two floors of t-shirt bliss.
the store is extremely clean and screens sit atop each shelf, showing models wearing each tee. the employees are extremely friendly, are open to any inquiries, and the store exclusively uses imacs. awesome.
i also really enjoy the fact that every time you return with their reusable bag, you get a dollar off your purchase. cute tote AND eco-friendly, too! well played, threadless.
as a sucker for clever tees, threadless knows what's up. AND they're cheap! you really can't beat that. i can't wait to hit up the warehouse next.
Chicago's own store of the future! How cool to have a clothing store that concentrates on one item: 100% cotton Graphic Tees. They're not just any t-shirt but instead have unique prints that are cute, humorous and fashionable all at the same time. I absolutely loved the computer screen displays with real people wearing each shirt on the shelf. And to have blog comments about each t-shirt, even cooler! The artsy fartsy store's facade made of Threadless tags is truly ingenious (see a photo in business photos). Oh and not only do they make shirts but they also recreate their graphics into decals for walls! Check out the Blik designs.
P/S: The little quarter machine selling small pins is awesomely hipster!
Visiting a friend in Chicago, he off-handedly mentioned this store which, to me, only exists in the ether of the Intertubes. But the retail store is REAL, maybe even real-tail. Whoa, that conjures the wrong image, sorry.
I digress. Very clean, simple layout here with 20 or so of the newest designs. The clerk is super nice and fun, the bathroom is even worth checking out (they have a toilet brush with "I love poo water" written on it).
Overall a great stop, fun trip into reality from the electronic world to which I had been accustomed with Threadless.
When Threadless opened here a couple years ago, I was psyched! Funny, cool T-shirts at a reasonable price (try to go when there are sales, though), attractively arranged in the store. There is also a space upstairs for artwork... but I feel that could be better used to display more merchandise since the store IS pretty tiny and crowded. I need to go back soon and pick up some new shirts!
Whoo!!! 9/9/09 sale!!! I got three t-shirts here, 2 for me, 1 for the boyfriend.... Total: $29.77 including stupid sales tax!!!
I love a clever t-shirt. But I love them even more when it's only 9 bucks for a high quality clever t-shirt, which was sold to me by the nicest employees. Deal! I heart Threadless!!!
I really wanted to fall in love with this store and their cool hipster designs, but the quality just sucks. I bought a shirt there, wore it twice and washed as instructed, and it had a major hole in the armpit area. Of course, I'd lost the receipt by then *sigh*...not to mention you could see through the t-shirt since the material was so low quality and paper thin. I will definitely not purchase from here again.
Note: This review is only for the physical store.
-------------
I made my first visit to this store before I even moved to Chicago and now that I'm here, I'm a regular visitor. This place is great!
Threadless allows artists to submit their t-shirt print ideas online where they're judged by other website visitors. Those that rise to the top are honored by being printed on a t-shirt. As such, it's a great way to support independent artists.
A new line of shirts is available (I believe) every Monday, so if nothing catches your eye on one visit, try again the next week. If you do make a purchase (prices usually range from $8 - $18), they give it to you in a nice reusable bag. Bring the bag with you on your next visit and you'll save $1 on your next purchase.
The only negative thing I can say about the store is that the physical location has a rather small selection of maybe 20 or so prints at a time. However, their website (http://threadless.com) has a huge selection of their older prints available for purchase. The store even has a computer set up so you can browse their online collection and make a purchase while you're there.
Um, awesome?
Threadless shirts are awesome online - I've definitely bought a half dozen before ever coming to the store - and to see that concept faithfully executed in a retail store is super sweet. Considering that most real-world brick-and-mortar clothing stores sell T-shirts that are a fraction of the coolness of most Threadless tees for twice as much, it's a real T-shirt lovers paradise -- definitely a worthwhile stop if you're in the area although of course you can get all the same tees online and not pay 10.25% sales tax.
Bonus: shirts come in awesome re-usable Threadless bags. Nice.
