On my first trip to the east coast my boyfriend brought me to Tides for dinner. The view is absolutely stunning. Tides is right by the water - you can go for a walk along the water after dinner. Really romantic, especially dining as the sun sets and all the pretty lights come out.
As for the food I was torn between rating it three stars or four. Don't get me wrong, the food was good. I had the muscles in marinara sauce and oh boy... were there muscles! The shellfish were definitely fresh and very generous. In California you're probably going to get six measly little muscles but they really pile it on at Tides! The pasta sauce was really brothy and delicious. The portion - huge. The food along with ambiance just lacks refinement or finess. Kind of like Denny's but better eats. -

I struggle with this place because my boyfriend and I have been coming here since 2007 and really liked certain dishes, mine was the Seafood Mac & Cheese, Fried Oyster Dinner and the Stuffed Haddock along with Fried Calamari and Stuffed Mushrooms. They also have a great Eggplant Pizza. I fell out of love with the Tides when they took the Mac and Cheese off the menu.
Some of the servers are nice because they know us, but the bartenders seem to have an attitude or seem lax. We love our tides reward card one night we got a 75 dollar meal for 10 bucks and we love one particular blue drink, the name of the drink escapes me.
But we have cut back dramatically from going to this place. -

Went for a late lunch on a weekend and had no wait.
View was nice, and the food was good but nothing special. -

Really great service and kickass views with better than decent pub food -- we always leave wondering why we don't come in more often. We took my Mom for lunch today and she devoured her fish sandwich with awesome sweet potato fries. My "just" lobster roll was enormous and filled with tender lobster. Omg, the chowda rocks here. AND they have a veggie burger for the veggie boy! The pizza options, we know from experience, are also fab. The boy's beer was served in a frosty pint glass -- well done, Tides. Also, the huge handicapped stall was mucho appreciated. Helpfully accessible.

I really think the place has improved!
I had stopped going there years ago as it always seemed to be fried greasy food etc but recently I have been there 3 times and have had good meals each time. I think they have expanded their menu from when I use to go.
The grilled swordfish could easily compete with the more pricey restaurants up the road and the view is great, mixed drinks are cheap, wine list leaves a bit to be desired but the prices and service definitely make it worth a revisit if you have not been in a long time.
It is not a 4 star restaurant but it does not try to be either. The menu has something for everyone. Great to watch the sun go down or take a walk on the beach. -

Nice view. Mussels scampi was delicious. Onion rings were cold when I got them. Lobster roll with mayo was totally devoid of any flavor. It was packed with a lot of over boiled watery lobster meat.you couldn't even taste the mayo. Total waste of twenty bucks.
Pizza slice was hot, a bit too much cheese, but tasty nontheless. Noce oregano flavor in the sauce - somthing that is all too often missing in pizza. -

We are Tides Reward members. We always take people here who are visiting the city of Boston. You have to eat at the bar or on the patio though to appreciate the beach scene. There are many dishes that I enjoy here: Lobster ravioli, stuffed Haddock, Lemon pepper Sole, and Lobster rolls!!

This place has an amazing location right on Nahant beach with an amazing view you can enjoy all year round and pretty much any weather condition. The in-laws hang out here a lot and I've been dozens of time to join them for a few drinks and maybe some appetizers. Their food is pretty good, I can't think of anything I've ordered that I didn't finish or at least put a good dent in. They obviously serve seafood but their pizzas are really good (hawaiian with teriyaki chicken is the new favorite), and I love how they give you choice of toppings for the potato skins (bacon, broccoli and chili I'm pretty sure).
Overall it's a chill place, nice atmosphere, nice view and pretty good food. If you're in the area it's definitely worth checking out! -

What I like best about this place is the location and the view. I love the ocean and having a bite/drink with a view makes everything better. The food is ok, nothing fantastic and our server was as bright as petrified wood, but that is to be expected. Wasn't my first time there, but it had been a while, it hadn't change a bit.

