Since moving to Gilroy, CA, many of the local friends we've made have come from folks we've met at the dogpark. Dog people just seem to generally be good people. One of our good friends from the dogpark always spoke highly of Chad/Thriving Canine. We'd often talked commiserated about several friends who desperately needed someone like Chad/TC to assist with their dogs' aggressive issues (dog to dog), but sadly they never took us up on the recommendation. Btw, the friend that recommended Chad/TC called him the Cesar Millan of Gilroy. So, naturally we were excited (we love the work Cesar does).
We have two dogs, both pound rescues, Kumo and Danica.

Kumo is almost 3, Danica 6 months younger.
When we adopted Kumo at 3 months, we'd done our research, watched a lot of cesar, and ended up also taking a puppy training course at Petsmart. It got him on his way (sit, stay, down, wait, take it, leave it, etc). However, one thing that Kumo never seemed to pick up from us was how to walk without pulling. We were doing everything that we'd been instructed to do, but it just didn't seem like it was enough.
My wife recently started running again, and she can take Danica (she heals so well, we didn't teach her to be that good). Kumo on the other hand, he's all over the place, pulling, etc, and as a result, my wife's shins hurt (Kumo's behavior unbalanced her).

We booked a 2 hour at home private training session this last saturday. I was able to set it up via the website, and Chad confirmed in email. Upon request, Chad billed up so we could use paypal to pay for his services.
The Session went like this:
Hour 1: History/Q&A
We gave him the history, answered questions, became acquainte
Hour 2:Training work
We agreed to let Chad take Kumo on leash and watch what he was doing to compare what we had already done.
Without going into full detail, Chad had him walking with more structure, essentially healing, in the first 5-10 minutes.
Yesterday, and this morning, I took kumo for short 5-10 minute walks to practice with him, and with our new method, Kumo is so much more responsive. I can already see it's going to work, and for the first time since we've had kumo (several years), we'll be able to walk him without him pulling. It warms my heart.
Chad is professional, and a true gentleman. He understands dogs and their behaviors, not just what he has been told, but what truly works. he clearly explained what he was going to do before he did it, ensuring we were okay with his methods. he even brought his own dog Nikita out to assist with the training (walking by other dogs, etc).
Now, if only we can convince our other friends to use his services!
Also, Chad offers several additional continued education courses for dogs and group exercise activities. He has Monday night group training in Morgan Hill ($10), and Dog Agility coures on Saturdays (weather permitting, etc).
My wife is going to start bringing the dogs to the Monday night drop in courses.
In short, Chad understands dogs. He truly is like a local cesar Millan (except, you don't have to be a star!)
Thanks Chad! -

After adopting our dog, Bear, this past August, we quickly realized that although he is a good dog, he really didn't understand what we were trying to get him to do when saying basic commands. Since we had just moved to Morgan Hill, I went online to see what training options we had in our area and found Chad at Thriving Canine.
We signed up for the 6 week basic training course and I could see changes even after our first "Humans Only" class with Chad. His knowledge and advice on how to communicate effectively with your dog was right on target. Bear immediately responded to even the smallest change in approach, it was really impressive. And the hands on training classes were even better. Over the 6 weeks he learned and remembered all of the basics: Sit, Down, Stay, Come, along with long leash training, leave it, and so much more. The classes concluded with a quick test of skills and certificate followed by some fun agility training, which all the dogs loved.
I would highly recommend Thriving Canine for any of your dog training needs. We (both the dog and us!) have learned so much already. I can't wait to start the next round and see what else there is that Chad can teach us! -

A few months ago, Chad came out to San Leandro to help with my roommate's two Shih Tzu puppies, Bella and Buster. Chad was awesome! He sat with us and asked about the puppies, what type of issues they were having and what we were hoping to accomplish. We really appreciate that Chad doesn't have an hourly rate, as he was with us and the pups for almost three hours. He really cares about helping you and your dogs - not the money. He has a very relaxed style, which we really appreciated since Bella is pretty timid. By the time Chad left, he has provided us with a ton of useful information (he has a great way of laying everything out), some great tips and had the puppies doing a couple tricks! He also thoroughly answered all of our questions.
Overall, I highly recommend Thriving Canine dog training services. It was a great experience! -

We had Chad come out to our house a few weeks ago to help us with our two dogs who are a 3.5 y/o boxer and a 1 y/o black lab. Both dogs have energy to spare. Our lab changes the dynamic in the house since she is still so young.
Chad has given us tools to help with many of the behavior issues we have been dealing with. We are finding it is much easier to train the dogs than it is the humans they come in contact with. But we are all learning.
We especially appreciate Chad checking in on us to be sure things are on track. -

My dogs & I have been working with Chad for a couple of months. Up until about 4 months ago, I was doing fine with my 2 dogs - one XL "smarty pants" collie/shepherd/retriever mix and one L happy-go-lucky Labrador. I consider myself an informed & engaged dog "parent" - exercise, discipline, affection - we walk/run/exercise at length every morning, play ball every afternoon, and walk every evening.
Then, I moved to the city and in the process, happened to pick up a small terrier mix (who had been dropped off in the fields where the 2 big guys are boarded). Following the move, there was a "disaster" every week (e.g., one dog was skunked, the dogs locked themselves in the car). Needless to say, I was stressed. Then, my mother came to visit & had a not-great encounter with Mr. Smarty Pants, which made me more stressed. I needed help!
Chad was recommended by Carmela at Creature Comfort (she knows my dogs really well). He worked with my dogs at Creature Comfort and has worked with me and my dogs there and at home. Having Chad in my house was super helpful. One - it gave me a new perspective on my situation and two - he zeroed in on some simple things that I could be doing, things that I can lost sight of in the move.
While my over-achiever Mr. Smarty Pants still needs "work" I feel encouraged because we've been able to figure out some subtleties that are unique to him. Chad is successful because he is persistent, unflappable, and genuinely interested in the dogs. Also, because he takes the time to work with my dog in different circumstances: with me alone, with the other dogs, with Carmela, and with him alone.
Chad even took Mr. Smarty Pants to Petco and hung out with him for over an hour to see what motivated him and what made him nervous. Super helpful observations! I highly recommend Chad. If I was closer to Gilroy, I would take his classes and go on the hikes.Listed in: Goober Dogs

We hired Chad to come to our house to work with our new pup. We have 3 dogs ranging in age from 12 years to 9 months. Adding the 3rd dog to the group completely the dynamic at our house and we needed some help. So we called Chad!
He was great with all of our dogs and by the end of the training session they were all asleep. He showed us some great activities to do with the puppy where we still get to play rough with him. We also went on a walk where Chad helped us with that.
He training technique is the right kind. Your dogs will listen!! Highly recommended and we look forward to working with him in the future. -

Chad is wonderful to work with. He loves animals and is patient with owners (we generally need more work than the dogs do) I recommend any pet owner to take some of his classes and the group hikes are a lot of fun and a great workout for dogs and owners alike!

AWESOME! Chad helped me with a VERY playful high strung Aussie puppy. It's been 15 years since I've had a puppy and forgot all the training techniques you need to have a happy well-adjusted dog. Chad uses techniques that I highly recommend. If you have a puppy it's a MUST to go through his puppy socialization class. Take it from someone who had a very aggressive dog in the past (no fun)! THANKS CHAD!

The Dog Whisperer of the South Bay. I have a five month old puppy who has sleeping and potty training issues. I enrolled in his puppy training but wanted some additional one on one advice. Chad has a program to meet everyone's needs. If he doesn't have a program that meets your needs, he will create one. I like his positive attitude and his obvious love of animals.
