Having been to many Indian restaurants in the area, I have to put this among my favorites - 4.5 stars. I find the food always to be quite satisfying and never bland. I like it even better than ::gasp!:: Udupi Palace next door, which would get 4 stars from me. They are both somewhat pricey, don't know why most Indian places are that way, but for the occasional splurge this is my choice in the DC area.

A note about the area, it's really not "that" bad. It's run-down, that's true, and you do have to watch for killer potholes. It's not pretty, but I've never once felt unsafe there.

Very mediocre lunch buffet. And since Lunch buffet is the only way to eat Indian food without experiencing grand larceny, I won't be back. Woodlands is much better.

Any casually dressed person will be treated like a rajah with impeccable service, a sumptuous buffet and simply the best Indian food you will ever eat! The service in this unpretentious restaurant is world class. The food manages to be both authentic and creative.  Amazingly enough it is also very inexpensive.  Delicious vegetable dishes, amazing goat curry, awesome manchurian inspired chicken kofta meatballs, chili chicken and don't forget to save room for a pink Falooda drink for desert! The weekend buffet is the best but you will always be well fed and cared for at Tiffin.

Great Halal lamb kabobs, spinach and garlic naan. Addictive alu paratha, which is freshly fried bread stuffed with spiced mashed potatoes. Good lunch buffet. Their chai tea seems overly bitter to me - I don't use two packets of sugar in anyone else's cup of tea.

As logic goes, you should never judge a book by its cover. The same can be said for this fine establishment, which proves you should never judge a restaurant by its surroundings. Yes it might be located in Langley Park, not a haven for fine dining; however its located in a predominantly Indian stretch of strip malls, providing added culture to this fine dining experience.

I have only managed to come here twice for dinner service. The first time I had their lamb vindaloo and some of their naan, which hot off the tandoor is pure fluffy, barely oily heaven. I would also suggest getting the Mango Lassi, if you have a hot dish it will go with it as perfectly as Thai iced coffee goes with duck with chili & basil. Even if you do not have extremely spicy food, their baked breads and Mango lassi are worth trying. The choice for vindaloo was inspired by a certian Sopranos episode, and subsequently I had one of the hottest, and tastiest experiences in my dining life. The second time I visited I had the Chicken Makhani, which was buttery-tomato heaven. Both times I have had exceptional service, whether you are a native of New Delhi or not, you get good service and exceptionally quick refills of water throughout.

I have also visited handful of Saturday mornings following long Friday nights with my friends, I can attest to quick refills of the water and never ending supplies of food to the buffet table. However, the quality of the tandoori chicken, naan and spicy chickpea masala are all better during sit down service. I put this down to the fact that the food is kept warm by the buffet table, but it is not as piping hot fresh as it is when it comes from the kitchen straight to the table. Still, for the price and the quality, it tops anything else I've tried, plus it was only a 5 minute drive to their from College Park.

If you eat meat, this buffet is a much better deal (for weekdays $10 = $1 more) than the all-veg spreads at Udipi or Woodlands.  Decent chicken tikka in big hunks, lots of very fresh naan, a really good goat curry, mmm, and good condiments!

Clean, well-lit interior.  Worth the drive!

After being away for so many years I finally came back here for the lunch buffet with co-workers.  The staff was pretty accommodating for the large group that attended and were attentive as always.  Space was clean and buffet table was well-stocked and clean.  I especially liked the chicken/goat curry and the chicken tikka masala.  Naan was light, crispy with the right amount of butteriness and the rice pudding was actually refreshingly light after a hearty lunch buffet.  Some people think this place has watered-down American spiceless flavor, but for someone who doesn't have the Indian friend hookup and has a weak spice tolerance this place works for me.

Weekend buffet,
Lingering Hot spicy chicken curry, spicer than most other buffets.
Butchering skills need work, the chicken in the curry dish was full of pieces with tendons. 1st time had a yummy chicken fritter.

Smallest wings ever seen in wing dish, but large plum drumstick in the tandori chicken,  Looks funny together on the plate,
Like the sweet shredded carrot desert, did not try the fruit salad in custard. Nan was hot and krispy.
Butchering like the Indian buffett in White Oak.
"Smallest plate" for a buffet award, largest is Mehek.

I like to EITHER eat with fingers or fork & spoon, Dont like to fork with messy fingers, really must eat tandori and tiny wings with fingers.

When you can't have breakfast at Tiffany's, have lunch or dinner at Tiffin's!

(Cheesy, I know.)

I just moved to the area and have been busy trying local eateries. I had a craving for Indian food*, but my beloved Saravana Palace is 30 miles away. I was hungry, but not hungry enough to drive all the way to Virginia.