The food was pretty good, better than I expected. The biggest drawback was the 40-50 minute wait, but what can you do? They told us 40-50 minutes, and sure enough, they sat us in 45. We had a couple of drinks at the bar while we waited.
We sat outside, which was buggy (they warned us), but very pleasant. The waitress was nice and funny, accomodating and professional. Two of us had clam chowder - delicious! Theother two had corn chowder, which they liked very much. I had a greek salad with tuna, and it was huge. My husband had stuffed mushrooms, which were hot and good. One person had the stuffed haddock, which looked phenonmeal. The last person had the BLT, which was stuffed full of bacon, much more than expected. The food took a bit to come out, but on the menu, it says that the stuffed haddock takes extra time.
We woudl def go back on a nice night. It's great to be outdoors eating fresh seafood. -

I love this place. I usually go here in the summer but went for lunch on a cold February day. Food was good. They have a great baked stuff haddock that taste as good in February as it does in July. My daughter swears by their crab cake appetizers. Our server o think her name was Nicole was fantastic
Going back for their really cheap Valentine's day dinner just because o love this place -

This is one of those times when I wish I could rate places in different sub-groups. You can't get a much better location than at Tides, even on a rainy day it was gorgeous. It's one of those places that makes you feel very happy that you live on the east coast.
Food was just okay, but have a feeling that it had been sitting for a bit before it came out since a hamburger and a bowl of chili took 45 min. in a half empty restaurant. -

Meh. Nice view. If you can get an outdoor table it's good for beers, but the food leaves a lot to be desired.

Food was quite average. The veggie quesadilla was okay, but the spinach and artichoke dip wasn't very good. The chicken teriyaki pizza (special) was okay. The other two dishes were below average - eggplant parm and Salmon. The service was decent, and the location is quite nice. Won't be back...

We went for a swim in Nahant at lunch time on a Monday and decided to try the Tides Restaurant carry out for a quick feed. My wife ordered the "lobster salad" roll, which turned out to be tired overcooked lobster in a stale roll. That's it. nothing else. Pretty pathetic. I ordered the scallop plate which contained a few fried scallops that weren't too bad, nothing special, and two varieties of fries, neither cooked adequately, mushy and somewhat cold. Won't make the same mistake twice.

On the last day of a 7-day canoeing trip, I had the best spam of my life. It was some off-brand potted meat product which I'm pretty sure still had bones and tendons in it. But a week in the backcountry will change your perspective on pork waste bits.
Tides is similarly "situationally awesome." By every objective measure, this place rates two stars. My calamari was rubbery and obviously frozen. My margarita was watery and oversweet. And yet, when you've just come off the ocean from a 19 mile paddle, all that matters is that you're on a big deck looking at the atlantic. In this case, quality isn't really the point.
(Also, good people watching. This variety of human isn't common to my yuppie home domain.) -

As long as you don't mind a little white trash with your food... sit outside on the patio if you can or else in the bar area with a table facing the ocean.
I had the Greek salad with grilled shrimp and the shrimp were delicious. The fact that I was surprised by this should give you a further clue to the atmosphere.
I wouldn't make this a destination, but if you are in Nahant and want to eat with a view of the water, definitely give it a try. -
Review from Devon M.
Dorian and I came here yesterday for a little beach adventure and were really happy we did. At first we thought it was just a take-out joint (from looking at it from a distance) and were thrilled to see as we got closer that it wasn't. AND they serve alcohol. Hurray!
We sat out on the patio and were happy. The view is just fantastic. The service was good. Our beers were tall and ice cold. The menu is really good, with lots of cheap raw bar items. In general, the menu was pretty reasonable, and they run specials as well. My salad was delicious, and Dorian's eggplant parm was gigantic. She's been on a mission for the perfect onion rings, and while these ones weren't amazing, they were still decent beer battered rings.
Tides, I have a feeling we'll be seeing more of you this summer. -

