One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
I am a huge fan of breakfast food and I'm absolutely in love with the Waffle Window! Having first tried them last summer, I've probably eaten there at least a dozen times. Their ingredients are always fresh and seasonal and the flavor combinations that are offered are amazing. My favorite last summer was the waffle topped with blueberries, whipped cream and lime curd. However, the waffle itself is what really makes these waffles fantastic!! Warm, crunchy and sweet, I can eat these waffles on their own!
My husband and I were in the neighborhood when we were picking up last minute Halloween costumes at Red Light and decided to have a snack across the street. I ordered a sweet waffle called "Autumn Adieu" which was topped with marionberries, lime panna cotta, fresh whipped cream, lime curd and kiwi. The tartness of the marionberries really went well with the creamy and refreshing panna cotta. My husband enjoyed the savory ham and cheese waffle which was topped with hot syrup. Both were delicious and went really well with our green tea mint lemonade and we can't wait to come back!
Stand out in the cold and order a waffle? A friggin waffle?
Don't think twice, this is some tasty grub.
Imagine the two waffles my wife and I shared:
A savory one topped with bacon, brie and basil, followed by a sweet one topped with pumpkin pie, whipped cream and a tasty syrup.
They're hot and they went into my belly followed by hot and strong northwest coffee.
I don't even know where to being. The Three B's was one of the most incredible treats I've ever had. Honestly, I'd put that on my top 10 list of best things of all time.
I tried to explain the flavors coming together perfectly, but it was like explaining a fresh 15inch dumping of fresh powder to someone who doesn't ski. And by powder, I mean the powdered sugar that is perfectly dusted onto the plain waffle which was delicious in it own right, but no 3B.
An incredible place, great price, can't be beat.
This spot is super cute, I love the waffle window! The three B's is darn tasty and my fave was a rich pumpkin waffle with a load of thick whipped cream! I think that one is seasonal so get it while you can!
The window has reached that plateau where there's hardly anything original you can say about it.
My wife and I began our recent love affair with Waffles in the summer of 2008 at the original Flavour Spot. We then continued it closer to home when we discovered the Waffle Wagon on Division. While we still like to support the Wagon when we can, The Window has become the gold waffle standard. They can do no wrong.
We've done the savory classics: Three B's, Farm Fusion, Ham and Cheese. We've dabbled in sweetness. This past weekend we hit up the specials: Pumpkin Pie and Falling Leaves (pear, raspberries, chocoloate sauce, whipped cream). My wife was on cloud nine and I was in hot pursuit.
The prices are great. You can eat inside(!). They have several beverage options. It's the epitome of 5-stars... as good as it gets.
(from a few months ago):
The bacon, brie, and basil waffle was delicious. The lemonade was okay.
I want to have an affair with the Waffle Window! To begin with, their waffles are delicious. Their brilliance in the kitchen is absolutely notable in every aspect of the menu. Both savory and sweet options adorn the list of waffle choices, and they are all amazing.
Even though the seating are a few picnic tables on the side of the building, the simplicity of this entire experience is rather nice.
The Farm Fusion was fantastic - a perfect breakfast. The seasonal Berry Waffle had pana cotta on top, and when we asked to taste their lime curd, they not only gave us a taste, but a side for our sweet waffle! At $4 a dish, this may be the best bargain in Portland. It's most certainly one of the most delicious foods in the city.
The Farm Fusion is currently nestled in my stomach and I felt I must run over to the computer and tell everyone what all of Portland already knows: THE WAFFLE WINDOW IS THE MOST MAGICAL PLACE ON EARTH.
Words simply cannot describe the Farm Fusion. Goat cheese, roasted red peppers, spinach, mushrooms and tomato. All atop the most fantastic, perfectly sweet waffle you'll ever have. OK, so that basically covered it. But words cannot describe the FEELING you get when you take the first bite. And second. And third...
Don't let the cold keep you away from this magic window! They let you wait/eat inside!
A+
Like everyone else said.
I love real whipped cream like WHOA!
There was real whipped cream on my waffle and in my cocoa.
I had the Farm Fresh. It was good and I am always a fan of goat cheese and spinach BUT I had a bite of my partner's The Three B's and wished I could have had it myself. I would go back.
There is something disheartening about being the 169th review. At that point are there really any witty remarks or keen observations left to make?
Yes, the waffles are o-m-g-w-t-f good! I'm really not much of a breakfast person. In my mind is it the lesser of the meals, not the most important, sometimes I skip it completely! However the Farm Fusion could change my mind. I went for the Farm Fusion, purely because I'd never heard of anything like it before. spinach , mushroom and cheese on a waffle...are you sure? Fuck yes they were sure, they were damn sure. It is not to sweet, which is what turns me off from a lot of breakfast food. It was savory...and a lovely change from the normal take on waffles.
