Our room was located on the 28th floor and had a really amazing view of the city. The beds were good.
We were first offered  a room on the 5th floor, but the girl at check in had no problem giving us another room on a higher floor when we requested one. The staff was very nice every time I had an interaction I could tell they cared about CS.

The room was $270/Night, good value for the rooms, location and service.  I would stay there again.

    This was a pleasant surprise.

I was out in SF for a friend's birthday party and unfortunately some one the people in the party had a bit too much to drink and became a problem. I walked to the nearest hotel just to get a room to pass out in and was pleasantly surprised.

The staff was very friendly and sympathetic to the situation. They gladly gave me a corner room at a discount on the 34th floor. Man oh man was that a great view. The main building was blocking my view of Union Square but the view was still breathtaking. The room was simple, yet modern, clean and comfortable. I slept well that evening and was thankfully only a few blocks from BART when I woke up. Unfortunately I left my keys there but they gladly mailed them to me within 48 hours.

All around great experience. Amazing views, comfortable bed, clean and spacious, what more can you ask for?

Eh, this is a nice place but I don't think it's all that great.  I would have rated this place a 4 because of how comfortable the bed was but it just seemed like another corporate hotel with no real substance to it.

I enjoyed the floor to ceiling windows but beware if you're staying on the lower levels you'll need those windows even more because the rooms are itsy bitsy.  Also beware that the snack warning that says your room will be charge within 10 seconds if you grab one of their snacks is not "hotel humor" as I initially thought - I thought they were being a bit cheeky.  Now, I didn't remove any of the items but the next day noticed that they were all on sensors so in reality you will be charged in 10 seconds if you just pick an item up.

My shower leaked.  Not just a little but a lot (towels were soaked) because the tub slants toward the sink area.

They only had two of the six elevators working one night after a Giants game, yeah, I don't like waiting 10-15 minutes to get on an elevator and climbing 17 stories of stairs was out of the question.

One last thing, I don't know what but it really bugged me that they had signed asking you to use the revolving door.   Again, I don't know why (and it's probably more of a nitpick than anything) but that really bugged me, especially when the other doors were working just fine.  It bugs me just like when you walk into a convenience store and one of the double doors is locked....grrrr.

Oh yeah, and I've spent probably 1-2 hours trying to fix a charge for an additional day because they combined two separate reservations incorrectly...double grrr...actually I think I just talked myself into downgrading this place to 2 stars.

Recommend staying for business or pleasure.

PS. I had an issue with billing and it was taken care of with speed and kindness. Thank you, Westin SF Market Street! Will come back again.

    Large Rooms For San Francisco

This property is very comfortable for business or leisure. The beds are "heavenly", showers with dual Speakman heads, plasm TVs with cable, complimentary fitness center and terrific location near shopping, public transportation, and restaurants. The entire staff professionally accommodated our every request promptly (and we had many!). The hotel is conveniently located in an upscale area of Union Square with wonderful views of the Bay Bridge and the city--the higher the floor, the better. The valet parking entrance is on Third (away from the loud, busy tourist area) which did get a bit congested on Saturday with cars entering the city. I recommend the Westin if you a looking for a location that is walking distance to Union Square shopping and public transit.

Executive shit right here. Great customer service. Thank you so much for upgrading us!!! I absolutely LOVED our view of the city... it was impeccable. Comfortable ass beds. HDTV. The location is super convenient... walking distance from Union Square (lots of SHOPPING and bomb food!)... Taxi cab away to some good nightlife. Definitely a great choice when deciding on where to stay on a vacation to the city.

As an SPG Gold (and hopefully Platinum this year) member, I try to stay at SPG properties as often as possible. In the case of the Bay, it's usually been the W... either at SOMA or in Newark, CA depending on where work takes me. For a change of pace, decided to stay at the Westin Market Street. Got the corner room for a rate of $269 per night. Didn't really feel the room was any more special than a regular room, save for more square footage. The floor-to-ceiling windows were cool, although my view wasn't particularly special.

Would have had more positive things to say, save for the ridiculously expensive phone call rates - $50+ for a 30 min conference call - and the parking rates. Sure, not nearly as expensive as NYC rates and it's not coming out of my personal pocket but doesn't lessen the sting any.

Having stayed at both Westins, I can now definitively state that this is the better Westin. St. Francis is a solid 3 - 3 1/2 star while the Market street location is a solid 4 star option. My biggest complaint was the water not being hot enough, but I didn't see any other reviewers complaining so it's probably an anomaly.

Great night's sleep, rooms seem newer than even the St. Francis's renovated rooms and awesome breakfast. I'd stay here again.

I've stayed here the last three times I visited San Francisco, and it has yet to disappoint.

    Some observations and such:

It's on Third Street about half a block from Market Street, with all of its shopping and what not.

