I go for the beans in a tostada shell and chips and salsa. Best in town! The cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. Chili verde. The salsa bar is always stocked. This place is kept clean. If the parking lot is full don't let that scare you. Service is fast and the wait is minimal. The food is excellent and the prices are fair.
About $15-20 a person.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Tonia C.Monterey, CA60158869Mar 11, 2024
Ticos is a Fast Casual spot with pretty good Mexican food. The menu is huge, the food comes out fast and hot and they include breakfast. They have ground beef in addition to the other kind of beef, if you prefer it and a few vegetarian options like Chile Relleno and Veggie Burritos. They feature nachos for a fun night of football watching. Their portions are enough for two meals, at least.
Their extensive a la carte menu means you don't have to waste any food. They have add-ons, including a high-quality sour cream, ie; not watered down like at other spots. Large list of beverages, including milk and flavored milk, apple & orange juice rather than the usual soda fountain or iced tea.
I've just discovered that you can buy the Taco Salad Shells alone so you can fill it with your own salad! Cool to know. Or how about taking some Mole sauce home and using your own meat for it?
What more can you ask for when you're in a hurry and need a "real" meal?
They are a solid three stars. But when you are an unpretentious, affordable spot, it's just what busy families need to get a quick meal on the table, so three stars hits the spot.
Drawbacks: Uses too much cheese even if you ask not to (lol), Chips are a paid item only, Salsa is not to my personal taste.
Friendly service, food is super hot, comes out fast, affordable, big portions, something for everyone. Family-owned.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Angee G.Salinas, CA1522667Jan 11, 2024
My go to is the Combination burrito. It has Meat, beans & cheese. That's it. I get the shredded beef. For $6.50 it's a good price for a good size burrito.
They're known for their beans which are some of my favorite.
The fresh salsa bar is good. You don't see those very often anymore. All the salsas are good but the green one is my favorite because it's the spiciest. Their "thousand island" dressing at the salsa bar is good too.
I've always seen the place clean, I like all the plants everywhere.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jeremy H.Berkeley, CA3758Apr 24, 2024
The person at the cash register was so rude I stopped ordering halfway through and walked out. Not sure what her issue was . As soon as I walked in, she asked me if I was ready to order and I said I just needed a few minutes because this is my first time here I could tell she was for some reason obviously bothered by that and her attitude only got worse. I walked out.

I have friends that live here and they wanted Mexican food while visiting!
This is their favorite so we picked up enchiladas, tacos, a Chile relleno, a tostada and a taco salad. 7 of us are for about $150. Kinda sucks they don't include chips and salsa, but there was a complimentary salsa bar. The salsas were pretty good. The beans were good too! Everyone seemed to had loved what they ordered. I had the taco salad, I didn't expect much, but it was good. This place is comparable to a Pepe's in Las Vegas. Not a place I would choose to go to, but it was worth it seeing my friends happy:))Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - CentralCoast831 N.Monterey, CA012Jan 28, 2024
Just not what it use to be, while some items remain the same in taste unfortunately portion and pricing do not. Money grab style menu..just ridiculous. No longer a go to just a here n there. Hit or miss on the food..inconsistent

My whole family here in salinas patronize Tico Taco, we order beans, rice and cheese burritos. Personally, there hard shelled chicken tacos or, chile relleno. It's so fast to call your order in, and by the time you've arrived from home, the order is ready. A tip( as you walk in on the right side of the counter is their salsa bar, if it's freed up fix your salsa and then pay. They'll pack up your order. Both the beans and rice are like what I grew up with. While I like tacos from the other place, Tico Tacos are light years ahead of restaurants for flavor, services, ambience and food.

We love Ticos Tacos. My favorites are the chile relleno, crispy tacos and enchiladas. It reminds me of me of the old Mexican restaurant that used to be in Alvin Square called Cozumel.

The food was okay but not fully worth the price. For dine in they serve in to go boxes which was odd.
