I moved to Chicago a year ago, and have been looking for a decent place to get a Brazilian wax ever since.  I've tried out quite a few places, and so far have only had one other great experience (though it was too expensive for me), which was Sinead's on Sheffield.  Yesterday's trip to The Waxing Room was great.  Alyssa did the dirty deed, she was super-sweet and funny, and took her time to make sure the job was done correctly.  I loved that of all the places I've been in the city so far, this was the only place where the esthetician left the room to let me drop trou and arrange myself on the table, and she even gave me a little towel for modesty's sake (not that getting a Brazilian allows for much modesty, but hell, it's the thought that counts, right?).

The only downside of the entire trip was the track lighting, which was shining right in my eyes the entire time, but at $55 for an 'artistic Brazilian' done quickly, correctly, and relatively painlessly, I'll deal with some lighting issues.

Also, they do dye jobs...on your wooha!  I didn't go in for that yesterday, but we'll see about next time :-)

If you're picky about your waxing needs (and really, who isn't?), this is the place to go.  I haven't had a bad wax in there.  Not to get personal, but if you're going to a place to get a bikini wax, you want to know you're getting the best service.  If you go there enough times, you'll find someone that you really trust and feel comfortable with.  The lady I finally decided is my favorite is really good and very... ummm... detail-oriented.

The prices are reasonable, and not crazy high like some places in the yuppie-infested neighborhoods (read: Lakeview, Lincoln Park, and Gold Coast).  The important thing, you will leave there with a little less hair on your body, but a lot happier.

Note: if you are there to get an eye-brow wax, they may put you in one of the chairs by the window.  I don't know about you, but I don't usually like people walking by on the sidewalk to be able to see me during my personal grooming time.  They will accommodate you if you ask them to do the waxing away from the front window.

Also, make sure you call for an appointment.  First, it will make life much easier to have an appointment.  Second, no other place can bring a smile to your face when you call as this place does, as they answer the phone by saying "Hi, this is the Waxing Room, how may we wax you?"  Sometimes, when I'm feeling down, I have the urge to call them just to hear them say that (no worries, I don't do that, and I certainly do NOT condone prank calling.)

I've had mixed experiences here.  My eyebrows are naturally extremely light, so I have them tinted and waxed so I don't have to fill them in every day.  The first time I came here, I went to Cherylanne.  She was fantastic - my brows looked phenomenal and she covered up most of my redness.  I am super fair-skinned, so I have a tendency to turn pretty red during a brow wax.

The second and third times I came here, I wasn't very pleased.  I truly cannot remember the names of the people who did my tint and wax, but they definitely weren't Cherylanne.

My brows were way too dark after my second visit, and the wax was too dramatic.  I looked like I had aged several years simply because of my eyebrows.  After the color faded a bit (which took a few days), I felt much better.

After my third visit, I decided it would be my last.   The woman who did my wax missed a bunch of hairs.  I'm not Groucho Marx by any means, and this has never happened before.  Considering the place isn't cheap, I think I'll find another salon for my waxing needs.

Each time I go in here I get someone new.  This time I got Iwona.  She was very meticulous and asked me questions as to how I wanted my brows done.  I appreciated that because we've all been to someone who leaves them too bushy or makes them too thin--both situations are a nightmare.  I recommend her.

Rachel was the first person who ever gave me a Brazilian and she did a great job, but she had to move so I tried another person there-She's not even worth writing about b/c she was so bad-But lets just say the owner found out and fired her-

So Cheryl Ann found out what happened to me and told me to come in and she'd take care of me; she's great-

I just got back from my 2nd time with her and I swear it took 5 minutes max and NO pain-She is fast and is precise, she will take a comb out and make sure her lines are straight and doesn't miss hairs-

If you go to the Waxing Room ask for Cheryl Ann, I think her schedule is M-T-W-

Hair removal isn't a pleasant topic, but level with me here. They do a great job on the underarms and smaller areas, but I would save the Brazilian for Fabiola at Salon 1800. 4 Stars for the underarm wax, 3 for the Brazilian. It's a great place to go and get the dirty deed done fast, cheap and easy. They have good hours and get usually get me in when I want, so thus far I'm a happy camper!

