My mother LOVED this place.  However, the shoes I bought hurt my feet!  They were fine in the store (for all the five minutes I had them on), but the sales associate insisted (very aggressive) that I purchase some inserts/in soles.  Those really weren't comfortable at all.  I went to try the shoes with the original insoles...and the store had kept them.

Keep in mind that ONE pair of shoes cost me $200.  I'm the type of girl that will spend $500 or more on shoes that are stylish and comfortable.  But these sneakers were ugly and bought ONLY for a comfortable shoe for the gym.  Considering they hurt my feet...ugh.

I returned them.  The store issues refunds with a "check in the mail" by only (if purchase is over $100--and most things in the store are!).  It took over a month for the check to arrive.

They do have a "cool" scan thing to analyze how you stand.  However, what it really does is convince you that they know your feet better than you do...so beware!  Trust yourself first, if you go there.  Pressure is high and they're rather good at explaining how what they know is better than what you feel in your feet!

(Incidentally, the shoes my mother purchased have already started breaking down, less than a month after purchase...and are starting to get uncomfortable.)

I'm ticked because I just wrote a whole ranting review and apparently timed out of Yelp in the process. I'll post my review as soon as I can recall just what the heck I said.

okay.... here's more or less what I said in the first place:

My 20 minutes of waiting in the rain was not made any more pleasant or comfortable by the "Be Right Back" sign taped to the door. I know, most of you wouldn't probably have waited 20 minutes to get into a store (unless they were having an incredible midnight madness sale or something) but I was curious just how long "right back" would turn out to be.  When the clerk finally did return, he didn't apologize for keeping me waiting in the rain or see if I had been waiting long. No, he smirked at me and let me inside with hardly a word.

The shoes that had looked decent though the window turned out to be not-so-attractive upon closer inspection, nor did they have the comfort features one might expect from shoes sold at a walking store. Arches, for one, were scarce. Why-oh-why can't anyone figure out how to make a shoe that is both cute AND comfortable?! If Tesla Motors (http://www.teslamotors...) can figure out how to make a 100% electric car that is both HOT and will give any Porche or Ferrari a run for their money, why can't anyone design a comfortable shoe that is attractive? Seriously, this isn't rocket science. My only hypotheses are as follows: (a) the powers that be think people with bad feet actually LIKE orthodic looking shoes, and advertising their bad feet with ugly shoes; or (b) they think we won't believe that the comfort features they advertise are really in that cute little shoe. [Redux: (a) we have bad taste or (b) we're dumb.]

Anyway, I was not impressed with either the service or the selection at The Walking Store. I'm sticking to Zappos.
