with us and kept us thoroughly entertained. Yes, mom was attentive and concerned he was bothering us and we assured her that he wasn't.
I'm not in Waikiki very often, but I will go back to Tiki's at some point. I like the venue, and it's worth giving their food another shot.
I was pleasantly surprised that what I expected to be a tourist trap was actually pretty decent. Well, on our first visit anyway. It recommended by the hotel concierge where I was staying--the Waikiki Beach Marriot Resort and Spa--because there weren't many restaurants nearby open for service at that hour (between lunch and dinner).
For our first visit, I had the seared ahi (tuna) salad, which was probably one of the most beautiful culinary creations I've ever seen. The colors of the romaine lettuce, mixed greens, thinly sliced snow peas, tomatoes, yellow (and I think red) bell peppers, chunks of purple Okinawan sweet potatoes, and a halved boiled egg come together really well with the sesame vinaigrette (Japanese-style dressing).
At first, when you start eating it, the flavors seem kind of disparate, like an armful of pretty models in a room who don't like each other very much. But when you toss the various ingredients together, letting the dressing meld the flavors together, it really starts to make gastronomic sense.
My boyfriend had the crab cake loco moco, which he thought was too heavy but which I really liked. I mean, you can't go wrong with eggs, sticky rice and gravy. I'm a purist when it comes to crab cake and don't like it when there are too many sauces or elements to take away from the flavor and texture of crab meat, so to me, it could have been a lump of ground beef or some other animal protein.
For our second visit, we wanted to eat something healthy, so we got the fruit bowl in a carved-out pineapple half. Ironically, there wasn't actually many pieces of pineapple in it, just the boring old combination of honeydew and cantaloupe served at every salad bar, with a few tiny pieces of watermelon. In fact, there were more watermelon seeds than there were actual fruit. Topped with plain white yogurt (very sour), toasted coconut and toasted macadamia nuts, with brown sugar on the side.
My bf and I both thought that the it would have tasted a lot better if the yogurt were mixed with honey or if honey were available, and there were more nuts and more interesting fruit. We dug into the pineapple "bowl" and scooped out little hunks of the fruit. The kitchen staff could've done a better job of carving up the fruit. Either leave more in the bowl so people can carve into it, or carve into it more deeply and put the chunks in the bowl.
I also got fish tacos. I forgot what kind of fish it was...maybe mahi mahi? The fish was overcooked, dry, and despite the lack of the usual white sauce that usually dresses fish tacos, the taro tortilla, which tasted, sadly, like a plain flour tortilla, was soaked by the time I was near the end of the taco, and all this "juice" came out. It might have been partly the sauce and/or grease used to cook the fish.
As for flavor, the fish had a nice Cajun blend of spices, but the fact that it was overcooked kind of ruined it for me. The fish tacos here just can't compare to ones you'd get at California Fish Grill, a chain in (where else?) Cali. The accompanying fries were surprisingly good, though. Crispy, like they should be but often are not.
My bf got a chunky monkey, which is an ice cream shake or smoothie, with chocolate and peanut butter sauce on the sides of the glass. He thought it was bland and didn't have enough flavor, but I thought it was fine. Too much peanut butter can stick to your throat for a really uncomfortable feeling. If you've ever had the PB ice cream at Cold Stone, you'll know what I mean.
3 stars. If we had gotten better food on the second visit, I would've given it 4 stars.
This is purely a review for the bar - since I can't remember the time I actually ate here (two years ago). The bartenders were super nice and gave good advice on what to do with the rest of our evening. Our bartender also whipped up something for my friend under her vague instructions for "something fruity" that was very delicious. I can't remember what it was.
As for my drink, the Hawaiian Iced Tea that I had could have been stronger. That being said, I liked it very much :). And pineapple upside down shots were tasty like candy. The prices are pretty decent here, for around 6-8 dollars a drink.
Greeted by live music and a corner table, overlooking the ocean view across Kalakaua, this place was fantastic. I ditched my usual miller lite for a delicious martini and it was strong enough to keep me satiated over the few hrs it took for me to catch up w/my new LA friend.