The thing about Tides is this: it delivers a consistently pleasant experience. Every time I've been here, I've had a good time, good enough food, a fun time people watching, and have left as happy or happier than when I got there. The prices are reasonable. The views from much of the inside of the restaurant, the bar, and of course the open air deck, are all of Nahant Beach, Egg Rock and the Atlantic Ocean.
The clientele runs the gamut from pretty young things all pierced, tattooed and buff in their kind-of-covered up bikinis and Revere Beach/Medford exiles (ex-cons?) with their goatees, baggy pants, wife-beaters and gold chains, to cougars and their prey, families with little kids, to the senior set, complete with canes, walkers, toupees and blue hair. It is Human Goulash at its finest and it's fun to watch. My girlfriend and I entertain ourselves writing back stories for the groups at other tables while we wait for our food.
The bar area is huge. You can play Keno but it's not the kind of place where everyone's doing that and yelling about it. You can watch the local game on wide screen TV but it's not the kind of place where everyone's doing that and yelling about it either. It looks like you could find Mr. or Ms. Right-Now if that's what you're looking for, but it's not the kind of place... yeah, you know.
I've enjoyed the Greek and Caesar salads with grilled lemon, buffalo, or barbecue chicken on various occasions, and the grilled salmon most recently. All were fine and fair portions, the salmon was delightfully fresh, gently grilled and quite moist. A++ They offered a Buffalo Calamari appetizer one afternoon... excellent. Nachos, good. My companions are veggie-tarians and locals who have been coming here for some time. They like the quesadillas and the salmon offerings. A grilled and caramelized summer vegetable pizza on whole wheat crust was wonderful - fresh, sweet, firm veggies on a crisp thin crust.
Service has always been prompt and cheerful. You can wait up to an hour for a booth or table on weekend nights... probably not worth it unless it's the bar scene that you need. -

What a great casual place to eat by the beach! Had a large group of 28 people ands we were accommodated in their "private room". The rate per person was quite decent as the portions were really large and the waitstaff were so friendly. Dealing with the manager to plan the large group dinner was easy. Only down side was that I wish we could have eaten more as a large group toghether instead of groups of about 8 to a table. Other than that I definitely recommend The Tides for large groups, down to earth, casual dining or just hanging with friends at the bar.

It seems that I am having a "soon to be bad" marriage life with The Tides. Mesmerizing moment I had with their roasted seafood platter at the first time I was here is now distant memory - no longer included in the menu. The fishermen's platter I had was an "OK". I could see the sign of age on broccoli because I saw some yellow spots on the crown.
But I have to say, it didn't taste bad. It was rather good. Because of the beginning was so good that it's hard to keep the excitement going.
Maybe I need to go see a marriage councilor.Listed in:

I would give this place five stars for the views, four stars for the atmosphere, and maybe two stars for the food. First, the views--on a warm summer evening, watching the sun go down while looking out over Nahant Beach is certainly a memorable experience. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, and that outdoor area is perfect when the weather is nice. As for the food, well, it's hit-or-miss. The pizza, for instance, is inconsistent, sometimes being excellent and other times being subpar. The mussels are good, though one time when we went they were lukewarm. Overall, I'd probably be happy here going with a sandwich and a beer and concentrating on the views and atmosphere.

This place is pretty good it makes a good beach day better. Fried food generally does that though. I went there with friends and everyone must have been on a diet because we all got baked fish, and that was pretty good though not as flavorful as i generally like.
The view from inside is great with big picturesque windows, but if your in the back, you can get stuck in a booth that feels very cubicle-like. -

The Tides is a nice alternate to those chains restaurants I like to avoid. It has your basic soup, salad, sandwich, entree spread without being so premade/processed.
The Tides is located at the end of the Nahant causeway on the beach side. Pretty spot. It is divided into a restaurant area and bar. I prefer to eat in the bar because there are tables, the view is nicer, and the dining room tends to have children in it.
I have had several things on this menu. The chili and chips is a nice starter for the table. I tend to stick to their sandwiches and always have a hard time deciding between the buffalo chicken sandwich, the fish sandwich and the lobster roll. Friends swear by the steak and cheese.
The lobster roll at The Tides can be ordered either as a 'salad' sandwich and mixed with mayo -OR- served straight in the bun with drawn butter or mayo. I prefer the latter. However, lately I have noticed that they have been serving claw meat only in the lobster roll. A phenomenon that I have also noticed at Kelly's Roastbeef. Therefore, I have been sticking with the buffalo chicken or fish sandwich (narrowing down my decision). Claw meat, my ass.
The Tides has a vast selection of mussels prepared in various ways. I have had a few of the styles and am never disappointed.
Many beers on tap- Wachusett Blueberry (which I find hard to locate in my travels) is normally what I order- in the 24 oz glass because I don't mess around when I am at The Tides. -

