nice laid back vibe. Not too hip, thank god. Was so excited for happy hour burger nite but as a vegetarian I was disappointed. the patty was mushy, tasteless and crumbled so not incentive to get that again. But the carnivore boyfriend enjoyed his. The broccoli however was delicious!
As a bar the happy hour was good and it's a chill place. Server was friendly, thanks. -

I went here for Happy Hour (5-9 pm) with a couple of friends and was pleased by the ambiance of the place because it reminded me of a bar I used to frequent up in Sacramento. It had an intimate and laidback feel, not at all pretentious (which is a good thing). It was a little small, or maybe a little too crowded, but everyone seemed to just be chilling and having a good time. Nothing rowdy here.
It was a Thursday night and pretty busy, crowd seemed to be mostly mid-20s and up. I would recommend this place if you'd like to just chill, drink, and eat with friends. -
Review from James S.
A ten year old establishment, and I've now been once. And, although I missed the fabled Happy Hour, I DID luck into $3 Burger Night (Tuesdays from 5-10pm).
'3 Different Burgers Every Week,' and the funny thing is, I came in for a martini! My luck continued as I discovered they carry Effen Vodka, an old favorite. (If you don't know it, this Effen was created some years back, distributed out of Chicago, and named so that patrons at selected lounges would cry out: 'Give me the Effen Vodka.' But you knew this, right?) To my delight, they have a Cucumber flavor --new to me. Damn, that works. An $11 martini is not outrageous --- I'd be curious to see if that changes during Happy Hour.
Now about that Burger. For $3, you will take it as they describe in their weekly edition of Burger Night Menu. No substitutions. Take it as described, which is probably a healthy thing to contemplate sometimes. Mind you, they say the burgers change every week, but last night the choices were:
Beef Burger with Gorgonzola Cheese, Horseradish Sauce, PBR Sauteed Onions, Lettuce & Tomato.
Turkey Burger, Feta Cheese, Roasted Red Pepper, SriRacha, Grilled Red Onions, L&T.
Veggie Burger
Pub Cheddar, Grilled Jalapeno, Honey Aioli, PBR Sauteed Onions, L&T.
They had me at Jalapeno, so I went with the Veggie. These are good-sized burgers with many trimmings, and mine was pretty dang tasty. Remember, you take it as they serve it, so if you do order a meat burger, keep your 'Medium Rare' or whatever to yourself. Oh, and you may add fries to your burger at this special time for $2. I passed. They have a whole other bar menu, too.
Love the crowd and staff: Fun, relaxed group veering between the sexy/attractive and nerdy to regular guy spectrums. Easy to strike up a conversation, or just eavesdrop. It's all welcome, and look forward to visiting again.Listed in: Got Your Burger Right Here

I went to the well as the first place of a bar hopping night in Hollywood. Every one of the reviews seems to praise the happy hour prices, but I happened to come here when it was not happy hour. The prices were exorbitant in my opinion, but I am used to cheaper drinks at cheaper places. The atmosphere was very laid back, but there wasn't a very eclectic group of people the night I went.
One of the pluses were the comfortable seats and couches and even though the drinks were high priced, they were particularly strong. I may try to return for Happy Hour as others suggest, but I won't return when it's not.
The Well? You may see me again. Perhaps..... perhaps.... -

When you say Happy Hour is until 9pm, well then you've got a fan in me!
Drinks here are tasty, strong, and cheap (kinda reminds me of my nickname in high school). Their Moscow Mule was a great twist on this old fashioned drink, but my favorite was the Slow, Comfortable Screw -- a couple of those and you'll know what I'm talking about *wink wink*
And the appetizers are great, too. The teeny weenies pack a flavorful punch so give 'em a try.
What was most surprising was that this place was quiet. The bomb drinks and great food should have the masses beating down the door. I guess I'll spot the silver lining: more drinks, more quickly for me! -

This place is awesome!!!
Happy hour is the best here. Really cheap drinks and really cheap food, but good quality food and drinks. Went on a monday around 6pm. It wasnt that crowded. Got a seat by the bar. The bartender was very nice and was easy to get a hold of when we needed something.
Had the tomato and cheddar grilled cheese sandwich which was awesome. Also had the bean dip as well as the french fry trio which was also good.
I would recommend this place to anyone who is in hollywood looking for a good happy hour. -

