Here about 4 times on our 7 night stay.
Food perfect, service - fast, spot-on
Just a wonderful place to have a drink or eat.

PS. Get the Lobster Chowder - you WILL thank me for it :)

Good hotel.

After traveling up and down Ka'anapali's beaches, it seems the Westin is the most up-to-date externally and has the best pools and beach in the area. The Westin has a large pool that is basically 3 pools connected together. Another separate "adults" pool sits above them. The pools have a few slides if you got kids, as well as a volleyball-type net and a basketball hoop.

You can reserve the beach chairs and cabanas. Also towels are available near the pools. The valets will also get you towels if you are headed out to an excursion in another area of the island.

Since we didn't peek into any other hotels' guests rooms we can't compare, though our room was decent. We were a bit spoiled as our wedding night stay at a local Marriott was upgraded (for free!) to a junior suite. However the Westin room was clean and mostly modern, save for the bath and toilet which was showing it's age a bit. We were on the very top floor in the very corner.

Like most rooms today it had a small refrigerator and a lock for safekeeping valuables. They hype up their bed, branded "the Heavenly Bed" like none other. It was a good bed. Not awesome.

It was nice to be a bit secluded, but wifi didn't work consistently there. I know what you're thinking "who needs Wi-Fi on a honeymoon??" But we wanted to check our reservations, especially airline reservations and this would've made things a lot easier. There is a "check-in" kiosk on the first floor with a computer for checking flights. However, most days we walked by, people were having trouble getting the computer to work.

Staff was generally very friendly. Save for one concierge girl who was always on Facebook and didn't seem like she wanted to answer our questions. The other concierge attendants were great, as were the valets and the workers at the front desk. The spa offerings were decent. The whirlpool was broken the day I went. We got a couples massage and it was excellent. It's outdoors so you get a nice massage while listening to the sound of the ocean.

The parking spots are cramped and the lot gets full by 9 most evenings - in addition to other times during the day at times. Valet is free though, not including tip.

If you're staying on Maui's west coast, I suggest checking out the Westin. Also, I think they are building a newer Westin slightly north of this location - seems like it will be pretty nice when complete. Something worth checking out if you plan to go to Maui down the line.

My husband and I honeymooned in Maui, September 2007 and stayed at the Westin. We LOVED it! We had let the hotel know that we were there for our honeymoon and when we arrived into our room there was a bottle of champagne from the Hotel, congratulating us on our wedding. So sweet of them! We had an ocean view room with a deck that we took full advantage of by having a few cocktails on it before heading out for the evening.

Where they are located there is a shopping area, the black rock (that's where you can snorkel) and tons of restaurants that are all in walking distance.

We enjoyed our time there and we look forward to going back. Oh, wait, we are!  We will be there in two weeks celebrating out 2 year wedding anniversary!

We love the Westin Maui!

We stayed here for our Honeymoon and it is a beautiful resort. The beds, which are marketed as "heavenly" were so comfortable. When we checked in, we were initially given a room with double beds, which they changed for us right away after we told them it was our honeymoon, also we had a bottle of champagne waiting for us when we returned from dinner.
The spa is on the smaller scale, but has a whirlpool, steam and sauna room. The pool was great. Overall, beautiful resort and very relaxing.

Looks like I'll be swimming against the current with this review.  While this is a gorgeous property and has all the bells and whistles, I'm disappointed in two areas; Staff and staff.  Most everyone I dealt with was pompous and self important.  I was given the impression many times that I was interfering with my requests.  One staff member reminded me several times that she was off at 5pm during our encounter and that I may need to come back.  Valets are just plain rude, particularly if you want to self park.  As you may have read in other reviews, there is never enough self parking and it is a huge hassle.  I will not stay at this hotel again

Where do I start?  Everything about the Westin Maui is awesome.  This was not our first time to this hotel and certainly won't be our last.  Our room was comfortable, of course, and had a great view.  The valet guys were by far the friendliest out of all the staff.  There were a couple guys in particular that really stood out and I wish I could remember their names.  They take good care of The Westin cat, Manapua whom we fell in love with last year.  One of my favorite things about this hotel is that they have an adult ONLY pool.  I was able to sit in the pool and read a book without kids splashing and screaming.  It was FANTASTIC.  There is a bar and Jacuzzi at this pool which is awesome and I even managed to take a couple naps poolside--the ultimate nap of all naps.  There is also a waterslide and 4 other pools.  The hotel is located right on the beach (super convenient) and Black Rock is a short walk away.  Also, Whaler's Village is right next door and we enjoyed all the shops.  The lobby is beautiful and it was relaxing to just hang out there on one of the comfy chairs and look at the flamingos, swans and other birds.  The gym was cool too, get there early otherwise it fills up.  I had a pedicure at the spa and it was wonderful.  The relaxation room was so peaceful and overlooks the ocean.  There really isn't anything I don't like about the Westin Maui and I'm looking forward to our trip next year.

Our stay at the Westin Maui was nothing short of amazing.