The doormen here are great.  They have always been welcoming and helpful.  Need a cab?  There is a doorman dedicated to that task who does a great job.

The sundries shop at the hotel is not well stocked.  Try the 7-11 or the CVS on Market Street.

I'm not sure why this hotel only has a 3.3 star average, because I had an excellent 5/5 experience here.  The staff went out of their way to provide me with excellent service, my room was very clean, and I had a view out of the 27th floor - spectacular view.  When I valet parked my car, the valet guys were very efficient, very polite, and provided great service.  The concierge at the front desk provided great service, as did the bellman.  The maids even said hello when I walked by them down the hall.  I'll definitely be coming back to this hotel.  I stayed here April 5, 2012.  The price of the room, $189, was not expensive at all for the view, clean room, and great service that I received.  I agree with other reviews that the $50 overnight parking was expensive, but hey, this is the middle of the city - you're going to pay a lot for parking anywhere here.

I have stayed at the Westin San Francisco Market Street hotel three times. As a SPG platinum guess I was upgrade the last two times. The upgraded suites are very nice and worth the upgrade. I believe the suites are located on the end and have numbers ending with #06. Be aware the hotel can be very busy when there is a conference held at the Moscone Center or hotel meeting rooms.  If you are staying at Westin San Francisco Market Street hotel on vacation or pleasure you might want find a smaller or Boutique Hotel. The last two times I have not been impressed by the service!! In fact I would highly recommend staying away from Ducca Restaurant. The service was really bad! They had bad wine and horrible beer available on the happy hour menu. Nobody finished their drinks!!

The Westin San Francisco Market Street concierge desk is excellent. They booked all my tickets to the California Academy of Sciences and provided some excellent recommendations for dinner. Highly recommend using their services. I wanted to use the hotel driving service but they wanted to charge me $65 for an inter-city drop off. That is crazy. Hotel has no shuttle service. If you stay at the W hotel one block away you can reserve the Acura. I have never eaten breakfast at this hotel. Good Peets coffee and Starbucks directly across the street. In my opinion the Westin San Francisco Market Street is the best option when staying in San Francisco on business. Hotel fails short for personal travel.

Carmen at the front check-in desk is very helpful. It's night and day between her and some of the other staff. Also beware that if you leave your luggage on a cart with the luggage staff it won't be locked up. This happened twice. I was really concerned with somebody walking off with my laptop. I wouldn't recommend leaving luggage with the bell staff unless you see them lockup the bags. Maybe it's because I used a luggage cart. Also don't expect the bell staff pushing the cart if you choose not the valet park. WIFI in the hotel is really expensive.  I agree with the three and half YELP rating..

Overall, this is a nice place to stay and I recommend it, but I would not stay here again. There is nothing too good about it, nothing too bad, there is just nothing too special about it.

The staff was very friendly, the room was very clean, but I kind of felt like I was at a Doubletree. Not that I'm dissing on Doubletree or anything. I am a big fan of Hilton Hotels, but if your title is the "Westin Restort and Spa" one would expect a higher level of quality.

Also, what's with the "paid" Wi-Fi at these hotels? If McDonald's can give it away for free then Westin (and Hilton) should embrace this concept too.

Every time I'm in San Francisco, I stay at the Westin Market Street.  I love this hotel.  The quality is great, the space is beautiful and the views are amazing.  The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is sometimes when I've stayed, I get a huge amazing room.  The last time I got a much smaller room (still comfortable, but not as great).  The location is so convenient to Union Square, the Ferry Terminal, etc.

Really poor concierges. They wouldn't find us a cab when we were stranded in Haight Asbury nor did they have any limo or cab numbers to offer us. Any time we called the front desk with questions they seemed very put off. Room had nice view but hotel is no big deal if you're looking for some class or pampering.

I think the best part of my stay here was being in a great location.  Walking distance to Union Square area for some shopping, a block to fine dining dinner, and a mile to the Tenderloin for brunch.  Other than that, the place was nothing special.

We were on the 14th floor and the room was decent with the tall ceiling to floor glass windows, but the bathroom was a little outdated.  I expected more from a Westin.  The first thing I noticed in the bathroom was that there was no lights for the shower.  There was only a vanity light next to the sink so it was pretty dark when taking a shower.

Another strange thing was that there no switch to turn off the bathroom vent.  WTH?!  I closed the bathroom door to see if we could hear it while in bed and indeed we could so we quickly called the Service desk.  They offered to have an engineer come up and turn it off.  The guy came, unscrewed the vent lid, and turned the switch dial to off.  Ahhhh......finally some peace, but that meant we had to have the bathroom door open when showering to prevent the mirrors from fogging up.  Turns out that it's SF and Oakland regulations to keep them on 24/7 if there are no opening windows to vent.  Strange as this is the first time I experienced this.