If there's anywhere I truly hate having to travel to, it's Hollywood. But yet, here I am writing a 5 star review for a Hollywood bar. I feel so dirty and douchy.....
I was fortunate enough to have came across The Well after agreeing to meet up with a friend who works in the area on a Tuesday night. I was pleasantly surprised as I walked into this great looking lounge with awesome music playing (from a jukebox), but best of all, a very non-Hollywood crowd! if that wasn't enough to have me intrigued, the happy hour drink specials and $3 burgers seriously threw me off!
I had the brown sugar old fashioned which was great (and cheap), and both the turkey and beef burger were surprisingly damn good. Without question, the best $3 burgers I've ever had!
As for service, both the bartender and server were great and attentive.
I'm still in disbelief that I enjoyed a bar in Hollywood this much, but even more so, that I actually plan on returning in the next week or two.
Don't judge me. -

Fantastic little bar with great happy hour!
I love how the happy hour here goes till 9pm. They have a pretty large selection of happy hour items. The only con was that when I went, there was only 1 bartender and it took her about 15 min to get to me (she seemed a bit new). The mixed drinks were all$5 and a few of the specialty cocktails were a dollar more so no biggie.
We consumed our drinks with some chips and salsa which was a nice light snack to complement it with.
The other con was the seating. There were a couple of booths but not enough to seat the crowd of people there for happy hour. We were lucky enough to find some seats at the bar. But regardless, had a nice time there. -

I'm not one to do Hollywood, but when a Hollywood bar offers happy hour from 5-9 EVERYDAY. I'm sold! Drinks are super strong, crafty, and dirt cheap ($5-$7 for a good mixed drank). The apps were pretty good too, also ranging from $5-$6. Tried the jalapeno mac n cheese & those weenies wrapped in bacon drizzled with some delicious sauce. Pretty filling. Oh & they have $3 burgers on Tuesdays! Didn't get to get in on that, but I do plan on going back. So worth the drive.
P.S. parking is a bit of a pain. It's either $7 valet, or street parking (if you're lucky). -

Happy hour prices can't be beat and the food is always great. The $3 Turkey burger rules!
Good staff, good looking crowd, friendly customers and a good selection of music in the jukebox.
One of the few places left where Hollywood douchebags are frowned upon. -

Parking- Ridiculously expensive.
Place- Okay nothing special to talk about.
Service- Okay really nothing special to talk about.
Happy Hour Food- Poor quality food. Seemed like we were at a cheap dive bar. Ordered the Well Burger and it was soo salty. The bun kept breaking into shreds. Didn't love it.
Drinks- Didn't drink but my friends seemed to really like the drinks. They thought that the drinks were strong. However, they did not have Bailey, milk or 151 so there were several shots that they just refused to make because of it. Sucked that a bar did not have all the drinks to make a decent drink.
Overall, it's not a place that I would remember to return to. -

This place has a nice atmosphere. It's cool, calm and relaxed. Nice low light for ambience and a Juke Box for Customers to pick the Jams.
Food is Great. Those appetizers that are the little weenies wrapped in bacon is SO good.
Happy Hour from 5-9 Everyday, if I am not mistaken.
Overall, I like this place. -
Review from Cole C.
HAPPY HOUR UNTIL 9PM EVERY DAY. Beat that.
So glad to have stumbled upon this bar. It's large, dark, and wonderful. Simple, homey, and very casual. So casual, the bartender was wearing basketball shorts and a t-shirt. Juke box tunes, a STRONG Moscow Mule, and delightful little bacon wrapped sausages. LOVE IT.
Everything about this place screamed five stars to me until the end, when we asked to close out and were given a receipt with a total only. No itemized receipt? That's cruel. We'd been sitting there drinking for three hours. How could they possibly expect us to be able to remember exactly what we drank, much less add it up and verify that the total was correct? They were either trying to secretly overcharge us, or they have absolutely no compassion or consideration for the less-than-sober mind.
Regardless, can't wait to go back! I only wish I could walk there... -