I feel like this place is definitely ok, they have some fantastic and funny tshirts and witty personality supplements. But the quality of their shirts have just been ok. They do have fantastic tshirt sales that you can't beat (but of course priced accordingly to which tshirts you actually want versus .. the $5 ones. Shipping is a bit of a pain and I feel like you're waiting quite a bit for some information regarding your order and even the order confirmation email when most places come ASAP.
Also their hoodies, for the kind of saying, is a little expensive for the quality since I expect my hoodies to be extremely warm and fuzzy / thick on the inside and it's a little bit thin. Otherwise I wouldn't hesitate to order for them again pending another sale.
I could live here, just pile up a bunch of the cool t-shirts in a corner and I'm good. The staff is awesomely fun, most likely high school kids but smart. Between the art gallery upstairs and the music playing overhead it almost has everything... now if they only served drinks and food. It really does have the best graphic tees around!!! I guarantee that you can always find something between their stores and website, if you can't, you suck and I don't like you anyways for proving me wrong.
The website is full of all kinds of things besides selling tees, you can purchase wall art and paintings, you can submit your own art work and get paid for it, and if your work is accepted you can even choose a scholarship program. From $9 to $18 a tee how can you go wrong, plus they change design once a week, I know ONCE A WEEK it's crazy.
Threadless, home of the most fun shirts ever, because they are original designs by original people.
I really like their store on Broadway and every single person I've met in there has been just awesome.
However, online ordering is still the highlight for me. It's easy to navigate around their website, quick to order, and just plain fun to check out their newest designs from the comfort of your home. Plus, the shirts are delivered right to your doorstep when they said they would be, sometimes even sooner, which is totally awesome!
Let me tell you about their latest promotion they're having. Threadless is doing some "spring cleaning" which is a lovely thing for us frugal consumers. They have Tees as low as $5 and if you spend $45 or more with UPS Ground included, shipping is free! Yes F-R-E-E! I couldn't believe it and stocked up on some of these delicious shirt deals myself. You should do the same too while this promotion lasts because on March 30th you'll be SOL.
P.S. Whenever I wear one of these fantastic shirts out in public, people always ask me where I got it at and I proudly say "Threadless!"
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!
I've never been to the store but recently bought a couple shirts from their ($5) sale!! YAY. They had their promotion of if you buy $45 bucks worth, shipping is F-R-E-E, free! However me and a friend could only buy $30 bucks worth, and shipping for us was ~7.40 so that was still cool. Considering how we got 6 shirts for $37.40, that is HELLA cheap! Cute and funny shirts, some printed on American Apparel shirts - my my! SO COOL!! I effing love you threadless!! x333
And such easy money too - if you have lots of connections of course - if your submitted design gets chosen or a slogan is printed, you get MUCHO dinero! We're talking in the hundreds to thousands here! More info at http://www.threadless.com
That is a fantastic Lincoln Tee. My goodness... with dueling pistols labelled North and South? http://www.threadless.... I'll take two!
Shhhhh.... this may be too dweebalicious for belief but I am a closet Civil War buff. I get it from my Dad, who is an amateur Lincoln historian and always collected libraries of literature on the subject. I would correct my teachers openly in class mid-lecture.
Dad is hard to shop for. You can't give him just any old book with General Grant on the cover- and Delores Kearns Goodwin's Team of Rivals (hardback, signed, personalized, first edition) was already given to him a few years back. This is perfect. It is better than perfect, because the nice salesgirl also gave me a gift box and a re-useable tote bag that is not only good for the environment, but will give me $1 off all future purchases.
Love it. My Dad will love it more!
Great staff and great shirts! There was like a six month time span when all I had was threadless shirts and now I'm SOOOOO close to their store! I love it so much sometimes it's scary!
As t-shirts go, Threadless is totally as good as it gets.