Check in was smooth, the room was spacious with a great view of the ocean, the pools and water slides weren't too crowded, the restaurant within the hotel and room service both had delicious food, the gym was nice and clean, the staff was friendly and attentive, and most of all it was aesthetically pleasing housing beautiful waterfalls, trees, flowers, and lots of animals all in the lobby!!

I really have no negative feedback to leave for this place, which is uncommon for me or anyone, but this place was just as good as it gets!

I see a lot of blah blah blah on this page.  To get the low down, read this:

If you want to stay at a resort on Maui, do it at the Westin.  Hawaii is mostly about relaxation and the Westin has the best pool of the surrounding areas.  87,000 square ft?  This is the hotel's ace in the hole.  You will be out here everyday of your stay and it is worth every minute.  CHECK!

You walk a little past the pool and you looking at Maui gorgeous coast line.  If you have a Volcano or a rum runner in your hand at this point; you are doing it correctly.  CHECK!

I'm sure the rooms vary from tower to tower.  The room we stayed in had a cali king, LCD tv, a beautiful view of the ocean off the balcony, dual sinks, and dual shower heads.  Leave your balcony door open for 15 minutes and birds will come in for a full assault.  This incident mixed with alcohol is ideal.  CHECK!

If you are a Starwood guest with a hot rate card, you will definitely enjoy your stay.   :D  Their food is well prepared and fresh.  Their drinks are alcoholic if you ask nicely.  Happy hour from 8pm to 10pm. The hotel is very close to everything you need.

So GO GO GO!!

As a Starwood Preferred Guest and a holder of a starwood credit card, I cashed in my points and booked a stay at this fabulous for $90 per night (substantial discount).  Amazing.

It's hard to choose what we liked best between the patented Westin heavenly beds with fine linens, flat screen LG tvs, ocean view, 5 pools with grottos, waterfalls, and two waterslides, swim up bar, perfect beach backing the hotel filled with tropical fish (fall into the water with your snorkel gear on and you are set), and the gigantic koi pond with flamingos and swans.

The location was about a half hour drive from the airport and near lots of local restaurants and shopping.  It's a touristy area but Maui is not a big island, and it's an easy drive to wherever you want to go.  I also have to commend the hotel for their excellent service.  The staff were all gracious, extremely happy to assist, and knowledgeable.

My only gripe: the $25/day "resort fee" that covers parking, two bottles of water, and gym use.  They should just adjust the base price for the room to incorporate the fee since it's non-negotiable.

We got upgraded to an ocean view room upon arrival -- what a gorgeous view!  Our balcony overlooked all the pools, grottos, koi pond, the ocean, and the legendary Black Rock.

As we were checking in, they upgraded our room to an ocean view for free, although it was double beds. That was fine for us since it meant an extra space to throw our stuff on. The view is spectacular, overlooking the five pools and the beautiful beach. The open air lobby is nice, the pond has flamingos, koi fish, parrots, waterfalls, the works.

The dry clean service was quick, ready the next day. Everything was nicely pressed too. My boyfriend forgot his razor so he called room service and they came by in less than 10 minutes.

Parking spaces are really tight as others have mentioned, but the furthest two rows have the bigger ones.

The location was great, close to the shops by the pier. Accessible by a shuttle service that comes by every half an hour. The shuttle takes you to where the Old Lahaina Luau is held, which is very convenient since there is open bar at the luau.

We were referred by our friends who own at the Westin Villas, so we had a really sweet deal. More like a steal, 6 days and rental car for $750! Because we're Starwood Preferred Guests we upgraded our room to an ocean view - 10th floor with our points. Our friends told the Westin we were celebrating our anniversary so they sent up a bottle of champagne. The view was amazing - my favorite time was watching the sunset from our balcony.

Like many have said, the Westin is perfect location wise. Right in the middle and next door to Whaler's Village. Plenty of restaurants - i loved the macadamia ice cream pie at Ono! Tropica was also perfect to watch sunset beach side.

We also did yoga for $12 and did a couples massage at the Heavenly Spa. Ladies, you have to ask for Paris! He was AMAZING!

We can't wait to come back to the Westin.

First of all, the TV is in a weird place like the other reviewers mentioned, but if you're indoors trying to watch TV on Maui, there is something wrong with your vacation to begin with.

What's with the 8am housekeeping?!  Do more than 10% of vacationers leave their hotel room by 8am?!

What's with the construction when it's pouring rain outside and they know every guest is probably in their hotel room?

What's with the parking spots that a Mini has trouble getting into?!

Now that the minor complaints are over and done with, this hotel is really beautiful.  The pools are gorgeous and there is an adults pool deck if you're like me and don't want screaming and peeing kids spoiling your vacation.  The lagoon area with the flamingos, waterfalls, and fish provides a really nice backdrop.

We didn't spend too much time around the hotel (Maui is so big!  Get out of the uber touristy Ka'anapali area!) but the staff was friendly and there was always someone around to answer questions.