Tides- right in my backyard! how can you not love this view!! If you visit please ask to sit on the deck-although there is inside dinning with windows..Great place to enjoy a combination of your bar food favorites along with a great seafood selection.
Recommendations: Raw bar (ask for mussels), steak tips, and dessert!! -
Review from Tim M.
Marblehead, MA
This is decent place, the food is good the prices are reasonable and above all it is very kids friendly.
Why the 2 stars then ? Because I can't stand the owner, very capricious and rude fellow. As restaurants are in hospitality industry one assumes that the management would be welcoming and cordial.
Well, not so at Tides. Try to order a drink at a bar while waiting for the table and then try to proceed to the said table when it becomes available. You WILL be made to pay and tip before seating down for a dinner. Why is this? Because the owner feels like it is a good policy.
Why is it a good policy ? Because he was burned once in 1986 by a guest that ordered a drink, then sat down and ate and then didn't pay.
If you try to argue that this sort of things just doesn't happen too often and may be it is time to let go those traumatic memories of 1986, he will gently tell you that he is going to throw you out of the restaurant, in those same words.
So my advice is this: Come with kids, come for the calamari and pizza, come for the Tuesday specials and the views of Nahants long beach.
But don't argue with the owner, you both will get aggravated and he clearly enjoys it. -
Review from Krys A.
This place isn't the newest looking place inside, but its got a beautiful waterfront view.
You have 3 seating choices, sit in the dining room area, at the bar or in the bar area with window views of the water, or outside/patio dining along the water. Of coarse, little miss me always wants to sit outside while the weathers nice, so I got to enjoy the pretty view. Service was quick and what I love the most (not annoying). It was free appetizer Tuesday so we got seafood stuffed mushrooms - FREE! (Again, I'm all about free stuff). The mushrooms we're great, just so yummy! I got a salmon plate for dinner and my boyfriend got his usual chicken, broccoli and ziti both with a beer on the side. My salmon plate was cooked, perfect. Places that have good seafood are hard to find. But this was MMM MMM GOOD! What was great about where they seated us, was we were beside the bar and could peek through the windows at the TV to see the score of the red sox game. *wink wink*
Only thing that sucked was the maze to the bathroom. Its ridiculous trying to get there is your sitting out at the patio. I got lost trying to get there and the place isn't THAT big. I asked our server how to get there and he said go around the bar, its behind there. He should have just took me by the hand and walked me there because first I almost ended up in the men's room, then I almost ended up in the kitchen, finally a waiter saw the lost look on my face and pointed me to a door that was practically in the kitchen and said that's the ladies room. I acknowledged his response and walked into the restroom in an awkward silence.
Other than that, great food, beautiful view of Nahant beach... Probably wont be back until Summertime because its just that kind of place! -

We went to Tides to have lunch outdoors on a gorgeous summer afternoon and really enjoyed ourselves.
I had a yummy salmon dish and my boyfriend had seafood mac n' cheese (which he loved). I enjoyed a few summery drinks to match the mood of the afternoon and it was altogether a very nice time.
The bar inside was open and spacious and surrounded by a view of the water. It was nice and bright inside and I'd definitely go back for drinks. -

Great location right on the beach in Nahant. Solid menu, great pizza, might i suggest the Buffalo Chicken Pizza!? They also serve tall cold beers which makes me happy inside. Also a great place in the summer whether you are inside at the bar or outside on the patio overlooking the packed beach. Saddle up and play some Keno, order a good meal and enjoy an adult beverage.

I don't go to The Tides as often as I would like to for two reasons. I'm only in Nahant during the summer & the Tides can be very busy during the summer. During off season it's a bit far just to go for dinner. However it's a nice place to grab a few drinks (careful of the local police) or have a nice meal at a decent price. Many may look at this place as just a beach take out joint. But in fact it's quite large inside with a good size bar, a large dinning room & a nice dinning deck out side, all with great ocean views. Nearly everything on the menu is under $20.00. Service can be slow some times but not enough to be a put off.

