Definitely going to become a regular here!
I walked in around 5pm and I thought it was going to be so busy, but nobody was there and she took me right away. STAR!
Holy crap, I threaded for the first time and the results are amazing! I can't stop looking at my eyebrows. She was so fast and skilled. But I'm not gonna lie, it hurt a little bit. I'm hoping I get used to it though, because it was amazing. STAR!
Eyebrow massage too? STAR! Warm, cute, clean atmosphere? STAR! $23 for eyebrows and upper lip? STAR!
Loved it!
When I lived in Lakeview I used to go to this place every two weeks to get my eyebrows waxed. The place was right around the corner from my apt and very accessible.
The service was great and I have never had so much attention to detail when getting my eyebrows waxed. I miss living up there so I can go there. I am at the point of considering going all the way up there from downtown now because I miss it.
The prices are pretty low and as previously mentioned, the waxers pay close attention to detail.
I have been going to this place since it opened and it is wonderful. It is reasonably priced and they do an excellent job. Also, I can usually walk in and get service. The eyebrow threading is amazing.
***Update***
I had previously given the waxing house a 5 star review, but I felt the need to re-visit my previous rating from more recent experiences.
The past 2 times I've went here, the women have been extremely hurried and did not such a great job on my brows. I had to go home and pluck a few that she had missed! They were still friendly as usual, but I when they get walk-ins they seem to get more flustered and hurry through the procedure - which is not cool. I will be hunting for a new place to go....

I absolutley love this place. I regularly get my eyebrows threaded here ($13 + tip if you want), and… Read more »
I LOVE this place for threading...well I actually went there for an eyebrow wax and the lady talked me into threading...my first time, I figured...what the hell, lets do it. Well, she did a PERFECT job. Not to mention, the AMAZING eyebrow massage she gives.
If you go during off hours (like during the day, before it gets CRAZY in there), she spends extra time massaging, etc. However, if you go during the peak hours, then you get to sit in the waxing chair in front of everyone to see because there is just a chair basically in the middle of the waiting area that they do your eyebrows, etc in...however, I am pretty sure if you get your downstairs done, you get to go in a back room! Not to mention the cheap ass price tag...$13....!!!! AMAZING!
So my friend Sarah tells me she gets her eyebrows threaded and I am intrigued. Her brows always look great. She also tells me threading doesn't hurt as much as waxing. This sold me so I decide to go get my thick brows tamed.
As I laid in the chair getting the hairs ripped out of my head by a piece of string all I could think was that Sarah is a dirty liar. It hurt way more than waxing. I had already decided I wouldn't be doing this again.
Then I sat up and looked at my eyebrows. They were perfect. Like Reese Witherspoon perfect.
So, even though it hurt like a mother, it was worth it. I shall only be going here for threading from now on.
Just got back from Waxing House for Brazillian. I WAY prefer this over the doubled price fancy places back in Cali. The owner, Christine was super nice, unpretentious, efficient, and didn't bother you with small talk. The place is clean, she knew just what she was doing and I was in and out of there in 15 min. Thank goodness this place is a block away. I love not having to make an appt. I will go back. Nothing fancy at this place but great service, clean, and great price!
I decided to try this place yesterday for a brow wax based on recommendations from a coworker and my roommate. They did a great job for a great price ($13 for a brow wax) and it definitely beat out the salon I was going to for brow waxes ($20?! No, thank you!). They were quick, thorough, and no-nonsense. I was also surprised of how little it hurt! So they do the brow wax in a not-so-private room - who cares? It's just your eyebrows. I'm definitely going back.
Ok so this place was better than the last place I tried out (Sonia's Salon) but not good enough to justify the difference in price between the two. An eyebrow thread here is $13 whereas Sonia's charges only $8.
It did the trick for my NYE rendezvous I was planning for that evening but I probably won't come back here. In fact, I'm going to try out a million different places because I am confident that in a city with millions of inhabitants, there HAS to be an eyebrow threading place that I will love.
My main criticism here is that she took off a little too much from my left inner side of the brow and the threading throughout the brow was a little splotchy; too thick in certain areas and too thin in others.
One of the great things about this place is that she did a nice, firm temple massage at the end. That was very relaxing and a nice way to end.
Ok so the search is still on....I will keep you updated.
Just came back after going on the advice of yelp. I was in and out in under 10 minutes. Probably the most painless waxing I have had (I did however take 3 advil before). The people who work there are very nice, but it is no nonsense which is fine with me as was is very affordable and done well.
Note: Walked in today without an appointment and had an eyebrow wax. Looks great and a fantastic price. Highly recommended!
I've been going to The Waxing House for about 3 months now to get my eyebrows threaded. I wont go anywhere else to get this done! It's only $13 and looks amazing! I have very dark, coarse hair... so it's important that it's done correctly or mistakes are very noticeable!
The other day I had my face waxed for the first time here and I found it to be quite painless. It was actually kindof relaxing! And the results look great! I'll be back to get the rest of my body waxed (ha!)
Highly recommended!

Update:
I've been back now a few times for a (gulp) brazillian. I was a first timer, and I'm not going to lie... it was a bit painful. HOWEVER, the result was amazing. No bleeding or ingrown hairs. I'm hooked! Just pop an advil before you go ;)
Being used to the european wax (the one which is hot and looks like thick honey) I found the ones liquid-like with the strip, to be very painful on my sensitive bikini area. Esther was super nice though, and the place very clean. I have to find a place where the waxers use the conventional (less hygienic I believe) wax.
In Miami, where I moved from, and in Latin America we are used to that wax and it's not painful at all, no matter what they say I find it easier on my skin.
Whatever works for you!
Im naturally blonde. Now I am brunette... so that means that I look like a freak, unless I do something about my blonde eyebrows. They do an amazing job of eyebrow tinting and threading. $25.00 for both.
