Hadn't been here in years, but attended an event there yesterday which happened to start at noon, so a bit of lunch was in order.

We didn't want to fill up as I was making a nice dinner that night, so we decided to split a burger & fries after seeing the size of the plate at the table next to us.

The Game Burger for the day was Venison - oooh, I haven't had venison in so long....hoping that they didn't overcook it.  They didn't.  It was absolutely perfectly done and I don't know what/how they do their fries, but they were DEELISH!   I think we're going to have to go back as there were a number of things that caught my eye - Pesto Garlic Fries....OMG, how could that be bad??

The only reason this place gets 3 stars and not 1 or 2 is the food is consistently excellent. I love the brisket sandwich, and as a native southerner, I can attest to how difficult it is to find good brisket ANYWHERE in California.

What irks me about this place is that the service seems to have gone downhill since the first time my roommate brought me here. I invited a friend to lunch with me Saturday afternoon (1/21/12). I arrived first and asked for a tea while I was waiting. About 5 minutes later, just before my friend arrived, I finally got my tea.

My friend had a meeting, so we only had about an hour to an hour and a half to eat. Our server was slow in checking on us, often letting our iced teas go completely empty before coming to ask if we were OK.

And something that really bothers me as a former server? He didn't write anything down when we ordered. I have no problem with that when the server memorizes everything correctly and the food comes out right. Our server asked my friend what he ordered 4 separate times, and I could tell my friend was getting really annoyed repeating himself.

It also took forever to get the check. Our server brought me a box for the to-go food, and we waited a good ten minutes for him to come back with the check.

I don't know what's going on with your staff, Tied House. If they're this slow on days where it's not really busy, I hate to think what it's like during Happy Hour or on game days.

My brother and I went here to relax and enjoy the Sharks game. The place is packed, but the service was still plenty quick and friendly. The only reason why I'm giving a four star rating actually is because we were sat next to the door and couldn't be moved (if we wanted) for another 35 min.

I like that they have 50 cent half pint beers for the first intermission of the game, the food was pretty good (cheese tortellii with chicken and chicken tortilla soup), the vodka tonic came out pretty quickly and they refilled our glasses with water very promptly.

I def. recommend this place to those looking to have a casual, friendly, fun time.

    Dear Tied House,
Thank you for satisfying my craving for a hamburger and extra pickles.  "This is a TASTY burger!" repeated my husband (a la "Pulp Fiction"), as he kept stealing bites of my Top Sirloin Burger with American cheese.  I'm sure we will be back for more burgers, beer, and big screen sporting events.

The service was great at the Tide House. We were checked on often and truly enjoyed our meal here. I loved the 'you pick two' option and got WAY more than enough food than a person should have. I got the Spinach and Walnut Salad and half a chicken sandwich and it was delicious and as I said before, so much food.

We also got the garlic fries and they were delicious and a great way to start off our dinner there. We tried many of the beers that were brewed in house and they were fantastic. I had the amber and it was night and light and didn't have much aftertaste, which I don't like.

Their prices were decent and service was good on a Wednesday night. Great experience and great, flavorful food.

My co-workers and I closed up shop early and walked here for a goodbye party.  For our group of 8, we were seated surprisingly fast (the place seemed busy enough).  We got our drinks pretty quick too, and let me just say, I'm now a HUGE fan of Pear Cider.  Ladies (or gents), if you like sweeter drinks, this stuff is delicious!

The appetizers were pretty good, my favorite being the blackened catfish and corn cake.  We all pounced on the sweet potato fries like cats on string.  Atmosphere was fun, but I was annoyed that all the TVs in my direct vision were the same channel, and the only other one was behind me (and it was far more interesting, but very uncomfortable for my neck).

Definitely a good place to just unwind and kick it with people!  I can't wait to try catering lunch to my work!

I've been to Tied House a handful of times now and just can't get into it - considering how much I love beer that just makes me sad.

