Sheri and I met up with fellow Yelper Andee and her husband Merle last night at The Wildlife Experience. We attended a preview party for their upcoming Animal Grossology exhibit. I want to thank fellow Yelper Carissa (and Tiffany as well) for inviting Yelpers to come be a part of this party.

I have never been that far south before so we got to see a little more of our new home. The trip there reminded us a lot of California as we hit Friday night traffic down there. Traffic aside, it was very easy finding this place. When we finally made it, we found our friends and immediately got ourselves something to eat and drink. The food was all themed to exhibit. The kids table had pigs in a blanket, dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets, gummy bugs, etc. The adults had squid ink chicken pasta, rocky mountain oysters, corned beef paninis, etc. I tried all of the adult food items that I mentioned (as well as the gummies) and it was interesting. The squid ink pasta was a little mushy, but tasted good. The oysters... well... that was a first for me and I found them to be a bit tough and lacked flavor.

After our meal, the four of us headed upstairs to the exhibit. If you've never been to this place, it's a not that big. Maybe fifteen interactive areas on the second floor. I could talk about each and everyone, but I rather let those who have small children experience it themselves. This exhibit is very much for the younger children and never gets too gross (except for the guess that smell area. Beware of the fourth scent). The older kids might not have as much fun as the little ones. They will definitely like the Make Your Own Slime table. I am not sure that is a permanent, but I may be wrong.

Overall we had fun, the two hours we were there went by fast. It was an interesting place and would be a nice little outing for families with young children.

Oh and the highlight of the night had to be Sheri and Merle's dueling whoopie cushions.

*Update: Metromix was there and took a photo of the four of us. See all the photos here: http://denver.metromix...  We're a couple pages in.*

If possible I think I would give this place 3 1/2 stars.  I like it, but it's just so darn small that there isn't a whole lot to see.  It's kind of like if you took the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and combined it with the Children's Museum and then crammed them into a little building.
I think it has a nice integration of information, activities, and art for how small it is though.  I wonder if it would be better for the kiddies because they have shorter attention spans?  Who knows.  They do have seasonal exhibits, and some of them are pretty interesting.  I guess if you have a little time and want to do something slightly educational, it's not a bad choice.

I have taken my kids here for both the museum (which they find boring) and for Imax movies.  It's a great place for the latter for sure....the museum needs some new stuff because they were bored silly and it wasn't worth the high price.

The kids' room is a neat idea, but they don't have the stuff available to make it great; crayons, paper, etc.

Supposedly they just did a huge multi-million dollar improvement, but haven't been there since they did.

I have taken kids here.. they were bored.. I was bored.. The special events they put on throughout the year are pretty good however.  I've attended the Beer and Ale fest twice... This year was not as good as in previous years but it was still fun, the band was good.. and hey... I got one of those yelp* beer can holders!   I wish I could do 2.5 stars...

We had fun at the Wildlife Experience.  I think it was a little over my kid's head though.  I think for older kids this would be great.   The Grossology exhibit was going on and that was pretty cool.  There were swarms of kids from groups there so it was hard to really see or get to try anything though.  My kid being smaller just got pushed out of the way.  They also have a robot exhibit that he really liked, all kids like to push buttons.  All in all it was a fun use of a couple of hours even if it was a little advanced for a 3 year old.

The museum is informative, but interesting...  I believe that if I came here just to view the museum I'd be bored and disappointed greatly.

Ok Cornpopgirl, lousy opening doesn't explain the 4 stars.  Let's dig in to the events that The Wildlife Experience holds.  During the year they hold what appears to be a monthly Martini and a Movie night.  These evenings are open to those that purchase tickets and are adult only.  It is nicely catered with hoity toity appetizers and alcoholic beverages to boot.  They also have an event for beer.

For those that have children or are content with the child within, they have an event near Christmas offering hot cocoa, cookies and a holiday movie.  Though there were a lot of kids present, most parents kept them under control and we were able to enjoy Santa Clause.

I understand where they are trying to go with this place, I really do. It's very geared for children. I brought my parents who are both school teachers to this place, I think we were the only family without children in the whole building and after walking around for a while I realized why. The facilities themself are pretty nice, the movie was okay but was as enjoyable as a Dr Seuss book for an adult. The exhibits they did have were either one extreme or the other (adult or kid), the Ansel Adams was great for adults, but anything else was pretty much kids only. For the price, I wasn't impressed, maybe because half of the museum was closed down for their new Globeology exhibit construction. Other then the play areas, I don't see children having much fun here... or me for that matter. Maybe I am just nostaligic for the way museums used to be. Having Q & As on digital touchscreen consoles by things is nice, but I feel like this place is missing something.