My eyes are most often larger then my tummy. When getting ready to order I thought to myself...one waffle? I'm gonna need more then that. Then diet-mode kicked in and I begrudgingly talked myself down to one waffle. I am so happy I did, because it was super filling, two would've been pushing it.
So if you haven't already, do it, over and over again.
Yumm! Waffle window is selling Waffle's like Hot cakes!.
I been trying to get to try these excellent waffles on prior trips but this attempt was a success due to their extended hours.
mmm? what should I try? the three B's? mm maybe next time...Banana,Carmel icecream waffle...Yeah! ...It was soo good topped with Carmel sauce, vanilla ice cream with (might of been Granola or frosted flakes?)...and the Waffle's that was hidden with this massive covering of goodness was still had crisp texture and a hint of Cinnamon complimenting everything to the great taste of waffle to the toppings.
I'm not a big fan of mixing flavors. It's either sweet or savory not both. One of the main reasons I've never quite understood the maple bacon donut at voodoo. Perhaps I'm a snob, maybe I'm scared who knows. BUT the point to this story is that I'm no fool. I wanted a waffle and I wanted it sugary and sweet (yeah!) so what do I do? I get the waffle with fruit and whip cream on it. No gravy on my waffle thank you. And guess what? My waffle was spectacular.
Now that's not to say I don't think their mixed combination waffles are just as tasty (I'm sure the cornucopia of flavors do it for some people) but that I'm probably not going to try them.
My suggestion however? Get two or three waffles. Try multiples make a meal out of it (I guess?).
What can I say about a place that 174 people before me didn't already cover? This little Dutch door on 36th (practically an alley if it weren't for, you know, all the houses there) is unbelievably awesome. How do they achieve both fluffy and firm? It's genius.
My first visit I opted for the plain waffle sprinkled with sugar. Awesome take-away food to chomp on while window shopping. Hot chocolate was also delicious.
Lately, I can't seem to get away from the pear Nutella waffle piled high with real, honest-to-God whipped cream, drizzled with caramel, and dusted ever so lightly with cinnamon. Off. The. Charts.
The Bud prefers the savory waffles, so I've nibbled a bit of the ham and cheese waffle. Yummy, but I prefer my sweets.
They have a reasonable amount of seating along the side of the building, along the back parking lot, and even a little bit inside Bread & Ink cafe as well.
Love, love, love this place.
I
effing.
love.
this.
place.
Best breakfast/brunch/value for what you get/ cute/quaint and great gimmick-y place ever! I wish I lived in Portland just so I could frequent this place. When you go try both a salty and sweet waffle. It'll fill you up sure, but you'll enjoy the mix of flavors. I loved my two orders: the ham one with rhubarb ketchup (say what?! it was delicious) and berry bliss. It was blissful with a touch of citrus syrup to take it to that next level.
This place accepts credit card!! If only I'd known! Well, there was a Wells Fargo and BoA nearby at least..
Shout out to Jen W. for finding this place and making our trip uber delicious.
What $4 will get you in 2009:
A) Shipping for a used book on http://Amazon.com with $0.01 left over for those 151 out of 365 rainy days.
B) A 0.33 oz bottle of non-shi shi nail polish.
C) Bubble tea with enough to spring for those boba choking hazards.
D) 1 golden crispy Liège waffle (Belgian, but better) topped with thick cut Black Forest ham, sprinkled with Jarlsburg & Gruyère, & schmeared with housemade rhubarb-rosemary ketchup + 1 canine groupie.
I know what I'm doing with my 4 George Washingtons, do you?
PS: Before dear departed President Nixon took us off the gold standard, $4 in 1971 was equivalent to $21.13 2009 dollars. I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time....
Possibly the most fun and unique place to eat in Portland. First of all, the restaurant is a window. A freaking window! Oh man. Right there, it's off to a good start and it just gets better. The waffles are delicious, creative, and extremely cheap. $4-5 (depending on the kind of waffle) will get you a very filling meal.
I highly recommend the Bacon-Brie-Basil which is oh so savory and very satisfying. The generous strips of pepper bacon really bring the dish together, The dessert waffles with ice cream are also phenomenal. I'm also a huge fan of their raspberry lemonade.
I can't think of a single bad thing to say about the Waffle Window. If you don't believe me, check one of the other 100+ reviews. It's that good.
Literally a hole in the wall. Literally a window in the wall!
