12 reviews for The Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas
The BF and I just got back from our fabulous 7 day trip to Maui, and the Westin was a great place to stay. It is a timeshare, so if you're a DIY'er or someone that doesn't want to eat out for EVERY meal, or doesn't want to deal with when the cleaning service does or doesn't occur then this is the place for you. The staff was fine - nothing exceptional, and attitutude at some points. The only people that were consistently nice and helpful were the valets - all of them, all the time were on it and helpful.
They had some nice features that I wish were more regulated though, like the adult pool. There is a designated adult pool, yet there were rugrats all over the place. I like kids, I just don't want to worry about them kicking over my mango daiquiri or dropping a duce in hot tub (which totally happened and was taken care of quickly)...it kinda bummed me out though.
I kinda hated that they wanted to charge everything to our room too. My BF treated me to this fantastic trip, so I wanted to pick up the tab on some stuff - as a small gesture - but it was always a hassle to have my card charged or for someone to actually take my cash.
Overall though, I was swept away by the romance of it all - inclusive of mediocre staff and ankle biters. The property is fantastic and secluded, so you don't have to worry about mass amounts of tourists unless you're looking to mill around with them. I can't wait to go back.
So my review is based on our expectations and what we like to get out of a vacation. This was not at ALL the property for us.
The Property-
The grounds are nice and clean but they are not on the REAL Ka'anapali beach. The resort is about 1.5 miles past the real Ka'anapali which is fine but we were expecting to be able to walk everywhere and be on black rock.
The property is not stroller friendly. It's VERY hard to get around with a stroller on the property. Also you cannot take a stroller on the shuttle to get to Lahaina or Ka'anapali so for us the convenience of the shuttle was a waste. In fact, one driver was really nice and let us get on with the stroller but the driver on the way back said no so we had to hike back (1.5 miles) with a 3 month old and a 5 year old....would have been fine if we had planned for it but it was bedtime and every parent knows that is a recipe for disaster.
The Villas are VERY much set up as a time share property. There is only one "fine dining" restaurant on the property that is only open Thurday-Sunday. We ate here once and did not have a good experience at ALL. The hostess treated us like she was the queen of the place and that we were lucky enough to get in (the place was empty). The food was mediocre at best.
There were 2 "diners" on the property which were fine for a quick drink or sandwich.
Pools-
The pools were nice and they had a cool pirate ship pool for kids ages 1-4 that was fun.
Service-
Definitely not the Aloha spirit here. There really isn't a maid service so you kind of need to clean up yourselves. We called 2 times for service and they only came one time. When they did arrive we only received attitude from them.
So IF you want to do it all yourself, cook, clean and such then this is a nice property...just was not the place for us.

I stayed here in March 2009 and was able to do so because of a special rate we received after a friend recommended us to the hotel. It is a time-share resort and we knew going in that we might be "invited" to partake in a presentation about the property. That said we received a great per night rate, $75 resort credit and a deep discount on the rental car for our 5 night stay.
I used the $75 towards their spa service. It was a lovely place with all the amenities that any high-end spa should have. I spent nearly 5 hours there for my treatments (a facial and massage) and just relaxing and using all their facilities. I had one of the best times in that spa! They also have a fully equipped and spanking new fitness center.
Their grounds are spread out between two buildings. They have direct access to the beach and also have a nicely designed pool area. There are also three restaurants on the premises - we ate at the casual one for a breakfast buffet and had drinks there in the evening. Because the rooms have full kitchens there is a grocery store/deli in the main building.
The hotel is located on the end of Ka'anapali, so you will need to drive to get to the center of the action. It's not more than two intersection lights to get there.
Most of all even after we declined the invitation to the presentation, we were still able to use the additional $100 resort certificate to pay for all our resort charges. We never felt any pressure from the staff - just a genuine aloha spirit that really made our trip memorable.
Ideal resort for: couples, honeymooners and families with small children.

