I almost hate to give the secret away on this new shop, but I also loved it so much I just have to share!
I visited Thriftique this weekend to look around for some stuff for my new apartment. They had posted a couple great items on Craigslist, and I decided to trek out to Lisle (from Rogers Park, no less!) to see if it was as good as it seemed. I was not disappointed.
The prices were ridiculously cheap for household items. Sure, there were your standard dusty shelf nick-nacks that get passed over, but there were also some amazing cabinet pieces, mirrors, lamps and other items. In all, I hauled a pair of lamps (gorgeous and unused but with CFL light bulbs included!), a marble-top mahogany side table, a Degas-style ballerina sculpture, and a cherry wood wall-mount shelf for hanging keys for a total of $60. I wished I had a moving truck with me for some of the other things there like a gorgeous navy blue stained and gold-trimmed hutch for $150. The whole store felt like a collection of shabby chic scores from Craigslist all gathered in one place.
I didn't spend much time in the clothing section. It wasn't as bulked up as the furniture section, nor did I think the deals were as big of steals as the household stuff. There was some really cool jewelry and some great shoes for reasonable prices.
The owner was extremely helpful and friendly, working alongside his staff to help out customers and fix up the inventory. As for the other staffers, most of them are all young high schoolers from around town. While I was there at the end of the day on Saturday, one scrappy and sweet 14-year-old kid on staff looked like it had been the longest day of his short life.
Just a heads up that if you are going to check Thriftique out, it's nestled in a strip mall and (as of June 14) has no sign marking it. Main Street is under construction, but the shop is there!

Find of the CENTURY! My wife and I stopped in a few weeks back, and we were upset that we didnt have a truck to bring all of the great finds home with us. What a great mixture of antiques and misc items all rolled into one beautiful package. I can't wait to go back. The store owners are on to something. Tell EVERYONE!