I absofuckenlutely love this place. Stopped by before a show at the Music Box which is literally a couple small blocks down. We had backstage passes to see a friend of ours perform, DJ Shadow and LowEndTheory resident DJ, The GasLampKiller, epic fucken night. Chilled here for a few drinks. Great service and amazing vibes and atmosphere. No one gives you wicked stares of any kind. Came back after the show with what seemed to be a crowd of 15 and took over the place. Bar tenders extra happy for the crowd and we just killed it that night. It became our bar. Epic night. Been back a few times since and I know it will never be my last. I believe happy hour is between 4-9 I might more than likely be mistaken :D great recommendation though!

EXTREMELLY DARK.
I believe they have a happy hour which is really good.
Obviously don't come here for the food...you might wanna skip the fish $ chips unless you tell them not to super fry them...
the potato skins and hummus are yummy snacks to munch on...
If you ask for a drink. They will give you a drink no messing around.
I have a groupon for this place, no fuss or hassle...
The bartender was very nice.
If you wanna reserve for a big group, I think they won't charge. -

Cozy, off the beaten path, and fantastic drinks. They made a delicious Godfather Martini, though their Old Fashioned left something to be desired. Their seating and standing areas are really cozy and welcoming. and their happy hour is unbeatable! Till 9pm! If the music wasn't so loud I would give it 5 stars!

I like the Well. I usually drop by here before a concert at the Palladium or if I'm heading over to Arclight or Amoeba.
It has a relaxed lounge/bar feel with a rectangular shaped bar in the center of the room. Key Word - Unpretentious. Dark - but not too dark - seating at the bar, and lounge seating along the walls. The crowd can vary depending on the night - but it's typically good peeps. The Well is part of the Vintage Bar Group (The Woods, El Bar, The Parlour Room, etc.) -- I've always enjoyed their other bars as well.
They have a great cocktail list and a great selection of Bourbons! Try the Brown Sugar Old Fashioned. I've always had good service here and the bartenders have been friendly.
I've also eaten here a couple times as well and everything has been pretty good. The Burger is good, the sweet potato fries are good, and the bacon wrapped lil' smokies are GREEAATTT!
Best part -- JUKEBOX!!! -

Los Angeles, CA
Just discovered this place near my apartment, and I'm already in love with it. It's very unassuming on the outside -- just a big black building with a neon blue sign that says "The Well." You go in what looks like a back entrance, and immediately your impression of the place changes.
The decor is very dark and sexy. The raised leather booths are great for intimate conversation and people watching. Best of all, prices are incredibly fair. Happy hour 5-9 everyday includes $3 PBR, $5 beer/well drinks and martinis, and discounted cocktails. Food isn't included in the happy hour menu, but it's cheap to begin with -- appetizers and entrees all range from $3-10. =
We shared the jalapeno mac & cheese, potato skins, and chicken taquitos. The mac and cheese was great -- I loved the touch of jalapeno in it. Potato skins were big, greasy, and delicious. Chicken taquitos were okay... they were a little small, and I've had better guac. My mango martini was so-so, too -- strong, but kind of flavourless.
I'll definitely be going back for the atmosphere and prices. -

Yes! I'm a long-time fan of this spot. It's one of my fave happy hour haunts - $5 for well drinks and wine, $3 beer and an unheard of 5-9pm run. The apps are pretty good...pair perfectly with cheap drinks! It's kinda dark, kinda divey, kinda sexy. However, I could do without the jukebox as the sole source of entertainment. Other people's musical taste can be iffy - especially if they put like 10 bucks in there and take over. But I digress...where was I?
Oh yes, great place to check out any night of the week. And, if you like The Well, be sure to check out Vintage Group's other lounges which have equally good ambiance and happy hours. Ye-uhh! -

I was surprised to see that I've never written a review though I've been here at least five times. In fact, I think I come here everytime I'm in Hollywood past 10pm.
Chill atmosphere. Lots of seating. Usually has interesting people to look at. -

