Rule #1 of  attending a wedding in DuPage County:  stay in DuPage County if you have even been in the same room as someone who was  drinking.

That being said, I had a wedding over labor day weekend at this lovely suburban outpost and made a very wise decision to stay put.

The hotel is very easy to spot, looming over the perimeter of Yorktown Center.  There is so much free and convenient parking I had to giggle when it said "Overnight Valet $4)  I honestly don't think the guys get much action.

The lobby is very stylish and contemporary with seductive seating groups located throughout.  The sound of gently rushing water greets you and you make your way to the front desk.  The check in desk is an odd set up and was very inadequately staffed given that a large group was enroute from the wedding and about to check in but fortunately for me, I had already handled my check in arrangements and payment, just had to grab a key.

The rooms are standard size but have a very zen like quality to them.  The beds are absolutely divine.  Huge flats creens that were easy to operate (not usually the case) and a very good sized bathroom with enough mirror space for two chicks to primp pre wedding.

Housekeeping was very, very quiet in the morning (did they know we had most of the floor) and made it possible to sleep in.  Checking out was a disaster, ten deep and then some.  I actually went back up to the the room to auto check out only to return to see a line that hadn't moved.  They did inadvertently charge my friend's debit card three times for the room, but once that mess is cleared up, it will be a good value!

The place is a bit overrated. It looks like they tried to be luxurious and didn't follow through in certain areas. I would really only come here if you need to be local and get an amazing rate (I did through Hotwire. This was the highest rating I could find close to the area on Hotwire, which is also why I felt a bit disappointed).

Example: You get a LCD HDTV in the room (I just had a basic room), though a lot of the time I would get 'no signal' on certain channels, or a scrambling effect as you would find with an antenna (even if it was a channel like TNT) and the remote had serious lag. Random times a channel would actually say "SCRAMBLED"

Then there were certain little things missing that I usually find in other hotels. Those little things make me smile (even if it's a shower cap that I never use. Not included, btw). No fridge. Hairdryer had hairs hanging all over it. Did not sleep much with the bed/'comfort', (even got a little itchy, but I won't knock them for it since it could just be hotel paranoia on my part). No magazines/paper. No free wifi ($10 for a night. Make sure no one knows your name and room, that's all the portal asks for and it charges to the room tab). In the end, I got kind of bored. Whenever I've heard Westin, I've always thought it'd be somewhat upscale, but so many other hotels had all these things standard. I have to wonder if their priorities are off when they have HDTVs in each room (for like 3-4 local channels which aren't always broadcasting in HD, HBOHD and a few others which never worked for me) and Xbox in the lobby.

FYI, this is also a pet-friendly hotel. This didn't factor into my rating, but I didn't know and someone I was with is scared of dogs and had an issue if someone was coming in the elevator with a dog.

I just stayed at this Westin while on business outside of Chicago. The hotel hosted a convention that I attended as well and it was very well organized.

The room itself was really nice considering the location of the hotel and the price. The bathroom was spacious, and the soaps and shampoos they offered were awesome. I usually roll my eyes when I see that hotels take the "shampoo/conditioner" route. Ladies... am I right or am I right.. you CAN'T brush your damn hair if you use a shampoo/conditioner combo! I let out a sigh of relief when I saw that they offered both shampoo AND conditioner, in separate bottles :) It also smelled really nice!

The TV in the room was a big 32" flat screen and the room had a giant window. The view wasn't spectacular but the hotel is basically in the middle of nowhere. The bed was awesome. One of the best night's sleep I've had in a long time.

Even the lobby, the elevators and the hallways of the hotel were really nice. I found it funny that the voice that announced the arrival of the elevator had an English accent. "fourth floor". haha. Cheesy.. but cute.

I'll have to Yelp it separately but I had some cocktails at the bar downstairs. I think it was a Harry Caray but it was actually part of the hotel itself. What an awesome bar! The bartender was really friendly and he was great at entertaining everyone sitting at the bar. I learned about 10 new bar tricks! Pretty neat.