After trying a few other places (including one that required an ice pack later!), I tried the Waxing Room.  I figured that a place that only does waxes should know what to do.  I was right!

I see Lynda for the "artistic" Brazilian.  She is nice, professional, and most importantly, she does it quickly, throughly, and as painlessly as possible.   I highly recommend her!

My only complaint isn't Lynda's fault....why do they charge extra to remove everything and call it an "artistic" Brazilian???  I'm no expert, but it seems to me that it would be harder and maybe more "artistic"  ability required to leave a little strip that has straight edges...  That kinda annoys me, but I still love Lynda and will continue to go to the Waxing Room!

I have written reviews of the Waxing Room twice, because they kept disappearing (see below).

Every time I posted a review, it disappeared from the search. WHY?

So kiddies, where can I yelp on yelp? If Yelp removes negative reviews, it is not a trustworthy source of information. I find I cannot rely on Yelp because I assume it is skewed positive.

If Yelp removes reviews, the credibility of the site goes down. Hopefully this update will repost PERMANENTLY.

Yelp team, you have my email. Contact me. I've read your review guidelines and I am a CUSTOMER. Not a competitor, not a former employee, not fabricating information. Every business has a bad day, and while some people have great experiences, others don't. Suppressing this information is not cool.

Posted a review here awhile back and I don't see it.

The upshot is that I'd rather have oral surgery than go back here. I posted the details, but now it's gone. I remember an eyelash tint that was painful (to my eyes). I was given a cloth to clean the area myself! What service was I paying for? The timing of the appointment was screwed up as well.

Avoid at all costs.

If this review disappears again, I'd say there's some payola in the mix.

I would rather have dental work done than go back to the Waxing Room.

The timing of my last appointment was screwed up; the lash tinting service was painful and the results did not last very long. Every time I've gotten a brow wax I need to do touch ups at home immediately afterwards (and I am no Frida Kahlo).

Someone tried with the decor but missed in functionality; in the private room the track lighting is situated so be right in your eyes when you are receiving a "spa-like" service.

The best -- I rarely ever make and appointment, I just walk in, which i know is rude -- but I guess I'm spontaneous like that.
I'm apparently allergic to waxed brows apparently because I always break out for 3 or for days.
But I go to this place because it's one of the very few places seemingly in chicago that "thread" eyebrows.  The best way ever in my opinion.
I'm hooked on this place!

I went to The Waxing Room this afternoon for my usual Brazilian.  LOVED IT!  The wax was quick, thorough and as painless as it gets.  Very professional and the girls were nice.

I'm going back this week to get the eyelash extensions!  I've been doing those for the better part of a year, but this will be my first time at The Waxing Room.  I'll keep you posted.  :)

Brazilian Pricing:   It's $35 for a general wax, $45 for a Brazilian (with the strip still there), or $55 for the "Artistic Bikini" (everything gone).  I still thought it was a great value, and very looks great.  :)

A bit pricey compared to my usual waxing stop (Spa Space), but for convenience, this place can't be beat. Right at the Barry/Halsted/Clark intersection,  this tiny storefront popped up a couple of months ago. After picking up shoes at DSW, I decided to forgo my Spa Space appointment and try this new place. I was glad I did.

The service was excellent. I have sensitive skin, and saw Lisa for my bikini wax. She did a quick job, and I was left with only slight redness which subsided quickly. I normally pay $25 for this wax, but it was $45 at The Waxing Room.  If you're in a pinch and can't see your regular waxer, this is a good bet in the Lakeview area.

Delightful (yet still painful) experience.

A few things to note: 1) be sure to have cash on hand for tip, since you can't add gratuity with a card. 2) know the difference between the types of waxing along the bikini line. My big mistake was going for the Brazilian when I was told that they "leave a strip remaining". To me that meant landing strip, which is odd for a Brazilian because I was always under the impression that Brazilian is EVERYTHING--read: ladies EVERYTHING.

