Woo Hoo!  I have purchased enough on my Thrift Town buyers' guard to get  $10 off today's purchases!

They have tons of everything here!  So make sure you are well rested before you sift through the neatly arranged clothing, linens, books, toys,  shoes, purses, housewares, furniture and everything under the sun.

I've actually gone here 4 or 5 other times and always managed to either find what I was looking for or something I didn't know I needed.

I was tempted to buy some wonderful things like a 24 inch pristine Snoopy, a CD rack, an Elmo fleece blanket, etc etc but I focused on a few shirts (including a girly Hawaiian shirt for $2.99), a fleece blanket with cats on it for our two cats who've already deposited fur on our blankets and books for several friends who have kids.  Huzby also bought books.

So my advice for first timers:

    1) Be well rested
    2) Go during the week for easier parking (if you drive)
    3) Focus on only a few sections to avoid "burn out."
    4) Although you may not find your heart's desire, you'll definitely find something you'll like!

Friendly staff.  When I tried to go upstairs with my basket of clothing the sweet guard gently told me that 1st floor items weren't allowed upstairs,
despite the many signs which I missed.  He could have easily yelled and said, "Hey, you stupid idiot, can't you read the signs?"

Instead he offered to take my basket to the front corner where i could pick it up later.

Our cashier was nice too.  She was patient and friendly and gave me coupons for future visits!

    And fyi

They have HALLOWEEN COSTUMES!   I didn't look at the circular rack.
They appear to be mostly kids' stuff.

Oh my goodness, this is a two-story! Walked out with two items for a total of $9 something. The boyfriend was waiting, so I had to keep a move on :(

Will definitely come back and check it out. They are always having a good sale on top of great deals already. Check for deal announcements on yelp!

After reading (somewhat) rave Yelp reviews, I decided to check this place out during my (brief) search for a business dress for an event.

The place is dirty and the street it's on is dirty. The doorway was dripping water and there was no way to avoid getting splattered. I've been to several thrift stores, but this one felt...like a barn. I came here with some visiting family members, and I feel really guilty for subjecting them to Thrift Town. Now, I should know what I'm getting myself into with a place called "Thrift Town", and I took everything with a grain of salt.

I tried to be as quick as possible with my browsing because my family looked incredibly uncomfortable in the store. I was able to bee-line it to the dress section. My first impression was that the dresses seemed more dated (note: not vintage, but outdated) and matronly than I was hoping and expecting. Even though the selection was not that diverse, I still was able to find a few little black dresses that I tried on. And most were under $10. I never thought I'd consider a $15 dress too expensive.

The dressing room situation was a little sketchy to me. Good thing I'm a pro at changing clothes without actually being bare and naked at any point (thank you, middle school locker room modesty) because I felt like the people on the second floor could easily see me through the top of the dressing room door. The young man who opened a room for me was nice enough, but when I left, I looked around to make sure I didn't have an item number tag hanging on the door or that I left anything in the room. Some older guy from behind the counter saw me and felt the need to leave the counter and escort me out of the room. I felt it was more of an "I need to make sure you're not trying to steal anything" surveillance move than a helping hand. I was quite offended...especially since I arrogantly considered myself too high-end to shop here.

I think Thrift Town is a fun place to look around if you have an hour or so (and you somehow don't have to pay for parking). I actually have to commend them for having workers all around the store organizing clothes--better than Forever21! The clothes are pretty cheap, and, again, you need some time--or excellent shopping skills--in order to find those nice pieces among the piles.

Love this place. All the clothes on the 1st floor is well organized and labeled. Staff is very wary, which is understandable considering the location; none of the items from downstairs can be carried upstairs. All large bags and purses have to be checked in, etc.

I found a few bright simple purple dresses to purchase and a beautiful shade of red, soft weave scarf that had a southeast-asian gold pattern at the tips. Only $4 too. I made the decision not to get it though, because a long thread were pulled out and loose. Sighs.

The upstairs is interesting, but doesnt appear to have many things.. just a random assortment of holiday decorations, so so used furniture, travel bags, small selection of art prints, lamp shades etc.

When I'm feelin' like 'gettin' thrifty wit' it,' Thrift Town is where I wanna be. I've purchased many awesome retro items for my apartment here - it feels so go to leave with a huge bag of wares for not a lotta skrills.