They do charge you a $25 resort charge per day, which includes parking, wireless, bottles of waters, and some other things we didn't use.  Since most Westins charge you at least $20 for parking and $10 for Internet per day, this fixed resort charge is actually better.

The Westin Maui was the first time i got to do a few luxo things, and got to stay at such a nice tropical resort for my honeymoon. The new wife and I arrived and were kindly greeted upon arrival at the Westin Maui, got upgraded to a bigger room that looked out towards Blackrock, and were given a free bottle of champagne.

The first morning we ordered some room service breakfast, and ate out on the balcony. We charged our room with everything we ordered around the hotel, and at other Starwood locations. It was a nice life to only have to carry around a room key, and nothing else.

They offer Happy Hour drinks deals at multiple locations at the Hotel, and the bartenders were nice enough to suggest going to the right bar to get a better drink deal depending on what time it is.

They have a pretty fun water slide, but if you laydown from the top you can build up a ton of speed, to where you feel you're going to be flung out of the slide.

The Westin is in my opinion one of the best places to stay on Maui if you're young and want to be active.  The room rates are fairly good, and the hotel grounds are spotless.  I ate many meals at the poolside cafe and all were very tasty.  The cabanas by the pool are super relaxing and convenient if you can manage to reserve one.

The location is also very good, lots and lots of restaurants and shopping are just a quick walk down the beach pathway.  I'm not sure if they're renovated any more of the hotel but when I went, there was an old tower and a new tower.  Definitely make sure you get a room in the new tower as it's much nicer.

I had a great vacation and The Westin was a big part of it.  It's a beautiful resort complete with waterfalls, flamingos, gigantic koi in the pond, waterslides, multiple bars with daily happy hours, gym with all brand new equipment, and of course all the Heavenly accommodations/products.  The grounds are immaculate and the housekeeping staff is always working!  Their daily $25 resort fee is actually worth it with free wifi, bottled water in your room, self-parking, and gym use.  We got fresh pool towels (so plush!) everyday and the beach is right out front.

As for their food, it was a pretty limited to your typical brunch and bar menu.  There was a supposed fine dining option but it wasn't very appealing.  There's a coffee bar serving Starbucks coffee and I was pleasantly surprised to find "night owl" coffee in the lobby on my way out at 3 am for a drive to Haleakala Crater.

The staff is very helpful and friendly but beware of the concierge girl's timeshare offer.  Stay away and far away from the presentation!  If you an afford it, the Deluxe Ocean View room is amazing!  We reserved a Garden View room and got upgraded to a 9th floor room.  It must be a slow time of year.

Best place to stay in Maui! The beach is awesome. I've stayed here twice, that's right Bitches TWICE - jealous? I love coming here. Definitely splurge for an ocean side room, having a beer on the deck and watching the sun set everyday is awesome.  Yep thats right, it sets everyday! I splurged and got a massage, while I was here - Mother's Day special - I'm not a Mommy, but I still got the discount. The massage was AMAZING! The pools here are great and they have an adults only one -which rocks, not that I don't love kids. I just think they are only pretty when they are quiet or at a different pool....I've strolled down the beach and check out the other hotels in Ka'anapali and this one is definitely the best! Stay here, you'll love it!

Very nice resort. I always get a cheap room without a view when I travel because I don't spend much time in the room; however, I do stay at nice places because the amenities, location and atmosphere are always worth the price. Anyway, I was upgraded for free to a mountain-view room and really liked the vista. The pool was great and they have a fabulous beach with no rocks. The gym was good(yeah, I work out on vacation) and all employees seemed genuinely happy to be there and help you. The only drawback is the parking. The spots are very tight even if you have a compact car and there are not enough spaces to accommodate all the guests' cars. That was a problem I noticed at other Kaanapali resorts as well. I would definitely return here.

I think it's easy to overrate this hotel since it's in Maui. Everything seems better in paradise, but I really think the Westin missed the mark.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful, don't get me wrong. The rooms are insanely comfortable-can I fit the heavenly bed in my suitcase without anyone noticing? Prob not.

The restaurants are actually extremely delicious for hotel food-probably some of the best quick eats I've had in a hotel.

The hotel does an amazing job at segregating the children from the honeymooners, which is so important-I didn't fly in from NY to watch your kid run around in his diapers by the pool on my honeymoon.

However, the mark was sorely missed with the service. I just don't think the Westin upholds its image with the front desk agents or concierges it employs-this is a general theme I am beginning to see as I stay in more and more Westins.

First of all, they are on this time share kick in Hawaii-everywhere we went, we were begged and accosted to sit though time share presentations. It got overbearing and obnoxious. If I say no once, I don't want to be asked again by the same person for the entirety of my trip.

They went to far as to ignore our requests for dinner reservations until we agreed to sign up for a time share presentation. Rude.

Second, the front desk staff was completely apathetic. Housekeeping barged into our room while we had the privacy sign on the door at 9am. That housekeeper got an eyeful, for sure. Privacy sign+honeymooners=
...I'll leave it up to your imagination. FD didn't care.