Great convention center, pretty sweet rooms, actually, but the view to the east, of the downtown in the distance - that stands out.

It's a nice hotel but why am I being charged $9.99 a night for Wifi access ?
They also messed it up since the Wifi in my floor wasnt working for 2 days. They connected me to a tech support service when I was just requesting they restart the Wifi router and they connected me to an Indian or Pakistani tech support (whaa?? I just wanted a reboot on the router and not a total reconfiguration here) Do all 4 star hotels charge for internet access? I could have sworn this was free when I was just in Travelodge recently and that's just a 2 star hotel.

Nice location, clean rooms and the gym was clean and just about right (lack of air vents though). Indoor pool was nice and there's a mezzanine patio for sunbathers. Now if they can only work on the Wifi , they'll be all set.
Oh wait the refrigerator in my room wasn't working. I think they loaded it up with a lot of junk food which normally dont need to be refrigerated and decided to just keep it switched off (who puts 3 cans of Pringles in their fridge?)

Such a nice hotel, easily a 5 star rating...if only they didn't mess up our room reservations!

I stayed here this past Saturday for a wedding, and I was simply amazed at how clean and inviting this hotel really is. You walk in the front doors, and right away you are greeted by a pleasant concierge. Very helpful, very informative, the concierge walked me over to the front desk and I was able to book a room for the same night with no fuss.

The bride and groom had a different experience. They booked their honeymoon suite about 6 months ago, and they gave it away to someone else staying in the hotel. NOT COOL! They did however try to make up for their mistake, and gave them a nice suite with a view of the Chicago skyline.

The rooms are very spacious and the various features are all brand-new: LCD TV, bathroom fixtures, lighting, furniture. It was all good! OH! And I turned the air down to 52 degrees, and the room was absolutely freezing, LOVED IT! Most hotels stop at 60, which it never gets down to anyways. Not this Westin!

I was able to set-up a late check-out time because the bridal party met up for breakfast the next morning, so check-out was at 1:00PM. Most hotels are not this accommodating, so I was just impressed all the way around.

If you find yourself in the burbs and need a nice hotel for a reasonable price ($129.00), then hit up this Westin.

While visiting family in Chicago, I chose to stay in this Westin, right on the edge of Yorktown Center.  I think it was the first time I stayed in a Westin, and the experience was a bit mixed.

The hotel was easy enough to find, since it's a fairly tall building standing alone on the edge of the mall.  Inside, the front desk was not hard to find, as others said, though it was several small desks instead of one big one.

The guy working at the desk wasn't very welcoming to me though, and seemed more interested in chatting with the older couple ahead of me.  When it was my turn, he just asked the basics and then sent me on my way.

My room seemed nice enough, with very nice furniture and amenities.  However, the room overlooked the swimming pool on the floor below.  No one had mentioned this, and the noise was ridiculous.  Whoever thought this would be a good idea for a room is kidding themselves.

I called to get my room switch, and they promised to send someone up right away ("in 5 minutes") to exchange keys.  I waited for 15 minutes, then had to call again.  Then wait some more.  Finally, after maybe 20-25 minutes in all, someone did come up, and I was moved to another room on a different floor.  The view was of the parking garage and a roof, but at least it was quiet!

Other than this initial experience, my stay was pretty nice.  The beds were really comfortable, and I appreciated having a flat screen TV to watch while relaxing (recovering?) from a day out with my family.  The room service was decent and there was a minibar available too.

I think the only other problem I had was on my final day, when they never picked up my breakfast order (doorknob hang tag thing), and wouldn't take my order on the phone because it was too early.  I just checked out and got breakfast elsewhere.

I'm unsure if I'd recommend staying in a Westin due to my initial experience.  I wondered if I should have been wearing something fancier, like a golfing outfit, or perhaps a ball gown and tiara, and then they  might have paid me better attention.  Hopefully the other ones aren't like this, because the room itself was definitely worthwhile.

If you find yourself in the western burbs and are looking for a nice hotel- the Westin should fit the bill.