Great for couples, fat chicks, and families. Definitely not a go to place if you're single and looking to meet people. You will feel inadequate here as a bachelor and if you're not in the best shape you'll feel like a gladiator. *laughs*
Okay so not everyone is fat. But you're not stepping out of the pages of Vogue that's for sure.
Plenty of space in the rooms/suites. Nice kitchens, washer and dryer in each room. Staff that is good but can be a little slow, and a great beach off the front for snorkeling. Drink specials at the bar daily, happy hour, hot tubs/pools everywhere and even a pirates pool for the kids.
Barbecues outside, plenty of parking, nearby stores, and decent restaurants on the property. Just watch out it seems like each building has someone downstairs trying to sell you a time share.
Date Rating: 7 (it's only so high because if you bring a date here they won't get distracted by someone else, everyone is with someone)
Pick up Scale: 1
Strong Suggestion: Find something else if you're young or single.

I couldn't have asked for a nicer resort to stay in. I stayed at the North villas for a little over a week and I was impressed by the newly built accommodations right from the beginning. September was the best time to go and all the staff were relaxed and kept saying how nice and slow that time of year is for them.
The snorkeling right off the beach in front of the villas is some of the best in the area. I took a snorkel trip, and while fun, the amount of fish and quality of water just didn't compare. You can also rent chairs for $10/day without a cover, or $20/day with a cover at the beach area. Pricey, but worth it. They even have a strong man carry them and set you up in the spot of your choice.... but for that price can they do any less?
The pool and the pool-side bar/grill are both fun places to relax if you spend all day at the beach and want to get away from the sand. I suggest the Volcano drink. A stronger version of a traditional Mai Thai (our favorite waitress got us hooked on). They also have delish Maui Onion Dip and Chips that you can order and salsa and guacamole for snacks.
The two rooms, either a one bedroom or studio, are both equipped with a full kitchen, large bathroom with jacuzzi tub, and separate toilet and shower set up. Perfect for a large group or staying in to BBQ right down by the pool.
Although these are vacation ownerships we did talk to a couple that somehow found the rental on Expedia. Since it is so new, and we went at a slower part of the season, maybe that's why they found this place online.

We recently stayed here for a week in May. We thought it was the perfect time to go - not to hot, no rain and not a lot of kids since the aren't out of school yet!
These are timeshare properties that are managed by Starwood Vacation Ownership. On the property there is a general store, restaurants, bars and concierge services. Courtney was our personal concierge and she was so nice and really helped out with great suggestions. The actually have a concierge in every building. All the other staff were amazing as well...always there to help you.
The property is just amazing. It is right on the beach and the buildings and landscaping are top notch. We had a one bedroom premium villa that had a full kitchen. The condos were very upgraded with granite counters and huge bathrooms. We were in building 2 on the 3rd floor and had an amazing view of the ocean from our balcony. You can also walk up to the newer north towers and visit the restaurants and pool. We preferred the North pool as it had fewer kids. The bar staff were always walking around asking if you wanted anything to drink which was great!
The only reason I docked a star was for the Pulehu Restaurant where we ate at the buffet on Mother's Day morning. They only had one hostess and she was also the buser so it took forever to get seated. They were also understaffed in the restaurant so it was hard to get service. The buffet was also just mediocre for it being their "high end" restaurant. The other reason was that I got a sandwich at the Ocean Pool Bar & Grill and the next day I was extremely sick and my DH got a "hand made" pizza and it was still frozen in the middle.
All in all it was an absolutely wonderful place to stay on vacation. Definitely in the "higher end" resort area!