Also, self-parking is ALWAYS full at this hotel, so you have to Valet it, which adds a few dollars here an there every time you need the car, so "free" parking isn't free.

And what's up with the resort fee?  The room rates don't cost enough already? C'mon, Westin.

We stayed at the Westin for 3 days of our 10 day visit to Hawaii and it was very nice. The lei upon arrival was lovely and I liked the water and flowers on toothpicks by the front door. It gave me the opportunity to have the traditional flower in my hair almost my entire visit.

The staff was really nice and the activities desk was awesome - they got us a discount on the helicopter tour and made our reservations for the Lahaina Luau which saved me from having to do it and they were able to charge it all to our room which made it so easy!

The room was OK. The layout was odd - refrigerator in the closet and you had to be laying in the bed or on the right side of the room to see the TV because the armoire was right in the way other wise.

The pools were nice, but cold!! I liked the lockers out by the beach to put our key and other small items in while we swam. The grounds overall were beautiful. The food was excellent. We had lunch and a few breakfasts at the pool restaurant and I was pleased. The beach bar shaved ice was pretty good also. Room service chicken pasta was excellent and so was the ice cream pie I ordered.

I have never felt more welcome and at home in any other hotel.  The Westin Maui is by far the best hotel in Ka'anapali.

The pools are really just so relaxing and fabulous.  The breakfast buffet is really quite delicious and I highly recommend it.

The rooms are nice, clean and the staff are very helpful and friendly.

I hope to come back to Maui at least one more time in this life and I hope to stay here again.

I loved this hotel! The moment we walked into the wide lobby, a doorman greeted us with fresh a lei and one of those twines for the bf. They had flamingos and two swans in their huge pond, what hotel has flamingos?? It was awesome.

We had a ocean view room, it smelled a bit like mildew, but overall it was adequate for our needs. Right behind the hotel was the beach and if you walk north along the beach, there's Black Rock Beach which is a popular snorkeling spot. There were kids running around the hotel the whole time, so def family friendly.

They lost one star because of parking which was a HUGE pain. They had this teeny little parking lot which filled up quickly so if you didnt get back to the hotel early you basically had to sit and wait until someone left. One night we had to circle the lot for about 20 min before hunting down someone that left.

A vacation should be relaxing, a break from work or school to unwind and forget about all your earthly worries.  For me personally, I have only find this kind of peace of mind in activities related to tropical beaches and warm weather.

Of the beaches I've been to, the Kaanapali beach in Maui is one of the my favorites.  About 10 years ago I visited the Westin Maui Resort & Spa which is situated right off the Kaanapali beach.  Being young and stupid I had no idea the incredibly good location of this luxury hotel, and the excellent snorkeling that could be had by simply walking the beach.

By sheer chance I ran into one of my friends from school in business class on the flight over to Maui.  He, his girlfriend and his parents were staying at a neighboring hotel.  They invited me to go snorkeling with them in the waters right off the beach.  In any family vacation, I was more than happy to break away from the parental units and agreed to meet them a few days into our stay.

Upon arriving at the hotel, I quickly understood why the Westin was such a big deal.  There was a lavish lobby, and a phenomenal outdoor man-made pool area where the very pale tourists were lounging and tanning.  The accommodations in the room were top notch, simply laying on the beds for a few minutes could cause a sudden narcolepsy-like crash into nappy time.

Their breakfast buffet was fabulous, I definitely recommend it for brunch. I found it funny all the different varieties food they had, I even remember they even had Japanese food!  probably for the large number of Japanese guests., but it worked out great for me, I've never had Japanese food for brunch!

After brunch, I headed to meet my friends, we met at the beach behind the hotel, and walked north up to a spot where the land extends quite a bit into the water.  I've read in other reviews this area is called "black rock"

This is a great spot for snorkeling, because the waves and currents seemed to be much milder in this area.  Additionally, the water is shallow and warm even pretty far out into the water.  Not 10 feet out from the beach there were giant sea turtles swimming amongst all the kids and other swimmers.  They glided gracefully and effortlessly through the water avoiding humans as they foraged for food. There are  all kinds of different fish, and I spotted a few eel-looking things, it was great.  The water was totally clear, so I had no issues with visibility even with goggles.

When swimming out past black rock, and the currents get a bit stronger.  The ocean floor drops, and the water is much colder, swimming for a extended period of time out there is much harder, even with flippers.  If you are not a strong swimmer, I'd recommend against it.  When you get tired of swimming, simply make your way back to shore, throw on some sun block, re-hydrate, and rest.

Although "black rock" is not part of the hotel, the close proximity of great snorkeling waters is a real boon for all the hotels on this beach.  And after a full day of snorkeling, the accommodations of the Westin were perfect.  I would love to go back.

Exceptional service, premium location and comfy rooms.

This was my first experience with staying at a "resort"  when visiting the Islands - it sure beats sleeping on Aunties couch, or staying at Gramma and Grampa's house!!

