12 reviews for The Westin Westminster
So... I'm currently staffed out in Denver. Well, between Denver and Boulder. Being a "flat-lander" is ok sometimes, except when you land in a place like Boulder-ish that's ab-so-friggin-lutely beautiful. So, that's the first thing in the Westin's favor. Look out your room window and you have something that looks very similar to most postcards.
OK - now the hotel itself.
Probably one of my favorite hotels. Great rooms, very friendly staff... last time I went out for a run, the valet handed me a bottle of water on the way back in. Nice. It has a nice restaurant, and the hotel in general is very new, renovated just 2 or 3 years ago. The lobby's beautiful, and they have patios-with-a-view EVERYWHERE. The hotel gym/pool has great equipment and nice views, and doors that open up to... (you guessed it... a stone patio with a gorgeous hot-tub and an outdoor fireplace.
Not cheap, so take your corporate rate with you, but overall a GREAT hotel.
I've experienced better is right --- a whole lot better.
After being treated famously the prior night at the JW in Cherry Creek, I felt like I was slumming the following night at the Westin Westminster.
I've spent many a night at a Westin-- all over the World, but this Westin is just Tired --
Since we are staying close to home these days, we are doing the Stay-Cation thing; I picked Westin since they had an offer for us Community Service type people -- Well, that turned out to be a nightmare-they changed the terms after the fact, and they ended up charging us more than if I booked via Hotel.Com or Priceline.
To add insult to injury, even though I'm a StarWood member and should have upgraded, we received the bottom tier room, which is reminiscent of a Days Inn with the Heavenly Bed and Shower Head; the only saving grace.
Regardless of how bad the room is, the bed here is Da'Bomb !!!
Soft, Pillowy, and just plain comfy !!!
I also love the signature shower head which is simply a double shower-head, but so nice to have the water pressure -- absent in many hotels.
Beside the bed and shower-head, everything else in the Westin is old, dirty, and not well maintained.
The exercise equipment in the fitness room is not serviced, so you have to go from treadmill to treadmill to find one where everything is working -- the TV didn't work on one, the sound on the TV didn't work on another -- I felt like I was Goldilocks trying to find one, that was just right.
The worst YUK moment, came when we looked at the condition of the indoor pool, and outdoor hot-tub.
Dirty, just plain Dirty.
Maybe one day we'll sample the Tabor Center Westin and have a better opinion.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Westin chain, and usually Westins are well run and maintained -- just not this one. This area has so many well run hotels that are lower in price, seems like this Westin has just given up.
Not a good value for the money --
We just had to spend a week at a hotel while our wood floors were being redone. I 'hot wired' and got a week at the Westin for $84.00 a night. We were thrilled with the staff, the hotel (beautiful), and our room. We were treated very well, and I can't say enough about the excellent staff and service. We would definitely return if need be.
I'm adding this additional comment to my original review below because I was contacted by the hotel directly about my original review posted. The hotel sought additional information about my stay. I responded using my email account, stating that I would be happy to discuss anything they wished, and to let me know what specific information they wanted. I never provided the hotel person my name, and I fully intended the yelp review and my follow up communication with the hotel to remain confidential and anonymous.
Well, the hotel used my email address to lookup my hotel account records. While the hotel person may have been well intended, I do not appreciate the hotel searching through registration records to see when I stayed there, and any other information about my stay. While I take responsibility for using email to respond to the hotel's email to me, the hotel should not start digging around their hotel guests' records concerning these yelp reviews. These should be anonymous reviews, and the merchants shouldn't be cross-referencing yelp reviewers with their personal account records kept by the merchants to see who's writing yelp reviews and who's not.
When I found this out, I immediately contacted the hotel person and told her not to contact me again, and that I didn't appreciate her going through hotel records trying to find out information about me. The lady then wrote the yelp review response currently posted below my posting.
For the record, I stand by my original review, which I'm leaving below. Readers can decide for themselves whether they wish to stay at this hotel based on the information provided here.
Original Review:
This is perhaps one of the worst hotels in the world. sure, the lobby area is beautiful, surprisingly beautiful. but once you get into the rooms, you see what a horrible place it is. the rooms are small, dingy and really look like the old motel 6 rooms. at least with motel 6 you always knew what you got. if you're simply going to the westin to meet for drinks or a meeting, the hotel is fine. just don't stay there. also, parking is a nightmare. unless you want to valet park and pay like $25/day or whatever it is now, the hotel makes you walk across and down the street to park. of course, you walk by a huge empty lot for the valet parking, which nobody uses. save your money and stay somewhere else.
Westin Hotels always seem to turn out good for me on business trips. There's something about all of their lobbies that are very warm and cozy. Perfect if you want to just hang out downstairs and chat. This location is one of the best and surprising to me. Originally I was staying in a lousy 1/2 star motel in Aurora and then relocated to this beautiful paradise. There is a beautiful small man-made "lake" outside of this hotel that you can walk along at night. This leads you to a giant plaza across the street with restaurants, theaters, and other shops. Once you get to the hotel you almost don't need a car for anything else.
The rooms here are amazing. Some of the most comfortable and high thread count bedding as well as a bonanza of pillows. The restrooms are clean. One thing I loved was the dual shower head in the bathroom. You can adjust them from spray to a massaging stream or one of each if you'd like. The towels are nice and thick and not the type that feel like sandpaper. They also provide a robe if that tickles your fancy. A copy of USA Today appears at your doorstep every morning which I think is a nice touch.