There is a physical store, yes. But have you been to the warehouse?! It's like 10 minutes from the store and they have every shirt on the website available, right at your fingertips. Or at the fingertips of the receptionist.
And I know that the warehouse shows up when you do a search for Threadless, but no one has reviewed it and I sure didn't notice it. I would never have found this mecca of t-shirts had someone not told me personally. So, for all of the other non-observant t-shirt lovers out there, here you go.

You just buzz in and the nice lady at the front desk will escort you to a computer. Then you buy your stuff just like you would normally, online and from home, but then she just goes and gets your shirts. Maybe everyone else already knows about this t-shirt warehouse phenomenon, but it was new and exciting news to me. I went nuts. No shipping?!?! YES, PLEASE!!!
Chicago is a city of wonder. Ahhhh. I think I'm in love.
LOVE this website.
Their hoodies are so comfortable and I can wear them in the middle of the day or night without being too cold or warm.
The cute and quirky designs always grab my attention and those around me. I always get asked every so often where I get my hoodies/t-shirts. Shipping is quick and never have had a problem.
Best thing of all is when they have their sales and I stock up on the t-shirts.
Such a great concept, wish I had thought of it first.

Yea! Hooray!
Was just contacted my a Threadless customer service rep who told me she, too, realized the quality had gone down the tubes and they had stopped working with that manufacturer and were printing all new designs on AA tees again. Woohoo!
Oh, Threadless, you've won me over once again. Great customer service offered store credit for all my crappy tees and a $5 coupon to boot!
Still a message of warning if you're shopping online to make sure the designs you're buying are printed on AA tees, not any of the old ones because they're still selling them, I believe (though I guess I understand that since they'd take a huge hit if they just threw them all away).
Whew, glad my break-up with Threadless is over. It was a painful and scary period in my life.
Time to do some more shopping!

BOOOOO!
HISSSSS!
This was my favorite shop for t-shirts ever! I seriously averaged about 10 every year, I think.
The designs are still awesome and the artists are great. It's the t-shirts that have made me decide I'm never going back. They used to sell awesome, well-made t-shirts from american apparel. Before Christmas they switched to their own t-shirts, I think. I asked for 3 girly medium shirts for Xmas and my birthday and the quality of the new shirts is COMPLETE CRAP!
I'm totally not one to need a name brand on my clothing, but unraveling hems after one wash? Are you kidding me? I would GLADLY pay a higher price for a shirt that's not going to get all deformed and so thin you can see through the fabric.
I am so sad.
Even with their mega sales online. Why pay $5 for a shirt you can only wear once (if you're lucky and you don't mind the weird collar and fit).
So long, Threadless, you've lost me, all my friends and the many shirts I buy each year as gifts.

Love, love LOVE Threadless! I've only been in the store once, but I recommend shopping online… Read more »
I absolutely love Threadless! I love the concept of having artists create original t-shirt designs and paying them for it. I love the voting, I love the store & the art gallery space above it. Also their warehouse on Ravenswood is also pretty cool. You can pick up your shirt there if it's no longer in the retail shops.
And in response to Josh who complained about the submission package not working on a Mac - that is completely untrue. You have to have the design programs in order for the package to work. If you have Adobe Flash, Photoshop or Illustrator the submission packet works just fine. I have a Mac and also know that they use Macs as a company too. And if they decline for it being too pixelated, it's probably because the image is too grainy and wouldn't end up printing well. They try to keep a high standard of design and thousands of people are able to submit each week without a problem.
Either way - I love threadless & their type tees and would recommend them to anyone. They are funny, artistic, show personality and support artists both local and nationwide.
I stumbled into this store and fell in love with it! While not a huge store, Threadless has a decent selection of t-shirts with unique designs for both guys and ladies. The LCD's with info about each individually t-shirt design and the artist was a great feature. The staff was very attentive and the free re-usable bag was yet another wonderful about this place.
The website does have more offerings, but the store is still something to experience.