I have yet to talk with a server or bartender who could go into detail about whatever beer they might be serving; both on tap and by the bottle. I haven't found anything they pour on tap to my liking but I do enjoy a few brews by the bottle namely Hermitage Ale of the IMP and the Menage a Singe.

The food is seriously lackluster and IMHO overpriced. If you just want some fried bar food it's acceptable but don't expect too much. On a positive note they can accommodate large groups and the beer garden in the back is a good place to chill.

It's worth checking out for sure but not my brewery of choice.

Came here to watch Monday Night Football with the girlfriend since they got some great deals here.

We ordered a variety of appetizers from the happy hour menu:
    1. Pesto Calamari
    2. Tied House Garlic Fries
    3. Classic Caesar Salad
    4. Jolly Rancher for my girlfriend

I was sick so I couldn't have any beverages for myself.  The food had large servings and they were all good.  I will definitely come back here for another happy hour session to try the rest of the menu.

In all, the service was great, but it did get busy towards kick off so make sure you get here early if you're planning on watching a game.

    Happy Yelping!

The Tied House was one of the first brewpubs to open in Northern California.  I'm a beer geek, and I've lived in Mtn View forever, so it shouldn't be any great surprise that I spent a lot of time there early in its history.

As beer options grew in the area, I found the Tied House's selections less compelling, and we found ourselves going less and less.

The other night, I was dying for a burger, and the Tied House was nearby, so we had our first dinner there in several years.  Many changes, some good, some not so much:

FOOD:  My burger was fine.  It wasn't  amazing, but it was good.   I think that they used to be better, but I was perfectly happy with it and wouldn't hesitate to go back for one next time I have a burger craving.  My wife's french dip looked pretty good, too, and my daughter was happy with her pasta dish.

SERVICE:  really, really horrible.  Our waiter just totally ignored our 10 year old when she tried to order a root beer.  We had to ask 3 times to get her water, though he brought ours on the first try. This is just not OK with me.  The woman who served our food was just snippy and rude-- I don't think I've ever been as rudely treated in a restaurant ever.   I flagged the manager, who said that she talked to both of them, and she discounted our bill more than she had to, so I'm willing to write that off as an anomaly for now.  If I got anything close to that bad of service again, I'd never go back, though

BEER:   The Tied House used to just have the obligatory Pale, Amber, Stout sort of line up, and none of them all that great.  Yawn.   They've totally revamped their line-up.   We both had an excellent IPA and tasted a few other good selections.  They were out of a few beers that sounded really interesting.  Frankly if I hadn't been so honked off about the miserably bad service I might have bought a bottle or two of the IPA to go.

I'm really glad that there is now a place in my town that brews and serves some respectable beers.  If the service at my next trip to the Tied House is decent, I'll probably become a more regular customer again.

Their service is unbelievably sloooooooooooow.  Do NOT go here if you're looking to get out under 1 hr.

Regardless of whether the place is full or not [usually it is], the wait for your drinks/ food is always really agonizing.  At least they have a ton of screens all around... which is okay when there's a sports game you're trying to catch.  The food isn't all that fantastic either.  I remember ordering their pesto garlic fries, and it came out lukewarm and sans garlic or pesto.  Very disappointing.

My company once held an event in their outside patio [more like nextdoor alleyway] and the service was slightly better.  Only slightly.  Not a great place to hold an event over 20+ people because the positioning got really awkward [think two rows of seats and a catwalk down the middle type of situation].  Definitely not a place I would make a beeline towards for happy hour/ drinks in general.

Have been here a few times and finally writing a review.  Tends to get very crowded during the dinner hours but that's expected of any place in downtown Mountain View.

Good beer selection and food can be a hit or miss.  Not a fan of their fish and chips but their Buffalo Tenderloins are pretty delicious and some of their salads are pretty tasty.  Happy Hour prices are pretty decent as well - $3.25 pints, $4.00 drink specials and certain appetizers are offered at half off.