They must have created the lavender nectarine with lemon panna cotta waffle special just for me. It was the first item I saw and I just knew. The lavender lemonade was screamed to me as well. The rest of the menu consisted of both sweet and savory waffles, which is perfect because the ideal meal here would entail one of each. Be prepared for long lines.
yuppie-phobic persons are advised to stay away.

Minimalist review: Get the 3 B's.
Slightly expanded version: The 3 B's (bacon, brie, and basil) is a masterpiece. These three B's provide a lovely combination when resting atop a slightly sweet waffle. Because these folks know how to do things just right, they also include a side of apricot jam for dipping.
The Nutella banana waffle is also very good, but be aware there is whipped cream included, despite the lack disclosure on the menu. This would be welcomed by most, but I do not appreciate unsolicited whipped cream, even if it appears to be homemade.
Waffle....waffle...waffle from the window waffle! Waffle waffle the heavenly waffle. Mmm.. it yum yum good.
Thx to all the good yelp reveiws so we decided this to be one of gotta try spot in Oregon. Everything here is freshly made in right when after u ordered. For the most part all the waffles is abt 4 bucks and it perfect size... Just right to not be too full yet to make the stomach happy =)
we ordered berry bliss, ham and cheese and 3 b's. All were Delicious! The berry bliss was too pretty to eat with all that pretty fresh berry decoration.
Usually I am a pancake person... O boy... This place might just change me to a waffle person. Now I wish we have a cute shop like this back in the bay area.
This is definitely a must try place in my book! Yay to happy eating.
During my week on vacation, I trekked on over to the Waffle Window for my second visit. The Hawthorne Fair was pretty bleak and I was craving the golden waffle. Once the lines were down, I scooted back to the window and was greeted by the same friendly guy who took my order a month ago. Last time I had the sweet banana waffle special so this time I wanted the savory bite for lunch. I read that the 3 B's; bacon, brie, and basil was a hit and surely enough it was.
My order was prompt and quick. The service was super friendly and the best thing was that under $5 bucks, I had a waffle plate that semi-filled me up. The waffle is slightly sweet and easy enough to cut with a fork. The sweet jam goes well with the B's and doesn't ruin the flavors. I did had to fight some bee's to enjoy my meal so I moved to the other side of the street to enjoy my dish. The green tea lemonade cooled me off and well worth the $2.
I am impressed with the speedy service and friendly staff. I liked the convenience that they are open until 9 during the summer so no need to rush down on Hawthorne for a waffle fix. The ice cream waffle dishes look promising; I'll wait when the next hot day arrives....
Well ... like everyone else, I love the Waffle Window.
What would I change? I'd fix the outside tables so they are not so wobbly. I'd offer real (not paper) plates. And I'd get better coffee.
What would I keep? Everything else.
Give it an A+.
The Triple B. No, that's not a bra size. Though I guess that would be a strange bra size. I mean, I heard of Double D.. anyhow. I'm getting off subject here.
The Waffle Window.. has there been an invention, besides the bra, that would make one drool and want to get their hands all over some tasty treats?
Oh yeah.. creamy.. there you go. Now I went the full course of double entrendas for this review.
I had a triple B.. which besides being a non-existent bra size, is a waffle with bacon, brie and basil. How delicious is this combination on top of a waffle? Well, it's pretty damn amazing.
Also tried a little bit of the basic strawberry/whipped cream waffle. I say a little bit because I didn't want to get my hand cut off trying to go for another bite.
The whole concept is amazingly fun. It's on a side street and all it is, is a window to a building. You place your order and you're good to go with getting a waffle in a couple of minutes of wait. Extremely dirt cheap to boot!
There really is no better way to get breakfast, and if you're a late sleeper like me, your mid day/late meal. Because really, when you're in Portland and there's all those food options, you should just stop thinking of anything as breakfast, lunch or dinner. There's just eating eating, eating and more eating.
If you ever find yourself in Portland, and if there's justice in the world, you will one day, you owe it to yourself to go to the waffle window. Simply a must experience thing to do.
Thanks for pointing us in the direction of the Waffle Window, yelpers. It was glorious, and also gloriously cheap.
For starters, this place is an actual window. Don't try going into the attached restaurant unless you want a different menu and a sit-down meal. The Waffle Window is just around the corner from the restaurant entrance, and it is so quaint and cute that it looks like it came right off the Gilmore Girls set. The main restaurant does offer both outdoor and indoor seating for Waffle Window customers, which is a bonus.
We tried the Green Tea Mint Lemonade, and it was so deliciously refreshing that I wished I had a gallon to take home. I got the 3 B's waffle: bacon, brie, and basil. It comes with peach jam on the side, and when eaten together, it was sweet and savory perfection.
I can't wait to go back to Portland so that I can eat here again!