Didn't think the bed was all that great as everyone says.  I think my bed at home is better.

Staff was friendly.  We asked for a later checkout in which they let us check out an hour later at 1PM instead.  Valet parking was about $50, which is pretty standard for hotels in SF.

I travel to San Francisco quite a bit on business and always stay here. Not because I love it but more because it's close to where I need to go and I love Starwood Points.

I've stayed at many Westin's across the country and this is definitely not as nice as most. It's location is great but the customer service needs to improve. The restaurant in the hotel is a joke but luckily, Subway is across the street.

The valet staff outside is always very nice but it the staff inside the hotel just isn't up to Westin par in my opinion. At other locations, I usually have some sort of treat waiting on my arrival but not here.

The rooms are ok - but it's the location that I enjoy the most. You can walk everywhere from here.

Also, I always end up with some additional charge, usually room tax, being charged to my card a month or so after my stay which is a pain when you have to submit expenses. I wouldn't mind it if I received a heads up that it was being charged but now, I just patiently wait for my additional charge to pop up.

Overall, if you're looking for a great location in downtown SF this is the place - however; don't expect stellar customer service.

We took the BART to get to the hotel from San Francisco Airport. It's probably a block and a half walk from the Montgomery station to the hotel and is nestled on 3rd st a little inward from Market St.. very walkable from Montgomery or Powell station if you plan on leaving your car at home. I came with a bragging SPG member so with the 'benefits' we were able to get a corner room on the 26th floor.. The windows were floor to ceiling and we had almost an entire wall of windows which showed an amazing view of san francisco's downtown. The location was great, walking distance to union square and ghiradelli square and fisherman's wharf was just a hop skip and tram away.

We had a mini bar stocked with overpriced goodies in our fridge which had sensors. If you even touched an item you would need to replace it within 10 seconds or it automatically gets charged to your room. They provided complimentary Starbucks coffee which you could brew inside your room.

I think the best part of the westin was the heavenly beds which they claim will give you a great night's sleep. They weren't joking.. the beds were super comfy and it just makes you want to melt in between all the pillows and the bedding sheets. The staff were accommodating and the concierge service at the hotel was very helpful. Awesome location, great bed, what more could you ask for?

I've enjoyed a week long stay at in this hotel for the past two years in a row for a conference. Like all Westin's I've visited, it is really nice and this one is certainly better than the 3.5 rating here on Yelp.

On my last visit I was at the very end of a hallway on one of the (top) 30th floor levels. My room had an absolutely gorgeous view of downtown. The remarkable part was my booking was just a plain jane regular standard room. It was very impressive for something that wasn't an upgrade.

One the best parts of this hotel is the location - it is just a quick minute or two walk from the montgomery BART/muni station, three to five minute walk from all the union square shopping, five minute walk to chinatown, the list goes on and on.

Also like most Westin's the irons are complete and total rubbish. How a chain as nice as Westin can get something so simple wrong is beyond me but whatever it is just an iron.

I'm rather sad that next year the conference I attend has decided to move to the Hyatt. I could look forward to coming back to this hotel every year.

Pros:  Justin at the front desk was amazing.  http://Hotels.com messed up and canceled our reservation, instead of canceling my boss' reservation at the Intercontinental for the same night.  When we came to check-in to the Westin, they were overbooked and we couldn't get a room since our reservation was "canceled".  http://Hotels.com could not do anything for us.  I had my dog with me, my husband, and we were supposed to go to our company holiday party in 2 hours.  It was sheer panic.

But Justin was awesome and understanding.  He went above and beyond on his level of customer service and care and was able to get us a room.  Though the price was $179 for a queen, when I had paid $129 for a King with http://Hotels.com, at that point, I was just happy to have a room.

Another great thing is they don't charge extra for having a dog.

    Cons:

The doormen were unfriendly.  They wouldn't even help us hail a cab.  We waited for over 20 minutes to get a cab. Went inside to tell the concierge, and they basically said tough luck.

The room was also tiny and the bathroom was oddly shaped.

The windows had no vents, so no fresh air whatsoever for the entire stay.

This would have been a 2 star experience, but Justin was a shining star...so an extra star for you Westin!

I really like this hotel save for one thing: the untrusting mini bar.

The mini bar here is just odd. It's one of those contraptions with sensors that notice if you pick something up. If you don't put it back within a certain amount of time, it'll charge you automatically. A lock and key is enough security for that precious $4 can of Pringles in every other hotel. Why so suspicious, Westin?

Anyway, enough about that. Definitely LOTS of reasons to love about this hotel. Despite the mini bar, I think I may prefer it to the W nearby.

    Some of the goods:
    -super convenient location
    -friendly staff
    -Heavenly beds (srsly, heavenly)
    -clean rooms
    -big bathrooms
    -majestic lobby
    -decent gym
    -etc., etc., etc.

