9 reviews for The Westin Tysons Corner
A good hotel in the Tyson's area. I was headed to the airport the next morning, so I didn't get to check out the breakfast, but the dining area looked pretty cool. The internet definitely cost extra.
Comfortable bed, great front desk staff. Good hotel that you should look into if you're staying in the area.
Aside from one morning when the hotel ran out of hot water, the Westin in Tysons Corner has been a trusty place for us travel-weary consultants. The rooms are spacious and tidy. Service is impeccable. I've stayed here for the past several weeks and I've never had any issues. The only complaint I have is with the hotel shuttle that goes to the local businesses during the early morning hours. There isn't a schedule, so it's hard to catch the shuttle and it will often make you late. If you stay here, it's better to have your own car, or carpool with coworkers.

I am a Starwoods Preferred Guest even though I really don't often stay in their hotels because they are on the pricier side. I only booked this hotel because they had an offer on their website for a special $71/night! That enough is a good tip to check out hotel websites and compare them to sites like Expedia and Orbitz.
So, had my reservation, pre-paid--great! I called the night before to check on the request that I had made for early check-in since my flight was arriving at 9:30am and I wanted to make sure we could check in so we could go do touristy stuff the rest of the day. It took the person who answered the phone in reservations 10 minutes to get her computer to work to look up my reservation and then she quoted me a price of like $200--she somehow thought that I wanted a room tonite? Ugg
No problems because the actual stay was great. They had our room ready at 10:30am when we arrived. There was a random rollaway bed that I did not request and it was removed promptly after I called. The room was clean and neat and I definitly liked the turn down service complete with chocolates. The bed was very comfortable and there were ample pillows (I hate when hotels only give you one or two pillows). They also have express check out and all you had to do was leave your room key card and fill out a short form and drop it in a box on your way out. This hotel also has a complimentary shuttle service, but I would suggest checking on the hours. They also had ample free parking. It is very accessible to the highway and not far from the West Falls Church Metro stop. Right down the road on Leesburg Pike are tons of restaurants and the Tysons Galleria mall.
The one thing that I would suggest for this hotel would be more vending machines. There was only one beverage machine and that was in the fitness room in the basement! I know that they probably do that so people grab stuff from the mini bar or fhte 24-hour room service (the menu was SO expensive--even for room service!), but still! They also have a small coffee shop where you can get pop, juice and small food items but it only seemed to be open in the morning.
Overall, we had a great stay!

Wow, my experience was totally different than the others. I stayed here last minute by booking Priceline for $125, so it was a screaming deal!
I arrived at about 9 p.m. and the front desk staff was friendly and helpful. My room was clean and sleek. The furniture is new and the linens are lovely. It's an efficient and well organized space. The bathroom was sparkling clean.
Room service was ok. My medium rare burger was well done and my veggies were French fries. Not that big of a deal, but not spot on.
I think I'm swayed by the price. For $125 this was definitely 4 stars, for $250 it would have been three stars.
For all of you staying at a fancy hotel in the D.C. area, shame on you. This Westin has the quality of the most modern hotels, and the price runs sub-$100. I would always go back to this hotel whenever I'm in town.

Whenever I travel to Washington D.C. on business I try to stay here unless I need to be closer to the capitol. The service is always good, the staff exercises an attention to detail that is lacking in other hotel brands. I especially like the warm cookies they give out to guests upon check in. The pillows are huge and soft, and the beds are very comfortable. The hotel even offers a van service to the local mall or restaurants for travelers who do not have a rental car or other transportation.

The drive here from the airport was beautiful. We need more trees from the airport to SF. I like trees.
This is not a review about trees however. This is a review about a Westin. A lovely, recently redone Westin. Ignore the red algae growth on the skylights in the lobby - they've tried to disguise that anyway. The dcor is very nice. Dark wood, dark leather chairs, cool tilework that looks almost like dark stained hardwood floors. It seems all points look out onto the freeway, but no mind. Draw your gorgeous blinds and enjoy the room. The rooms are very sexy. I was lucky enough to end up in a suite, and if I could just wrap up the living room and take it home with me for my own, that'd be great. The couch is covered in a very snuggly-uppable dark gray velvet. Too bad I've only been able to sit on it for 6 seconds so far. My bed is HEAVEN. I don't know where I am in relation to the rest of the area, but I hear there is a huge mall nearby. The staff has been very nice, although it's not quite the same level of customer service as the Westin O'Hare. The Starbucks should be open a bit longer than it is, the "gift shop" is a couple of shelving units just outside the Starbucks counter. The restaurant. . . Don't. Just seriously? Don't. This terrified me for my day and a half long meeting as I had three meals being prepared, and if this was what we were in for? I'd be drawn and quartered by hungry attendees for sure. Luckily, the catering was quite good. Phew!
The music piped in over the speakers is an odd and not entirely pleasant mishmash. It runs the gamut from reggae to French to modern to covers to banjo solos to gospel and onward to who knows where. Pink Floyd done all in violins? Is that Hawaiian they're speaking now? Odd, just odd.

This Falls Church hotel Falls Short.
This place used to be a DoubleTree and Starwood bought it and renovated it, but they stopped short of conversion to Westin standards. Upon walking into the common modern, low-lit lobby, you can't help looking left into the garish conference area. Awful. The elevators are old and slow (should have been updated with the rest of the hotel). The rooms are basically standard Westin rooms (usual Westin furniture, etc.) but you can tell it wasn't originally built as a Westin. The only other building downside is that there's no concierge lounge. There's a floor that's supposed to be the concierge floor but they deliver USA Todays instead of WSJ.
The staff is impossibly incompetent. Wake-up calls routinely come at the wrong hours (it only took me two screw-ups--yes I learn quickly :)--to stop using this presumably basic hotel amenity [is it difficult to put in an automatic system where the guest programs the time himself?]). There are occasionally lines that form at check-in that take 10 minutes, because of how slowly the front desk processes check-ins. This week I advised the attendant checking me in that I had to stay one extra night and would he be so kind to extend my stay by one night? "Yessir, that is now taken care of." Two nights later, the eve of my original checkout, I thought, "Why do I suspect they screwed this up?" So I called down to ask if my checkout was listed as tomorrow morning or if it had been changed, like I had been told it had, to the following day. They told me it was tomorrow morning (i.e. they hadn't made the change, just as I suspected). Also, one time, the staff member doing newspaper deliveries is throwing them against doors at 4am, waking me up (I have advised mgmt about this). Then one night, this dude next to me starts up the party machine in his room at 2am or something. After not being able to get back to sleep, I ask the hotel staff to do something about it. The night manager squirms a bit as I'm making this request to him over the phone, telling me that this guy is one of their very best and most regular customers. I advise said night manager that I couldn't give a sh@% who he is, and that I expect something be done. So he finally sends up somebody who makes some pansy request which the guy ignores. I ended up having to resolve it myself with this guy.
Dear Starwood Executives, as it is currently configured and managed, this property ought to be a Four Points. Hire more capable staff (which may entail increasing wages), get some basic hotel management blocking and tackling down, and make the necessary improvements (you've invested a lot already; just finish the job). As it stands, you're eroding the brand value of what is a pretty good mark: Westin Hotels.

westins are probably one of my favorite moderately priced hotels. (of course nothing beats the ritz, four seasons or hotel coronado in san diego on the pricey side. )
when we were looking for hotels, one criteria was that the hotel have an indoor pool. my only complaint is that it didn't have a sauna. i guess they really only offer those amenities at places like the aforementioned hotels. the rooms were large and everything was kept up nicely. we also noticed that prices are drastically different between weekends and weekdays. we chose to stay during the weekend for this reason.