Some seating is definitely better than other areas in the restaurant.  Service has been fairly good as well.

Not a bad place to be for Happy Hour or some pub food & good beer.

A-OK, Hip to Be Square, Vanilla, Pee Chee Folders, Corned Beef and Potatoes.  About a deuce, deuce and a half.  Tied House is one of those places that isn't bad, but it isn't really great either.

Pluses you ask?  Well the service is cordial, the food comes in large quantities, and there is a plethora of beer options to choose from.  I totally did just use the word plethora.  They also have .50 half pints during the first quarter of Sharks games, and also on certain days I've heard.  The above alone gives Tied House a great personality.

But sadly, when it comes down to taste, Tied House is a bit of a buttaface.  I've pretty much surveyed the entire menu but will recount the latest items I've had.  The Tri Tip sandwich: pretty dry and a little too much sweet with not enough hickory.  The wild game sausages: dry and pretty much a confirmation that all wild game tastes like chicken.  Either that or their meat supplier is totally giving them the Joan Collins special.  The hamburgers:  well they taste like a normal hamburger.  I really want to find something about the food that gives this place the jump to 4 stars.  But sadly, I haven't found it yet.

Overall, its a great place to hang with friends and just get the normal bar/restaurant atmosphere.  Just don't expect anything that tastes so good you want to smack your mama.  Oh Tied House, someday your food will get the Jenny Jones makeover and you will be the belle of the ball.

Went there for the game last weekend.  Have to say the place is so so.  The beer is good but the food is decent at beat. I got the seared Ahi and was a little disappointed mostly because it didn't taste fresh at all or was just low quality.  The way the place is arranged with the TVs doesn't make any sense whatsoever.  Invest a couple of bucks and get some new TVs and get some blinds so you don't have a glare on half the TVs.

All i can say is who the hell decided that throwing 4 pieces of chicken and  4 pieces of pasta along with tons of huge carrots and broccoli made pasta primavera? I honestly have had better at  Sbarros. My husband also had the most bland french dip we have ever tasted and honestly the only good thing I can think to say of this place is they look like a good place to watch a sharks game? good thing I 'm not into the sharks i guess.... If you are looking for a happy hour place to watch a game and don't  really care what the food tastes like than this is your place.

How have I not written about the Tied House yet?!

First of all, Thursday night is HALF PINT NIGHT from 10pm until they kick you out. Delicious beer brewed right on the spot for only a buck.. What more can you ask for?! I almost don't want to post this because it gives my friends and I's secret away... Haha.

Second, the food is always hot and fresh and REALLY tasty. Great appetizers for sitting and watching the game and great entrees for sitting down for dinner. And the prices are reasonable compared to other places in Downtown MV.

Lastly, every time I come here the customer service is fantastic. The servers are always very friendly and fast. Last time I came I had Jill who was new and she was a doll. I've never had a bad server here though, so I was not surprised.

I can't recommend this place enough!!

WARNING: AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE.  They have on their menu in big, bold letters that a pitcher costs $17.50, so we ordered pitchers of beer.  Turns out, a few of our pitchers of beer cost over $30--each!  But, they don't list this price on their menu.

When we called the manager and said that the menu is deceiving, he argued with us and stood firm on the price.

I hadn't been here in ages and really forgot all about it, since it's far enough away from castro it's easy to get sucked into one of the other places...but that being said, we stopped in for a beer and taste some half price appetizers and it was awesome! The place was packed, there were sports on the televisions, a situation which would seem chaotic yet the service was great! I tried some of the fried calamari and the portion was huge and it was very good.

Disclosure: I am a mug member so of course I love the TH!

They have great food, the location is really big and can accommodate large groups and doggies on the patio!  The service is really great, the staff does not have a lot of turnover so the people work well together and help each other out on busy nights.

They are really great during big games and well equipped to handle the crowds!