It took me some adjusting - I wasn't used to so many people converging at the same place at the same time. Being that everyone was on vacation, the rude and brash behavior that is so typical of crowded places was almost non-existent! Not to mention that the staff was so friendly, accommodating and oozed with Aloha!

The room was big, the bed amazing and having a small fridge was a plus. Our view wasn't the greatest, but I didn't really care because I wasn't planning on spending much time in the room.

Then there's the pool - or I should say...POOLS - 6 of them to be exact! Complete with the raddest (yeah, I said RAD) waterslide! I was feeling a bit self conscious walking up to the water slide, thinking some kid was going to rat me out for being too old to go down - but ironically, the adults outnumbered the kids in line! YEAH!! My mind kept wondering how the slide would feel after 3 shots of tequila...I didn't go there, thankfully!!

We only went to the pool later in the afternoon, otherwise, it was just way too crazy. Peeps get up at 6 am just to stake out their chairs for the afternoon. Me? I prefer to head off to a nice quiet and secluded beach, and avoid the screaming kids and oiled up dirty old men!

All in all, a beautiful hotel with a laundry list of activities to keep everyone in the family happy. Prime location, just steps away from the beautiful Ka'anapali beach.

I feel a little mixed.  I did really like this place. The location was great. You can just walk a little bit down the beach to the sheraton for some great snorkling. Also, the room was very comfortable.  And, the spa was great (I wish I would have discovered this earlier in my trip).

But, there were a couple of things that I thought could have been done a little better given that this is a resort and they bill themselves in this way. For example:
-They offer self-service parking in their resort fee. But, there was never enough parking. They know how many rooms there are and how many spots there are. One morning we had a snorkel trip reserved and needed to be out of the hotel at like 5:30 am. When we went out, the valets had parked other cars behind all of the self-parking cars. So, after we walked all the way to our car we had to walk all the way back to get the valet to move the car.  He was so unconcerned that we were running late, even though we said we were concerned about the time.  It was very, very frustrating.
-The customer service was a little hit or miss. A couple of times the hostess barked orders at me at the restaurant
-The pool/ocean seating situation is really unclear and you have to ask a ton of questions to figure it all out.  We were also given the wrong information the first time we asked.

But, overall, I did like this place.  The deal we got was really great, too.

Stayed here for 5 nights in April 08 & will be lucky if I get to come back. It was amazing.

The hotel is right on Ka'anapali Beach. You can walk to Whaler's Village to shop, or along the sidewalk of the other hotels.  You have to rent a beach umbrella or cabana & check out your towels, or you can get to the pool at a decent time & get a spot.

I could have stayed in the room the whole time & still loved the Westin! We could see the sunset, the beach & the waterfalls of the lobby area. It was relaxing & beautiful.  Bed was comfy & I seriously wanted to buy the little body pillow that they also sell. Fridge was perfect for H20 & beer & little coffee maker was nice to have, too. Flat screen TV in the room & internet access...but the layout was kind of crowded around the desk area so we just pushed it to the side.

Also...
- Free shuttle that will take you into Lahaina for the Luau
- Breakfast buffet rocks - lots of delicious food, omelet bar, fruit, oats, miso soup, etc etc.
- Other restaurant a little pricey
- Adult pool + 4 normal pools.
- Close to everything
- Gym was great~! Spin classes overlooking the beach, cardio & weights
- Fresh leis downstairs 24-7

Ok I am ready to go back!! :)

Maybe I'm spoiled because I just returned from fabulous Torrey Pines Hilton in La Jolla, Ca., but the Westin room that we were given was not what I expected at all.  It's surprising, not only because of the amount we spent, but because I've stayed at the Westin  in the past and was absolutly amazed.  Both comforter sheets had stains on it on arrival and the room just seemed dingy.  We booked through Expedia, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it (you know certain rooms reserved for web agencies).
Location is fabulous though, near shopping and right on the beach.  The pools are also fun.
Basically I would look for another venue before returning here.

We were here from 12/2/08 - 12/7/08.

We initially had a room on the 2nd floor overlooking the waterfall. Even though I was on vacation I still had to work. The plane ride over killed my laptop batteries so I was rushing to get to the hotel to plug in and send some emails. When we get to the room, I didn't have internet! I rush out to go to the business center but they charge like $.65/min...I just needed an internet connection!

Well I finally got connected while sitting in the lobby.  However, that kinda killed like a good 45min of our trip. Now that stress was over I realized how loud the room was because of the waterfall. So we asked the front desk if they could do something about that and they waived the $25/day resort fee + upgraded us to a mountain  view...which was great because I loved feeling the sun in the morning....some others might not like that.

This is what I loved about the place:
Free towel service (soft and fluffy too)
$5/day beach chair rentals - worth it I think.
close access to beach (unlike the marriott in wailea which we were about to stay at)
Pool area was amazing.
Excellent waterslide - don't go during the nonschool periods because I bet the kiddie are going to be lining up to get on the slide!
loved feeding the ducks and fish.
Free locker use to house your valuables while on the beach.

hmmmm...that's all I could think of now. What I didn't like was the resort fee (but got it waived)...and you the restaurants were very pricey ($30/person for a breakfast buffet).