Located at the eastern edge of the Yorktown Mall shopping Center, the Westin offers up all the expected amenities of a Westin (including those amazing heavenly beds!) and some local Chicago flavor with Harry Caray's being on the premise. There is also an indoor pool and pretty good workout center.

Within the hotel is also a large conference center which is great for meetings.  Their service staff is efficient and the food service is also surprisingly good (try the beer cheese soup)

My biggest gripe is that you have to pay for wi-fi throughout the whole building.  In the individual rooms- it runs $9.99 and in the main meeting rooms- it runs $300 a day for up to 15 people ( a bit of a challenge when there are 70 people in the room!)  I long for the day when wi-fi is just as expected as the pads of paper and pens that litter the tables!

If you are driving (and who isn't, it's the burbs!) there is plenty of free parking out front or a multi level parking garage in the back.

Next time you are looking for a place to stay in the western burbs- give the Westin a try.  One night in those heavenly beds and you may never want to stay anywhere else!

Where the hell is the front desk?!?!?!?!

Seriously ... Where the hell is it???

After you walk through the doors for a few hundred feet and ask yourself the above question, take just a few more steps and you'll find it. It's almost easier to pick up a phone and call the front desk than to find it ...

After I wandered around what I guess they consider a hotel lobby (unique and untraditional) to their "front desk" and got checked in, I was happy to find the comforts of a fine Westin room.

My room was grand! Plenty of space, nice 37" LCD TV and a bathroom that was larger than my home bedroom. The king bed was blissful covered in Koni Kojo (http://www.kojoworldwi...) linens (the duvet was heavenly. The staff and their service was excellent; polite, welcoming and friendly. The WestinWorkout gym wasn't bad, ten cardio machines (more than I've seen at most hotels), dumbells up to 55lbs and only five weight machines (no combination machines).

Five stars for making my experience a memorable night to remember.  The idea was to get a room at the hotel that my hubby happened to be working at that day. The hotel accommodated us on the spot. With no reservations for a room with a king size bed ($129) +tax. The hotel also allowed for early check in (Check in time = 3pm).  We walked up to the desk at 11:30am.  I dropped off the man and went up to enjoy the room.

The hotel itself is fairly new, it has that city feel of a hotel that is up and coming (or already there) look about it.  The lobby was open with mirrors on the wall and lots of plush seats with purple pillows.  One of the lobby walls is a floor to ceiling waterfall with video images of sea life displayed.  I would not mind sitting there to people watch, but I did not have the time.  I wanted to shop.  Next door to the hotel is Target, and Yorktown Center even an AMC movie theater.  I needed to prepare for a romantic evening and everything a woman like me would need for a night without the kids, and alone with the husband, was at my fingertips.

The room was roomy and spacious. It carried all the standard amenities. The bed was luxurious and inviting, but I did not have time to take a nap. The bathroom was also spacious with all the complementary toiletries.
To all the smokers, the hotel has a fierce no smoking policy in your room. If even the slightest evidence is found that you were smoking in the room they will charge you $200 on your bill for clean up.
The staff was pleasant and accommodating.

Side note
A friend of mine had to nurse her baby but the bathroom next to the banquet facility had no chairs, so she proceeded to nurse the baby in the hall.  Westin staff saw her dilemma and immediately set her up in a private room off to the side.

The hotel houses Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse and Holy Mackerel restaurants.  We were able to get late dinner reservations to start out our romantic evening celebrating each other.

Check out time is 12:00pm, but we had to get back to the kiddies, and back to reality, by 11:00am.

Sorry, folks, but this isn't a typical Westin.  What happened to the Heavenly sheets?  This hotel was overlooked when they were passing them out.  I had better sheets on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship.  The sheets were scratchy, the towels were stiff, and they didn't replenish the shampoo or soap.  This is a disappointing Westin.