Since I'd had a Brazilian done before and I found that there was a bit of confusion coming in for the appointment, I went ahead with it anyway. I just wish there was some uniformity amongst estheticians for the naming devices of the service.

Anyway, the salon as a whole is very charming, clean and comfortable. I found my wax to be as quick and efficient as possible considering the usual pain that comes with it. For being a painful service that women that subject themselves too, its always nice to come in to a welcoming shop.

Prices are great, as is the location. Definitely coming back once the beach-ready region starts growing out. Word to the wise--down some aspirin with a shot o' whiskey beforehand!

I recently had a bikini wax by Cherylanne at the Waxing Room.  She was great and her demeanor helps put you at ease.  She did a great job with the wax - fast, knowledgable and as painless as possible.

Let's face it, getting waxed is not the most fun thing in the world.  Unless you're into pain.  Which I'm not.  But, given the circumstances, it was a great experience.

Scheduled my first appointment here, but unfortunatly will probably not return. Not because of the location/place/ or service; but because of the prices. I got my eyebrows and lip waxed. The lady who did my wax was nice and good at it. However, I did not like that I had to sit in a chair in the front window of the business to get my wax done. I didn't like the fact people could just walk up to the window and stare at me while I was getting waxed.

The prices were a bit much in my opinion. I ended up spending about $40 for the lip and eyebrow wax (I think that was with tip). That is a bit much for 10 minutes of service. I did like that they called me and thanked me for my business the next day. That was a nice shock, but still not worth $40.

I recently came here for a bikini wax and was very happy with the service. Cherylanne (the owner) did the wax and did an excellent job. It is very conveniently located at Halstead/Barry/Clark and the services are reasonably priced. I will definitely be coming back for future waxes!

This place is awesome. I was recommended to this place by a guy that works at the Aveda Institute, and was told to go see "Rachel."

Rachel did an amazing job. Really young, but very professional and skilled when it comes to down to it.

I am very particular when it comes to cleanliness of salons. Waxing room ensures that no dip stick is "dipped" twice into the hot wax. No contamination, really sterile techniques implemented here. This was really important.

The best part? They use hard wax on the most sensitive areas down there. Yes, it's a bit more heated temperature-wise on the skin, but then they instantly cool it down with ice, and it comes off so much easier and the skin is less traumatized.

Tips for anyone getting waxed, anywhere: take at least 200 mg of ibuprofen at least 30 min prior= less inflammation afterwards.

When I can actually get in for an appointment, this place does pretty good work, but for a business whose only specialty is hair removal it seems overly difficult to set up eyebrow threading. Periodically I call to make an appointment (a total of four visits over the past several months-- I don't get this done often enough) and on these different occasions I've been told a) the person who threaded my eyebrows before is no longer an employee, b) no one who does threading is working at the moment, and now c) threading is only offered Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. I realize it's not called The Threading Room, but it seems easy enough to offer all listed services during regular hours. I've also noticed that when I am actually able to make an appointment after being told the schedule is jam-packed, once I actually go there the place seems empty. What gives? It's too bad this place is run so poorly; they do decent work.

This place is good, I use it if I'm in a pinch (Marina at Urban Lift Salon is my waxing savior & worth 10 stars! :).  I have had both Cherylanne and others and everyone has done a good job. Waxing can be a very unpleasant experience, and this place has above average service and average prices. Very convenient if you live nearby, and they can usually get you in on pretty short notice.

This place was very cool! Jemma waxed my eyebrows and it was the best they have ever looked! It was a little vulnerable getting it done in front of big windows, but the natural light can only improve the outcome. She was very nice and professional. The receptionist was kind as well! I will be going back and I recommend The Waxing Room to everyone!

The Brazilian wax was good but I was annoyed that they charged me extra for taking everything off (you would think this would be easier).  I don't mind paying the price but did not like being surprised.  It was also very inconvenient to get to - no parking anywhere close!