I would stay there again.

One phrase "Simply Amazing!"  I would have to agree with the reviews prior to my own, this is one of the best resorts in Ka'anapali.   The Westin Maui is a great place to feel pampered and relaxed.  Upon arrival, we were greeted with his and her lei's.  A Koi pond lines the entry with flamingos wading in the water and parrots sitting on their posts.  The grounds were full of lusious greenery, pools and mini waterfalls.  Its worth taking the time to walk the grounds since there is so much to see here that doesn't meet the eye at first glance.  Swim through all of the pools, find the grotto and definitely try the waterslide.

The shores of Ka'anapali beach are just a few steps away from the hotel.  The rooms were clean and modern with a large 40" flat screen TV, comfy beds, large bathrooms, and a large balcony overlooking parts of Ka'anapali.  The resort itself offers free access to all of the pools, the gym (fully equipped, overlooking the pools), free secure parking to all guests (also Valet service) and they also have a salon/spa on grounds and several poolside bars.  Our room was on the 11th floor overlooking the shops of Whaler's Village, the Golf Course nearby and the Pacific Ocean....absolutely breathtaking.  Service at the Westin Maui was quick and convenient as we were able to check in and out quickly, pick up free towels for use at the pools and request extra Starbucks hot cocoa for our room (yumm).

After walking through most of the resorts in Ka'anapali, The Westin Maui seems to have one the most elaborate pool areas near the beach.  The whole experience was like a dream.  I would highly recommend this location to singles, groups, couples and families.  There's something for everyone here.

The pool - BEST IN THE AREA. Has a water park style water slide that everyone loves, from the kids to adults!

The wedding coordinator - CHRISTINE KICKS BUTT! thanks for making my friend's wedding the best experience for them (and us)

The setting - Fresh lei for guests, Cool Lemon Water + Flamingos, Koi and ducks in the open atrium lobby - who could ask for more?

Accommodations - 4 1/2 stars!

We went here on our honeymoon, so perhaps my vision was skewed by my trance-like euphoria (I know, puke, barf...). They had FLAMINGOS by the WATERFALL in THE LOBBY. If that sentence alone doesn't make you want to stay here, then you must be illiterate. Our room was big, airy and clean. The bed was the most comfortable bed I've slept on in a hotel. Everyone was so nice. Our room was upgraded and they brought us champagne. The pools are amazing. The waterslide is so fun (Yes, I went on the waterslide with the 8 year olds!). I have to stop typing now because I'm getting depressed wishing that I could go back. Only complaint: The pools are FREEZING cold. Like... almost unbearable.

It was good, great even. Clean rooms with service everyday, and there's a card that you leave out on the bed for when you need the linens changed, to keep the laundry under control I suppose and save water.

We were there 4 nights over the Labor Day weekend and the place wasn't jammed with tourists being all fleshy and loud. We dined a couple nights in the hotel and partook of their fantastic breakfast buffet on three mornings. Alcoholic beverages are way pricey, all of them being $9.75, with mojitos going for a cool $11. Ian and I kept saying we should go buy booze and keep in the room's fridge, which we totally could have easily done but never did for whatever reason I can't say. But saving pizza leftovers from the hotel restaurant was a cinch, and noshing on cold pizza the next afternoon was great.

Parking was annoying at first but then when you just accept that the lot will be full and you have to have the car valeted its okay. Its free valet at the point.

Concierge was great too, easily scoring us a same-day reservation for Mama's. And the ladies (Hiya Christine Coen!) at the American Express activities center were awesome, so book stuff like snorkeling and luaus through them.

The hostess podium at Ono restaurant was the only odd experience, though Ashley was a doll and we wish her well with her baby! But most of the host staff would blatantly ignore you and leave you standing there for a beat, which wasn't necessary, the place was never crowded or full.

Check out was too easy. They did pimp the spa a lot which wore on me at times, I'm not sure why. Solid time all around,we got lucky with a low low room rate so I wouldn't come back otherwise, too rich for my blood. But then I'm worth it.

Amazing hotel from the top to the bottom. There is nothing that I could say about this hotel other than I wish every hotel could be like this, operate like this and give people the experiences this hotel gives.

The staff is so excellent. The food is top of the line gourmet and the climate and beachfront location is amazing. All sides of the hotel are super but if you can get one with an ocean view you will be able to see the beautiful hawaiian sunsets. Not as beautiful as Key West, but breathtaking none the less. So romantic.

If you did nothing else but relax and wait for the sun to go everyday while never leaving the grounds and beach of the Westin Maui, you would have a great vacation. Give them a call, they may be reducing their prices now that the plane fares have skyrocketed and the tourist hordes have been cut in half.

This review is broken up into two portions, the hotel review and the spa review.

WESTIN MAUI RESORT review - three stars

Heard a lot of good things from about this place on Yelp and we got a really good deal going through the Hawaiian Air website and got a package deal so already on the price alone we got a pretty good deal on this place.