We split the kalua pork quesadilla that was prepared with what we guessed was terriyaki. Great twist on a standard mexican dish. Also had the poke which was perfectly coated with soy sauce that didn't overpower the freshness of the raw ahi. Excellent.
Great drinks + food + service = repeat customer.
Tikis is all that and a pile of Mochiko Chicken!!! The only (I think) local owned business on kalakaua that offers a view of the sunset from their bar (lounge) patio!! 12 beers on tap, great grinds, an energetic friendly atmosphere (in the evenings) to socialize and meet people. Friendly, happy to be there staff. Live Music, funny bartenders... I can go on.
We only came here for drinks. The view of Waikiki beach is lovely. They made us a lovely virgin strawberry daquiri even though it wasn't on the menu. Their pina colada was only okay--made from a mix and a bit too sweet, and they wouldn't make me one on the rocks like I wanted. Boo.
Liked the banana butter w/taro rolls served to us. Hub E. got the braised short ribs which he liked, but my misoyaki butter fish was not so good. It was extremely salty, not so fresh fish, bok choy that was served with it had yellow leaves!
I expected this place to be a huge tourist trap, but it wasn't. The portions were large and everything had wonderful flavor. I recommend the mashed potatoes. The deserts were great and the view of the ocean at sunset make this a sure bet. Could have been 5 stars, but the staff was not knowledgeable about the food preparation.
Fabulous view! There are two different menu, one for the formal dinner and one for bar and happy hour. We used the latter one. Sat outside and enjoyed the ocean view seating. Food was good, drinks were great. Loved the desert and enjoyed the service. Price was very good for the quality of everything. You can enjoy the live band while enjoying your food and drinks.
The server named "Mike" rocks, he was bring drinks before we finished our last ones
Prices seemed fair for location
So after a stroll on the beach, and after much whining about how I wanted a drink my husband decided we needed to find a bar. The only place that appeared to be open from the street was this place.
They were busy. There was a live band performing. Apparently you seat yourself, there was no 'hostess/host' at the entrance so we found a table near the balcony thingy. After a few minutes our server came; I wonder if this was the same server as another yelper mentioned, at times she was 'running around' like a chicken without its head. She was nice enough as she checked on us periodically.
I wished I had known the drinks do suck here. I'm not a beer drinker so obviously I get the 'girly, cheesey' mixed drinks at these kinds of places. Mind you, I feel the effects of a mixed drink after ONE drink; last night I had THREE and a beer; and I was not feeling anything at all. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I totally agree with other reviewers, the mixed drinks are totally weak, well what I drank that is(Blue Bikini, Sex on the Beach, and a Kalakoa Sunset). Oh, and on a last note our bill came out to $53-something not including tip.
Met here for a "hangout" the Tuesday before our wedding and reaped the benefits of Tiki Taco Tuesdays. The $2 tacos were ok but the free beer when you walk in the door was a major plus. With a group of about 30, we easily took over 4-5 tables and our server was friendly and attentive. The sunset was stunning from the balcony, the crispy coconut shrimp and nachos were delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the live reggae music.
My wife and I went to Hawaii back in may of 2008 and I finally decided to write a review of this place. We were staying at a different hotel than this place is located but we came here for lunch one day and for brunch the morning we flew out. We loved the buffet, it was so awesome, there was something for everyone there. The Mahi Mahi was soooo good, it made my mouth water, even though I was full I still had to get another. The selection of food was so awesome, I had probably the best meal ever. My wife loved the vast selection of food too. And eating the So many desserts, so many breakfast items, This place was pure heaven for an hour out of one day in my life. :)
If you go to Hawaii you must stop here for some yummy yummy yummies. Great service too. I really didn't pay attention, I was too busy munching, I never had an empty glass though. :)
This was the first place I visited on this trip to Hawaii and it set the tone for the entire trip.
I was there with a bandmate and at the last minute we asked Tiki's if we could play there. Michael answered our email and allowed us to play and was incredibly kind and courteous towards us as was the rest of the staff. Every single staff member was kind and helpful above and beyond any expectations.
They have a happy hour daily from 2pm-5pm where beers were $2.50 and their Tuna poke was incredible. I'll go back to Tiki's for sure.
Loved the atmosphere of this restaurant with the friendly faces and awesome live band. The food is great; they are known for their nachos.