I must admit that the ladies clothing section can be a little daunting, and like most places in SF, pretty picked over. But I've found awesome picture frames, curtains and textiles, and shoes here in the past.

Warning: This place is huge and often quite busy. Make sure you're in the mindset to dig and dig while you dodge other treasure hunters. After all, that's how the best thrifters find the real gems.

Pros: great hours and open late, they take credit cards, friendly folks working here, lots of clothes, kitchen stuff, children's stuff, and BOOKS!  So many books!  I found two really really great books right next to each other and they're almost new!  What a find for four bucks apiece!  If I didn't have to worry about how I would pack everything into my luggage to go back to Phila, I would have bought way more stuff.  Cons:  you gotta pick through a lot of other stuff if you want to find something special.

I'm not a huge fan of thrift stores because I'm allergic to all the dust and I usually can't find anything that fits me. But I can still appreciate what thrift town has to offer.

Thrift town is large, pretty well organized, and has a decent selection of items. It's not hard to find really nice shoes here, and if you're a girl, probably a lot of other stuff too.

Be prepared for the place to be pretty full of people, and for the prices to be a bit on the higher side. I suppose that's what you get when you're in the heart of the mission.

Rolled up to my favorite thrift shop in town to prepare for winter. After all that wonderful summer I was in need for some jeans and warm jackets to tide me over. What better place to go than Thrift Town?

I think I love how organized they are most of all. They have a great selection and everything is cheap without being CHEAP.

Big tip of the day is to shop early. Sometimes mid to late day you can run into a hobo parade. Most parades are fun filled events but I recommend skipping this one.

Second big tip of the day; wash all the clothes you buy twice with extra softener. It will really get rid of the 'thrift' smell so it doesn't infect your closet.

    Pros:
    - Large variety of different styles of clothes.
    - Vintage section!
    - Two levels of stuff to check out
    - CHEAP. I found a really groovy 80's looking shirt for 7 bucks. It was a great bargain.
    - Friendly customer service

    Cons:
    - Hobos, bums (I was in the fitting room and I heard a hobo come in next to me and shit because "he really had to go.." The employees cleaned it up and it stopped smelling crappy after like 5 minutes. GROSS)
    - Can be a little overwhelming the many things to look at, deff. wanna plan to stay here a while if you want to really explore the store.

I just had an urge to shop today and decided to go thrifting here in order to save money and feel a little better about my spending habits, although my shopping urges were not satiated and I still ended up at the mall...

    Anyway.

I came here this morning at 10am sharp after reading all the glorious reviews you yelpers wrote, but I was a little disappointed because I didn't find many things that I liked. Well, clothes/shoes-wise at least. Maybe it was just an off day. Staff was very friendly though, everything was very organized, and there were extremely good deals so I'll still give you 4 stars Thrift Town. In exchange, hopefully you'll have something good for me next time?

I expected more. Yes, this is a two level thrift store, but the clothing section was disappointing! Hardly any vintage, hardly any dresses, hardly any anything! The prices are great as usual, but the Fremont thrift store that's only a mile or two from my house is so much more impressive. The best part about this place was their handbag supply, they had many cute side purses for really good prices. But overall, I'm not coming here next time I'm in San Francisco.

The best Thrift Town location EVER! I don't care what anyone else says!

I always find something I like, regardless of whether or not I need it. But, that's fine with me. I found a vintage black genuine leather moto jacket for less than $10 here. I'm talking legit stuff! The good stuff that you can probably re-sell for a lot more!

The clothing and shoes can seem picked over at times because this place seems to attract all the hipsters for obvious reasons. But, the store gets new items in daily and they seem to put them out right away.

I mostly like to spend my time on the first floor where all the clothing is at because upstairs is mainly housewares, books, furniture, and other odds and ends. Don't get me wrong, upstairs is just as much a goldmine as downstairs. I don't own my own house, but if I did, you better believe a lot of their inventory would be showcased in it.

Customer service is good. It's the other customers that you have to watch out for. Not in a bad way, but as far as them getting to the hidden gems before you. So, as always, if you see something you even have to think twice about, just snatch it up right away or else you'll be sorry. Trust me. I know the feeling...