Definitely a fan of this place! Live real close and if I'm in the mood for a drink, this is probably my top 5 places. It's a lounge, so probably don't come here if you expect dancing. Expect laid back, good drinks, comfy ambiance, good relaxing night out.
Located across the street from the Palladium; I usually come here and get a few drinks in me before going into concerts, let the lines die down while having a good time here.
From the outside, looks like a hole in the wall, but on the inside real comfy feel. Small private room in back, booth seating all around, small cocktail tables situated in a couple areas.
Only downside, they need more bartenders; it can get tough on a Saturday night to get a drink. They usually have 2 working a night, could use another one. -

I may be biased. I have lived nearby for over 5 years and this has become the bar I walk to when I just need a drink, even though there are three bars closer by. I just like the ambiance, the door guys are pretty friendly if you introduce yourself. The bartenders are awesome people when you get to know them. The jukebox is one of the best in the city. There is plenty of seating, its nice and dark, but not seedy.
Oh, and they have booze. Enjoy. -
Review from Kelly K.
This place has an awesome Saturday Happy Hour (6-9pm I think). It's easy to walk right into the physical bar without ever seeing it coming as it's extremely dark inside the establishment. In terms of finding the business itself, well you could easily pass by several times and never know it. Average priced drinks and a small food menu. Pretty sure we ordered chicken tenders and said they were out, only to see another guest eating them an hour later. Fishy.
If I could review the parking for this place, it would get a 1 star. Meters on the street, but the garage right next door screws you if you enter before they put their $10 sign out and leave after they start charging. You'd think if you enter when it's free, it's free. But they won't let you leave without paying. Try and avoid this scam if you can. -

Both times I've been here, it has been fairly empty, but I hear it can get quite crowded. I went for their happy hour and they have a large selection of drinks and food on the hh menu. The potato skins were good. The jalapeno mac n cheese were ok and I just wouldn't recommend the short rib sliders. I got the cucumber rum cocktail, it was so-so. Service was slow, but I guess there was only 1 bartender working in the entire place?

This spot is small. You would never think it was even there. Its an ok spot. This lounge is more like a pre-meeting spot before you hit Hollywood. There is a jukebox but I can't even think of the music that came out of there. Its not too loud, so if you want to meet a "blind date" or a date vs meeting for coffee, it would be a perfect place to talk since you can hear each other.
Happy hour is till 9pm so thats a good start. The bar is pretty well stocked but the servers are pretty slow esp when it wasn't busy at all.
I may visit here again as a meeting point, but its not a place to hang out all night. -

Los Angeles, CA
I'm a big fan of the Well. Off the really beaten path of Hollywood Blvd., which I prefer, this tucked away bar has my favorite beer...and that my friends, is a good sign. What is my favorite beer you might ask? Delirium Tremens. I've been a HUGE fan of the DT for say about...let's just say since I've been 21 years young. Enough about DT, on with the Well...
Parking is 7 bux on the weekends next door and ample street parking, if you're lucky.
The Well Lounge is dim and is my cup of tea.
Note: The bouncers were watching porn on their iPhone as I was leaving and it was some serious porn. I always find it intriguing when two men can watch hetero-porn at the same time? Hum? -

Came here with a group of 8 girls to use my groupon deal I recently purchased. We were running late and our reservation was at 8pm. I called and it wasn't a problem at all. Our area was reserved until 10pm :)
The venue was small, dark and intimate - which I really liked. They don't mess around with the amount of alcohol they put into the mix drinks which is a major plus for me. Who wants to go to a bar to drink juice?
I wish there was more selection in the jukebox though. It seemed to stick to about 3-4 of the same type of genre. Granted the venue was more mellow...the girls and I were in the mood for some upbeat type of music.
I can totally see myself coming back though. Perhaps after a long day at the office or on a Friday just to have a drink and hang out. -

Nice, low-key lounge bar right in the middle of Hollywood. I've come here a couple of times on Friday and Saturday nights, and it's never been particularly packed, either, so that's a bonus.
If you like a laid-back, chill kind of vibe then this is a great place for you. Affordable drinks, comfy booths, and a juke box to play whatever your heart desires. And the music is never TOO loud, so I don't wind up having to scream at my friends the way I do in so many other Hollywood bars.
Simple, relaxed, and affordable. Overall, a solid place to grab a drink. -

How did I forget to write a review of this place! Great place I've been going to for years. I love the drinks, the ambiance, and the people. The bartender is the best. I found a fantastic groupon earlier this summer for a party of 12. I wanted to use the groupon here as an after party with friends for my birthday. I thought it would be a cool way to say thanks for coming out. I had called before going out. Although they were already booked for the night, when I talked with the bartender and explained the situation, he said to stop by and he would work it out. This place ended up being the best part of the night. Everyone had a great time and once again I was reminded why this place is one of my favorite places to go in Hollywood.

