Review from Deena L.
Berkeley, CA
"This into That" is a wonderful, unique use of books to create art objects that can be functional ( a shelf or table), artistic, fun & mentally stimulating.
Jim integrates his unique talents for writing, humor, woodworking & fine art to create specific pieces on personal themes,.
There is a bright, underlying wit & love of life that informs each piece.
These are creations that you can enjoy & live with for many years.
Jim's work celebrates the tactile beauty of books, bindings & paper in this virtual society. -
Review from Robin W.
I met Jim at the Berkeley Artists Open Studios event and have bought two pieces from him -- one then, and one at a fair afterward. I truly cannot think of another unique gift with as much meaning, whimsy and VALUE. If you're even semi-literate, or know someone who is, This Into That pieces are treasures at affordable prices.

Review from Kaaren D.
Newbury Park, CA
I found Jim, the artist, at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival. His unique blend of sculpture, and wit transforms ordinary objects and old books into shelves, and other works of art. Contact him and see where he will be displaying his work, or check out the website to see his innovative take on things we take for granted.

History
Established in 2002
Jim Rosenau has been building gorgeous and humorous shelves from old hardback books for 8 years. He is probably the only on who will take your old encyclopedias off your hands.
Meet the Business Owner: Jim R.
Jim Rosenau was raised in a house with 5,000 books. He has been making and selling thematic bookshelves from vintage books since 2002. The idea occurred to him years earlier after reading an essay, "Books As Furniture," by Nicholson Baker. Given his background as the son and grandson of publishers, he assumed the reaction, should he make such a thing, would be furious. The work, once underway, proved him wrong.
His book furniture has since earned him a wide following with work sold in almost 50 states and countries. Primarily shown at closely juried shows, he is also represented by dealers from Vermont to Los Angeles. The work has been widely published in print and on the Internet.
Previously, he has been a carpenter, comedy writer, editor, software developer, planning commissioner and designed and built parade floats. His writing has been published in Fine Homebuilding, The New Yorker, ReadyMade, Salon.com and heard on public radio. He lives and works in Berkeley, California.
