If you're looking for great classes without an intimidating "scene," Thrive is the place to be. The teachers are excellent, and the students represent all ages, body types, and levels of experience. It's a great choice for newbies as well those more familiar with Pilates and fitness. The monthly memberships are VERY reasonably priced, and include all the Pilates classes as well as a variety of cardio and dance styles. I really can't praise this place enough -- it's a perfect alternative for those of us who hate the gym, but love the results.

I'm in the email list at Thrive through going to Philly Power Yoga classes. They occasionally send out a list of upcoming workshops. I signed up for a 6 week beginner ballet class. The class time is 4:30 on Mondays which isn't super convenient with work, but I'm loving the class. I have zero ballet experience, but the instructor, Sun Mi, is really approachable. Most of the other ladies in the class seem to have a bit of experience, but they are friendly. It's a really nice way to start the week.

Being new to Pilates, I was nervous about going into a class setting. Thrive Pilates made me feel welcome from the moment I stepped into their building. Everyone talks like they've known you forever. The teachers remember your name and what you have trouble with and pay special attention when you need it. The environment is friendly and very clean, but best of all, it was fun.
There are a good variety of classes offered at Thrive Pilates which you could also sign up for online. The teachers know how to instruct in a way that doesn't make you feel defeated. They truly help your form and self esteem. Everyone is welcomed into the classes no matter what level you're on but you also have the choice of selecting a class based on your level for maximum comfort.
A very comfortable setting :)
The only bad thing I have to say is that the classes got too expensive for me so I haven't been back in a while :( -

I selfishly don't want to share Thrive because I want to keep it a secret. This place is awesome! A no-nonsense, no-attitude studio that provide fitness classes or 1:1 session with a smile. Lauren & Hally, the owners are amazing and love them. I take the Red Hot Dance Fitness classes with Christina. Its addicting as you dance to the current music. I really wished they offered it 3x/week. She incorporates great choreography and the way she teaches the class makes it very easy to follow...that's because Thrive only hire the best of the best instructors. Btw, if you teach dance classes & you can't even dance to the rhythm of the music, you shouldn't be teaching at all. I'm just saying. Only drawback, the studio can get crowded once it reaches its full capacity. You need to limit your extensions but you can still bootie dance til the cow comes home. Otherwise, I would give it a 5 star. Check it out!

As a new comer to the world of Pilates, I was happy to find a class that suits my level and my schedule. For 2 weeks I have attended Jay-Hoon's Saturday morning Pilates mat class, and I'm hooked! I find the class challenging but easy to follow through Jay-Hoon's instruction. He gives several options of modification for each pose so that if you injured or want to really push it, there's a modification to suit you. The studio itself is beautiful and the price ($50 for 5 mat classes) is very reasonable for the quality of the class. Certainly would recommend this studio to friends.

Wow. Well what can I say...this place rocks for so many reasons. Hally Bayer is at the helm of Thrive Pilates, which is the Pilates "arm" of PhillyPowerYoga. She is fantastic, and her instructors are all very different but have their own unique way of teaching pilates. The studio resides upstairs from PPY on the second floor. it's conveniently located right off of Rittenhouse Square. I've actually taken private lessons with Hally for some time now, so when she went to start the new program at PPY, I obviously wanted to see what it was like. The vibe at the classes is really nice...communal. Whatever level you're at, there's a spot for you in a mat class. People are friendly, instructors are helpful. Overall a good spot to learn Power Pilates in a friendly, approachable environment. There's a lot more room in this studio than others I've been in, so the mat classes easily fit 12+ people at a time.
PS - Get to know Hally - she is fantastic!
