Review from Brett P.
My family and i had been to Theo's a long time ago and enjoyed our experience, so we chose it as the location to have my birthday party.
Overall our experience was mixed. The meal began well with soups and salads. I get lemon rice almost every time its available and i chose it to begin my meal. It was one of the better lemon rice soups that i had in a long time. Other guests seemed to enjoy their salads as well.
The entrees were a bit of a mixed bag. I went with a Cuban sandwich which has always been a favorite of mine. It wasn't bad, but it also wasn't good. The pork had some very large chunks of fat in it and the bread was heavily oiled. In addition, their barbecue sauce was heavily ketchup based and didn't taste like much else.
Others enjoyed their sandwiches and entrees except for my aunt. She had the chicken vesuvio. The dish looked very tasty, but she said it was so salty that she actually sent it back. That said, she is extremely fussy (aka a again in the butt) so i don't put a lot of stock in her review.
The waitstaff was prompt and courteous especially when dealing with my aunt which i appreciated.
All in all Theo's was ok, but i probably won't be rushing back. -

The traditional bread basket with a hot slcied loaf with their orange spread is dynamite. They have delicious tender tilapia and other fish selections. The service is familiar since its just around the block from my parents house.
They have a very zesty lemon rice soup served hot and smooth in texture. Creamy and extra lemon juice squeezed fresh over there soup is easy to eat. The manager is usually observing everyone and the hostesses and bar tenders are angels who made sure we were seated conveniently and comfortably in this elegant palace of a place. -

I would give this review 4*'s, but for one thing which I will explain later. Keep reading...
We went to Theo's on July 5th, my wife's birthday, and it was one of the few restaurants open! I'm not kiddin', I guess everyone wanted a three day weekend. +1 for being open...
Our appetizers came quickly they were delicious! We ordered the saganaki (Greek flaming cheese) and calamari. The calmari was cooked to perfection, and that can be hard to do if you've ever ordered calamari and had it not cooked so well. KEEP THAT IN MIND when you read further in the review...
The service was great! They were right on top of everything, and weren't pushy waiting for us to order. When we did order, the soup or salad came out timely and kept us occupied while we waited for our meals to be cooked. The busboy was on top of his game and knew exactly when to clean our plates or fill our water. +1
My mother-in-law had the lemon rice soup and she said, "This tastes funny... Maybe because you can taste the lemon!" I didn't have a chance to try it, but it had to have been freshly made. I did, however, have the French Onion soup and I made the same comment, probably because it was freshly made and tasted the way it should taste! +1
Now for the main course. My wife had the Porterhouse and it was cooked to perfection. She didn't add any sauce or anything to cover it up and loved every bite (that she could finish). My mother-in-law enjoyed her meal and everything was cooked correctly (I forget what she ordered). I had the lake perch (fried) and it was awesome! It wasn't heavy, the fish was flaky, and delicious!
And here's where they lose a star...
My father-in-law, not really a steak fan, ordered the Creole shrimp pasta something-or-other. It had saugsage (possibly andouille), and shrimp in it. I'm not kidding here... It was UNEDIBLE! At first I thought it was my father-in-law goofing around, but he wasn't. He tried to be polite. He didn't say anything. He ate what he could. Then he finally had me try a piece of shrimp (I LOVE SHRIMP!)... It was the most un-holy, undigestible, WTF-am-I-eating? UGH! I wanted to spit it out it tasted so bad! Did they forget to clean it? Was it the sauce? Seriously, I don't know how I swallowed it it was so bad!
My father-in-law was going to let it slide until they asked if he wanted it wrapped to take home. That's when he told them that it was the most disgusting thing he'd ever eaten. Sadly, I'd have to agree.
They didn't fuss about it. They immediately apologized and asked if he wanted something else to eat. They took his meal off the bill and apparently informed the owner, because he looked upset after this happened. +1
My wife wanted to try the carrot cake for dessert and it was definitely made for two people! 6 layers of deliciousness!!! We took that home and when we could finally find room to consume more food, we had dessert...
I have to believe that my father-in-law's meal was a fluke! Everything else was delicious and cooked to perfection!
The atmosphere was casual to business casual, and yes, it did appear to cater towards the blue-hairs, but that's okay. That's more my crowd anyway...
I will be back and I will give them another shot. Like I said, it had to be a fluke since everything else was right on! -

We were greated by the host with a smile. We sat down and then handed the extensive wine list. The server was knowledgeable about wine and menu. Ordered bone in ribeye. Juicy and cooked perfectly. My girlfriend had grouper with Greek sauce. Then desert , we got the carrot cake for two. It was huge could eat it for days. All in all great place for date nite.

