when i see two eighty year old men with their own personal beer cozies, a toothless indian with a crutch, and a 40 year old woman that looks like my grandfather...i know i'm gonna like it.

cheap beer, pool, ping-pong, a library, a stage, shuffleboard and darts. one can safely say that the Wreck has got it all.

it's really making me consider a summer house in Lake Elsinore.

if you ever breeze into that city, you're gonna want to get to know this place.

A true dive in every sense of the word.  Cheap, strong drinks, one or two local addicts and no frills.  They had chili dogs for sale when we were there, and no, I didn't have the stones to try one.

This bar needs to be recognized as some sort of national landmark for the daytime drunks of america. Do you love drinking? You've found your mecca.

First off, this place is HUGE. They have pool tables, ping pong, card tables (though I've never actually seen anyone use them for that purpose), one of those stupid claw machines that you inevitably end up wasting all your quarters on, a semi-decent jukebox (considering it's a dive bar in Elsinore), and, the piece de resistance... a library! Yes, there is actually a little raised platform in the corner, with chairs, lamps, and shelves fully stocked with books, mostly of the romantic and western novel varities.

The front portion is where the actual bar is, which is quite small considering the size of the establishment. (There is a second bar in the large back room where the ping pong tables are located, but it's no longer in use.) The bartenders are super friendly, even to newbies, and will welcome you as a regular after just a few visits. The drinks are cheap & strong, and snacks (gas station fare like chips & candy) are available.

You could live at the Wreck if you wanted to... and believe me, you'll want to. Despite it's size and amenties (a library!!!), it still manages to retain the dark, musty, close-knit atmosphere of any good dive. It's the type of place where, when you order a Vodka Cran, the bartender pours the juice out of an economy sized jug of Ocean Spray. And while I used to curse the fact that such a gem is confined to Lake Smellsinore, I've come to embrace it's out-of-town locale. At least it's a way to ensure you'll be drinking along side Elsinore old timers and not Silverlake hipsters, right?

I have a Aunt in Lake Elsinore and when I visited 3 years ago I stopped in here and wow it is a dive but the bartender was nice and the drinks were good, a bit rough to say the least.  The mexicans gave my wife dirty looks and the bathroom was out of a horror movie but I have to say it was unique.  My Aunt used to come here in the 70's back then it was the place to be I guess.  A lot different, Hah!

ernie milleman hangs out there, and ernie is a superstar:  veteran of the seventies in north whittier,  and the brother of monte welk, superstar.  while in the wreck, buy ernie a cocktail and ask him about the ramones.  he'll know monte sent you. ..seriously, a fine place to get drunk.  and a proud family tradition since 1988!