The resort and the property overall were really great. The pools looked amazing even though we didn't get a chance to swim in them. The workout room was pretty nice and a lot bigger than I imagined. They had about six treadmills, five weight machines, dumbbell style free weights, and an area for aerobics/ yoga.

We only had one meal on property which was the morning brunch. It was just ok. A three star experience if you ask me. There was no prime rib, the omelet station was lacking in ingredients, and a lot of the stuff they had out tasted as if it had been left out for a while.

Our room was very nice although a little awkward. The tv was not centered with the bed as the stand/drawer/closet unit it was sitting on was rather large and place off to the right of the bed. There was also a good sized circular table that seemed out of place right in front of the tv. We had a small fridge that was in a cabinet underneath our bar/counter area. The one thing that was kind of a downer about our room was the bathroom. While our room looked really nice, the bathroom wasn't the greatest. I felt my bathroom at home was better than at the Westin. The lighting was really dark in the bathroom and the tub space was really tight. Also, what didn't help is that we had drainage problems with the tub the first night we were there. The next day we talked to the front desk and someone fix it, but it was just something to note.

HEAVENLY SPA review - five stars

This spa was by far the best spa I've been to.

They do a ton of different treatments so there's something for everyone here. I got a 80 minute moor mud massage and my girlfriend had a spa package with a 50 minute massage and 50 minute facial. My treatment was just ok. I decided to try something new and  the masseuse I had didn't apply enough pressure as I had wanted. Meanwhile my girlfriend only had praise for the two treatments and staff that she had.

One of the highlights had to be the refreshments in the "calming area." While the spa does have a good menu of food items to choose from, it's the complementary items that really sold me on this place. Throughout the waiting area they have all types of dried fruits for you to snack on. For beverages they have water, tea, and lavender lemonade. The lavender lemonade is probably one of the greatest drinks ever invented and you could drink as much as you wanted.

The locker room and shower area was extremely nice and nicely decorated. I would have preferred a little more room in the locker area as at one point there were about six of us changing and getting in each other's way a little bit. However the rest of the locker room facility was nice. They had a whirlpool and a sauna and steam room as well. The sink area was adorned with everything you could possibly need to groom yourself.

Though my treatment was a little lackluster, I'd definitely go back here as I was really impressed with the spa as a whole--I'd just get a different treatment.

-------------------------

I'm going to take the average of my two reviews and give the Westin Maui Resort and Spa four stars.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights on our honeymoon. In early August, midweek, we paid $460 per night, plus $20 per night resort charge, plus about 11% in taxes. So about $530 a night. This was for an ocean view room with a king bed and a pull-out couch.

Most hotels on Ka'anapli beach cost about this much, I guess, but I still feel it was ridiculously priced. We could have found a one bedroom condo in Kihei for cheaper. But it was the honeymoon, and I felt like splurging (and we wouldn't cook dinner, so we didn't need a condo).

First the good:
* Location - right on Kaanapali Beach.
* 6 pools. It never got too loud where we were.
* Adjacent to Whaler's Village.
* Comfortable bed.
* "Free" internet (included in resort fee).

The bad:
* Our room didn't get made up one day. We were in the room from about 4-6, with the do not disturb sign out, and then left for dinner. No one came back to check on the room. We could have asked, but the service just wasn't great.
* Parking lot routinely full - but then they valet for free.
* Some things had threads hanging off. Ok, nit picking, but I did pay over $500 a night for this place.

It was good, they just missed some details to miss the 5 star rating. We stayed at the Dead Sea Marriott in Jordan back in May, and for half the price we got a much nicer resort: amazing, non-resort priced food, free breakfast, relaxing, etc. The Westin just wasn't as relaxing.

I felt like I'd won the lottery when one of my bff's won a trip here as a commission from her job. Why did I feel like it was my win you ask? Conveniently for me, she had just broken up with her long term boyfriend so I was next line as her +1, wohoo!  We got to stay here for 4 days, 3 nights completely free w/ airfare! So, given those were the circumstances it's pretty hard not to be on cloud nine for an unexpected vacay to Maui.

The Westin is top notch, excellent customer service, beautiful grounds, spacious rooms, very comfy beds and a nice large patio overlooking the pools and ocean beyond. We did have to go up and down from our room upon checking 4 times because the keys they gave us kept not working and we were on the total opposit end of building from the front desk so that was a pain when all we wanted to do was change, grab some food and wine before the dining places closed down (it was past 10pm).
The restaurants there were ok, nothing exciting on the menu and with most of hawaii and hotels it was very overpriced for basic food, but again, it was vacation so everything tasted just a little bit better. There are multiple pools that we enjoyed for at least 8 hours each day we were there. Our favorite was the adults only pool area so there werent families camping out all day and we were right by the bar. The bar tenders were awesome and even whipped up some special - low sugar - tropical drinks for us after we got sick of the heavy sweetness of pina-coladas- margaritas and daquiries - it was much appreciated by tthe second day.
It would be nicer if their restaurants and bars stayed up later - I think a late night pool side bar would do awesome here, but it has an old person, family vibe since everything closes so early and the pools are ghosttown come sunset. The resort is well located by a lot of other restaurants, and has a shuttle that can take you to the 'hotter' spots (not aht there aer so many super happening joints in Maui that I'm aware of) and shopping.
I aboslutely loved my trip and the hotel, the icing on the cake that made me very impressed with their service was our flight was delayed over 12 hours and luckily we found out before we left. They allowed us to store our bags after checkout that day, then we hung out by the pool all day, and they even had a room we were able to use for 30 min with our luggage to shower and get ready to leave before our flight all free of charge so we essentially got another full day at the resort that we didnt have to pay for. Thanks westin!