Perhaps I'm too new school, but I don't get the point of having a real world location.
Look, I love Threadless shirts -- in fact, I'm wearing one right now. In fact, during T-shirt weather I probably have one on 4 out of 7 days a week. But considering there are only about 20 shirts in the store a week, and selling them in the retail location doesn't really add anything to the Threadless experience, I just don't get it.
Still, I visited, picked up two shirts and was off. I like the discount they give for using their reusable tote, but otherwise, I'll stick to http://Threadless.com for now.
Their submissions package is full of things their either don't open or don't work on a normal Mac system
And even if you do create a file that's the right number of pixels, they can decline it for being 'pixellated'.
How does that make any sense?
It makes sense if they just don't do things things the way they say they do them.
That's how.
Enjoy your T-shirts of teary-eyed clowns and dogs playing poker.
If you're not seeing them yet, you will.
Holy Crap! I just ordered a few t-shirts online yesterday at 1:00p, and they arrive today by 10:30a. That's less than a 24 hour turn-around time, and I only paid for standard shipping.
I was originally planning on going to the physical store to pick up a few holiday gifts, but their online selection was so huge and cheap (basically everything cost $5 - 15) that I just shopped from my desktop. After factoring in $0 tax and a $3 coupon code I found on RetailMeNot, it probably came out the same or less to shop online than in-store.
Now I'm hooked. I love so many of the designs, and they are incredibly affordable. Wish I could wear t-shirts to work!
Makes a great gift - unique designs for every personality, and it seems like you spent more than you did!
Pretty awesome.
I discovered http://Threadless.com a year or two ago on the men's shopping blog, Uncrate, and was taken back by their selection of display art. During that time, I've been stalking Threadless, waiting for the right time to take the plunge.
There were one or two pieces that I would have definitely pulled the trigger on, but they sold out before I got a chance to. A couple months ago, I saw the cutest piece, perfect as an anniversary present for my gf (check out the uploaded pic).
Sure, it's big, 3x4 feet, and expensive. They charge $250 for the painting, and about $100 for shipping. I had it delivered to my work. It was secured in two layers of cardboard and arrived in good shape, painted on a somewhat heavy, yet yet flexible material, something between cardboard and particle board.
Then I had to mount the thing. Luckily there's a place nearby that framed it (another $180), and I think it came out pretty nicely.
I don't plan to buy a lot of art, but it's nice to know that I got something that's hip, one-of-a-kind, and made an awesome present.
I also hear this place also sells T-shirts.
I heart Threadless!
Not been to the store itself, but am a regular on their site. I dig that the designs are submitted by anyone. The quality of the shirts and hoodies are superb. The sizing is spot on, for both men and women. If I could change one thing, it would be some of the color choices for the shirts... usually though, the design is awesome enough I go ahead and just deal with the bright mustard yellow tee shirt color.
http://Threadless.com ... what would my closet be without you?
I probably own far too many Threadless t-shirts.
No, make that definitely. Like, I have well over 10 of them. So many, in fact, that I wore my CTRL+Z shirt as a sleep tee the other night. WAIT, seriously, threadless shirts being relegated to sleep tees? What about all those shitty thick-enough-to-take-your-hide-off Hanes beefy tees from all of those ludicrous functions in college? Aren't THOSE supposed to be the sleep tees?!!
But ANYWAY, Threadless tees. I get them for myself, I get them as gifts ('It's something from Chicago!,' I say, to myself and the recipients, to excuse this behavior). They're soft. Cute. I gravitate more toward the ironic or humorous ones than the artsy ones, but it's all preference, man.
I'll admit that like other new-schoolers I primarily do the ordering online, but the bricks & mortar shop is cute as a boot and on that fun stretch of Broadway where there's all sortsa fun stuff. Their window display alone, I think, is worth stopping by and checking out.
They also have some good looking, friendly, vaguely hipsterish employees which add some much-appreciated eye candy to the neighborhood.
