This place is beautiful. I visit here when in town to have a lovely afternoon stroll along the board walk. Each time I go here I always see such a pretty variety of birds and other animals. Well worth the time to stop by and visit this place.

Great place for a nice stroll after a meal! I had Breakfast Sunday morning and decided to check out the Wetlands. I was here a long time ago and was due for a re-visit. I was so happy to hear the bird sounds and see all the beautiful vegetation Florida has to offer. The stroll took over an hour I really took my time to look at the birds, Gators, took pictures, and looked over the railings. The folks walking by were also friendly saying hi and took pictures for me. The experience was great and I gave it 5 starts simply because I was entertained and it was a friendly atmosphere and did I forget to mention my favorite word- FREE! What Can be better than that?

Great little park very close to the Japanese garden and the AOS down the road. I didn't see any gators the day that I was there, alas, but there were plentiful wildfowl, fish, and flora. The boardwalk is kept in good condition and there are shelters here and there. Good times.

Wakodahatchee, or Wako, is a great place to view a slice of the Everglades ecosystem. It's much smaller than it's large cousin Green Cay Wetlands. It's 3/4 mile boardwalk winds around the water areas, or wetland pond. These ponds are usually populated with all sorts of wetland critters.
It is open seven days a week, from sunrise to sunset, and it's free!
Pros : Wako is great place to get closeup photos of nesting wetland birds. Often seen are green herons, and anhinga nesting in the trees. If you're lucky you'll also see a gator catching a daily meal. Turtles, moorhens, and purple galinule flourish here.
Cons : Due to its smaller nature, it is often crowded and noisy. Within the crowds are also photographers with tripods, so its does get cramped. As a photographer, I wouldn't leave my tripod since people tend to not pay attention to where they walk. During migration times, it does get very crowded, as so in the winter when people are visiting from the north. -

Perfect place for an afternoon stroll to appreciate a created wetland masterpiece. The boardwalk is very well kept-up and affords fantastic views of nesting areas. While all the birdwatchers can be pretty intimidating, most are very nice people who are more than happy to share what they're looking at and tell you a little bit about it. Great array of migrating birds and assorted wildlife. You can't beat the free admission and parking!

Easily accessible for all ages and an easy 1/2 mile loop where you can view a bit of "old" florida as it was. Plenty of wildlife to spot on each visit-search for the turtles, gators and herons. You feel like you have been transported somewhere other than West Delray...it's quiet and peaceful if you can avoid the busy times.

I don't have much to add to Zoe W.'s review. Its a great, extremely accessible nature walk. Walking along the wooden 2~3 mile boardwalk. Aligators, egrets, turtles, frogs and lots more can be found among the rushes and swamp grasses. And its all free! Who can ask for anything more?

I love this place! The baby anhingas and great blue herons are soooo cute. It's about a mile all the way around the place. Every time I am in the area I go to this place and it is always full of life-this time around I saw a baby gator just sunning himself in the shallow part on a mud bog.

I can't believe no one has reviewed this place yet? Maybe the name throws people off? This is one of my favorite spots in Florida. It's a sprawling wetland/marshland with a 2-3 mile wooden walkway circuit covering the different areas. There are so many different types of animals here like the Anhinga, Warblers, Egrets, Hawks, Herons, ALLIGATORS, ALLIGATORS, ALLIGATORS! The birds here are crazy and have their own little sanctuary islands and nests, as well as the turtles. Funny story, last time this one bird was making this elaborate take off in the air scene and it came flying low to the ground in my direction so I lifted my arms up and it flew right through my arms, haha. If I caught it I would for sure have scratches all over my face seeing as it was the Anhinga. Tons of turtles, especially the enormous weird looking, snapping ones with the funny snouts and schools of catfish and mosquito fish. There are marsh rabbits, snakes and ALLIGATORS! alligators are so cool! You gotta look for em like Where's Waldo because they don't move much and blend in really well, sometimes you only see the tops of their heads as the rest of their body is submerged underneath the water. Last time I came here there were THREE BABY ALLIGATORS! How cute is that?! I only saw one of them but seeing that little guy swim around by himself when he's only the size of my foot (size 61/2) is really cute and then you wonder where's the momma...*CHOMP*

I was staying in the Delray area on vacation when I found this place thru yelp! This is a very cool place to see FL wildlife up close and it's free. We saw three giant crocs, many diving ducks, egrets, minows and a couple different turtles. This is a good place to spend 45-60 minutes.