Thanks to Yelp, I found this delightfully charming Indian restaurant situated in a strip mall in Takoma Park. I got lost trying to find it along the busy intersection. The outside of Tiffin's looks like a gourmet Italian eatery, definitely posh for the neighborhood.

As we entered, I admired the wicker-like chairs, table settings, floral wall scones, tiled flooring and the overall space. The dining room almost looked like an outdoor patio sans flora. I assume the large space makes it easier to access the buffet table, but adding trees or divides would make the dining room much more intimidate.

We were seated against the wall, and were given complimentary papadams (lentil crackers) along with three condiments: cilantro (mildly spicy), tamarind (sweet), and tomato (deep spicy) chutneys. In no time at all, all were left in the basket were crumbs. They're insanely addictive.

We ordered the Baigan Bharta (roasted eggplant in herbs and spices) and Shari Paneer (paneer in cream sauce) and Tandoori Roti. The Baigan was deliciously flavorful and spicy (medium, like I requested). The Shari was also heavenly, with its thick and rich curry sauce. That dish is best finished off with the roti. We were given a good amount of saffron-infused basmati rice.

Curtis ordered the Mango milkshake. It's a nice alternative to Mango Lassi, if you're not a fan of yogurt.

The best part about Tiffin was the service! The restaurant was staffed well and quite efficient, so we didn't need to flag down a server for water refills, and so forth. Each staff member was very friendly, and it seems like everyone works as a team (from waiters to runners to the bussers). From the moment we were greeted when we walked in, my expectations of service was more than exceeded.

I highly recommend Tiffin. (You can refer to the other 5 star Yelp reviews if you must!) It's a step up from most other Indian restaurants, but the food and service are first rate! I will definitely be returning.

* - I ALWAYS have a craving for Indian!

And I said what about "Breakfast at Tiffin?"
She said, "I think they're not open till 12"
And as I recall, I think, we both love lunch buffets
And I said, "Well, that's why I have a gut"

It's true - there were times when I wanted to have Tiffin at 10am and the lunch buffet contributed quite a bit to my gut. In fact, I like to think that it was my prowess at buffets that won my wife over in college (that or I'm lucky she wasn't disgusted). Today, however, Tiffin has changed and I'm just not a fan anymore.

You'll say the world has come between us
Our lives have come between us
But I know you just don't have chicken tikka masala

Yeah, that's right. It's not the world or our lives Tiffin, it's the fact that you no longer have chicken tikka masala on the buffet menu, which to me is negligent along the lines of not putting the toilet seat down, forgetting to zip after you pee, driving off after leaving your drink on top of the car, and forgetting that you have a child.

Food - Lunch buffet is $9.95 M-F and $11.95 Sat/Sun, which is $1 more than Udupi Palace just up 193, which is under the same management. The typical spread is: aloo bonda (kinda like a samosa), rice (mostly white basmati w/ little flecks of yellow), yellow dal, veggies (tasty!), ghana masala (chick peas), aloo w/ mushroom and squash (also tasty), chicken curry (chicken is very tender and the curry is flavorful), goat curry (not a fan), tandoori chicken (excellent), and naan (also excellent). While the spread is good, it sort of feels like when Carter left ER or when Tom Brady got hurt - the rest of the cast is good but it's just not the same. I asked the owner if they ever have chicken tikka masala and he informed me that they usually don't and it's b/c the sauce is hard to make, which I interpreted as Hindi for too expensive. Finally, their tamarind chutney was a little thick and had a different flavor than what I'm used to.

Location - Be careful driving around here as the hombres run across the street like it was the Texas border. The last time I went, there was a man jaywalking in a particularly dangerous area with an infant.. You can make a left at the Pollo Campero to get to Tiffin or you have to go past it and make a U-turn. The interior is pretty nice but a big buffet no-no: only 1 toilet in the men's bathroom & the gaps make it a "Peeka-boo! I see you" toilet. And on Friday's, this place gets PACKED for lunch, so get there early.

Service - Attentive, friendly, and your water is always filled. Good job!

For $9.95, I expect a lot, esp. when India Gate in Laurel is $7.95 AND has chicken tikka masala. If you're in the CP area and want a lunch buffet, Gah Rahm, and Udupi Palace are excellent choices. If you want Indian food w/ meat, Tiffin is a solid option.

Living in rather exclusive Montgomery Village, I am not crazy about driving thru somewhat bouwarzie Langley Park area and traffic but my wife and I definately think it's worth it for the goat curry, soft and tender nan, warm and juicy gholab janum, etc. that is served during the weekend lunch buffets.   The prices are resonably moderate, the staff is polite and alert.  The parking is a little bit of challenge but we have always found a spot (our luxary car has not been broken in even though the area appears to be a bit "in the ghettooooo".

This is our family favorite.