I like to judge things. And thanks to Yelp, I am invited to judge things as often as I can. On this particular evening, I was judging Nahant, I was judging the view and of course... I was judging the pizza. I mainly judge pizza by its crust. Too hard? No good... Not enough doughy pieces? Also not okay. Additional elements come into play with a good pizza judge session. Sauce to dough ratio, topping disbursement and amount of cheese. Tides pizza hits the proverbial nail on the head when it comes to these basic (and often ignored) elements. Awesome selections of specialty pizzas and your choice of thin or thick crust, as well as white or wheat dough.
I went to Tides last night with my boyfriend and his parents to grab some food after a birthday party. We were seated after a very short wait in the bar area. There is a really nice view of the water and there are TV screens everywhere so you can catch whatever score it is you're looking for.
The service was quick and pleasant and the pizza was really great. We ordered a Texas BBQ chicken pizza and let me tell you... it was borderline magical. Delicious all white meat grilled chicken, maple smoked crispy bacon, red onion and BBQ sauce. The rents got a pepperoni and onion thin crust pizza that they claimed was "cooked exactly" the way they like it. Good beer selection, and friendly service. I will definitely be back.
They also have a Tides members dining card where you earn points on every purchase. Apparently, they hold a free dinner for all of its members once a year. Kind of a great thing if you spend any significant amount of time in the area.
My advice? Go spend the day at the beach and then land your sun-kissed rear in one of the seats on the patio or in the bar area to catch a sunset, a Sox game and a slice of delicious pizza all up in your grill. -

I like this place alot. The menu is pretty simple, Steaks, pub grub, seafood, that sort of thing. I used to come here with my ex as she lived just down the road in Nahant. The location is great, and you get an awesome view of Nahant beach. The food is pretty good too, simple and hearty. Why New Englanders insist on deep frying or boiling all their seafood I'll never understand, but the fried clams and scallops here are really good, and come in sizable portions. The service is friendly, and even though it does get pretty full we usually got sat right away. This is a good place to end up in after spending the day at the beach.

Mere steps away from the beach, it's truly a perfect spot to grab some grub or cool off with a drink during or after a long beach day. The menu is surprisingly extensive, but with that comes some questionable price tags (half order of fried clams at $23 while a full order is $28?). And the establishment is deceptively large, with an indoor lounge, bar, dining room, separate take-out facility, and a deck. All designed as a maze-like structure that makes it a little interesting to find the restroom from your seat outside on the deck, to say the least.

The location and view can't be beat. I only wish the food was better (my fish sandwich was half-hearted at best). The french fries were thin and over-fried and tasted like Burger King french toast (in fact the whole place smells like that). Can I get some syrup for my fries please? All in all it was nice to sit outside next to the beach and have a beer. It is what it is.

Tides is kid and schlump friendly. Just finished with a relaxing day on the beach? Don't bother to change out of your suit or wipe off the sand, just throw on your cover up and head on over. The seafood is good and the portions are generous. With any luck, you'll be seated with a great view of the ocean. The issues I have with this place regard customer service. I ordered one kind of chardonnay and received another. We ordered a mussels a la frank appetizer and a coconut shrimp appetizer, we received a mussels entree and a shrimp appetizer. We went on Sunday and $2 wasn't deducted from our entree as per the Sunday special. Don't get me wrong, as the only show in town, this place could charge a lot more and the food could be a lot worse but a little attention goes a long way, with good customer service, maybe I'd wash in with the tide more often.

Went to dinner tonite at the Tides in Nahant - service was great - love the old fashioned booths in the dining room. the view of the ocean is fabulous I had the clam chowder which was yummy but on the thick side. The baked haddock stuffed with lobster shrimp and scallops was to die for. Prices reasonable. Casual dress.

Nice view. Food was ok. What i would have expected from a local pub and bar. I had the fish sandwich. Tarter sauce was good. Honestly - it was nothing special except for the view. That's the best part. I'd go back but it was a bit on the expensive side for lunch. Oh well.