The only minus... is they don't offer a light beer that compares to a bud/coors light.  In my opinion their lightest beer is still pretty strong - but just order a glass of wine or nice vodka cocktail and you are set!

    Cheers!

After something like 23 years, the Tied House is many things to many people: their first drink, the local bar, a microbrewery pioneer, a place to try some strange meats, a community supporter, or just a mysterious fixture a couple blocks off Castro.  I've been coming here on and off since I was in college, and to me, this has become more-or-less the perfect place to catch a game.

Sure, there are plenty of sports bars out there.  Plenty of places that are showing the game ... whatever that game might be.  But the Tied House has a few things going for it which these other places lack: ample space, an interesting menu, and a wonderful atmosphere.  Somehow, they manage to provide a space where the bikers, the frat boys, mom, dad and the marketing managers ... and everyone in between ... can enjoy the game together without feeling out of place.  It's a place where folks can get really caught up in the game, but where I still feel comfortable taking friends from out of town ( or out of the country ) who might have no idea what the rules of baseball or American Football really are.  And besides.  It's right across the street from the Mountain View Police.  You can be pretty well assured that nothing is going to get out of hand.

Then there's the food.  Though it's nothing fancy, the burgers are great, the wild game items are very interesting, and the smoked meats and fish are pretty darn good.  The menu selection is broad enough that almost any appetite will find at least something appealing, and the kitchen competent enough that it's likely to be decent.  If I don't go in expecting more than bar food, it's certainly a step above the competition in many ways.

A lot of folks I know don't like the beer here.  But I hang out with a bunch of very picky beer snobs, and that's really an unfair assessment.  The reality of it is that the beer is pretty good - award winning, in fact - but the styles offered won't match all preferences.  It's decent, solid microbrew ... but just a little boring.

One thing that keeps us coming back is the First Firkin Fridays - the first Friday of nearly every month, they offer a beer on cask from their San Jose production brewery.  These beers are often more interesting than their normal tap offerings, and have generally been excellent, especially if you like the stronger, smoother taste of beer served this way.

Regarding service, I've never had a problem.  I will admit that in the bar, you sometimes need to be assertive to get served amongst the crowds.  I've also never come here in a big hurry, but almost always to enjoy a game or time spent with friends.  Almost without exception, the servers I've interacted with have been busy, but also friendly, informed about the menu, and enthusiastic.

The Tied House can't be everything to everyone, but it fills a niche and fills it well.  It's a place we keep coming back to, and a place we recommend without hesitation to our friends who are looking to catch a game.

I was visiting a Friend in the area. And had acquired a taste for some Micro Brew so I rolled the Weekend Whip cranking some Eagles to the Tied House I hadn't been there for a while.

I grabbed a seat at the Bar and ordered up a Passion Fruit Beer Brew . It was quit Tasty . The Bartender on Duty was a pretty Cool Dude and he was actually one of the Brewers from the San Jose Location, so he knew his beers quite well. I had an Amber Bock Next which I quite liked also .

I also ended up running into a fellow Yelper ,that  actually works there that was a pleasant Surprise.

I was getting a little Hungry so I ordered a Slab of BBQ Ribs and Garlic Fries. My food arrived 15 minutes later . The Ribs were quite Tender and it was a nice size Slab . The Garlic Fries where quite Yummy.

I ended up having quite a few more Beers I think the Passion Fruit was my Favorite.

Service was quite good . Would make a great Date Joint or a place to watch Sports as there are tons of TVs.

I rolled out of the Tied House Full and with my Thrist Quenched and a Sidekick for the Road a Win Win Situation.

The other day, I read a review of this place by one of my Yelp friends, and realized I hadn't been here in so long I had entirely forgotten about it, so I set out to refresh my memory.  I wish I hadn't.

Sitting at the bar on a lazy Sunday afternoon, one does not expect to be virtually ignored for the better part of 20 minutes. Likewise, when sitting in a brewpub, one does not expect the majority of the specialty beers to range from mediocre (Ironwood Brown) to off-putting (Amber Light).  So congratulations Tied House... For proving that my expectations of competence should not be automatically assumed!