Yes. Everyone knows about thrift town, but that doesn't mean you should skip it on your tour of the Mission thrift belt. I love thrift town. They get new things in everyday and they get GOOD things. I found a pair of Lucky Brand jeans for $20 and they fit me like a glove. AND they have the best selection of Bill Cosby sweaters in the city hands down!

It's definitely worth the stop. I always find something there and they are constantly having sales. I'm talking a pair of hight wasted jean shorts for $1 type sales! I guarantee you will find something you like without breaking $20

I admit I'm not really a fan of thrift shopping unless it involves two things: cheap VHS movies or if I have to attend some stupid 70s/80s/90s party and I need something last minute.

My plan was to stay home and watch Disney movies in bed like a lazy heifer.  The thing about Disney is you have to wait for the damn Disney Vault to re-release specific movies one at a time and when that happens it's normally never on sale so your stuck in a long line at Target paying $22.99 for a damn DVD.  I decided to just save money, go to a thrift store and buy all the Disney movies my heart desires for my good old VHS player I still have in my closet.

$1.99 each.  wow.  I left Thrift town with 13 classic Disney videos like a nerd.  I don't mind it being VHS, something about the plastic white tapecovers brings back good ole memories of my childhood.

+5, well organized, the staff that were there sweet, and the place is pretty damn big.

four stars is for the awesome rollerblades i got for $10!! pretty much brand new and i love the green n purple colors.

Went here on friday and it was pretty busy. It's actually entertaining to walk upstairs and look at all the old shit for sale. Like videos, old ass cell phones, big fat heavy computer screens...ahhh the good ol' days..

Clothes n shoes are okay. Didn't see anything eye catching. The coupons sent to my email are a plus as well as the color tag of the day 50% off deal.

Parking sucks on mission as always but you can park on the back roads or side streets.

Oh and the area where it says "vintage" and "pajamas", that area smells like straight up PISS. Beware. :)

Been walking past this place a few times but never got the chance to go in. I'd seen all the great yelp reviews, but when I finally did go in, it was ten minutes before closing :(

TEN MINUTES TO FRANTICALLY SCRAMBLE THROUGH ALL THE RACKS.

My fellow thrifter Ayumi Y. actually did pick up two items in those ten minutes -  a small sturdy crossbody bag and a red scarf. Total: $12.

When I move into a new apartment or something, gonna come here and buy random shit for decorating purposes. Win.

I think I died and went to second-hand heaven!! Elizabeth, a friend from childhood, came into the city to visit me and we went to the Mission to look around and shop for curiosities. We came upon Thrift Town and had to check it out. I had never been until last week, but I'm so glad I finally got to experience it. I got so many cute little items for super cheap. I've been looking for a nice denim mini skirt in my size with no luck, until I found an Abercrombie and Fitch skirt in a "00" for only $2.99. Hot diggity!

Other wondrous items I found at Thrift Town include a gorgeous Betsey Johnson dress (also for less than three dollars), a silk Gap skirt, and a bunch of little sweaters that I plan on cutting up and making new. Hooray for thrifting! Even broke bitches like me can get their retail therapy on, and feel chic for less!

I have to say that I'm not a super-thrifter. I don't drool over the prospect of going through somebody's throw-aways, but I do think it's pretty cool to discover a "pearl in the rough" without feeling like I spent too much doing it. I cannot say that Thrift Town gives me a warm gushy feeling. It could be the anti-shoplifting security where you have to check your bags at the door --- but I can totally understand the need to prevent 5-finger discount fans from going nuts here.

I just don't feel very thrifty perusing their stuff. I went looking for used medium-sized pictures to gut for just their frames. The frames were priced so much that it seemed to make more sense to just buy new from retail. And then I nearly fell over when I found two rather large, fancy-framed but blah prints priced at 90 bucks! I don't think so. (Meanwhile at the Van Ness Goodwill I found some pretty framed pictures for less than 12 dollars.)

Thrift Town's not so thrifty for some basic things.

This. place. is. AWESOME. Treasure-hunting in Ross? Ogling cute kitchen items at Daiso? Forget those. Thrift Town is where it's at!