My boyfriend and I just got back from a 4 night stay at the Westin Villas and loved everything about the hotel. The hotel staff was wonderful, the grounds were beautifully kept, and the room was very comfy.
After reading some reviews from fellow Yelpers, I asked to be upgraded to an ocean view room and to my surprise, the front desk woman had already upgraded us for free.
I asked my boyfriend if he would be happy to go back there, and his response... "Can we go next month?!" I took that as a yes! :)
This was our first trip -- lovely property; our villa is in the South building. We had an ocean view room overlooking the big pool. It is a little noisy -- lots of families with small children! The grill was good; husband got hooked on the Volcano drink, my favorite was the Endless Summer. Fine dining wasn't our best experience on Maui, and maybe that's why the restaurant is only open Friday - Sunday. Didn't use the TV's but listened to Hawaiian Radio when we were in our room. Took advantage of washer/dryer, and cooking facilities in room are really nice. Snorkeling out front of the hotel is awesome. Don't miss it if you like to watch those fishes. Staff is nice. Only four stars because our five stars are reserved for the Westin Villas in Princeville -- that's still our favorite!

This place is a wonderful spot for families and groups but it could be iffy if you're a single or couple that likes more traditional hotels.
These are timeshare properties that are managed by Starwood Vacation Ownership. There's a grocery, restaurant, bar, and concierge services. They also have shuttles between here, the Westin Maui, and Sheraton Maui.
It has the Westin feel but with condos that have kitchen and washer/dryer and big tub in every room.
There is beach access which is very convenient and there are kitchens in the units which can save you money and calories when you don't want to eat out.
The gym facilities are decent but it can get crowded.
I took a much deserved mancation at this exquisite resort. I went just after Christmas and it was a busy time for the place - lots of families and groups due to the holiday and new year events in Maui. If you are looking for a single scene, this is NOT it. Given my status as a married man, it made for the perfect spot to get away from faxes, emails and phone calls. The accomodations are spacious. Upon arrival, I was upgraded to a one bedroom and it is like living in a small to medium sized apartment. Full kitchen, laundry and two TVs with a DVD player and Bose sound system. The lanai opened up to the island view (there are some with an ocean view) but it was picturesque and tranquil- perfect for that good read of a novel or writing your memoirs. There are so many activities it would make no sense to write them here. Suffice it to say, between the perfect and sometime spacious beach settings, the snorkeling and the pool, you have enough for a get away to recharge the batteries without having to prove your manhood as a stud every time you step out of the water. The restaurant serves delicious food, too. The staff here is simply outstanding. They go out of their way to make sure you have the time of your life. If she is at the Concierge desk when you arrive, ask for Candice or Dori. It is like talking to a best friend. Maui itself is gorgeous and the Resort provides a free shuttle to and from neighboring properties like the Sheraton, Hyatt and Westin Resort. Also, the shuttle takes you to Lahaina shopping districts and a local market. Overall, well worth the cost to stay here as this is a fabulous location to rest and get away from the stress of your work or for families to enjoy a great island.

We stayed here for our honeymoon in October 2007 and I think if we ever go back we have to stay here or somewhere like here. We stopped at the Westin Maui and the Sheraton Maui when we used the shuttle to get into town, and they were very nice but nothing compared to our villas!! When you walk in you are greeted by the bellmen and then offered water with pineapple floating in it, which is so refreshing and delicious. Then as you make your way to the front desk, all you can see is a picture perfect view of the pool and ocean through the big open wall just opposite the front entrance! It really is something that everyone has to experience! And the rooms...AMAZING! Little condos with all the amenities...including a washer/dryer combo, full kitchen and huge bathtub. The restaurant is decent, but we definitely liked exploring Lahaina and other towns in Maui for more interesting restaurants. There is also a small grocery/convenience store next to the main lobby which is very cute. The concierge men and women were very friendly and offered to book everything for us so basically all we had to do is say where and when and it was taken care of! Overall...I believe that staying here made our stay in Maui one of the most memorable vacations we will ever have!!

Just stayed here for 5 days and purchased ownership in Starwood Vacation Plan. This place is Awesome. Beach is great to snorkel or swim. We saw giant sea turtles and swam with them 2 days we were there. Quite the experience. Rooms are beautiful, everything you need is there. bring swim suits and tee shirts and enjoy. I can not wait to go back.