Very tasty fruit and whip cream smothered waffle. Enjoyed the green tea lemonade as well.
that's it. short and sweet.
Just go to the Waffle Window!
Everybody's right about this one. Waffle Window kicks ass and can feed two people for under $10.
Just watch out for the bees if you're sitting outside. They know there's good stuff on the plates coming out of that window and they don't leave you alone.
Just Go. Now!
Apparently I told my friend to come here on a date for breakfast a couple of months ago and I never been here. I looked it up on Yelp for him and it looked good based on the reviews. Fast forward to now, my friend's brother asked to go here and I was up for it. I told them that I never heard of this place. My friend reminded me that I was the one that introduced them to this place and now they have been hooked since then. Oops, I must be getting old...
With a name like Waffle Window, my first impression was "Is this a drive-thru?" Nope, it's a blue window door on the side of a building. No line at the window, so we ordered our waffles. It was hard to choose. I asked the man what was the most popular waffle and he said it was the "Three B's" - Bacon, Brie, and Basil with homemade peach jam. It sounded good, but I decided on Berry Bliss - raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries with a whipped cream and powered sugar on top. It was soo good. The waffle itself was sweet and crispy. I did try a piece of the "Three B's" and I sorta wished that I got that waffle. The sweetness of the waffle complimented the savoriness of the toppings, but I was happy with my choice.
We wanted to sit outside since the weather was so nice, but not enough chairs. We ended up inside the Bread and Ink Cafe where they reserve some tables for Waffle Window patrons.
Spinach on a waffle. Four words I never thought would be anywhere near each other in a sentence, much less actually form a sentence (or a run-on).
Spinach on a waffle is heaven. Add on mushrooms, bell peppers, cheese, and grape tomatoes, and it's euphoria in heaven.
My sister got the Berry Bliss, which had blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries with whip cream on a waffle. It's actually better than it sounds.
Their waffles aren't like any others I've had before--they're the perfect blend of sweetness and crispiness.
At $4 a waffle, it's easy to eat breakfast, lunch AND dinner at the Waffle Window. It's the perfect place to grab breakfast on a sunny Portland morning but also the perfect place to have an after dinner dessert (the place is open till 9 p.m. in the summer).
Portland seems obsessed with seemingly quirky food places- late night party carts, Montage, oddball donuts, overhyped elitists that serve burned pizza, and now waffles. Look! You can walk up to a DOOR (it's not a window, it's a dutch door) and get a 5 dollar piece of waffle on a paper plate with stuff other than maple syrup on it! Wow! That's C-R-A -ZEE! At least the Flavor Spot place over on Lombard kicks down a healthy portion.
I really need to figure out some stupid thing that would get the hipsters lining up. Let's see... maybe a beat up old VW bus that serves Vegemite toast and chip butties? Who's in?
Whhhhhyyyy!!?!!??? Can someone please tell me why??? Why, only in Portland do they sell this wonderfully fresh and delightful concoction of pure bliss!!?? Now I have to drive 3 hrs to address my addiction to this place, gads and the government is worried about drug enforcement? This stuff they peddle outta this place is the stuff they should be worried about!!
We had 2 waffles, one plain and the other the Razzle Dazzle, OMG, pure manna from heaven, sadly heaven is a 3 hour drive away from us... Fresh raspberries, with fresh whipped cream and a light drizzle of lemon curd, served on a waffle, I'm about to head back now just thinking about it...
The waffle was kind of glazed, which kept it a bit crunchy during the 49 seconds it took my Dad and I to devour this heavenly morsel, while waiting for the kiddos to finish up shopping at Red Light across the way.
Damn, I might have to look for a job in Portland, so that I can feed my newest addiction. YOU GOTTA TRY THIS PLACE!! If you don't, you'll be sorry!! A seasonal season and menu, it well worth the trip, need I say more? Oh, YUM-O!!
I owe the waffle window a HUGE apology...
Their waffles are absolutely delicious!!!! I love love love how the waffles are crispy and sweet on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside... yum!!! again, the toppings are outstanding... my new fave (aside from the three B's) is the triple berry sundae! I love that the fruits weren't sour and that the berry sauce didn't overwhelm the waffle... && honestly, how can something ever go wrong if it's dished up with a scoop of ice cream?? :)
I think my first visit must have been a fluke but my last few visits have completely converted me into a true waffle window fanatic...

Bacon + Brie + Basil = one ingenious idea that is SO divine!!!