This place is packed so make sure you reserve a spot early! With a packed restaurant, it comes with mediocre service--although friendly--and sometimes forgotten orders. Their passable service makes up in other areas.
Tikis Sucks!

Such a fun place, and everyone from the entertainment, waitstaff, manager to hostess are super nice! We sat in the bar section, and can't complain one bit about anything we ordered. Fish & Chips, Poke and Ribs were great! Drinks were stiff and good - I think that's just a Waikiki thing (cause that was at every bar and restaurant we went to). Loved the outdoor seating and entertainment was great too!
I was here multiple times during my week's stay in November 2008. The dinner I had was fantastic - lobster pasta. Fair price, perfectly prepared pasta, ice-cold beer and a good selection of wine.
Great, friendly service, promptness of food coming out of the kitchen, always live music, prices are a value compared to most other places on Waikiki Beach.
Cheerful, lively atmosphere with the lit tikis around the perimeter (hence the name) and a wonderful 2nd story view of Waikiki Beach and the sunset. It is at the end of Waikiki so it is slightly less bustling than the hotel restaurants on the beach side of the street.
This place became home away from home for me. You have to try the Poke!
Went here for a drink after the Honolulu Zoo Summer Concert with John Cruz. We basically walked on over and up the stairs to Tiki's, washed our hands and sat down in the bar area. There was live music going on which I wasn't familiar with, but enjoyable. We quickly got the menus and ordered the $2 Bud Light draft special. Wifey decided she didn't want anything off the menu so got the same drink. As we were about 1/2 way down the pint glasses, the waiter came back to see if we wanted more, but we declined. He was running all over the place and you could tell every table he went to, they were waiting for him. He never came back to our table, but I easily flagged him down and when we asked for the check, it was pretty quick.
I've heard the food was less than nothing special, but I can't comment on that as I didn't eat it. Any of the food/drinks seemed to be expensive if it wasn't on special. But it's more for the atmosphere. I know I'm local, but it's nice to get out where it's crowded and touristy and have a great view of the sunset and hear live music. I'd come back for drinks.
This was the first place we went to after arriving at our hotel. It's built into the Aston Waikiki right off the pool area. Nice Hawaiian vibe. Good view of the beach as long as you don't ger seated behind one of the trees...
Ordered a Mai Tai right out of the gate. It was all right, little light on the booze, and more syrup than not.
The fish tacos were very good. Hit the spot after flying on United Airlines WITH NO FOOD SERVICES for 5 1/2 hrs.
It's a nice spot to carb out for sure!
BUT it's VERY loud at night, so make sure that's your thing if you go after sunset!!
Although the place holds a spectacular view, the food was far from memorable.
I had the special of the day: Sea bass with melons. Having experienced delicious fish back home not too long ago, i was stoked by the mere thought of having a $26.00 plate of Seabass do what that $18.00 Black Cod had done-scream, shout, murmur, atrial fibrillation (in that order, repeatedly!). NAY! The fish was plopped on top of a scoop of rice and served with a "wine sauce" and melons. The texture of the fish was chewy and soft rather than flaky and butter-smooth, and the whole idea of the dish was all wrong; nothing went well. My friend absolutely loved his scallop dish and one of the girls looked pleased with the Miso glazed Salmon. I do give plus stars for the AMAZING bread, blueberry-like with a pineapple butter. Best free bread I've ever had!
Lastly, it was my friends birthday, and when the waiter was told, he just said "happy birthday, brah". No cake or song? The service, ambiance and food combined didn't make for a notable experience. I should have just had the spam musubi downstairs, darn it.
This place is lively but for the more mellow/older crowd. There was a live band that played that night and it engaged the restaurant more. I ordered the fish and chips entree and the fish was pretty fresh and not bad with a squeeze of lemon. The mixed drinks are very weak. I had a Hawaiian Iced Tea...just like a Long Island Iced Tea with a coconut kick. They should be selling those as smoothies rather than alcoholic drinks! (weak)
Tiki's has a nice outdoor deck at a prime location (right across from the beach) and a great happy hour if you are lucky enough to not be stuck at work in the afternoon. I've also always had great service there. However, Tiki's only gets three stars from me because the food isn't great and overpriced for what you get. For example, the Kalua pig nachos are $14, but they use ballpark cheese (not real cheese) and the whole top half of the nachos is a big soggy layer. Kinda gross. Go to Tiki's, but just have some drinks and enjoy the nice service and view.
