3 reviews for The Westport Inn
The Rooms- CD players, DVD players, King size beds, tons of top quality pillows.
The Bathrooms- Not safe for octogenarians (no bars to hold onto). BUT the shampoo/conditioner/ and soaps are from Aveda, classy.
The Lounge- fantastic decor a la South Beach style
The pool- housed in an open air facility that offers major sun for the potted palms throughout. Some rooms over look the pool and complimentary breakfast area.
The Gym- Enough machines and weights to get a good workout.
This hotel really goes the extra mile. Dogs are welcome and each pooch receives a gift basket packed with bowls, pee pads, and other necessities. Five stars for service, amenities, and great design.

This place is really nothing special.
Westport doesn't have many options as it pertains to overnight accommodations. Most of them are pretty expensive. This is the only moderately priced place in town. (Moderate in Westport is $150 a night!)
What does that get you?
Basically, a mediocre motel. There's an indoor section where all of the rooms look out and down on an indoor pool, thus creating a kind of damp and moist feel everywhere. The rest of the place is straight up motel-style outdoor rows of rooms. I'm staying there now and the rain the last couple of days has created a situation where the rug in my room is perpetually damp. There's no air conditioning unit or fan to dehumidify the room.
The phone in my room is missing the menu plate so any call needs to start with calling the front desk to figure out which of the unlabeled buttons to push.
I called the front desk for a bottle opener the other night and they didn't have one. So my wine sat chilling on ice undrinkable.
My bathroom has mildew in the tub. My coffee maker has no filters.
The internet cut out this morning. The breakfast is a waffle maker, coffee, yogurt, and granola. Not very inspired even by continental breakfast standards.
NOW...all of that said....the beds and bedding are comfortable and nice. The staff seems pleasant. There are free bike rentals, which is cool. There are iPod docks in the room and that's fun as well. And there's a sauna and I love saunas. So there's that and that's nice.
But let's put it this way...any Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn, Days Inn....any of those places are better in pretty much every way. This place would do itself a big favor just but nailing down the basics.

First of all, I think a collective laugh is required at the whole prospect of me in Connecticut.
OK, now that that's out of the way, let me explain. My sweetie was in Westport for some meetings. I flew in to meet him for a work-related social thing (that included a Beach Boys concert, if you can believe that) before taking the train into New York for the remainder of the weekend.
When I arrived at the front desk, I was positively ready to pass out from exhaustion. I had taken the red-eye and then spent a couple of hours waiting for the shuttle from JFK and then riding in the damn shuttle. Luckily, the front desk was friendly and efficient and I got into my nice, comfortable room very quickly.
The room had everything I needed. Cozy bed. Television to try to lull myself in and out of sleep at the appropriate times. Room service to get something in my stomach when I finally woke up and had to rush to get ready for the evening. It was clean and quaint and everything that I imagine Connecticut is supposed to be.
The location is a little on the inconvenient side, as it is not near the epicenter of the town's activity. We had as much of a night on the town as is possible in a town like Westport, and had to get a cab back to the hotel, and another cab to the train station. Neither ride was super-quick. Overall, a pleasant stay.