High Concept, low inventory and prices...a Gap for those whose workplaces don't require a collar, a statement for those who need their t-shirts to make their introductions. Do you know how ironic I am? Look at my wicked design sense! I have amazing taste. I am funny. I am slightly sad and I like cute monsters.
I like the reusable bags and the discounts they give for using them. How do I know? Because I bought three shirts, gave two away. And kept the one that says I'm an audiophile. Because nothing says audiophile like a t-shirt with a record on it. Because records are very old school. And old school is audiophile.
cheeky t-shirts to match my cheeky personality. awesome.
it really can't get any better than this... can it? BUT IT CAN!! with threadless' ridiculous inventory cleaning sale [happens after a season or so] their regularly priced tshirts [usually about $18 dollars] goes on SALE [and you know how much i LOVELOVELOVE sales!] to $5!!!!
i love that there's so many different designs to choose from. i usually get their t-shirts but they also sell hoodies and long sleeve shirts. they even have kids sizes! designs are updated frequently, so you never get bored, and i swear that they have designs that would fit everyone.
since i order my stuff online, shipping is always prompt- i don't like paying extra, so i usually receive my stuff within 1 week or less. haven't had a disappointment yet :D
The concept of this place is awesome with the art and t-shirts and seems to be working, but I have to agree with Deanna M. and Maeve P.
I was looking at their collection online on a day I had some spare time obviously and just went pages and pages back. I found like a total of 3 shirts that I liked, which none were available because they were all older styles.
I have always liked random t-shirts with random sayings or pictures on them, not "oh that's ironic" ..but more so sayings or pictures that pertain to my life someway. Music, records..etc.
My friend's husband works for Threadless and she totally hates the clothes. She gets them for free and would give them to our boss because they would just sit around her house.lol.
I bought a shirt there yesterday which I am sure I will see like 10 other people wearing in the neighborhood because it was in the window and they are having the 9 dollar sale.
I always like the art upstairs for sure, but most of their shirts I just don't like. I looked around for a bit and just decided on the shirt that I already knew I wanted.
The one I bought I really liked and even wore it to Smartbar last night. It is only the 2ND shirt that I've ever bought there. The first one I gave to my friend since it was an impulse buy and I never wore it.
The women's shirts were printed American Apparel. The medium fit me to a perfect Tee.
Then they changed brands of their tees and I thought that the new fit sucked. Until I realized that I'm really a small with the new manufacturer. Yay! Gotta give them props for catering to my vanity of wanting to be the skinniest person in the room.
PS - thanks for bringing back the nerdy Darth Vader topiary tee. I can now go to the comix book store with my head held up high.

Alright, besides the pretty rockin' concept, cool t-shirts, friendly staff, promotion of local art and all around just being pretty rad...Threadless has topped itself in my book...
They are also an art gallery. No really, upstairs in the store there is a mini gallery...just the right size for my little ADD self to peruse for several minutes.
Also, you can have Threadless digs on your wall. At your house. No really...it's true. Blik makes wall graphics based on Threadless art now...check it out: http://whatisblik.com/...
Threadless is huge. And awesome...I gotta blik up my walls something fierce, I'm pumped.
I fell hard for Threadless. So Clever. So Witty. Fit so well.
I love the idea of the designs being submitted by artists and voted on. Check out their website, it gives more detail. They sell all styles on their website but only stock a few in their shop and rotate out weekly. Plus, they have great sales throughout the year.
As a person who generally loathes shopping, Threadless is actually pretty neat. they have a cute little gallery upstairs, and i love how everything that is for sale is set up in a very simple display with available sizes and prices. no more digging through racks of crap to find something you like- all 25 or so of the shirts they are selling will be right out there for your perusal. the staff is very friendly and unobtrusive, and they give out reusable bags that are good for $1 off your next purchase when you bring them back!
Did i mention the shirts are sweet too? Yay!