My fiance and I really enjoyed the food & ambiance here. He ordered the kona lobster mac n cheese while I got the mac nut mahi mahi. We were both pleased!
If you sit outside you get to enjoy your meal and watch the sunset and ocean.
Call me a tourist, but Tiki's was awesome! The restuarant was right next to our hotel, and I just couldn't resist an open-air patio right around sunset on our first night in town.
First of all, I was very impressed by the exclusively poolside beer service of local Kona brews on tap. It was more than reasonable at $4 a cup, but unfortunately I was forced to heed a warning from the friendly bartender: "No double-fisting in Hawaii." House rules. I can respect that.
We were promptly seated directly in front of a small bamboo hut where an island music/reggae (for lack of better terms) was taking the stage. Service was great as I immediately settled in, becoming progressivley more inebriated, thoroughly feeling the band as they rock out to anything Sublime. Perfect. The appetizers were of a standard fare with a slight Hawaiian twist: spicy tuna poke, chicken wings, and Kahlua pig nachos. While slightly above average as a whole, I did enjoy the tuna poke with beer which was a first for me. Top it off with a fully stocked bar with plenty of Jager, and what more could I ask for?
The only thing that turned me off about Tiki's was the fact that they did last call at midnight and were ready to close a half hour later. In retrospect, this made sense considering it was a Tuesday night. Alas, all good things must come to and end. A great kick-off spot for a memorable vacation, I would definitely go back.
We had a Lava Drink it was good my theory is it had pina colada mix and strawberry margarita mix. We also ordered a side of Chicken tenders they were very good. our server wasnt very nice would go back for a drink but thats it.
Loved this place so much we both bought shirts to take home! Every time I go to Oahu this is the first place we each at because of the awesome atmosphere and amazing view of Waikiki Beach. Our last visit (our honeymoon:) we stayed at the Aston Waikiki Beach, the hotel that Tiki's is located in. This meant we spent almost every night at Tikis for ateast a drink in their outdoor bar. The Greg Brady Wipeout is one of the tastiest tropical drinks I have ever had. We had dinner their twice, both times so delicious (lobser mac n cheese, need I say more). Stop by for atleast a drink and apps, its alot of fun!
I'll give it a 3 because we had a good experience there despite the mediocre food. The manpanion and I felt obligated to try this place once since it was conveniently located inside our hotel. There was a little bit of a wait, so we went to the bar first, where we were promptly served fruity lady-tourist drinks by a friendly bartender.
I noticed that sometimes this place got a little loud with reggae music, karaoke (I think), and maybe some comedy night. Fortunately, the festivities hadn't started up yet so we could hear each other.
The wait wasn't long. Our server was really friendly and informative, but we thought it was weird that they were already out of something we tried to order. I ordered a small caesar to start and the manowar got tomato soup. The salad was like something I'd make at home on a lazy day - bottled dressing with no bite, chopped up lettuce, and boxed croutons. Scratch that, I'd use better ingredients. Bleh. His soup was even worse; it tasted like it came straight from the Campbell's can.
Fortunately, the entrees were much better. My mahimahi was perfectly cooked and tasted great. His fish was "pretty good", but he said that mine was better. All throughout, our server checked up on us, brought us bread, and was very accommodating.
When we got the bill, we noticed that my entree wasn't added to it. We decided we should mention it, and our server said, "Well, it's our mistake, so it's okay." Whoo hoo, because did I mention the menu is overpriced? Yeah, it is. So we gave her a fat tip and summed up the experience as Worth It.
Waiter took 15-20 minutes to get to our table after we were seated...another 15 to get us the drinks we ordered. About 45 minutes for our entrees...I ordered a special for that night...a whole opakapaka, which was brought to my table UNSCALED. I brought this to the attention of my waiter, who told me that "Yeah, thats how our chef prepares it...some people don't mind it..." WTF! I told him I couldn't eat it and asked him to send it back to the kitchen...he asked me if I wanted to order something else, and then told me.."my boss might be pretty pissed off that you're sending this back, so I can't guarantee that we can take it off the check." WHHAAAAAAT!
