1 review for The Wedding Salon
The only reason I'm not giving this event 2 stars is because this Bridesmaid and her bestie Bride did not have to drop a dime for tickets to this Wedding sideshow. After receiving a special code for the freebie tix (the full price was $50!!) we showed up at the Roosevelt Hotel around 6pm. Since it was post-work rush hour there was a line stretching all the way down the stairs to the front door. After spending 45 minutes shuffling through the queue simply to check in (wouldn't printed tickets be easier rather than a guest list format??) we finally got wrist ribbons and were let loose with the suggestion that we find the elevators to the mezzanine level.
Now, we had both been under the impression that there would be cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, gift bags and mini primping stations.
Cocktails - there was one bar where Hpnotiq was served in shot glasses. It barely even quenched my thirst.
Hors d'oeuvres - while many of the stations simply had "displays" there were a few random ladies carrying around mini-cupcakes. And more mini-cupcakes. And a plate of plastic tasting slivers of cakes. So with easily over 2000 female guests they had three stations of buttery sugary mini cakes. Needless to say, I lost my appetite.
Primping station - there was a sweaty room to the left of the entrance that was swarmed with make-up stations but since we kept getting mobbed by randos with pamphlets yelling, "Do you want dance lessons?" or "Did you already find a wedding dress?" "Want to surprise your new hubby with sexy lingerie?" "Have you considered a destination wedding in the Bahamas" and on and on and on. I hardly wanted to make eye contact with anyone should they think I want them to launch into a 10 minute diatribe on indoor vs. outdoor weddings.
I did enjoy the lanky wedding dress models dancing to the wedding band with the wedding dance instructors...but beyond that it all just seemed kind of like a frenzied sample sale. The saving grace was going to be the gift bags though, as we had heard they come chock full of Victoria's Secret stuff and make-up but when we went to the table after escaping the messiness inside...we were informed that only the first 800 guests received gift bags. This confused me since we had a ticket just like everyone else, shouldn't the gift bag be included in the price of the ticket? Nope. What a rip-off.
I suppose if you have made absolutely zero decisions about your wedding and also don't have a job so you can show up at 4pm to "claim" your gift bag, then this event may get the ball rolling. For me it just made me quite happy I wasn't going to be a bride just yet!
