I find this place pretty good. The menu is a little small, but for what its going for that makes sense. The upper scale atmosphere feels slightly out of place in humble little Robbinsdale, but its not unwelcome or snobbish.
I went here a while back with my girlfriend at the time to celebrate something or other, and we had shrimps and wine and overall it was a delicious, enjoyable experience. Its not necessarily the type of restaurant I would find myself at all the time, but its a good addition to Robbinsdales adorable little downtown strip.
Wow. That sums it up.
The only other word I could use is "Delicious".
Thistle's had one of the friendliest environments I have seen in a long time. The host and the server were excellent, even offering personal favorites for recommendation.
The prices were more than acceptable considering the food was perfect and the server was so friendly we tipped him $30 on a $50 bill.
As they say on eBay: Great Seller. Would buy again. A++++++++++++++++
I had brunch there today. I was happy to hear that a screwdriver, bloody mary or a mamosa were all $2! The menu had your typical brunch stuff, however, no fruit option which I think was odd. Regardless, the food was good and the price was right. We did struggle with either too many plates or too small of a table. The friendly staff helped us balence all our options. I'd go back.
Great addition to Robbinsdale. Lovely food, simple wine list, great dinner specials
A a weeknight, when you are in NO mood to cook - go here instead of plain ol' Applebees.
I have eaten here many times, I would to say the meals are pretty good, some things better then others but its a nice restaurant close to home I have to say two thumbs up. Plus the prices are reasonable and you get a full plate.
I have taken advantage of the "half price bottles of wine" on many Tuesdays and the $8 home cooked meal on Thursdays you can't go wrong.
They have a great Breakfast for a great price and on Valentines day we had 16 people there and the staff was great, really took care of our big group on a busy night. I didn't like that they changed the menu for the Valentine's which was much more pricey then normal but I think all restaurants do that on that famous hallmark holiday!
Try it you may see me there sometime.
Take note, I am actually going to agree with E.B. on something. Whoa.
Ok, so what that we HAD to go here because my supervisor is retiring and this was the place that was picked for today's festivities (probably because it's only two blocks away and it's not Taco Johns.) I was actually kind of looking forward to it because one, all my coworkers in one place eating? Always priceless. Two, I had tuna salad and crackers waiting for me at work as my other lunch option. Finally, I've only had fast food here in Robbinsdale and to be able to try something "upscale" for a change is always good.
I've had a billion ceasar salads at super classy places - it's my standby when I want to eat the $30 entree but don't want to feel like such a fatass once the meal is over. Besides, I actually really, really like ceasar salad. You want to know what else I really, really like? Salmon. So the blackened salmon ceasar salad was a total no-brainer.
I would say that I wish that I had given the meal a little more thought, but considering I won't eat any other meat besides fish AND all of my co-workers weren't super impressed with their choices, it doesn't really matter. There was really no taste to the salad and that's about the best thing that I can say. I know that if I did have to pay for my meal here, I'd be super pissed.
Two stars because the waitress was amazing. There were 20 of us there and she was super fast and managed to keep the complaining to a small roar. I was concerned for her safety before we got there, believe me.