I like it here. Haven't had a problem finding seating, even relatively late in the evening on a weekend. Drinks aren't cheap unless you make it in time for happy hour. Ambiance is dark, lounge-like, comfortable, slightly sexy but not overkill. Crowd is eclectic, real people...refreshing.

Wow, they did quite a number on The Well. It's no longer divey (was it ever?) and it's now a Gastro LOUNGE which is pretty amazing. The decor is great and they have updated food and drink menus.
After Rosco's we stopped in for some drinks. I had a Delerium and the GF had a Blue Moon. Before that I had a glass of red wine. Didn't care for it.
We did not have food, because we still had chicken in our bellies, so we were full. I don't think they ever served food back in the day. Now they do. It's reminiscent of The York and Father's Office. You order everything at the bar and they bring it to your seating area. I do have to say that the bartenders need to start making eye contact and focus on the customers more than the people sitting at the bar. I had to move like 2-3 times around the square bar to get service. The hell? Y'all know me!1 Previous Review: Show all »

I love this place. The service sucks because they are seriously under-staffed and sometimes the stereo blares right over your conversation with a friend BUT the happy hour menu can't be beat.
Bar is located up argyle - free street parking over on Gower. Did I mention there is a juke box? enjoy. -

Hollywood, CA
I used to come here all the time for their Happy Hour which is one of the better ones in Hollywood. It's a discrete little place that's easily missed since all you see from the street is the door.
During Happy Hour they have lots of great deals on food and drinks and it's definitely worth the effort of getting there early to take advantage of it. Their Happy Hour food is pretty good (for a bar) and discounted booze always tastes a little better.
The bar itself has a great layout with booths, lounge seating and tables along the outside with the bar located in the middle. The decor is classic and loungey (yeah, I know it's not a real word) and makes for a really great place to grab a drink and chat with friends. It can get really loud though, so be prepared to scream in each others ears.
As for service, well it's been really hit or miss for me and as of late it's been a miss. I would have easily given this place 4 Stars if not for the countless times where I found myself standing there trying to order a drink only to be ignored by the bartender(s). I've worked in the service industry and have been to some of the most crowded bars in the Universe so I totally understand and recognize if things are busy, but it often seems that the people behind the bar just don't give a sh%t. It's unfortunate and one of the reasons why I rarely come here anymore...too bad.
Lastly, parking is easy since there's a valet lot right next door for like $7. There's street parking too after a certain time, but make sure you read those signs since there's often more than one sign and they're more complicated to understand than galactic physics. -
Review from Joy B.
Met up with some friends on a weekday night for happy hour after a long grueling work day. Nothing like a stiff cocktail to erase and reset!
I don't care for their specialty drinks, although I wish I did because the names are witty and fun to say. Too bad they're too sweet and sugary. Blech. So I stuck to my trusty vodka soda with lime. They make you order drinks at the bar, you can't order them from the staff at your table. Um, okay. Food wasn't good either. But if I had to choose, I'd go with the hummus. You get more pita than hummus, FYI. Everything else on the menu pretty much will go straight to your muffin top fund.
So why the 4 stars, you ask? Well, there's plenty of seating. Drinks are not too pricey. It's clean. The crowd is a nice mix of people. There's a jukebox you can play with. And it's the perfect venue to hold conversations because you're not having to compete with loud music. Bathroom is a little bloody mary scary but use the buddy system and you'll be all right. -

This place is very cool if you're in the area and want a down-tempo place to grab a drink or appetizer. The staff is super friendly and the mood is laid back. We come here often to have a drink before going to a show in the area. Great prices! Friendly service! Go!