The reason only 4 stars, is the spa was bunk. Pretty setting and I liked using their gym, but my massage was totally lackluster, the therapist was not good, didn't once ask me about the pressure, poor lighthing, and i was in a couples massage room - 2 beds - but it was just me so it felt odd. If it was an affordable treatment it would have been ok, but it was westin prices for a blah massage. The coconut bath was nice, but i love coconut and the scents they used just didnt do it for me. I wanted to leave smelling yummy coconut on my skin and it did nothing of the sort. I left really bummed wishing I hadn't spent the money or wasted valuable tanning time. Ah well.
I will continue to recommend the westin as a top notch stay, but will tell people to avoid the spa.

I stayed two nights at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa.  I think this resort is the best from what I saw walking up and down Ka'anapali Beach.

Neighborhood
The hotel is right on the beach.  The beach is nice with small waves that is fine for children as well.  You can rent beach cabanas or poolside cabanas.  The hotel is also less than a five minute walk from Whalers Village with many stores and restaurants.  There are dozens of hotels nearby, Sheraton, Marriott, Hyatt, etc. There's are some time-shares and condos as well.  The Westin seemed to be the most active hotel with people utilizing all five pools.

Room
The room I got was very, very good. Clean, spacious, modernly furnished. Extremely comfortable bed. A desk with a network cable for the computer. A flat screen TV.  I was upgraded to an ocean view room on the 6th floor with a great view of the pools, beach and the Island of Molokai.  This was a very nice surprise, far beyond what I expected. The lanai was furnished with nice outdoor furniture.

Bathroom
Clean bathroom with a tub/shower combo. Separate vanity area from bath that also included a closet and mini-fridge.  No mini-bar.

Service
I didn't really bother the staff much, but housekeeping did a very good job, and check-in/check-out was a breeze.  As for the parking, there is open parking that is included in the resort fee ($20 daily) or you can use valet which they charged an extra $10 a day.  The valet and bell boys were very friendly and prompt.

Short summary
This is a very good resort.  Many amenities and close to everything you need in the Ka'anapali area.  They also have a free shuttle that will take you into Lahaina.

This hotel made my honeymoon a 1000 times more memorable! Service was impeccable including my abnormal request for a lint remover was accomodated!!

Spa -- staff is super friendly and the massages were completed by certified therapists. It was so good I went twice, then used the steam room later in the day to remove the salt water from my pores after the beach.  We even tried a few of the Westin Workout classes, which were done in their outdoor studio!

Food -- they have a good selection of restaurants, the outdoor breakfast cafe opens early and always had a good selection. It was a little pricey but that was expected since it is at the hotel.

Happy hour deals on appetizers and drinks were phenomenal at all the restaurants on site.

They have a couple pool bars so no matter what pool you are at you had access to food

Rooms -- clean and well kept.  Housekeeping was meticoulous throughout our 6 day stay.

Staff -- they were all very helpful and friendly. Some of the concierge staff did not seem confident in making recommendations or were trying to hard to get us to a timeshare meeting!  Don't go and try to claim your free gift as it will be only given after you agree to a timeshare video and visit.

Location -- the best!!! right on the beach, and within a short drive of some of the best restaurants in Maui, 30 minutes from the airport, 10 minutes from Whale Watching, and 2 minute walk to the beach to catch a catamaran!

Next time in Maui, I will stay here if I intend to be on this side of the island.

This is a review for the SPA since we stay at the Westin Villas.

The staff is very attentive and friendly but not annoying. The waiting area is a great place to even see whales at this time of year (February).

This place is pricey but it is full service with the sauna, steam, jacuzzi, and relaxation lounge so it's worth it. Platinum SPG members get a 20% discount as of this writing so don't forget to ask for it since they don't always remember.

I had the hot stone massage treatment - my first time and it was awesome. The massage therapist was very good.

Definitely worth the time and money.

This is a review for the spa only.

WOWEE. Super nice spa. Granted, we've never been to a spa, but this was pretty nice. We got a couples massage. He snored, and drooled a little. I say that's worth 5 stars.

Then I got a facial. It was good enough for me to consider buying their products. I'd say that's pretty good.

P.S. The hotel looked nice.