So I'm planning my wedding for next year which means I need to start booking my reception hall now. So my fiance and I really love everything about the Westin from it's gorgeous looks to the awesome service. It's minutes away from home, close to the major expressways and convenient for all our guests. Everything is too good to be true. So wrong! I spoke with the most polite event specialist, she's great, really! But when you have to put down a nonrefundable deposit of $2500 just to taste the food, not cool! So, even that wasn't going to stop us but if I'm spending over $45,000 on 1 day for just the food, it better be good! So one saturday night my fiance and I went over to the Westin and respectfully interveiwed a few guests coming out of a function. Everyone said it was mediocre. One man couldn't even explain what he ate. He said it was some kind of rolled up steak and it was dry! I asked another man and he said  that he ate breakfast, lunch and dinner in the banquet facilities and he didn't care for the food either. They over cooked the hard boiled eggs....eggs are easy so I don't understand that! he also said that he wouldn't recommend having a wedding there. I'm glad we did that because now I have my final answer and I know I won't have my reception there. That really bums me out! I had my hopes up and everything but if the food is not good then that's all the guests would talk about at a wedding. That's not happening at mine! Awesome atmosphere, but make sure you eat before you go to any event there! Oh and by the way, Harry Carey's food is totally different from the banquet food. The Harey Carey's food is good!

I'm still laughing @ Ryan's review.  Yes the location of the front desk is a little crazy 'cuz it's actually 3 small stations set up in the back of the lobby.  But the place is beautiful and I heard first hand from the President of Lombard that the lilac color ties in w/Lombard's history of being the lilac capital.  Anyway, the hotel is sexy, sleek and full of the Westin's usual enhancements, i.e. Heavenly Bed, Heavenly Bath, Heavenly Whirlpool...heaven, heaven, heaven!!!  Nice big pool area w/comfy chairs and the whirlpool...did I mention the bomb whirlpool??!?!?!?  It's actually just an average whirlpool just the fact that I was in there alone was the part that made it better!  Super friendly staff fulfilled every need of mine.  Pretty mirrored elevators, plasma tv's in ea. room.  The weekend we stayed @ the Westin there was a Toastmaster's convention, youth hockey tourney, wedding, engagement party and some other events I can't recall but we didn't hear any noise in the hallway outside our room despite having youthful, energetic hockey players making trips to the ice machine down the hall frequently...no noise!  My family had a double queen room and the 3 of us were very comfy.  Having Target w/in walking distance was an extra welcome perk!  This place is perfect for a quick weekend getaway!!  The only issue I had, and I'm sure this doesn't happen all the time, was since there were so many events being held @ the same time, parking was TIGHT but have no fear....the Heavenly Bed will erase all your parking concerns.

Really nice hotel in suburbia hell.  I stayed here last week after I spent the previous night at the Hyatt Chicago (awful! - also reviewed), this was such a nice change from the supposed four star hyatt.  This is much closer to a four star hotel.  I was greeted by a friendly doorman after my $70 (?!!) cab ride from the city.  The entrance is very large and open and I wasn't sure where the front desk was either I found myself at the bellman stand with my credit card out ("checking in??"), probably not the first time that happened.  than I walked to the end of the hall and was checked in by a polite host.  They have a pretty soothing nice waterfall in the back which is nice while you are waiting for your room on the leather couches.  The hotel is pretty big.  The rooms are pretty large and the bathroom is adequate.  I love the beds and the threadcount is high on the linens.  The flatscreen is big and the minibar all too well stocked.  The place is very clean and fresh with fresh flowers scattered throughout.  Unfortunately, they don't have a real spa, but do keep a massage therapist on hand for in room treatments.  I don't know what the cost was for the room, but I'm guessing reasonable.  It has a harey cary's downstairs which is good for the mostly out of town business visitors.  This place is too far from the city for any real fun, but do offer a complimentary hotel car for a five mile radius.  I went to the worst bar/club I've ever been too where I paid a cover because of that hotel car (North Shore Bar?), awful!  I should have stayed at the hotel bar eating potato chips and making up stories with the other business blokes.  Overall a good place if you absolutely have to be in Oak Brook.  If you have your own transportation stay in the city and drive to the corporation you are visiting in Oakbrook.  There really didn't seem to be much to do here or anywhere easy to get to besides the mall.