I loved this hotel... but I wasn't paying the bill. If I had been paying the $439 a night, I might be more critical. But, if you're not concerned about the expense (and SF hotels are generally expensive) this is a great pick!

Efficient valet, friendly and helpful staff at the desk, the concierge, and in housekeeping. They sold out of king size bed rooms (which is strange because my king room was pre-paid), so they gave me an upgraded 2-queen room on the 34th floor with an awesome view of the city and complimentary nuts and truffles. The room was immaculate, and comfortable. Nice toileteries, and a great iron (that matters on business!).

The gym was good for a hotel. Individual tvs, 10 treadmills, free weights and a few machines. Open 24 hours. Towels, water, and a selection of magazines.

Overall really great stay. Two minor low points: (1) No pool or spa, and (2) Bartender was really rude in the hotel bar.

This is a clean, modern hotel centrally located to Union Square and the Financial District. And there are two BART stops as well as MUNI stops right near the hotel making it convenient if you are visiting without a car.

The 'Starwood Preferred Guest' room that I had on the 22nd floor was clean and quiet, with floor to ceiling windows looking out over MOMA and the Moscone Center. And the 'Heavenly' bed was comfortable.

The only gripe that I have is that they charge ($14.95) for WiFi, even in the lobby, even for Starwood Preferred Members, which is not 'Heavenly'. Oh well.

Great location. Nice hotel with all the standard SPG perks. I would stay here again.

    Hello,
I have stayed at the Westin here multiple times. The staff is always kind and courteous. One thing i love about the hotel is that i have a dog and i still always get a nice room. A lot of pet friendly hotels put you in a run down room if you have a dog. The beds are awesome, the rooms are always clean, and the restaurant is hip with decent food if you dont feel like venturing out. All in all a great place to stay.

Not the best Westin I have lived in, but definitely great location and view. Don't even dream of parking here, or else prepare to pay  a hefty 35+ dollar parking price.

Recently, I used my SPG points to book rooms at the Westin Market Street, being Platinum has its convenience - I got my two rooms connected with a door, so that my friend and I can visit each other. Westin has always been guest-friendly and accommodating: all requests are considered even if it isn't a Platinum member request.

I felt terrible watching a staff hauling (literally) the refrigerator that I requested to keep my Chinese take-out from Z&Y Restaurants. I barely covered my conscience with a generous tip. Probably will never request a refrigerator again.

The rooms are clean, a bit on the smaller side, but very neat and classy. The bedding is always the best, familiar heavenly bed. Be careful not get the accessibility room, unless you need it. You won't get your heavenly shower-head, and the room is configured for accessibility, slightly different from other rooms. Disclaimer: Aboslutely Nothing wrong with that, just expect differences.

I like the square celling to floor windows at this Westin very much. It has a cosmopolitan feeling to it. But be careful, the views in the past 5-6 visits has ranged from beautiful view of the Yerba Buena, a fraction of the beautiful busy downtown SF, to garages, broken roottops, and other unsightly views.

Despite SPG point payment, I was double charged on one of the rooms, immediatley went to complain. I received a call from the manager Jeffrey Li. Who was friendly, but didn't return my subsequent calls checking on the status of credit reversals. That is a bit unpleasant, but at least all my expenses are probably reversed as they should be within a week. I guess when that happens, pick up the phone and make a call. At least, at Westins, they hear you out, do a much better job than many others.

I stay here every week, so I am a bit biased. The service is always impeccable, and the staff, from the front desk, to the valet and more, greets me by name and makes sure everything is taken care of.

As a Starwood Platinum member, the front desk frequently upgrades my room to a suite. Great, spacious rooms.

Geraldine at the front desk is a breath of fresh air!

For what you pay, it is not worth it. The location is fine, near Union Square so you can get to restaurants and shops.

The hotel is OK. Standard hotel room, but a little on the smaller side. The customer service was horrible. We stayed for four nights and not one of those nights did we experience friendly service. The concierge ignored us while she was on the phone, then got off the phone and worked on something without acknowledging us while we stood there staring at her! When we finally said something, she had no information to provide on breakfast places. The concierge!

The bar Ducca produces ok drinks but the bartender was rude to several customers and at one point screamed, "Will someone speak? Next person, speak!" My husband refused to buy a drink so we left.

We tried it out again later that evening b/c we didn't feel like heading to our room and the wait staff was slow so we had to go to the bar.

Overall, not the best experience for a hotel and for the price. They could have had a bad week but there were too many different employees that gave poor customer service that my only deduction could be that they do not care about customer service and definitely do not train their staff to provide it.

I gave it two stars b/c my husband and I decided to make the most of it...and I appreciated that the small hotel gym was pretty empty.