Anytime people come to visit us we take them to Tiffin for dinner. We have eaten there for the past two Thanksgiving dinners. It is that good.

The service is outstanding. The staff is friendly, attentive and very, very polished. The food comes out quickly and the breads are always fresh.

They have a cool glass enclosure that lets you watch the cook make some of the Indian breads. The restaurant is super clean and the prices are reasonable. Even if you are not a big fan of Indian food, you will be able to find stuff here that is good.

I usually get the Chicken Vindaloo and the Chicken Tikka Masala.

I live kind of close to Tiffin so I go there a good amount - I've probably been at least 10 times.  Tiffin has really good Indian food, a pleasant and clean atmosphere, and great service.

Things to try...mango lassi and anything from the tandoor oven.  All dishes, however, are quite good.  I also have been to the lunch buffet, which is outstanding and a great deal, although there is a bigger lunch buffet with more selection at the near-by Udupi palace.  I think my favorite dish is the Chicken Makhni - yum!  I also really like the lamb, especially the Lamb Rogan Josh.

The lunch buffet is amaaaaazing. Every time I go here I eat until I literally cannot walk. It's a little pricey ($9 for the lunch buffet), but definitely worth it. I don't know what it's called, but there's some sort of dessert with carrots in it that is awesome. Sometimes the naan tastes a little old, but you can usually just wait around until they bring a new batch out.

I eat here all the time, at least once a month for a few years. The staff is awesome and they always remember us. Two people can share an entree with rice and naan or order two and there will always be leftovers for the next day. We usually get out of there spending in between 15-30 dollars for two people depending on how hungry we are and for how amazing the food is that is super cheap. It's a good restaurant to bring your friends to that have never had any type of indian food before. It's my easy fall back when I just don't feel like cooking and its replaced both the pizza man and the chinese delivery guy for me.

Tiffin has pretty good food.  My friends and I go here every few months, usually for lunch.

Beware though, service can be fairly slow at times.  I think the wait staff tends to get a little complacent.  Also, this place definitely ain't in the best of areas.  My buddy got his truck stolen as we ate in broad daylight!  He parked right in front of the restaurant and saw them drive off as he was walking back from the restroom.

We went to Tiffin after many visits to Udupi, and were expecting the same quality, just with meat and nicer decor. Tiffin, though, was completely empty, the service was slow and cold, and the food was bland and spiceless. They brought out these weird ersatz-tortilla chips with some sort of salsa type thing to begin with, the entrees were almost room temperature when we finally got them, and they had less flavor than those pouch Indian dishes. We'll definitely be sticking with Udupi.

Yo!  Man this place is great.  I love Indian Food.  We never had food like this in Halifax but now that I am a DC Resident.  I eat it all of the time.  This is a great Buffet with a good combination of meat and veggie dishes.  The place was also full of real Indian People which tells you that the natives like it so it must be good.  If I were you reading this I would go there.  One thing to watch out for is that it is in a bad area.  Langley Park is a MESS.

My trip to Tiffin was a real disappointment. I had read many glowing reviews, both here and on Chowhounds, but the actual meals my date and I received made me wonder if everyone else is reviewing a different place entirely. It may be that the reviewers here don't have much experience with Indian food, or perhaps I just caught Tiffin on a really bad night. Regardless, it was a huge letdown. The appetizers we're incredibly dry and tasteless, and the malai kofta tasted nothing like it should. The chicken dishes were OK, but both were more bland than they should have been. The garlic naan was the only standout -- if that's all you're eating, it would be worth the trip. The decor also leaves a lot to be desired. Picture a slighly dressed-up college cafeteria and you're not far off.

The lunch buffet may be better, but I would not return for dinner. You can definitely find much better North Indian food in the area for the same price or less.

this is one of the areas best indian food restaurants. it is not in the best location and it is easy to pass it by, but it is a must if you enjoy good indian food.

the food was great, they have a good amount of vegetarian dishes. i am also a big fan of samosa's. theirs was pretty good, a little bit more spice then most places use. the prices are reasonable, about what you will find at most indian restaurants, the entrees where between 10 -12 dollars. the also have a very good selection of beer and wine, more then most indian restaurants have. they also offer a buffet, i think that that is a lunch thing. they where not offering it when we were there.

the atmosphere is very nice, kinda contemporary with indian antiques. i guess thats how to describe it.  and for service, they where great, on top of everything and very nice. so i recommends this place to anyone who enjoys a good indian meal.

I am VERY snobby when it comes to Indian food (because I am Indian food and get it all the time), but this place is A+. It is the BEST place I have had Indian food in the States. Not only that, but the buffet is excellent. Usually, Indian restaurants put crap in their buffets because they have to mass produce it, but not here. The food is fantastic. No complaints whatsoever. Plus, it's cheap.
