3 things I love about the Voo Doo Room:
1. The Voodoo Doll! When in Rome...err when in Voodooland do as the Dolls do? Totally hits the spot in so many different ways.
2. Ribs ribs ribs...the five spice ribs are totally riblicsious!
3. Curry fries: These seem to go with both #1 and #2. Perfect blend of curry spices with a refreshing dipping sauce.
And we mustn't forget the lovely hostess and staff, super friendly and entertaining.
All in all if you wanna delve into the land of Voodooism, try the Voo Doo Lounge first for some great drinks and eats. After that if you still wanna play with needles and dolls and what not, at least you'll have had a great time before the curses! -

Cool, hot n' jumpin'!
I was going to hold my review until the grand opening but WTF!
The first few weeks for any new business is rough but these guys came off the starting blocks like real pros.
We've had nothing but fun here over and over again.
This corner of Santa Monica and Robertson seemed to be cursed for the last few years and the solution was definitely try a little Voodoo healing!
Rob and crew created some awesome and powerfully strong tropical drinks, my favorite being the Tiki-fuckaround. The tapas menu leans towards spicy but everything we tried so far rocks. The five spice ribs and curry fries seem to get our reorder most often. I had mixed reactions to the strawberries in balsamic with crme frache, that was until Rob dumped them into a blender with some alcoholic delights and frapped it into a killer dessert martini. I thought he did it as a joke but when we went back the following week we saw people drinking them.
The vibe is tiki lounge with a hipper if not somewhat darker edge. The music is crazy cool though. During Sunday brunch they played oldies from Keeley Smith, Don Tiki, Louis Prima and Arthur Lyman. Given a slightly more sober listen I might have been able to name even more artists.
This place makes a great jumping off point if you want to bar hop WeHo. I prefer the late night drinkers. Str8 people hang here too!
Come on-a my house...my house-a come on!

Review from Joan S.
This is a sweet restaurant/lounge in an ideal corner location. The owners, Rob & wife Dena, are incredibly nice people. I haven't tried the food yet, but will soon. The music was great, especially "Hooray For Hollywood" as a cha cha. I almost was tempted to dance. Slap me if I ever do that.
Update: Sept. '06:
Finally I went for dinner! Could kick myself for waiting so long. JayChan has been telling me about the terrific food for months....and of course he was right on. We began with Mojitos (blackberry?), refreshing (I had never had one before). Then we ordered small plates, guided by Jay's recommendations from past visits, including beet salad - exceptionally good, don't miss it. The Chinese five-spice ribs were out of this world. The cilantro rice with yellow raisins......well, I could live on it, so good. We worked a second drink into the mix......wish I could remember the exact name....something like Voo Doo special. It had pineapple and rum and tasted quite harmless, but left me quite tipsy. I sobered up on curry fries.....wow! Delicious!
Warning: Beware of the bread that accompanies your dinner. It is the hottest thing I have had since that one guy on Venice Beach....WAIT, STRIKE THAT. I MEAN to say it will make your eyes water & clear out your sinuses. It is not your everyday bread, so treat it with due respect. I'm mostly kidding - it was tasty!
Overall, a five-star dinner. I cannot say enough good things about the food, the drinks, the friendly service, the decor, the views of people walking past the intersection of Santa Monica & Robertson.......
JayChan has found a winner.
Update: And now, sadly, it is gone......and I will miss this place big time.Listed in: Bars & Spirits
