I am a slow learner in love with muay thai and trained at 3 different facilities. Another one in LA, then 2 months in northern Thailand and then the Yard for a month while I was in town.
Mark really knows his craft!! And so do all the other Krus there (I haven't had as much of an opportunity to work with them yet but looking forward to it). First of all, Mark immediately picked up on my weak points. The same problem areas other trainers have commented on. That made me feel comfortable and confident. He thought outside the box and started helping me correct some of my issues day 1! It was awesome!
This is the man you want in your corner if you are thinking about really getting into the sport. Not to mention everyone at the gym is so thoughtful and willing to work with me!! I love that! Can't wait to go back to LA and keep working.
$120/ month unlimited training. Any time you want. I know that sounds odd but you will see, there is ALWAYS someone there to warm up with and train with. Just go with it lol
Now I get to go back to my blahhh UFC gym in Chicago. welp!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Joe D.Los Angeles, CA94423Feb 28, 2024

I've dropped in about 5 times and it's my favorite place to train Muay Thai. I'm new to combat sports and Yoshi has transformed my technique by leaps and bounds. Of course other students will receive instruction during the sessions but practicing and implementing the training Yoshi provided steadily increases my capability. The yard was recommended to me by the shop owner where I bought my fighting gear and I would recommend it to anyone serious about learning Muay Thai

Great place for a workout, and to learn fundamental Muay Thai techniques. The teacher Yoshi is very helpful and patient with new students. Very welcoming community, definitely a great place to come if you're just starting out or an advanced practitioner!

If you are a beginner do not go to this place they will not give u the time of day. Would not recommend this place. The guy teaching is rude. Not worth it, save your money.

The classes are a perfect size and the people there are great to work with. Yoshi is very helpful and teaches a great class. Joe is a gd champion so why tf not. There is nothing better than finishing a class and feeling like your home. Great place to be and I'm glad I'm back!

I have been coming to The Yard for about a year now and I'll fully admit that I'm completely addicted now. Hands down, the best martial arts gym I have ever been to. The environment is amazing; most people who have been coming for a while leave their egos behind and help everyone out at every level. All the instructors are extremely personable and willing to give you the attention and proper critiques.
Personally, I have made this place my second home and enjoy every minute I'm there. I get along with most of the regulars that show up and look forward to going in as often as I can.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Arman F.Chicago, IL5032Oct 4, 2021
Super homey, A-class instruction and ambience. Not unusual to see high level UFC standouts mixing it up with everyday hobbyists. Great place to get in shape and learn practical skills. Joe is the man and one of the realest in the business. Definitely recommend as your first stop for Muay Thai if you're in the LA area

Really wanted to like this place since its close to my house, but never felt less welcomed by an instructor. I walked in and the Asian guy with tattoos that's running the class barely looks up long enough from his phone to mumble "here fill this out" and hands me a waiver. That's the only time I was spoken to by him. Never said hi, asked my name, gave me pricing info or asked my experience level. Luckily I've trained before or I would have been really lost. We warm up for a long time, maybe 30-40 minutes, before we put gloves on. We then do some very simple bag work. Weirdly enough we do no mitt or Thai pad work. My partner at the bag was a beginner and was kicking and punching wrong, but the instructor couldn't be bothered to step in and correct him. Then we did some basic partner drills, like 1, 2, kick. Then sparred for a few rounds. All the other students I interacted with were very nice and helpful. Not the place you want to go to if you're a beginner. With so many good gyms in LA find one with a bit more enthusiasm for helping new students.