It has pretty much everything, from ugly sweaters for Christmas parties, vintage wine glasses (think cents! meager dollars!) for the poor graduate student to TATUNG rice cookers for the hungry bachelor(rette) (the kind that you can triple-duty! soup, steamed veggies and rice ALL AT ONCE). Also, helluva lot of furniture that you could spice up with paint or new fabric.

My only concern is, how do people get the stuff they buy out of the store?? Do they bring a cargo van?? Do they bring a string of friends to help them carry everything out?

My next visit, I am taking my suitcase with me. The kind that us fobs used before airlines freaking reduced the weight limits: http://bit.ly/iO5m6z

Thrift shoppers: this is heaven. You will find typical things, trash, but also some treasures. As other reviewers have noted, as you come in, be sure to avoid the clothes (they distract you), and go straight upstairs where all of the true treasures and finds are waiting for your discovery.

I've come here a hand full of times, always finding a bargain for books (if you get lucky you'll find a recent book), sports equipment, cooking utensils, and board games. That's just the stuff I usually get. There is a lot of stuff to navigate through. They also have an extensive selection of used golf clubs and putts, which seemed funny to me how dispensable golf equipment seemed to be.

I've never found a place that had so many used things that appealed to me, while still selling for a good price. Sometimes they even have sales (ha like it wasn't a sale already), so look out for those.

Good luck with your journey, because you'll have a hard time leaving Thrift Town without buying something.

One of my favorite places to thrift. I almost always find something here. It's soooo cheap! The past couple of times I've gone, I've brought home 2 bags of chunky knit sweaters for less than $10. The other day I got a cool denim-looking button up, that looked practically brand new. Brand was Faconnable and it was only 1.99 or something!

Sometimes it seems a little picked over. But it's ok. I usually find something after browsing all the racks. It's good to come here with a lot of time, a lot of patience, and with not too many things to carry (i.e. come with an across the body bag so you don't have to carry it on your shoulder for a long time. And wear comfortable shoes. You'll be standing!)

The store is clean and organized. The selection can be good, or not so great. Like I said, you'll probably find something you'll like though. There are so many racks to choose from!

Good place to shop if you're on a budget. Some people can really find treasures here. If I had more time I would definitely spend more time here.

I like going to Thrift Town immediately off my buzz from Taco Happy Hour at El Toro.  I walk straight up the stairs in back to the weird electronics section and think about all the Christmas gifts I could cross off my list in one fell swoop.

Last time, there were a dozen sealed boxes of orange plastic battery operated can openers, $1.99 each.  There I have also bought an electronic drum set ($29), a glow in the dark puzzle ($1.50), and every Christmas ornament in the store ($15).

And about this coupon punch system!  If you know you're at $19, get something else for a dollar!  Don't be a dumdum!  Some people shop here because they can't afford anything else so be freaking grateful that you found those cordovans for $3 and stop complaining about your coupon.

I feel qualified to write this review about thrift town because I frequent it so often and also because I won a nationwide contest they held last month.

I got my prize (a $100 GC) in the mail yesterday. PERFECT TIMING! Today they had a sale- 50% off all clothing! I dropped by this morning and picked up 3 shirts (one of them was silk, one was cashmere) and a sweater for $11. SO CHEAP.

They usually have sales once a week for 30% off.  If they don't have a sale, there is usually some sort of coupon.  They hand out the coupons in store and via email.  They also have a frequent buyer card.

My favorite thing about thrift town is their method of organization.  First, they have a designated row for vintage clothes. Also, they now sort their clothes by size. I've never seen a thrift store do this before and always wished for it. Now I don't have to do so much digging.

The store itself is gigantic and bright- 2 stories full of treasure! There are always employees loading new clothes onto the racks and picking up around the store.  I've never seen it disorganized.

Another reviewer complained about a lack of dressing rooms.  There are two dressing rooms on the lower level sort of behind the registers, back by the jewelry displays.

And if that wasn't good enough for you, it's only one block away from the 16th Street BART station.  Plus, I always go across the street to La Oaxacena for post-thrifting tamales.

I always have to keep in mind that I'm on a motorbike and can only carry so much. So if you see a chick flying down Mission on a scooter with bags and shit flailing all over the place, more than likely it's me on my way home from Thrift Town.

This is my go-to thrift store when I have the time to peruse.  Surprisingly enough, it is also my thrift store of choice when I have a specific item I am looking for.