We've been going here for years, 9 out of 10 times it's very good but then there's the tenth time (which we just had). Pretty poor meal.
My entree was fair -- had chicken something or other, the "vegetable" sides were awful -- looked like it had been reheated more than once. The double baked potato which is usually a standout was dry and unappealing. My husband had fish and it was nothing that you could not make at home. Broccoli was served that was brown -- noticeably brown and terribly wilted. I have no idea how they let that out of the kitchen. Waitresses are nice.
However, the don't miss at this restaurant are the homemade soups and salad dressings.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Maybe it's just because they serve cheese spread with the bread, but I really like Theo's.
You can EASILY make two meals out of a Theo's dinner. One meal includes lots of bread and cheese spread, lemon rice soup, and salad with blue cheese dressing (extra charge, but they lay it on THICK and include crumbles). Your next meal, that you take home, will consist of whatever entree you chose. For me, it's the broccoli/shrimp/scallop fettucine alfredo (or whatever it's called). It's a tasty fat/carb bomb with big seafood. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you receive.
The atmosphere is kind of old-person-y, yet sort of romantic. I've had one stellar waitress, and one annoying one who was old and didn't listen (couldn't hear?) and treated me like a child. -

Nice place, clean on the inside with good food at good prices. Took people there for a celebration and everybody got something different (NY Strip, Chicken Picatta, FIsh, Filet Mignon) and really enjoyed it.
They service is fast and efficient, thought I wouldn't term it friendly, which might or might not bother you.
My Filet was cooked to perfection, which unfortunately is hard to find these days. Their lemon rice soup is really good as well, in that you can actually taste the lemon. I'll definitely be back. -

We went to Theo's last night. We usually don't have this restaurant on our radar since it's in Highland and we're in southern Lake county and gas is over $ 4 a gallon. However, we did have a gift certificate and felt we ought to give it a try. It was a great "risk" we'd easily take again.
We only had one of our kids with us (the other two ditched us for friends...YIKES! TEENAGERS!) when we got there she was offered the kids' menu. Normally, she would shun a kids' menu. Being 11 yrs old puts her right at the corner of "I want more than grilled cheese" and "No, thanks, I'm not interested in the fresh lobster". She scanned it and then tossed it on the side and focused on the "grown up" menu. (Smarty couldn't help but laugh when she saw the vegetarian section and how you can "add chicken" to the meal for an additional cost, thus defeating the idea of vegetarian!). She ended up with the kids' fried shrimp with fries. It came with a salad and I believe our awesome server (KATE!!!) was smart enough to realize that kids don't eat onions, so her salad didn't have any. Very perceptive and good call. The shrimp was not your basic kids' popcorn shrimp. They were beautifully butterflied and lightly breaded and fried to perfection. She loved it.
My husband had the perch. It came with both a salad and soup. Side was a baked potato. It was all awesome. Perfect balance of texture and flavor. (Any locals would understand this statement: It could easily give Teibel's a run for their money on competition for tasty perch!) Portion was huge, and we carted some of it home.
I had the shrimp with scallop fettucine. It was really good! It also came with both soup and salad. I had the seafood vegetable soup. Huge portions of crabmeat and tender vegetables....YUM! I could have eaten just that and been a happy clam. The portion of the pasta dish was huge, and I took most of it home. The seafood was seasoned just right and the alfredo sauce was thick, rich and awesome....just as it should be!
After dinner, our daughter needed to investigate the desserts. Kate brought us a tray LOADED with everything from an Exploded Brownie, to Freshly Made Banana Cake to Tiramisu. The Greek standard Baklava was on the tray as was Atomic Cake, Turtle Cheesecake, Traditional Cheesecake, and Chocolate Layer Cake. (They were all underpriced at
$ 5.00 each we later saw on our bill. HUGE SLICES AND HOMEMADE TASTE!!) Hubby snagged the banana cake and daughter ordered the turtle cheesecake. Fresh beyond belief!
We will definitely visit Theo's again. It was a great atmosphere, fantastic service, and outstanding food. Totally worth the trip! -