A t-shirt is most-definitely not just another t-shirt when you're buying from Threadless. They make t-shirts from some really creative submissions that come from anyone with a great idea.
I also like that they give you re-usable bags that you can bring back on your next purchase and save $1. The t's themselves are very soft and soooooooo comfy to wear.
My only complaint is that when I go shopping I usually end up finding 5 or 6 t's that I want when I really intended to buy 1. Okay, so not really a complaint, per se...
Staff is friendly and I love the monitors with pics of people wearing the shirts. They carry a variety of sizes for both men and women, so everyone can own a piece of the humorous splendor that is Threadless.
Pretty sweet presentation of the goods, simple and smart. Having an LCD screen for each of the shirts is unique and allows them to switch them up easily and even provide user generated comments. The prices are relatively cheap compared to a lot of other spots that offer mediocre shirts at $20+ a pop...
This store is totally sweet.
LCD's that display names of shirts and designs.
An art gallery upstairs.
Fun music.
Clean atmosphere.
They even have onesies for babies.
I first learned about Threadless by reading everyone's reviews on here. I'm happy to say that I was not disappointed when I went into the store.
First, I have to hand it to the people who were working in the store. They were polite and friendly. In fact, they even pulled out a cup of water for my friend's dog! (PS: Love the fact that dogs are allowed in the store.)
Second, I do agree that there is a limited shirt selection, but that's why they have the .com. The layout of the store was pretty nifty and I liked the LCD monitors they had above each shirt.
Third, they are having a sale. Don't know how long its lasting, but how great it is to go into the store for the first time and get 3 shirts for under $40? Better yet, $1 off the next purchase if I bring back the cloth bag (which I've already been using for other things).
Finally, visited the upper part of the store where I got too many free stickers from Timbuk2. I need to save up my money so I can design my own bag there.
I'll definitely be back at this store again. As my friend told me, "You're going to be in big trouble if they really do change out their shirts every week."
I own too many shirts from this store, but they are so great. I just buy new ones and rotate out the old when I see stuff I like. The staff in the store is friendly and helpful. They have a deal where you get $1 off for bringing back your bag. To be honest I have several bags now because I usually don't plan my visits, they just happen. On my last visit they kindly gave me the dollar off when I said I didn't need a bag because I already had one and just didn't have it with me.
My advice: stay away. You can't go in just to look. I guarantee if you go in you will buy something. IT'S DANGEROUS!
Hey! You!
Do you want to pay too much for t-shirts that are SO IRONIC that at some point they make a conceptual U-turn and STOP BEING IRONIC?
This is the place for you, pal!
By far - my favorite t-shirt source! Personally my "nuts" shirt gets me the most compliments and of course the "infinity mileage" since being on a bike is the way to go.
Decent quality, awesome designs and its sweet when walking down the street in Seattle and someone comes up to you and says "threadless?" Its like we know a secret...but it shouldn't be a secret...Threadless rocks.
My only regret is missing out on " a Salt and Battery" I snooze I loose...
Absolutely, without a doubt, one of my favorite things in the entire world.
I love the entire concept. I love the prices. I love the customer service. I love the t-shirts on sale! I even think the personal profile section is cool, too.
I first discovered Threadless through a designer friend who had submitted a piece for a contest. That's when I was hooked. I wanted all the cool designs I saw, but somehow managed to pick out just one t-shirt for me and one for my brother for Christmas. He absolutely loved it!
I've since returned and found many other designs I want. I love how you can ask to be updated when something comes back in stock. That was the case recently, and I jumped at the offer - for Threadless is the perfect place to find original and cool designs and comfy t-shirts for not only myself but also my friends and family. It's also one of the ONLY places to find gifts for somebody with discerning taste who appreciates unique art and style.
They even have t-shirts for kids now!
Word to the wise: Sign up for their enewsletter. You'll be kept in-the-know and be one of the first people to learn about new designs, contests and discounted prices. I loved their spring cleaning sale. Rock on!
