Okay, Seamster. I've been wearing these suit pants into job interviews for a year and a half, because they're half of my favorite (SEXY) suit and I'm hoping to slay ladies for a living. You fixed the problem with my zipper that made it burst open halfway (from the BOTTOM UP) every time I crossed my legs, sat down, or breathed. I had a four-part interview this morning, and I can't express my gratitude for being free to think about my answers instead of my crotch for those three hours.
Vielen Danke. -

After sending an e-mail as instructed on her website I patiently waited for a reply on the alterations I need. I should have just returned the damn dress since I got a reply and was told weeks later I was not in her area so she could not help me. I'm right near the Broadway Myrtle Stop on the J train. For those that do not know, I'm 20 minutes or less from williamsburg proper. It would have been helpful to know that before wasting my time waiting around for her get back to me. She may be a good seamstress, but she has terrible business acumen.

One of my first "must-do's" upon moving to NYC was to find some great vintage clothes. I picked up a cute, quirky 70's style printed dress one Saturday at the Flea. It had a high collar and sleeves, gathered at the waist, and came down below my knees. I skipped home imagining how creative and chic I'd look strutting into work the following week wearing my new find.
The new find sat in my closet untouched for weeks.
As my wardrobe evolved into summer, I realized how cute the dress would be sleeveless, and shorter. Thus began my hunt for a tailor.
I was nervous about taking my dress to just any old tailor. It was, afterall, going to require some custom talent. I stumbled upon The Williamsburg Seamster online, and excitedly e-mailed my query. I heard back from Tara within a day; she was receptive to my request and proactive in moving forward. Tara was up front about her busy schedule, but we were able to secure a date to meet two weeks later.
Tara came to my apartment as scheduled on a Monday evening--she was great about accomodating my work schedule and arrived around 8 PM. She was professional and presentable--the kind of girl you'd want to be friends with! I tried on my dress for her, and it only took a few minutes for her to pin it up. I requested to have the sleeves removed, the buttons on the collar re-sewn, and the hem taken up above the knee. Tara listened to my requests, communicated in a way that let me know she understood what I was asking for, and made sure I knew was to expect in terms of price and timeline.
I got my finished dress back in about two weeks as promised, and I absolutely love it. The total job was about $60--totally worth if for the service, value, and end product. Tara is awesome and will make you look awesome. I will definitely call the Seamster again! -

I was a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding and Tara did a great job hemming the floor length gown I needed to wear for the event. She came right to my apartment, had the hem pinned in no time and had the dress back to me in no time.
I will definitely recommend Tara to my friends and will be using her services again soon. -

Unfortunately she is not accepting any new alterations until after late July... per an email that she sent today when I contacted her to schedule an alteration.

After seeing the great reviews on Yelp, I was exchanging emails with this seamster in regards to having my drapes altered. I emailed her on Friday saying I thought they would be ready for her to pick up on Monday. Monday afternoon I received an email from her saying she was busy, but would be available later in the week. I never heard back from her, even after sending her another email Wednesday night to see when she was going to stop by. Still nothing. Very unprofessional. In the meantime, I've done the work myself - It looks great, and I didn't have to pay a dime!
Update: I have received an email from her saying that she was extremely ill and could not work or return emails. I have changed my rating because, at the end of the day she never actually sewed anything, so I can't rate her based on quality. She has sent follow up emails a couple of times now that she's feeling better. -

I was in a real bind when I found out about a job interview on short notice and my skirt suit was two sizes too large for me. Although I only sent Tara a message on Saturday after midnight, she got back to me Sunday afternoon, came over sunday night to do a fitting, and had my suit back to me by Monday night since my interview was on Tuesday. She was so professional and polite, and I couldn't be happier with the work.
While it was a bit expensive (the price was a little more because of my time constraints), it was worth the extra money. The convenience of her coming to my home to do a fitting was great and the work was really well done. I will definitely be using Tara again. -

I went to Tara with a (sort of fragile) black lace 1950s/60s dress that fit everywhere except the bust and shoulders - it was too big there. Sort of a complicated tailoring job. I love this dress, so I was nervous about letting someone alter it, but she did a fantastic job. She's definitely the best person to go to if you have anything that's vintage or needs strange or complicated alterations - she's a whiz. The dress is perfect now.

Tara saved my life! Two weeks before my best friend's wedding, I tried on the bridesmaid dress that I'd bought nearly a year earlier. And yeah, it needed to be let out. Tara came to my apartment, assessed the dress, and altered it beautifully in under a week. She was totally professional, nice, and clearly an expert at her craft. AND her prices are very reasonable. Will use her again and recommend her to everyone I know!!

I've been looking around for the perfect tailor. Finally found it in the Williamsburg Seamster. Her craftsmanship is impeccable, her prices are fair, she comes to you. I highly recommend her! Such a great person to work with.