First of all, I don't need to hear about your pissed off boss, that sounds like a personal problem to me, and 2. I AM NOT PAYING FOR THIS FISH.
They ended up taking it off, and I ordered the Kalua Pig Quesadillas instead cause I figured its pretty hard to screw that up.
Needless to say I will never be going back again.
A pretty touristy place, but they have great drinks and great service. They're located inside the Aston Waikiki and they close about 2am; one of the last places along the beach to stay open late. This is place you wind up in as a last resort... not bad, but there are definitely better bars in the area.
On the second floor, part outdoor bar (noisy and partying), part indoor restaurant
Delicious pupu appetizers e.g., calamari steak, coconut shrimp, quesadillas
Some entrees were good, others okay
Hawaiian sampler entrée
Salmon okay
Lamb chops good
Nice wines at a reasonable price
Good desserts
Service is friendly, but sometimes seems uncoordinated
The food tasted old
The burger and fries I had was worth 3 stars, but the beautiful Hawaiian sunset and music was 5 stars. That would make my rating an average of 4 stars, which is what I gave it.
Food is definitely overpriced, heck, the whole menu including drinks is, but that's not what you are really paying for.
This was my second visit. My first visit was marred by a rude waitress who obviously didn't think local people can afford to go out or deserve to to be in Waikiki. She gave me one glass of water the entire time, never asked how we were doing, clearly serviced the other tables in our section better. I gave her a dollar tip on the entire bill. I had to even the score.
Eh...so so. Its a really nice place in that its convenient and it opens late. Live performances and relaxing ambiance.
Food wasnt memorable. Good back up place if you run outta things to do.
Ultra touristy, but one of my fave places in Waikiki because of the great view and breeze up on the second floor location of this restaurant. They also have a great kalua pork nachos loaded with pork, cheese, and guac. There's usually live music every night and I haven't heard a bad act yet. Having a beer while staring out at the ocean while live ukele is playing in the background is one of the ways I enjoy Hawaii and this place is the best for it.
Tikis was a cool spot to watch the sunset and listen to open mike night. It was like American Idol, the bad ones, for much of the night. Disclaimer: so the lady tells me, I dont watch American Idol!!!! I also loved the karaoke pros who kept coming up to show off. Love it.
Food was Eghhhh. Fried frozen chicken tender and fires and bottled salad dressing. Nuff said.
Beer was cold and waitress very friendly. Its a tourist spot so people watching is A+. Loved the cool guys in shower sandals and socks. Hilarious!!
This was our first real meal in Honolulu that we found just because we were hungry and did not want to keep walking. The staff was very friendly and the food was great. We had the Hawaiian Special which was very tasty and let us try two different types of pork, purple sweet potatoes, Poi, sashimi, a smoked salmon salsa, and a little dessert. It was a huge meal. We then ordered the Mac nut ice cream cookie sandwich which was huge! The view was also great.
We came back the next night for the Mac nut ice cream cookie sandwich and drinks and were not as impressed with the service. It seemed like the bar was understaffed but the restaurant was well worth it. We will go back next time for sure.
On Friday night it was crowded and the service was poor. It seemed like they wre understaffed. Our server was running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. The drinks are weak and heavy on the syrup. I don't recommend it.
Ok...I loved Tiki Grill until they got rid of the lobster stuffed fish, but supposedly I was the only person who liked it. If they still had that entrée I would have given this restaurant 5 stars for that dish alone. If anyone knows how to recreate it I will marry you and be your sex slave for life. It was truly that amazing.
Tiki Grill is still good. The coconut shrimp appetizer is amazing. The Caesar salad is good. The taro rolls and banana butter is just brilliant. I love the salmon with taro mashed potatoes, which are insanely delicious. That is my new favorite entrée.
The place is very expensive, but it's the strip and tourist central.
Cost: $53
There is live music. A fun bar with cool bartenders (Senior Benny Rocks).
Ask for a seat on the balcony when you make your reservation.
