Typical Westin with all the fancy accoutrements.  Easily accessible from the departures curb at DTW, enjoy the nice walk down to the main desk.  The main lobby is spacious and beautiful.  Loved the submerged Zen rock garden which abuts the restaurant.  Everything is decorated in a sparse, modern style with Asian elements.

The bed was large and pretty comfortable.  Enjoyed the overly large 42" LG (not HD, however).  Plenty of room to lounge around.  Marble bath a nice touch.

Checkout a breeze.  We wished we did not need to check luggage, as the Westin has its own NWA ticket counter and security entrance onto the A terminal.  Checking bags took us an additional 30 minutes of essentially walking around in a large circle.  For the business traveler this hotel is an ideal choice, but only if flying NWA

This Westin has everything You would expect The Westin to have... The bath robes, the comfy bed, in room starbucks coffee, flat screen TV, etc....  That being said, the restaurant inside this Westin is a let down.  The other Westins that I've stayed in, havé more impressive restaurants.

A couple of years ago, they offered special prices....Sometime a room could be as low as $99.

This is definitely a great place for a business meeting. If you fly in via Northwest, you don't even have to leave the terminal. It is a bit of a walk, but you need SOME exercise after being trapped on a plane for hours, right?

My only complaint is they use something in their laundry detergent or something that caused me to have a massive allergic reaction! I don't know what it was - and I've never had that happen in a Westin before. The front desk staff were helpful though and opened up the gift shop and brought up some Benedryl for me. Still - I would prefer not to look like a freak for my business meetings. :-(

If you've stayed at a Westin, you probably know what to expect: spacious room, comfortable bed, pretty good shower.  That's all there.

Pros:
* Location, location, location.  If you get stuck at DTW, and if the rest of the stuck travellers don't also have the same idea (or if you beat them to it), it's right in the spiffy new NWA terminal.  If you're not travelling out of that terminal, there's a shuttle to the other terminal that runs every 15 minutes.  It means that you can roll out of bed 20 minutes before you need to be at the airport, run downstairs, and be checking in (or at least in the queue to check in) nearly instantly.
* There's a security gate connecting the hotel to the NWA terminal.  If you're not checking bags, you can rock up to one of the NWA self-check kiosks in the lobby and be through security in just a couple of minutes.  You'll find yourself at gate A38, which is nearly perfectly centered on the concourse.
* Beginning in early Dec 2008, Westin and the TSA began a pilot program to allow guests at the hotel into the terminal without a boarding pass.  While this might not sound like a great thing, it gives you to at least a little bit of access to something that's not a hotel without having to take a taxi to the nearest civilization.
* The soundproofing at the hotel is nothing short of amazing.  If you were somehow knocked out, brought here, and placed in a room, you wouldn't know that it was in an airport terminal.  I never heard an airplane overhead, which has the bonus of meaning that I also never heard anything from the rooms around mine or from the hallway.
* The hotel restaurant is surprisingly good, and has a more varied menu than most hotel restaurants.
* There's free wi-fi available in the lobby.  Get one of the interior rooms, and you'll probably be able to get that free wi-fi from your room.  I stayed on the 7th floor (there's only 8 floors), and had great reception.  If you can't get the free wi-fi, Internet access is $10/night.

Cons:
* The TSA pilot program to get into the terminal is SLOW.  If there's no one at the podium (and there never is), you have to ask the front desk staff to call someone from the TSA to come over.  It takes about a half-hour for the TSA guy to stroll over, and then he takes your ID for 10-20 minutes to do some kind of background check.  If you're just doing it to have some place to walk around that isn't the hotel, you might as well go upstairs to the hotel gym and hit the treadmill.  It'll be faster and won't violate your civil liberties.  If you're doing it for some food, remember that it's all airport food; the hotel restaurant is better.
* The front desk staff isn't nearly as polished as I expect in a Westin.  Check-in took forever.  They weren't able to answer relatively basic questions like "how often does the shuttle to the other terminal run?"
* Everything at the hotel is geared towards travellers on NWA; if you're travelling on another airline, there's nothing.  This is a perplexing oversight from a hotel directly in the airport.  At most other Starwood properties that I stay at, they have a kiosk to print boarding passes for any airline.

In all, if I found myself stuck overnight at DTW again, I'd get a room there again instead of trying to deal with an off-airport property.  It's convenient  (even when you're not flying NWA, which I never do) and pretty inexpensive.

The Westin Detroit Metro is a FABULOUS hotel!  Even though I was in Detroit for a sad occasion (the death of my grandmother), I still enjoyed the spacious and comfortable room.  I would love to know what company makes Westin's mattresses, I slept soundly, even though I shared the room with 3 heavy snorers and a toddler!  You couldn't ask for a more convenient location.  NWA flight check-in is right at the hotel exit.  Be sure to check various websites to find a deal - my family did!  We would have ended up staying at a Super 8 or Red Roof  Inn if the Westin didn't offer a deal when we needed it.

Flying Northwest??? This is the secret place to enter the airport. Check your bag outside walk a few feet into the Westin Hotel.  Your own personal security checkpoint per say.  It also puts you at gate A 30ish.