An friendly staff and a great facility made this one of the best hotel experiences I've had and I would definitely stay here again, actually I will be staying here anytime I visit the area.
Wow this Hotel is nice I thought before walking into the room. The bathroom is nice.. I like the two shower head thing.. so far so good... ok better check my email, hmmm.. it appears to be 2008, but yet their is no wireless internet???. Ok, there must be a cable somewhere.... hmmmm... nope. Oh wait here are instructions to connect to the internet.
"Plug cable into computer"
Ok.... what cable??? Some time went by and I found what appears to be a 12 inch cable (WHY SO SHORT!) in the drawer.. ok where do I plug this into???? I searched the phones, the desk, nothing.
I then crawled on my knees and found a little jack behind the desk, but the cable is so short that I have to balance my latop on the side of the desk.
OK Westin, you dummy... this isnt hard. Get wireless.. If my car wash has free wireless internet, you can easily overcharge me for this simple technology. Get with the times. You have a beautiful hotel and im sure alot of business people staying here, but who thought up your internet, your mom? Did the old man from the mountains come fix you up right?? If you dont want to invest in a few wireless routers, then AT LEAST make the cable long enough to reach the middle of the desk!
Most people, like myself dont want to sit on some annoying small desk anyways, we want to lie in bed and surf.
I HATE when hotels have stupid annoying things like this, it really ruins all the positive things about this hotel. I dont even feel like writing what I like about this hotel...
FIne, the rooms are nice, the lobby is purdy and everything else seems nice and modern... like the phone im about to use so I can call up some $40/night hotel with FREE WIRELESS INTERNET.
Ugh, Westin you disappoint me. At least Draw a map so people know how to use your stupid internet.
This review is NOT for the hotel. I hear it's a nice hotel.
This review is for their hideously repugnant catering service. Over the years, I've attended several x-mas parties with various companies there. Each one capital-letter SUCKED.
One caused a bunch of people food poisoning. My husband and I still shudder at the memory of those dead strawberries swimming in gray pools of "cream".
At another one, they ran out of entrees. So the staff just left and hid somewhere. After fishing them out, we found out none spoke any English.
At a third one, they started serving dinner with dessert. I mean, the cheesecake was already sitting at tables, crusted and melting before anything else showed up.
Every time I hear I am attending an event at the Westin, I die inside a little...
During past travels out of state and for special occasions in town I highly recommend staying at any Westin or Starwood resort. That said, my recent stay at The Westin Westminster was a five star experience.
I booked The Westin Westminster for our wedding night as I've never had a bad experience in any of their hotels and knew they would exceed our expectations.
I arrived at about 11:00am on Saturday morning just to drop off the car as the limo was going to drop us off later that evening and thought I'd inquire on an early check in. The front desk staff was great and to my surprise accommodated my early check in. When advising the front desk staff of the special occasion they were nothing but congratulatory and advised that they provide a few niceties for couples staying on their wedding night of which I'll mention in a few.
After a fabulous wedding celebration we were dropped off at The Westin Westminster and promptly meet by the bell staff. Our bags were quickly stored as we made our way into the room. The hotel staff had provided us with these cool battery operated candles on each nightstand with a heart made of silk rose petals left on the bed. The rooms are upscale with all of the modern amenities, marble tile in the bathroom and the softest robes ever.
We completed the room service card for breakfast in bed and upon arrival in the morning the waiter was very accommodating and polite. Unwrapping each item we had ordered, poured our coffee and provided a hand written card from the staff congratulating us on our new marriage. Before leaving he mentioned that the huge breakfast was on the house and advised that he would be our personal assistant for the remainder of the stay. WOW!
Needless to say we didn't take advantage of the fitness center, pool or restaurant, however hope you understand why.
For an in-town special occasion or your business travel to Denver, The Westin Westminster is the spot.
I'm a fan! This is a very comfortable hotel with friendly service. I'm totally into the artwork and photography. Great little shop. Lots of amenities, including a couple of bottles of water in the room and a free shuttle service. The lobby is a great place to hang out. Lots of phone booths and restrooms and pens and notepads. I've stayed there three times. My kids love the pool.
Here is a 5-star hotel all the way around. I have attended a conference or two at this Westin and stayed overnight during one of the conferences.
The conference facilities were spotless and ready as scheduled. Coffee always hot, and the conference food was pretty darn good.
Had cocktails a few times with visiting friends at the bar, too, and the visitors remarked on the scenic view which was a man-made lake with some real live ducks swimming in it, a short distance outside the windows.
Spacious clean rooms, some spectacular views; especially from the top floors, nice western decor, and gracious world class service from beginning to end.
Came here for work and felt like I was staying in a ski chalet. The rooms are pretty normal (on the nicer side) but it was the hotel itself that was nice. The gym was beyond most hotel gyms and if I wasn't in a cast, I would have hit the pool for sure.
Had drinks and breakfast at the restaurant/bar- would have eaten there but had other plans.
Great option in the Denver area. I've stayed here when I used to visit Denver. Now I recommend it over the Tabor Center to friends and colleagues who visit. New property with real Rocky Mountain feel. Well appointed rooms and great service. Views of the mountains are also great.