I love them, nicest women. Its two sisters and both are great at what they do.
Very clean and friendly.
I love this place! I have tried Georgette Klinger and Mario Tricoci over the past few years and recently learned they do not hold a candle to The Waxing House in terms of quality of service and price - which is mind boggling considering both Klinger and Tricoci amp themselves up as somehow being superior in quality of service.
The owner is unpretentious and very polite, not to mention, the service is great! I especially love the code names for the different types of brazilians - so I can schedule my appointments while sitting at my desk at work and no one is the wiser!
I am always made to feel as comfortable as possible and get great restaurant recommendations while I'm in there, too!
I went to the Waxing House because it was just down the block from my apartment and the overwhelmingly positive reviews here on Yelp.
It was just as fantastic as everyone says. I got my brows threaded by Esther, and they look great. It only cost $13, which is really good. It was very comfortable there, a nice relaxed atmosphere. I fully plan on going back.
Very friendly and they do a good job.
i have found my new cheap waxing place. it's $45 for a modified brazilian and only $35 for a brazilian. what a deal! it may be hard to believe but it was actually less painful than anywhere i've been before.
for the -1 star: the room isn't so private. when she opened the door to leave any passerby can peep through and see you without any pants on. oh, and any conversation you have about what you want to do with your underparts are probably audible to the rest of the tiny salon. so be cautious of what you say. others can hear you!
I would not recommend this place to any first timer for a brazilian. It was a great price - $35 for a full brazilian... you can't beat that with a stick - but you honestly get what you pay for. The place is rinky dinky, clean though but small and nothing fancy at all. The job was well done though - can't complain about that - it was done in record time... 15 minutes!!! WHOA! Although I'd have to say that there was no finesse about it. It was pretty much smear and yank... no tauting of the skin before yanking, no intervals before the next smearing, no explanation of what's going where and when... it was more of a tighten-abs-brace-yourself-OUCH!-OUCH!, followed by tweeze-tweeze-JOLT!-JOLT! (Esther's voice: Aaaallmoooost done...) tweeze-tweeze-wipe-wipe - YOUR DONE! Good thing I don't have sensitive skin. So good price, the results could've been better (she missed a few vital spots) but no fancy schmancy spa experience.
P.s. It was nice not having to fake a conversation though...saying all that... I'll be going back.
The main owner Christine is a pro. She has been in the business for a very long time and came from a well known waxing salon. If you are looking for an affordable no-nonsense approach...this is your place. They offer a discount card for repeat customers, so make sure to pick one up while you are there.
Thought I would check this place out after reading all the postive reviews. I got an eyebrow threading and I brought my sister who got a eyebrow wax. The setup is very awkward - you walk down a few steps and sit and wait while starring at the other person getting their treatment withing a few feet away from you. Very uncomfortable. The woman took awhile to tread my eyebrows; 10-15 minutes. Which would make sense why me and my sister walked out with barely any eyebrows! She made them PAPER THIN even after we both asked her to "clean up" our eyebrows. I would never go back especially for $15.
So, threading was the other personal service I was so, so , so curious about. I have heard others talk about the places on Devon Avenue and for the life of me, I can never find them. I pass a "Japanese" threading place on Peterson but they are always closed. So, a few months ago, I passed the Waxing House, and I took the plunge (again!).
First, I should note that I had asked my cosmetician about threading. She did not recommend it for me. She said "NO, don't do it." She indicated that I had super oily skin, and in the summer months, threading could create a problem.
But, heck, I forgot that advice and walked in. The place was empty. It was OK, I was not expecting a huge salon experience as I know this place when it was another facial place years ago. I indicated I wanted a full face threading. Go for it, I wanted that smooth baby face. Well, OUCH, it hurts. I'd rather exercise or get a colonic ,that is much easier. I had to rethink this on the spot. You are having your hair pulled out by the roots. What was I expecting!
So, I got through it. I felt at the end, she rushed it a bit as another person walked in and requested a waxing. She finished in a hurry to attend to the other client. It was $42 for about 10 minutes.
But wait, my facial expect was correct. A day later, my skin started to break out with small annoying surface pimples and it kept on coming for almost a week. I mentioned it to Sabina. Her response was her original advice. This is only an option if I have a full week before anything important comes up. All in all, I am probably not suited to threading. But, I tried it. I might consider just eyebrows, but my girl does such a great job. I'll stick with her.
I just moved here from AZ and didn't think I would be able to find a decent priced waxing place. I ended up at the waxing house (after trying the waxing room) and decided to go with the threading instead. I got my eyebrows and lip threaded. It looks great, didn't hurt any worse that waxing, and it was priced well. I will definitely make this my new home waxing place!!
A great place, and the threading is wonderful. The ladies that run it are sisters, and they're really cool. Esther used to work at Nail Bar a few years ago, and she has a lot of experience.
I had been a repeat client here for threading and waxing since when they first opened. Very nice staff and enjoyable head massages after eyebrow threading. For the most part, I had ok experiences...good enough for the price and convenient location. The reason for the 2 stars - I went there w/ my cousin a few days before my wedding last May. LUCKILY, I had the same, "ok" experience that I usually had. However, it was a very different story for my cousin, who was standing as my bridesmaid. There was only one person working there midday on a weekday. She threaded her eyebrows and then put extremely hot wax on her upper lip. Then, answered a phone call, leaving the hot wax on my cousin for longer than acceptable. She ended up tearing a layer of skin off her face, which was not only painful, but left her w/ a scab that she had to figure out how to hide on my wedding day. I felt TERRIBLE for taking her there. So, the only thing that saves this place from a 1 are the "ok" experiences I had prior to my wedding.