My biggest beef with most thrift stores is lack of organization.  Thrift Town does it's best to keep each area of the store clean and organized.  I always go straight to the shoes when I come here.  It's the best place to start as they always seem to have cute shoes in both vintage and modern styles as well as my shoe size (SCORE!).

I've found designer pieces and vintage frocks that would sell for a grip at Mission Thrift.  I always get compliments on pieces that I've purchased here and shop here so much that I complete my Frequent Buyer Punch Card (EXCELLENT IDEA) within a week or two.

The employees get a little short with you, but I think it adds to the store's appeal.  I recommend it for killer clothing pieces and even housewares.

*** BE AWARE of the handicap dressing room, however.  There is a gap directly above the top of the dressing room door and anyone on the 2nd floor can totally see into your dressing room if they wanted to.  I noticed this the last time I used that room and felt so creeped out.

Thrifting - I'm sure it fulfills some leftover feelings of hunter-gatherer still buried in my genetic makeup. Really, I love the thrill of a good score and can be very patient when it comes to sorting through the racks. I have a special mindset that I'm sure incorporates meditation or concentration (can't tell which) making me impervious to screaming children, cell phone bleating and stare downs from competitive shoppers. That said, I do like the second hand mecca known as Thrift Town.

Some thrift stores are a helpless mishmash of trash and treasures. Thrift Town has catagories to sort out the chaos. Two stories of pawing awaits you inside and if you're someone who can find humor in what was once someone else's treasure, you're in for some visual treats in here! I'm telling you if one ever needs a quick Golden Girls/ Mrs. Roper fix, look no further. But the signs positioned around the store should not be the end all, be all guides for your excavation. Roam and comb the way of the land. Case in point, I found a brand new Kate Spade (with tags from Nordstrom) hidden upstairs in the toy area. I won't lie, I probably would have tried the same technique if I didn't have the necessary five bucks to take it home with me. But if I didn't have persistence that perky beauty wouldn't have come home with me and we all know that would have been a travesty.

Honestly, for housewares I think the average thrifter has every reason to come here with optimism if they're looking for something different (be it funky or retro). Clothing can be a bit trickier if you are looking for something in particular. This predicament can be multiplied by the lack of dressing rooms. Prethrifting plans to be considered include knowing your size in many different conversions (EU, Italian, American designer, standard American and the "You're Doing this to make me feel better" sizing of Old Navy) or tight fitting clothing. However, if you have little ones consider coming here for some cute, non commital clothing for them to wear/ potentially destroy. Worth a look see and a potential ten dollar budget. Something to consider while prowling the Mission.

I could spend hours here!  Thrift Town is two levels of bargains and shopping fun.

Saturday's finds included two Oakland Raiders glasses (my husband's a fan) for 69 cents each.  Other things I saw but didn't buy:  a high chair shaped like a Panda, picture frames with photos still inside, amateur oil paintings.

If I lived nearby, I'd probably come here every day.

This place is huge! With such a huge selection, its tough to not find stuff you love. I was so surprised at the types of things they sell, not only clothes but toys, books, movies, decorations, everything! I went towards the end of a thrifting adventure one day, having been thoroughly let down by Mission Thrift, and was totally unprepared. I ended up with a couple cute shirts and this ahhhhmazing...umm how do I describe this? Green ceramic camel made out of broccoli. Best purchase everrr.

Wowie! Glad I stopped in here.
It's huge and has just about anything you're looking for. I was alone, so it gave me plenty of time to browse. I now know where I'll be heading if I'm ever bored and have some free time.

The book section/selection is great, along with the random magazines.
I didn't buy anything from the kitchen section, but there was so much to choose from if need be.

Can't wait to go back and waste time while finding great deals. ^_^

Once you get pass the grumpy and non-smiling employees in the front...

    THE FUN BEGINS! :D :D

It's really all just a treasure hunt through racks of clothing that's all color coordinated. There's a "Uniform" section in the Men's area and I found a BART operator uniform there last week. I thought that was pretty funny.

I picked up a Salvatore Ferragamo vintage jacket for 2.99 and a silk dark green shirt for 1.99

    It's surprising clean too! :)

They have a lot of stuff.... not as organized as it could be.  Relatively clean.
