Great selection of small production wines. They even have George! Very friendly staff. They do tastings of 4 wines, most of which were pretty good. They also have a reserve room with some high offerings. No cheap wine here, but lots of the good stuff. Nice place.

This store has changed owners around October 2010. I just went back and unfortunately the new management is not nearly as good as the old. They're less knowledgable about the area and are selling more expensive, better known wines.
Still enjoyable, but a real loss for us oenophiles I'm afraid.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Who would dare serve a warm glass of Rose? The wine shop did. When we asked the owner about the temperature, he said he ran out of cold rose for the day. He didn't bother to offer us a different wine! What a disgrace to amazing Healdsburg!
On a side note, the owner told us that we must buy a wine from his shop instead if buying at Baci because the prices are better. This was the only place the whole weekend that was tacky. Every place else in Healdsburg was amazing! -

A friend of mine and myself stopped by here on a whim. We were greeted warmly by Erin, the sales manager, and another employee named Jackie. We wanted to grab a bottle and bring it to dinner. Erin and Jackie worked with us, pouring us different styles of wine until we settled on something. Needless to say, I'll be coming back.

The Wine Shop in downtown Healdsburg is the place to get an overview of the best wines coming out of the Russian River and Sonoma Coastal area. The store owner is super friendly, has lived in the area forever, and loves to chat - lucky for me, cuz I have lots of questions when it comes to wine.
Apparently the best Pinot Noir is described as a glove with an iron fist, meaning, the wine is super drinkable and smooth but packs a punch. Pinots grow perfectly in the Russian River though because of the cool coastal winds that make their way up the river.
Alrighty, here are the best pinots of the North Bay according to the dude at the Wine Shop:
Siduri 2006 Pinot Noir
Skewis 2006 Pinot Noir
Anthill Farms 2006 Pinot Noir
Chasseur 2006 Pinot Noir
Walter Hansel 2006 Pinot Noir
Go forth, and drink vino! Just don't forget to include me in the bacchanalia. Otherwise the wine gods will frown on you.Listed in: North Bay Trips, Russian River Wineries, Wine Country

Great little wine shop right on the main drag. Excellent selection of wines. Many tastings throughout the day. The two owners are very knowledgeable. They are able to assist you well in your search, and make very good recommendations.
Check out their Reserve Room. Some great finds for that special occasion.
Reasonable prices. So, if you are short of time to head out to all the wineries, head to this place for your wine selection. -

Great little wine shop a few steps from the main square, with a unique selection of locally produced (not mass produced) wines, especially Pinot Noir, Syrah, Cabernet, and Chardonnay. The very friendly wine guy turned us on to some rockstar producers of pinot we can't wait to try. Super knowledgeable and kept his suggestions to our preferences and price range.
Nice little reserve room with some very special wines too! -

Healdsburg is my personal getaway place whenever I can. It's close to the bay area, has a quaint downtown, mostly friendly people and the area is surrounded by awesome wineries/vineyards. I stumbled upon The Wine Shop accidentally as I was walking my dog and checking out the shops. I was by myself, not dressed to go anywhere (jean skirt/tshirt) and so I felt like I didn't fit in any of the places I passed by (it was a Saturday night). I wanted to go sit somewhere (other the park and random benches) and I saw this place as I was adjusting my dog's harness. One of the hosts greeted me with a big smile, invited me in as I peeked hesitantly because I had my dog. To my delight, the place allows dogs inside and they even have a water bowl!!! She welcomed me in, acknowledged me as she helped the couple (who were also friendly people). As a person traveling by myself and kinda shy, this place was a breath of fresh air. I sat and was served with really good flights and for a very reasonable price ($9 for 6 tasting). I came a little late but they didn't kick me out as they were trying to close, they were very sweet about it. I love the selection of wines, their flexibility to open a bottle if you wanna try it before buying and the friendly service, the ambiance is laid back (even my dog was quite relaxed which was really amazing). This will be one of my places whenever I come and visit downtown Healdsburg. I forgot to get that person's name... but she's originally from Boston. I want to give her a special shout out for welcoming me to this place! Great customer service goes a loooooong way!

Here is a free lesson, never go to wine country without a plan. Don't be fooled by thinking those friends that invited you to go with them have a plan. Oh and try to leave the damn house before 3:30!
People nothing is open past 5 and you will never eat a half way decent meal on a Saturday without a reservation!!!!
Now I know this, all of this, but somehow I got suckered into trusting that other people had figured out the plan. I realized this was a lie as soon as I got in the car but it was too late to run screaming to the closest bar.
So after too long in the car looking for somewhere that wasn't open The Wine Shop saved me from having to break it off with this set of friends. Their little tasting bar is open until 6 and Pedro was a doll about letting us hang out while he shut the place down. He was pouring some delightful wines and was charming and patient with our mess of a posse. Pedro also likes to talk about cycling which made me love him even more than just because he kept pouring me wine.
OMG I almost forgot he is also the reigning "Mr. Healdsburg" he even has a crown, so finally I have been served by royalty! -

For such a small place, this had some great wines. The guys who helped us were knowledgable, friendly, and ultimately gave us some great advice as to what to see and do. Like already mentioned, have a plan before you come to Healdsburg, but if you don't, come here for some ideas.

I don't receive freebies from this wine shop but I did include them in my guide to Sonoma/Napa. Like everyone else here, I find them reasonably priced, casual and a lot of fun. I like when they have winemakers come in and talk about their wines. It's a really cool vibe.

The Wine Shop is a wonderful find. I am usually skeptical about salespeople trying to sell you the most expensive bottle in the shop. These people are different. They know their wines and make great recommendations. Pedro recommended a mixed case of white wines for summer drinking and they were fabulous. His recommendation of Pappapietro 2005 Pinot Noir Peters Ranch was outstanding as was Anthills 2006 Pinot Noir. My wife and I look forward to our yearly stay in Healdsburg and visiting The Wine Shop.