The Stout and the wild game burger (buffalo) were actually pretty good, but considering the otherwise awful beer and painfully slow service at the bar and dining room, my experience was, quite frankly, a disaster.

I should have let the Tied House stay forgotten, and now resolve to forget it for good this time.

Wait what? This place is still around! I thought this place was long gone after the San Jose location closed.

There was no wait, most people were at the bar watching the football game. I loved the appetizers we got, which were the wings and nachos. Three of us ordered burgers and one ordered ribs. My boyfriend said the ribs were good, basically fell off the bone. I wasn't so happy with my burger, I swear I could have made homemade ones that tasted 10 times better. Next time I know not to get the burgers there.

Our waiter was nice, food came out with in reasonable time. I want to come back to try other appetizers and pasta next time!

This is one of my favorite pubs in bay area. I am their at least once or twice a month. My favorite beer is the "wheat beer". We some times order the sampler set where you get to try out all the beer brewed at Tide House.
The appetizers are also great. The food is reasonably priced. This place never gets too crowded even if they have Cal or Stanford game going on. Great place to unwind after work.

Apparently, they have $1 half pints on thursdays. Unfortunately, i went on a wednesday...such is my luck. Oh well, that's what I get for not properly researching. In any case, a couple of friends and I came in a few weeks ago for some grubbin and beerin. We started with the calamari, which was pretty tasty. I have yet to encounter a really BAD fried calamari so Tied House continues the trend.

For my main, I (after a long while of trying to decide from the many choices) decided on the house burger. Yeah, I know...but I was in a burger mood. The cool thing is, you can add on things like bacon and a fried egg! There are other topping options, but I just mentioned the ones I got. The burger was good, bacon made it better (obviously), but the egg was a bit of a misfire. Usually when one orders a fried egg on a burger, it's expected to be cooked over easy for the yolk to provide a built in sauce; mine came over hard. Still a tasty addition, but I would've preferred egg (yolk) on my face.

To drink, I went with the stout...which is my general preference. To be honest, on this night, the beer was pretty much just a burger-washer-downer. Not to say it wasn't good, because I'm sure it was, it just wasn't my main priority.

All of this combined with the attentive and accommodating (not to mention, super cute) Kelly as our server, I'd definitely come back. She was everything a server should be...friendly, courteous, accurate and patient (again, I needed some time to figure out what I wanted). Next time I go, I'll try some other menu items, pay more attention to the vast beer selection, and try not to pay so much attention to our server, which should be fine...unless we're seated in her section again.

Came here to celebrate my co-worker's going away party.....
Called in the same day to make reservations, and apparently, you need at least a day ahead to make one...for a big party. (oops...duh on my part, well 6 people wasn't too big of a party to me-lesson learned)

The hostess was really nice and approchable and she assured us it won't be too long for us to get a table. So we chilled by the bar for a bit.

I got the Cascade Amber Beer and thought it was really good. And for the price and the glass...Not bad at all...

    For food:

*Cajun Jambalaya: I've never seen a jambalaya so expensive. Like seriously, it was one of the priciest one on the menu. I mean, it is tasty but nothing extra-ordinary. The serving wasn't that huge either. I do like the fact that there was overload of ingredients..but the rice texture. it's kind of undercooked and felt weird in my mouth.

*Seared Ahi Tuna: my co-worker's girlfriend got this, and same thing, she didnt like the texture of the rice. The presentation of this dish was amazing, and the tuna cuts were worth it for the price.

*Pasta Primavera: my co-worker (a picky eater) got this, and said it was a bit bland. She had to ask for extra marinara to spike up the taste.

*Top Sirloin Burger w/ Fries: Looked really huge, but my co-worker did enjoy it. The fries were good!