My partner took me here for Valentine's Day this year. As the two star rating indicates Meh. I've definitely experienced better. I had the steak medium rare but it was over cooked. It's supposed to be a steak house and they can't cook a medium rare filet :( This is just another place that is recommended b/c it's a little higher priced than most places in the area. As you fellow Yelper's know price is NOT always an indication of a quality meal. In the end, neither the food nor the service at this place are worth the price. If you are trying to be a fine dining restaurant you must step up your game. Needless to say Valentine's day was our first and last visit.

Went for an early dinner, around 4:30. Took someone who means the world to me whom I'd like to get back in my life. Yesterday was her birthday which I forgot like I've done more often than not over the years. She understood. She actually laughed which is a good thing. Unfortunately I suggested this place. What a mistake.
Place was near empty. Seated promptly. Waitress was totally inept. Forgot my salad. Forgot her bearnaise. There appeared to be as much wait staff as diners yet she was MIA all the while we were there.
She order a filet, medium. Came out rare. Sent it back. Came back medium rare/ rare. She kept it as she was starving. She only ate about half of it. Her side of rice pilaf sat there while she waited for her steak to return. Stone cold now.
I order a shrimp cocktail. $10 bucks for 5 medium shrimp. Bland, runny sauce. Ketchup would have been better. I also ordered a double baked potato. I swear it was Or-Ida! Honestly. The sour cream came in a sealed little container like you'd get butter or syrup at McDonalds or BK. I ordered a bone-in ribeye medium rare. Much closer to rare. I ate half & brought the rest home to season & finish cooking. A lot of fat. I'll never go back. I would understand if the place was busy but this was ridiculous.
We are in the Hessville section of Hammond. Nothing nearby worth going to since Freddy's went to hell, so Theo's it was. She agreed because we couldn't come up with another place within 20 minutes for a steak. Neither of us have been there since it became Theo's. Without drinks it was $75! Way overpriced for the *hit service & food we got. Next time I'll take her to Gino's in Dyer or Taco Real. For $40 at Taco Real we would have had a feast. Never been disappointed there. God why didn't I think of them! I'm gonna be pissed for days!!! -

With a lead from frank over at ''TOP DOG GROOMING'' OVER ON 45 TH ST.
We had two choices for the evening thanks to frank whom i have never met or have done business with . His suggestion was this is the place for a good high end meal . WE were very happy . I took the veal picatta . and the old lady ''birthday girl '' took the crab legs . to make a long story short . the service was great . the busboy knew when to pick up . the food was great about 14-16 crab legs full ,cleaned on the side all you had to do was pick out the meat . drawn butter . the meat was sweet and moist the butter was clear no BS . the veal was perfect white mushroom's cooked but firm not a bad thing to say about Theo's . The price was just right for two people . I always get nervous when it sez market price .not here . a table next to us had the crab legs . then a couple asked .were the legs as good as they looked ? all four people said yes . that is why we came here .so If you have a few extra bucks to up grade skip red slobster and see Theo's excuse me Iam in a food coma. -

Went here in May to celebrate our 2nd anniversary and we had a great dinner . We had steak and some seafood appetizers and everything was really delicious. Each dinner includes a bunch of sides so you get your bang for your buck here. We both left with doggie bags. The prices are reasonable.

My boyfriend and I went here recently for his birthday. The service was pretty good and my boyfriend enjoyed his food. It was very quiet on the Tuesday night we went and we got a booth in a private area which was nice and kind of romantic. I got fish and it was good, but it had more than 5 bones left in it, which bugged me. My salad also had a hair in it which grossed me out. I'd consider going back, but I would definitely not get the fish again.