This combination is just… Read more »
I'm glad we tried this place. It's in a funky, lively neighborhood in Southeast Portland. You literally walk up to a window (expect a line) and order your waffles. There are a few outdoor tables, but thanks to reading Yelp, I knew they also reserved a few in their restaurant for waffle window eaters. Since it was a chilly morning, we loved that option and easily found window seats inside.
I had to try the bacon, basil, and brie waffle. It comes with apricot preserves. I probably wouldn't order it again, but not because it wasn't good. It was just so rich and so unique. Glad I tried it. Also glad, however, that my daughter and I shared the Oregon Strawberry waffle piled high with whipped cream. Glorious! and something I'd definitely order again.
You'll need orange juice or coffee with it to wash down the sweetness.
Though it was all a bit rich and sweet for me, it was all good and quite a fun way to start our final day in Portland before we drove up to Gig Harbor, Washington.
$14. Three waffles. Two coffees. One very, very happy me sitting street-side, chomping a Triple B and sharing a lemon-berry for dessert during a cozy gray early-June day.
Halfway into the Triple B - mouth oozing with gooey Brie and bacon - it hits me: this isn't really a waffle-waffle. It's more like an old-fashioned-donut-waffle: sweet and a little crunchy on the outside. Which begs the question: how the fuck do they make these things, anyway?
Maybe they make them with love. Maybe they make them with opium seeds. Or maybe they make them with the souls of innocent children. But my mouth's half-full of fresh, warm waffle, so I really don't give a shit what's in 'em. I just want to know how I can eat all of them, immediately.
Which begs another question: Is this really a Belgian waffle? Because if so, we should all go to Brussels. Right now.
I was riding the fence whether or not I should give four or five stars. Then my wife knocked some sense into me. Five stars all the way.
Seen and heard about this place through so many different outlets in the past, we just have to give it a shot. And, man, was it worth it. The waffles were great. The raspberries were really good. And, whipped cream with lemon curd to boot? Amazing. It really did almost seem like a dessert. Either way, does it matter?
A very simple place, with a very simple menu. When we went, about 11AM on a weekday, the service was very nice and speedy. The prices are great, very affordable. Which is double as good because I think next time I'll get a second waffle.
I would recommend this place in a heart beat to anyone that loves a good waffle. I can't tell you how good the waffle is.
Love it. Consistently great quality, great service, lots of creativity. Best. Waffles. Ever. A plain sugar waffle puts a smile on my face, and it just gets better from there.
Really, really excellent waffles. trade secret how they manage the always consistent balance of super buttery, rich crisp crunch, and yet, soft, billowy chewiness of a belgian-like waffle with the most creative of gourmet mixes....
It's what they have all mentioned already... offerings come both savoury and sweet. wonderful toppings like triple B" Bacon brie and basil or the wonderful mixtures of fruit and oh! I do recall a lemony curd one. My Angeleno brother loves the Nutella waffle... oh perfection has come to town in the form of a literal window on the west side of Break and Ink Cafe on SE Hawthorne.
One really hasn't had a waffle until he's tried the Waffle Window. Simply perfect.
I ordered blue berries waffle from the little window.
The berries sauce was surprise goodnot too sweet.
omg the BEST waffles i've ever had. whoever thought up this idea is a genius!!! they are DELICIOUS and CHEAP, what more can you ask for.
i was deciding between the three b's and the farm fusion/the whole farm. the lady who took my order said the whole farm was her favorite so i got it and do not regret it AT ALL. sooooooo delicious. on top of a square waffle, there was mushroom, spinach, pepper, baby tomatoes with bacon. looked small at first but filled me up. best $5 spent that whole night!!
After an early morning flight and checking into a hostel for the first time in my life (yeah, I was slummin it)....I walked down the road and passed by several places. I ended up turning around and going to the waffle window. The guy at the window was very friendly. I studied the menu for a while and finally ordered the 3Bs waffle with a green tea lemonade. The waffle was great. crispy outside, slightly cakey inside. The brie melted nicely and went perfectly with the bacon and basil. The jam on the side kicks things up a bit.
The green tea lemonade was not impressive. It tasted like bad snapple.
Go simple with the tea.
Let me tell you something. The last time I had a Belgian waffle that tasted like this was in Belgium. I was nine years old. There was a little shop in the Gran Plas that had these delicious, sweet crispy waffles that were soft and chewy on the inside. I also remember my mom getting into an argument with a random lady who tried to shoo me off of my seat so she could take it.
Anyway...the plain sweet waffle is pretty bomb. The other one I tried was the Bacon Brie and Basil...my goodness, what a great combination. The staff is friendly, they are generally quick to get the goods out, and there is seating where you can take care of biz right next to the window. Whether you need breakfast or a snack, mess with the waffle window. It's the combination of funk & quality that you can expect from Portland.