*Southwest Double Burger: my boss ordered it. And omg. i wanted to steal the bacon. He says it was pretty good and the meat was juicy and tasty.

We got two free desserts. Well one came with the meal and one was just an extra because we were all joking around with our server.

So that was excellent to me.

*Enrique: funniest server of all. I have a habit of asking servers' names so i can mention them on yelp. I asked for his name and he had a long pause "Enrique.... my name on Fridays"... and he looked at me sternly. Funny man. Good job.

I have yet to come back to try more of their beer selection. (didn't wanna get sh*tfaced in front of my boss, ya know)

Like a toned-down version of YardHouse or BJ's. Tucked away in a residential area, the brewery is filled with big comfy booths and flat screens everywhere.

After a good run around the park I decided to "carb-out" and get the tortellini and chicken pasta dish- came with a choice of three sauces: marinara, alfredo and white wine. The food came out very quickly. I got a nice big dish of colorful tortellini stuffed with cheese, accompanied by a generous amount of mushrooms, onions, and grilled chicken.

I very much regret getting it with the white wine sauce - it was watery and the flavors just did not meld. Otherwise the dish was good- loved the juicy slices of grilled chicken.

However just the general feel  of the restaurant and quality of the menu choices would not intice me to drive all the way to Mt View to eat here. We came here because we were nearby.

The service was also great, our waiter was very nice, filled our glasses and was very patient with the annoying requests of our table. He deserved the generous tip.

Convenient parking lot across the street.

Met some friends here for happy hour the other day. Good atmosphere without being too loud.

I had one of the IPAs and the stout. Both were quite good. We also shared a basket of garlic fries, which were good.

So three things..please for the love of god, either hire more people, staff more people, or get better people. if you know a table of 20 is coming in after the Standford graduation, holy moly adequately staff. that was possibly the worst and slowest service I've experienced, and listen I'm from Portland the land of the disaffected indifferent brew pub server.

it took them 30 min to get me my beer, but the employees sitting at the bar were served and reserved almost immediately.

they cattle called the food. the whole scene screamed untrained inexperienced servers. wow. also the server was impolite besides being terrible. perhaps they are better with 2 tops..which is sad. the only reason they got 2 stars is cause the beer was half way decent.

note- please don't solicit reviews and then ask for only nice ones if you don't provide service worth a 3 to 5 star review. your prices are not worth the hassle of receiving it. if in fact you only have specialty foods which seems to be the only thing anyone is talking about, why have 100 other items on your menu? it's just weird.

    Dear Tied House,

Amy C. is a crankypants when she's hungry.  So, when we learned there was a wait for our table at Chez TJ, we ran next door and shoved some of your ginormous and yummy Black Bean Nachos into her face.

Apparently, large quantities of black beans, melted cheddar and pepper jack cheeses, sliced jalapenos, Cascade Amber beer salsa, and sour cream ($10.25) is the secret to soothing the savage beast.  And since hunger is the best spice, she declared your nachos among the best she's had.

We will definitely be back to try your award winning brews!

    Many Thanks,
    Friends of Amy C.

If we're talking about beer, this place is a 4.5/5. Great great brews and interesting flavors. Came here on a whim on a Thursday, so we took advantage of the $1 half-pints. I 100% recommend you make your first time a Thursday too! Go, sample, drink, munch, and drunk again (wait... *drink... freudian slip there).

Unfortunately, we were sat outside by the hostess and the atmosphere was totally different than inside. Although nice and more intimate, we received poor service and had to struggle to flag down a waiter to get some more brews - which is a big issue when everyone is wanting to get their drink on. As per the food, only sampled the half plate of nachos which was a decent portion for two people and your standard affair. Other menu items seemed to be the regular bar foods at a bit more hiked up prices (apps for 7-10, entrees 15-25).

Want great beers with variety and something you've never tried before? Go here, especially on a Thurs! Looking for that next destination restaurant? I'd say screw it and just go for the beer.
